[VFB] Re: Wading experience...

2009-06-29 Thread John C. Bennett
Sounds like you had quite the time. I have always had trouble with fast
currents. I only weight around 140 so even a light current will float me away
without a wading stick. (yes it has happened). Glad you made it out alive and
well.

Subject: [VFB] Wading experience...

I have just come home from a nice week of grayling fishing in the northern
Swedish river Hårkan... with a wading experience richer. The only "wader dip" I
had before this was in White River 2006. That one must have been in the
America's Funniest Home Videos league. Tony can testify on that. Water that's
hardly moving... barely one foot deep... with a gravel bottom flat as a
pancake... stumble on virtually nothing and landing on my chest.

This time the water was waist deep though and pushing quite hard. The bottom
was rocky and far from wading friendly (and I had been close to fall several
times during the week). It wasn't a "without wading stick" place (at least not
to me, who is a careful dude). I heard the sound of a fish rising to my left
and when I quickly turned my head to see where it was I felt a sligtht sign of
losing balance. So I took a little step backwards... maybe 5-6"... slipped and
fell backwards... and suddenly I was under the water. After fighting a couple
of seconds I managed to turn around so I had my toes facing the stones and when
I got a grip between the stones the stream towards my chest "helped" me to get
up again. I turned to get up from the water and in the very next step I slipped
again and fell face down. This time it didn't come as the same shock kind of
thing as the first fall and I was able to actually THINK about how to get up,
so I got back up standing without major problem.
I looked down and was going to reach for my wading stick and saw that the left
pocket in my chest pack was empty... just as empty as the left big vest pocket.
Downstream I saw three boxes getting smaller... a big compartment/slit foam box
with dry flies, a slit foam box (swing leaf) of the same size with nymphs and
another slit foam box with soft hackle flies. I had packed my boxes with flies
before this trip, so there were more than a couple of flies disappearing
there... and instincts took over.

I started to run downstream (as fast as you can, jumping on rocks with water up
to your waist). The water got deeper though and when it reached just below my
chest I stumbled and fell again. I had just reached the boxes, but at the same
time I also reached a hole where it suddenly got much deeper. Trying to stand
up again wasn't on the menu anymore and I started to swim. Swimming with the
rod in one hand and 'catching' all three boxes was impossible. I knew that
much. So I started to hit them one by one to get them upstream and closer to
land. Then I swam a bit towards land myself until they reached me and it was
time for the next "hit/swim" move again. After a couple of times repeating this
I was at a depth where I could stand up again and just collecting the boxes
coming towards me... and finally focus on leaving the water.

The night before this I had landed my (by far) largest grayling after a long
fight on a #3 rod and in fast moving water,,, but I still think this was the
took the prize as the "adventure of the trip". How I actually managed to
salvage all three boxes and the rod (and myself) is beyond me. I must have had
Him on my side. But you can't have anything. Back in the wind shelter we sat by
the fire and I had changed into some reserve clothing and my wading jacket that
I didn't wore when I fell. My soaking wet fleece sweater was hanging on a nail
on the wall... right above my opened backpack. The water was dripping RIGHT
down in the pocket where I kept the cellphone... and that was the end of his
adventure. :oP

So, what have I learned from this trip?

*Be careful where you put your feet in the water. (I already knew that, so it
was more of a reminder.) But keep your pockets closed. Careful or not...
eventually you will still fall. Having given the extra second to close the
pocket after putting the box back down can turn out to be worth both the time
and the effort.
*When you have fallen, gotten up and are sitting there happy over still being
alive and not having lost anything... it doesn't have to be over. Luck can turn
quicker than you can imagine. Just because you keep stuff on land to keep it
safe from the water doesn't have to mean that it's actually safe from the
water. ;o)

is a stonefly a winged wet fly ?

have a look at this site
these are traditional winged wet flys
dont matter if you make the pattern up
as long as it fits the style.

Traditional Winged Wet Flys BUT NOT STREAMERS !
The site below shows the type and style of fly.

I will tie these flies for the swaps:

Wet fly swap 1 = Stonefly

Wet fly swap 2 = Harley’s Revenge (Harley is an African Grey parrot that my
in-laws have. I use feathers and colors from him that he sheds. It is called
Harley’s revenge because his mate died when it had gotten hold of a fish from
my in-laws fish tank and chocked. So every time I catch a fish with this fly it
is a slight revenge for the bird.)

None taken, both of these (the way i tie them) are tied in the traditional wing
fashion.

Is that the purpose of this swap or is it to tie a classic old traditional

Letting you all know first. Looking for tyers for this one as it will be my
last for about six months as I start treatment in June.

Anyway we have until 15 Jun to sign up and 30 Aug to complete the flys.

Let's look at some more streamers (warmwater or coldwater)
(trout, gills, steelhead - your decision).

Self-addressed stamped envelops (MANDATORY), toe tags etc (all the normal rules
or guideline) Again for our friends not in the US, send 3-6 extra flys and I
will pay the postage back BUT you still need a self-addressed envelope.

Also will need your email address so I can make a group list of all the tyers.
This will make it easier to keep everyone up to date.

I am off in the AM for a week of trolling for some trophy trout with my Chili
Troll Fly. I will return next Thursday.

Some of the lurkers and newly signed up - get your vises dusted off and get to
tying.

Deserttrout is out.

May your GOD be your fishing partner.

Swappers of the soft-hackle swap- received the flies yesterday and I must say
that these are some of the best flies I've see in a swap so far (10+yrs). I'll
try to get a photo of them later to post here, as I feel these flies shouldn't
pass quietly into a drift without some publicity.

[VFB] Fly tying bench/station

2009-04-23 Thread John C. Bennett
Here are pictures of the converted vanity that i use for my fly tying. I am
currently remodeling our craft room so all my fly tying stuff is boxed up or in
a travel case, so it looks real clean. The best part that i like about the
tying station is the mirror. I can take unique pictures of tied flies. The
picture would capture both sides of the fly.

[VFB] Re: low cost tying station Under $25)

2009-04-23 Thread John C. Bennett
I guess my tying table/station cost more than $25 when it was first bought. I
have converted a vanity that belonged to my wife when she was a teenager. It
has multiple drawers and places to put stuff. The best part about using that is
the lid opens up to more storage, but the lid has a mirror mounted to its
underside. I can lift up the lid and see the backside of the fly that I am
tying without having to use the rotation of my vise. It also is great for
taking pictures of finished flies, with one picture you can capture both sides.

I recently made a "portable" tying desk out of my old cabinet fronts. I
replaced the kitchen cabinets & saved the oak fronts; doors & frames. I took
one of the smaller doors & frames apart, cut the frame so I had a 2" vertical
back & right side to attach to the door front & drilled holes in the side piece
for tools. I haven't decided whether I'm going to put dowels in the back for
spools or attach a rotating rack for spools & dubbing. I drilled two holes in
the front edge to attach my Nor vise. Now I can move my operations to the first
floor when Marcie has hens over for basket weaving. I'll have a picture of the
prototype later.

I've found that if I do the 'rich text' and 'insert picture' command, the photo

This may help one another with ideas on how to arrange materials and tools.
Don't clean up, as we need to know how it looks when flies are being tied.

For those interested in the rope-dub dvd...

I got the initial proof/draft DVD for the video tying sequences from the
video-man. I stuck it in the TV and Cheryl sat down to watch it with me. She
was amazed. She's seen me demo-ing the rope-dub for the last 8 years, but she

There's a lot for someone to work on, but the tying sequences coupled with
various photos should allow pausing and rewinding so that tough parts can be
reviewed. Only problem I could see was that my big 'ol ball-park frankfingers
were getting in the way all the time. We used 2 camera angles, so hopefully we

I cancelled my trip to Idaho this week-end because of the storm moving in-

I have been toying with braiding caddis flies the last couple weeks. I am
starting to like the look of it on some flies. Does anyone else braid and if so
what flies do you use it on. I am always looking for new patterns and this is
something new for me.

For all those who have not yet received their Old Fart Swap flies,
you're in for a really great treat.

But there are at least two in that mix that make me wonder if they
are really qualified to have been in the swap.

Tony Spezio's un-named L.B.F. and John Bennett's Royal Wulff are both
so tiny that no qualified Old Fart could see to tie the bloody things!

They both made my measly size 20 Griffiths Gnat look like a giant!

And the fly names are exceptional too. CRS Special was my favorite.

Can't Remember why, though;-)

Unlike Tony, I have no problems at all with a strike indicator,
especially when making long casts into deep holes that would be
impossible to fish with the high stick method. Heck, I don't even
care if you call it a bobber instead of a strike indicator. In fact my
favorite strike indicator LOOKS like a bobber, it is called the
"Thingamabobber" (here is a link if you want to see one:
http://www.cabelas.com/prod-1/0054523320531a.shtml
) It is lightweight, unsinkable, can be easily adjusted at
any point on the leader. I use the smallest one they make. But I
don't let the fact I have a strike indicator on stop me from high
sticking, I will do it anyway when the line gets into high sticking
territory. The strike indicator helps you see the slight "pause" in
drift of the line when a fish is taking your nymph.

OK - so it's been about 20 years since I've participated in a swap.
However, (now that I live someplace where I can fish more often AND since I

Is anyone interested in joining a Mayfly swap?
Dries, any style (parachute, Catskill, traditional, etc.)

Depending on interest it can be:
A) - 12 tiers, one bug each
or
B) - 6 tiers, two bugs each.

Subject: [VFB] Re: Active Nymphing was QUOTE FOR THE DAY

Mike,

Some species of nymphs are swimmers, some are clingers, some are burrowers.
If he is short-stripping a nymph (but not darting), he is probably
imitiating a swimmer variety. Dead-drifting works for imitating clingers,
and also burrowers that get washed up out of the dirt. All they can do is
drift downstream until they hit something they can cling on to, or end up in
an eddy (or a gut).

Depending on the fish and other circumstances, one way may work and the
others won't. One thing that does work for me is the lifting technique,
imitating a nymph that is rising to the surface. Whatever way I drift the
nymph, at the end of the cast I make a slow deliberate lift to the surface,
pausing before I pull the nymph from the water, especially if it ends up in
slack water.

Like you, my most productive nymphing is dead-drifting with a strike
indicator down the seams in the river, where the still or slow water meets
the fast water. Next I'll choose area in front of obstructions and then
directly behind. If that doesn't work, I'll look for deep pockets and
eddies. I have rig-ups and lines for all types of approaches and
nymph-sinking methods. In the N. Platte R., that puppy's got to be bouncing
along the bottom- seems to trigger the takes.

But all of this happens only if the dry-fly fishing is unproductive or if
it's just too windy for dries.

D

Very true, however I am often too eager to start fishing instead of waiting,
watching & trying to figure out the best holding lies for the fish and then the
best metod to approach them without scaring the fish.

I'm looking forward to examing your size 32 Royal Wulfs. Question: What
brand of size 32 hook did you use to tie your Wulfs? Tiemco? Mustad?
A 32 Mustad is much larger than a Tiemco 32. Also, does your 32's have
a hook eye or a spade? There is a big difference between sizes among
different manufacturers.

[VFB] Re: QUOTE FOR THE DAY

2009-01-14 Thread John C. Bennett

Reminds me of a story that happened last winter. We were stream fishing on the
Provo River and there was about a foot of snow of the ground. We had been there
most of the day and had walked back and forth on this one area that had a lot
of branches nearby. As we were leaving for the day, one of the people with us
fell into a hole that was waist deep. Nothing was broken but a bruise or two.
We were surprised that it hadn't given way on us before.

Now to get off of the subject of me and onto flyfishing. I was given a Fly
Fisherman Magazine and it talked about this new (to me anyway) catch and
release system. Essentially the fly or flies have no hook but are attached up
the leader. When a fish takes the fly the fisherman sets the hook, and is
snagged in the side of the mouth by small, barbless, specially designed catch
and release hook. According to the article the system was tested for years on
thousands of fish caught, and mortality rates were far greater since the fish
seldom is hooked in sensitive areas, and the release is very quick.

Have any of you seen or fished with this system? Or tied flies for it?

Condensed version. I had a little heaviness in my chest Sunday
morning. It got worse. Got hauled off to the heart hospital. I had
a clog. Heart Cath. got it repaired and I got back home yesterday.
No heart attack - caught it in time.

Moral to the story: If you feel ANYTHING a little squirrely going on
in your chest and think there MIGHT be something going on, get into
the E.R. immediately. Do NOT wait till you have a heart attack and
get heart damage.

Far better to find that it was a false alarm than to find that oops -
I shoulda come in earlier.

Merry Christmas, Happy Channukah, and wonderful holidays to all

T'was a Renegade, a bi-visible style fly popular in the High Desert waters of
the U.S. It was 1978, and I was a young pup hanging around Ruel Stayner's fly
shop, in Twin Falls, Idaho. Ruel suggested the fly as an ideal first fly for a
beginning flytyer.

The fly long since went to trout fly heaven, after rusting away in a tree
branch alongside an Idaho stream, or something like that. I don't fish them in
Oregon, but would definitely have some if I were back fishing in Idaho.

Here's a photo off the web of what a Renegade looks like:

Just thinking, have not hosted a swap in a while, was wondering if anyone
would be interested in a "First Fly" swap? Could make it a bit interesting
if each tier included a story of how they decided to tie the fly, how they
got started and the results.

I could put this into a word document so that each would not only have the
pattern, but the story with it about how you got started.

Anyone interested?

My first was the ugliest thing ever. I didn't have a pattern to follow, just
tied what I thought a fly should look like. I had not even started fly fishing,
so I was really just guessing. It turned out to be some sort of Wolly Worm
Mutant, and I keep it in a film canister and when I have a hard time tieing
flies, I take a look to see how far I have come. :)

Mine was a "Mudler Minnow", with a west Texas twist, from the pattern in
"McClain's Standard Fishing Encyclopedia". It caught my very first trout, a
Brown, on the north fork of the south Platt river in Colorado about 1968.

Have several of the decimated kin in my very first fly box, but the first
was lost to a rock fish along that same river a few days later.

Very fond memories. Thanks for helping me remember.

Here is an interesting question. What was your first fly that you tied? Do
you still have it? Do you still tie that same pattern and use it for
fishing.

My first fly (I'll have to post a picture of it) was a Mickey Finn Streamer
w/ Peacock tied over the top. I still have it displayed in a case in our
front room. People once and awhile will ask about it. It was the first fly

If I had a year to tie ONE of them, it'd be dicey on getting it done!

Because I am the "mascot" of the old fart fly swap and I am trying to tie a fly
smaller than I have ever done before (size 32 royal wulff), I thought I would
give an update to the status of my tying. Thanks to Tony, I was able to find
hackle small enough to fit a size 32 hook. (Tony, by the way, the hackle works
great. thanks) I sat down and tied 5 of the 25 needed. That was all my eyes
could handle in one sitting. I even had to pull out the magnifying lens on my
tying light to see what I was doing. I was even tempted to try the 2.5x power
reading glasses that I found on the river when I was on vacation. (Being 27,
I've never had to use them for anything yet). It is a good thing that we have
until February to finish the swap. I will need the whole time to get these done.

these Cameras that you have a little 5 or 7 inch "TV screen" and you

Well, the guy who worked there was talking to us and told us a guy

I would also be in. I always carry a flask with me on the river for those cold

I thought a little levity was in order for the day, since all we hear and see
is how bad things are. Yep, I wrote this, so if you take issue with any part
of it or don't get even a tiny laugh, just E-mail me. . . . . . . Oh never
mind. Me, I don't give a damn.

Have a Good Un!

JIMMY D

" In my younger days, some of my buds and I played in a Twi-Light golf
tournament each Wednesday evening during the summer. Entry fee was $10. Cheap
enough. At each Tee Box was a garbage can of iced down Lone Star Beer.
Seemed that the more we drank, the better we played and whether or not we won
the pot, we didn't care. Most of us got our $10 back in the beer we drank.
That was the most fun I ever had playing golf. I remember putting out on the
18th with onlooker's cars parked in the grass and their headlights shining on
the green so we could see how to putt, those of us who could still stand up. :-P

I'm sure we could work something similar with trout fishing and whiskey. ( I
chose whiskey instead of beer, since that's our stereotype image - pipe
smoking, fancy whiskey drinking, tweedy, hoite toite Abercrombie & Fitch
appearance.) 18 garbage cans of cold whiskey would be a little 'over the top',
so we could use small buckets filled with miniatures of our favorite whiskeys,
placing them in the cold water at the edge of selected pools, riffles and runs.
Total cost would be minimal as would the entry fee. It would be understood
that we'd each down a bottle of our preference at each placement of the
whiskey. It'd be great fun and we wouldn't give a damn who won or if we caught
any trout. This being a whiskey drinking contest, fish caught wouldn't count
anyway. ;-)

Those still standing at the end would be declared the winner(s) and would
receive a 'Texas Fifth' of McKendric Mesquite Mellowed whiskey - McKendric
Longhorn Creek or McKendric Western. Each of us would probably need a
'designated caster' after downing dozen or so bottles. His job would also
entail keeping us from drowning and seeing us home safely.

Why would Abercrombie & Fitch types stoop so low as to enter an event like
this? Why indeed? Most folk of this type boast of how much whiskey they can
drink and still be standing. I think it's called PRIDE. In this case, PRIDE
BEFORE THE FALL ! :-P My money would be on the bourbon drinkers, since we're
not quite as tweedy, and therefore tougher than the A&F bunch.

2008-11-18 Thread John C. Bennett

I just wanted to let everyone know how my trip to the Island Park Idaho
(Madison River) went. The weather was as expected, cold and snowy. That didn't
stop us from getting our feet wet. The river was the lowest that I had ever
seen it. That condensed the fish into the deeper channels changing the fishing
completely from the busy season. There was a nice midge hatch going on when we
arrived at Reynolds Pass pull off, just below earthquake lake. I ended up
catching my share of fish for the day (over 15 rainbows and one Brook trout).
They weren't the biggest fish in the river but they gave a pretty good fight. I
caught ¾ of the fish on a red WD-40, which was surprising due to the fact that
the midge hatch was a dark olive (I didn't understand it either). Overall it
was a good trip. My family enjoyed seeing Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons.

FYI, I will be without computer communication from today at 5pm mountain
standard time until the 17th of this month due to a family vacation/fishing
trip to Island park, Idaho. (Crossing my fingers that the weather will lighten
up so I will have a good time on the Madison and Henry's rivers.) So if you are
wanting a response from me concerning any of the fly swaps or anything else,
the only way to reach me is by phone. If needed call my work phone # below and
I will be checking my messages about once a day.

"The truth is that live-bait fishing has a long and noble history. Live bait
was totally unknown to the early caveman, who had to make do with a rather
limited assortment of dry flies, nymphs, and a few streamers. One day, whether
out of exasperation or simple impatience, a caveman made a backcast with a gray
hackle he had not bothered to remove from a sage hen. Instantly, it was taken
by a brontosaurus. The caveman was elated by his discovery, even though it was
several centuries before anyone learned how to take the brontosaurus off the
hook."

parts of white fur.
This was a road kill in perfect shape, not smashed so I thought I would skin it
out. It was a cold day and I was at a friends shop on the lake. I put the skin
in my new van with the windows closed. It did not smell in the cold air outside
where I skinned it. The sun warmed up the air in the van and no need to tell
you, it was cold driving the 40 miles home with all the windows open.I tried
washing the pelt and several other things to get the smell off the skin. I
finally tried Borax and Joy, that did it and left the skin part nice and white
and no smell.

Wash the skin in Borax and a bit of Joy dish soap. Rinse it well in fresh water

RULES for OLD FART SWAP

Be at least 50 years of age, or thereabout :-P , and a confirmed Old Fart. If
you won't admit to being an Old Fart, I'm sure your wife will vouch for you!
LOL I dropped the age limit when it seemed we didn't have enough over 65 Old
Farts to make a decent Swap. AARP starts their Senior program at age 50, so
there you go!

Tie a fly of your own design, or whatever, preferably one of your favorites.
Type of fly - trout, salmon, salt, panfish, etc., Size of fly is up to you.
Time frame for flies to me would be around the first of February, with the
usual toe tags, (little tags with name of fly and your name and email address),
return postage & packaging or pre-stamped return package. HOW MANY FLIES TO
TIE ?? At this point, you would tie 13 flies to send to me. It'll always be one
fly below the total number, cause you don't need to tie one for yourself.

FLY TYERS SIGNED UP AS OF 7:30 Tuesday morning, (today), are listed below.
We'll give it a day or so, and take a look at how many we have signed up. Don't
want to over work us Old Farts. New folks wanting to join, just hit reply and
type your name below the last one on the list.

Note: By your comments, I deduced that those of you listed below wanted to be
an Old Fart. But . . . . if you didn't and don't want to be in the swap, let
me know.

you won't admit to being an Old Fart, I'm sure your wife will vouch for you!

But . . . . if you didn't and don't want to be in the swap, let
me know.

Tight Lines and Smooth Whip Finishes to all.

[VFB] RE: OLD FART Update 10/28 # 1

2008-10-28 Thread John C. Bennett
I was thinking that I have an old grouse pelt that smells pretty rancid. I
could use that for the set of flies for this swap. It would go along with the
theme. Anyone have a gas mask I can use? j/k My dog runs out of the room when I
open the zip lock bag. I will save you all from passing out when you open your
box. I'll find something else to use.

Morning Gang!

Just thinking it's time for me to host another Swap. Those of you who have
participated in one of my 15 previous ones seem to have enjoyed the fun and
frivolity of my "Off the Wall" swaps.

I've meistered March Madness I & II, Colors I & II, Retiree, Ham Radio, Chili
Pepper, Eagle Scout, Blues I & II, Jody's Courage, Renegade, Steelhead,
Redneck, & Murf Memorial.

To make this one really different, I'm thinking of an OLD FART SWAP! You'll
need to be at least 65 years old before the end of this year, ore thereabout.
The fly you'd tie would be one of your own design, preferably one of your
favorites, fly size up to you. At this point, I'm just testing the water. As
those of you who have participated in my seaps before already know, there'll be
around 25 participants. Could be more. Could be less, depending on the number
of OLD FARTS who can still do a whip finish. :-) ;-) :-P :-D

Time frame for flies to me would be around the first of February, with the
usual toe tags, return postage & packaging or pre-stamped return package.

I look forward to hearing from you OF's who can still tie a fly.

JIMMY D

Hey guys,
Thinking of hosting a bug swap. to make it interesting I will come up with
a list of materials to be used. Your fly must use a certain percentage of
these materials. Anyone game?

[VFB] Re: [flyfishingandflytyingforpanfish] We're home from my wife's surgery

2008-10-20 Thread John C. Bennett
I know how it is to help with rehab. My wife used to be a CNA at a hospital.
She would help the people in and out of bed, etc. Just before we were married,
she had a rather large lady (300 lb) fall on her. My wife had a broken ankle
and a clicking in her knee. After the cast came off, it was a good 6 months
before she would go pain free the whole day. It still bothers her once and a
while if she is on it a lot, but she was in rehab for a long while. It really
slows them down.

Folks: I brought my wife home from the hospital late this afternoon. Surgery
went great. Imagine them being able to replace a knee in just 56 minutes.
Anyway, so far, so good. She is in a lot of pain, which is to be expected with
a 13 inch incision down the front of her left knee..But other than that, she is
walking with a walker, and is able to bear all the weight she can handle on
that leg already.. Thanks to all for the thoughts and prayers. Please keep them
coming because now begins the long and painful rehab she'll have to go
through.. Thanks again, Chuck

[VFB] Hook question

2008-10-15 Thread John C. Bennett

Has anyone tried to tie a size 32 fly? The smallest I have ever tied was a size
24. I was trying to find a place that sales them. I know that mustad makes them
but I can't find them anywhere.

[VFB] Re: School color swap, John B

2008-10-13 Thread John C. Bennett

Background on this fly. I tied the set at the hospital while my wife was in
labor with our new baby. She had to be started so she was in labor throughout
the night. With the drugs she was given for the pain, it gave me time to catch
up on my tying.

Chuck, take a travel kit to the hospital with you. It helped me pass the time
while my wife was sleeping.

[VFB] Re: QUOTE FOR THE DAY - MIDGES POEM

2008-10-10 Thread John C. Bennett
What a fitting poem for the time. I am preparing to head to island park Idaho
for a family vacation and I hope to use the midges that I am currently tying.
If anyone has a suggestion on what to take, it would be greatly appreciated. My
trip is the first week in November. You know, it is the time to bring out the
midge box. I prefer to fish the winters anyway.

MIDGES

I can't see'em, but I can hear'em
And I sure as hell can feel'em.
I feel'em when they get in my eyes.
I feel'em when they get in my ears.
I feel'em, the tiny fluttering flies,
Being washed away by my tears.
Yes, I feel'em, but these hands can't tie'em
Alas, my friends, I'll just have to buy'em.

[VFB] Re: QUOTE FOR THE DAY - MIDGES POEM

2008-10-10 Thread John C. Bennett
Even thou I am still a youngin (27), I have trouble tying midges at times. I
don't think it has to do with age. I have hyperglycemia, so that means that my
hands shake almost constantly. When it gets down to the size 22 and smaller I
have my troubles. When they say that you have to have a steady hand to do
certain things, I've learned to work around what I have. Needless to say, I
didn't become a doctor.

Loved the poem
