Such destruction is devastating for anyone, and as you said, things will not be
normal for a long time. It is a real concern for anyone who has family in the
hard hit storm areas. I believe that unless we take global warming as a very
real and imminent problem, storms like this will become more frequent. This
summer in British Columbia we experienced the worst ever year for forest fires
beating last year’s record and like California a lot of homes and properties
were burned to the foundations. with the tress gone, and extremely dry
conditions, the new danger is landslides due to local violent rainstorms. One
woman is still missing and presumed dead when a landslide took the car she was
driving and presumably buried it. The forest fires are usually caused by
lightning strikes.

Will keep your family in our thoughts and prayers.

You get a direct hit by a tornado or a hurricane, you need to get out if at all

around under that car on my back, with the car on ramps and/or jack stands was
a no no, as when I woke up Friday morning my right leg, from the knee to my
toes, and my right thumb and index finger were both sound asleep. Not pins and
nedles, but ASLEEP. But I thought I had just slept wrong, and wiggled my toes
and digits all day, but the feeling didn’t come back for 30 hours or so and
when it did, it went from numb, to pins and needles, then to pain, and even
now, my fingers are all good, but the back of my right calf feels like a mule
kicked it.

So, I had to see my doc about it today, and he thinks I might need back
surgery as he can actually feel a part of my spine that is swollen, and that,
combined with X-rays, he is referring me to an Ortho doc. He bypassed a
rheumatologist as he can see arthritis on my spine, but says it’s minor enough
that he don’t think it’s the problem causing the pain. So, he asked had I ever
been told I needed surgery and I told him that although I had seen a lot of
docs about it, I always told then that I did NOT want surgery as I knew a lot
of ppl who were worse off AFTER back surgery than before, and our pastor;s wife
in FL had fusion surgery and was bed ridden for six MONTHS. But, those were the
“bad old days”, and there are commercials on TV now that say they can
(depending on the problem etc of course) make a 1/2” to 1” incision, and have
you up and walking a little the next day, what with micro and/or laser surgery
etc.

Plus, I’m at the point now with the amt. of pain, that I’ll try anything, or
it won’t be long till my fishing days are over, as well as exercising not to
mention AND bending, stooping, lifting, twisting etc. It already hurts like
crazy to just drive or ride in a car more than about 20 miles. It got so bad
recently that the yr we were FINALLY planning to come to Sow Bug, we had to
cancel that plan as I knew my back would not allow a 1,000 round trip
drive/ride in just a few days. I wouldn’t be able to enjoy it if I did make it.
Anyway, please keep me in your thoughts and prayers that whatever it has to be,
whether surgery or whatever, that it will help the problem, and I’ll have a
speedy recovery as it’s getting old like I said. I just bought both my grand
daughters new fishing rods and reels, tackle box filled with tackle, and they
want “Paw Paw” to be able to take them fishing soon as the water warms up a
little and I surely want to take them too. Because of moving, and my stomach
problems last yr, it’s been going on four yrs since I was able to have a full
fishing season’s worth of fishing, and I’m having fishing “withdrawal” symptoms
here LOL... I can’t even sit in place long enough to tie over about 3 flies at
a time without having to get up and walk around a little. Thanks a lot, Chuck

and/or jack stands was a no no, as when I woke up Friday morning my right
leg, from the knee to my toes, and my right thumb and index finger were
both sound asleep. Not pins and nedles, but ASLEEP. But I thought I had
just slept wrong, and wiggled my toes and digits all day, but the feeling
didn’t come back for 30 hours or so and when it did, it went from numb, to
pins and needles, then to pain, and even now, my fingers are all good, but
the back of my right calf feels like a mule kicked it.

So, I had to see my doc about it today, and he thinks I might need back
surgery as he can actually feel a part of my spine that is swollen, and
that, combined with X-rays, he is referring me to an Ortho doc. He bypassed
a rheumatologist as he can see arthritis on my spine, but says it’s minor
enough that he don’t think it’s the problem causing the pain. So, he asked
had I ever been told I needed surgery and I told him that although I had
seen a lot of docs about it, I always told then that I did NOT want surgery
as I knew a lot of ppl who were worse off AFTER back surgery than before,
and our pastor;s wife in FL had fusion surgery and was bed ridden for six
MONTHS. But, those were the “bad old days”, and there are commercials on TV
now that say they can (depending on the problem etc of course) make a 1/2”
to 1” incision, and have you up and walking a little the next day, what
with micro and/or laser surgery etc.

Plus, I’m at the point now with the amt. of pain, that I’ll try anything,
or it won’t be long till my fishing days are over, as well as exercising
not to mention AND bending, stooping, lifting, twisting etc. It already
hurts like crazy to just drive or ride in a car more than about 20 miles.
It got so bad recently that the yr we were FINALLY planning to come to Sow
Bug, we had to cancel that plan as I knew my back would not allow a 1,000
round trip drive/ride in just a few days. I wouldn’t be able to enjoy it if
I did make it. Anyway, please keep me in your thoughts and prayers that
whatever it has to be, whether surgery or whatever, that it will help the
problem, and I’ll have a speedy recovery as it’s getting old like I said. I
just bought both my grand daughters new fishing rods and reels, tackle box
filled with tackle, and they want “Paw Paw” to be able to take them fishing
soon as the water warms up a little and I surely want to take them too.
Because of moving, and my stomach problems last yr, it’s been going on four
yrs since I was able to have a full fishing season’s worth of fishing, and
I’m having fishing “withdrawal” symptoms here LOL... I can’t even sit in
place long enough to tie over about 3 flies at a time without having to get
up and walk around a little. Thanks a lot, Chuck

2015-02-09 Thread Chuck Alexander
Joyce: Thanks for the info. You’re right about the cervical as well as the
lumbar. I should have clarified, but three of my bad discs are lumbar and three
are cervical. And I guess carpel tunnel symptoms could come back from scar
tissue etc, but I had double (both hands) carpel tunnel surgery in 1998. But I
WILL talk to the doc about the neurologist as well as the ortho doc. You can
see my BOOK about my experiences to Bob. That just scared me the other day as I
had had numbness and, burning, and pins and needles down my right side sciatic
nerve before, but not the “falling asleep” numbness to the point that I tried
to step out of bed and fell right back down in it. Thanks again, Chuck

It is amazing what our neurologists can do for backs with back surgery..suggest
that you see both a neurologist and an ortho surgeon and, as suggested already,
a pain management person. Often surgery is not required, but when it is, it is
usually quite successful. We had 2 back surgeries at our center today, and the
people both went home this evening already having good feeling in their legs,
something which was not the case before. Since your hand was numb, I am
wondering if you have a cervical as well as a lumbar injury, and it could be
plain old carpal tunnel disease in your hand. Please see a neurologist who
specializes in pain. Joyce

2015-02-09 Thread Bob
You have them. Have you looked into pain management? My back problems cannot be
repaired surgically. My spinal canal is shrinking due to arthritis. PM has been
a godsend. It took awhile but they got the pain under control. I can still
work. Fishing has been limited but I am hoping to be able to start again. I can
finally sit in a car for more than 20 min!

yrs, and all three were nothing more than “pill mills”. The last one, I saw for
12 yrs, and just stopped going there after October 2013 after he prescribed me
eight 10mg Methadone tablets per day. Then, I’d get epidurals (which helped
1000%) every other month, or every third month. But even though I never once
took over 4 Methadone tablets a day, I asked if I could just come off the meds,
and take the epidurals. He said “No, either you need them both or you don’t
need either”. That was code to me as saying “we know it’s the drugs that keep
most ppl coming back here”. Well, it made me mad as I wasn’t “most ppl”.

Anyway, it was such a turn around from 12 yrs earlier when he was fresh out of
his pain management specialty training and thought of you as a person, and not
“$$ signs”. First time I saw the guy, back in 2001, he drew pics for my wife
and I after getting my results of an MRI he ordered and explaining EVERYTHING
from Here’s how the spinal cord works and looks, or how it’s SUPPOSED to look
and work, and here is how yours looks and works, and here’s the “plan of
attack” to get you feeling better etc ect. And it worked. After the VA quacks
I’d seen he was a God send. But as he got more and more patients, and his love
for money grew and grew, it got sadder and sadder. Anyway, I know there are
great pain management docs out there and maybe I’ll find another one, but they,
like VA docs, have left a bad taste in my mouth for now. And it’s sad, because
I think that most ppl really are in pain, but as usually, the drug seekers are
the ones that make it to where the few hurt the many, and the ppl who really do
need pain relief cannot find it because the docs are afraid of the Govt. Chuck

You have them. Have you looked into pain management? My back problems cannot
be repaired surgically. My spinal canal is shrinking due to arthritis. PM has
been a godsend. It took awhile but they got the pain under control. I can
still work. Fishing has been limited but I am hoping to be able to start
again. I can finally sit in a car for more than 20 min!

Subject: [VFB] Thoughts and prayers needed

Folks: I had to see my doc today about a back condition (6 bulging discs all
total) I have had for yrs. Last Thursday I put a Reese type hitch on my new PT
Cruiser that We took off the old Cruiser one it got wrecked. Anyway, crawling
around under that car on my back, with the car on ramps and/or jack stands was
a no no, as when I woke up Friday morning my right leg, from the knee to my
toes, and my right thumb and index finger were both sound asleep. Not pins and
nedles, but ASLEEP. But I thought I had just slept wrong, and wiggled my toes
and digits all day, but the feeling didn’t come back for 30 hours or so and
when it did, it went from numb, to pins and needles, then to pain, and even
now, my fingers are all good, but the back of my right calf feels like a mule
kicked it.

So, I had to see my doc about it today, and he thinks I might need back surgery
as he can actually feel a part of my spine that is swollen, and that, combined
with X-rays, he is referring me to an Ortho doc. He bypassed a rheumatologist
as he can see arthritis on my spine, but says it’s minor enough that he don’t
think it’s the problem causing the pain. So, he asked had I ever been told I
needed surgery and I told him that although I had seen a lot of docs about it,
I always told then that I did NOT want surgery as I knew a lot of ppl who were
worse off AFTER back surgery than before, and our pastor;s wife in FL had
fusion surgery and was bed ridden for six MONTHS. But, those were the “bad old
days”, and there are commercials on TV now that say they can (depending on the
problem etc of course) make a 1/2” to 1” incision, and have you up and walking
a little the next day, what with micro and/or laser surgery etc.

Plus, I’m at the point now with the amt. of pain, that I’ll try anything, or it
won’t be long till my fishing days are over, as well as exercising not to
mention AND bending, stooping, lifting, twisting etc.
Anyway, please keep me in your thoughts

Folks: I got my appt. to get my skin cancer removed on Tuesday, Sept 16th at
2pm central time. I guess I’ll find out soon after that exactly what type/stage

cancer cell at that time) in your thoughts and prayers on that date. Thanks a

[VFB] Thoughts and prayers needed

2014-09-05 Thread Chuck Alexander
Folks: I need your thoughts and prayers please. I have had a “lesion” about
1/2” diameter on my shoulder for about four months now and went to the doc to
get it checked today. I hadn’t mentioned it to him before as I was having all
those IBS intestinal pains, and it would slip my mind as that pain was all I
was worried about.

Anyway, he took one look at it and said “that’s skin cancer and we need to take
it off asap” He says that he won’t know the type till he cuts it out and sends
a biopsy to the lab. He did say he didn’t think it has metastasized, but I
don’t know how he knows that unless it’s from the 6 tubes of blood they drew
today. I’ll probably get it taken off in about ten days or so as he has to be
out of town on continuing education next week. He’s says “don’t worry about it”
(easy for him to say, specially since I lost my favorite Uncle to skin cancer
about 15 yrs ago).

Nobody likes to hear the “C” word, but I’ll just cross whatever bridges I have
to cross when and/or as I get to then. That’s all I can do right now. But,
being a natural worrier and say I’m worried about it would be an
understatement right about now. I’m sure that living in FL and being a welder
in FL for 20+ yrs didn’t didn’t help, as well as going shirtless back when I
had the body for it. I have several more that he says was “pre cancerous”
(they are different looking from this one, but I’ll start with the “biggie” and
let him cut em all off asap) that he’d take off at a later date, but wants to
get the one off now. Thanks a lot. Chuck

Oh Chuck, exactly what you didn't need. But, the good thing about most
skin cancers are that they are all curable, though some take more trouble
to do so than do others. Im hoping that it is in a very early stage and
will be readily excised. Tell him to be sure he has a good wide, clear
margin around the lesion (I'm sure he will do that for sure anyway).
Thoughts and prayers for your quick diagnosis and recovery. Joyce

they kept me for three days running all sorts of tests, starting with tests
on the heart as a man (or woman) of 55 with any type chest or abdominal
pain, that’s the first thing they rule out. Thought it was my gall bladder
because the pain radiated in back from between my shoulder blades to down
and in front at my abdominal area. Ruled that out with CT scans, and
ultrasounds, and said though the gall bladder a little inflamed, there were
no stones, or blockages. Plus, they did a Mio View stress test for my heart
and said they saw little or no blockages, so I was glad to hear that. But
SOMETHING is making it hurt 24/7. My doc says it could even be scar
tissue/adhesions attaching themselves to my intestines as I had to have
FIVE Hiatal Hernia repair surgeries, and have three plastic meshes in there
now, along with 27 staples, and over 200 permanent type stitches. I hope
they find out what it is, but just hope it’s something that can be easilly
corrected as this pain is getting to be a major pain. And NONE of the meds
my new doc I found while in the hospital prescribed me. That’s was the good
part about that whole thing too. I went to a different hospital than the
one we normally use, as we moved two years ago, and the one I now use is
closer, and I love my new doc who is now our new Family Doc. Thanks a lot,

SOMETHING is making it hurt 24/7. My doc says it could even be scar
tissue/adhesions attaching themselves to my intestines as I had to have FIVE
Hiatal Hernia repair surgeries, and have three plastic meshes in there now,
along with 27 staples, and over 200 permanent type stitches. I hope they
find out what it is, but just hope it’s something that can be easilly
corrected as this pain is getting to be a major pain. And NONE of the meds
my new doc I found while in the hospital prescribed me. That’s was the good
part about that whole thing too. I went to a different hospital than the one
we normally use, as we moved two years ago, and the one I now use is closer,

That would be the best outcome I could hope for. When I was in the hospital

July or so. It got s bad, that in August I had to go to the ER and they
kept me for three days running all sorts of tests, starting with tests on the
heart as a man (or woman) of 55 with any type chest or abdominal pain, that’s
the first thing they rule out. Thought it was my gall bladder because the pain
radiated in back from between my shoulder blades to down and in front at my
abdominal area. Ruled that out with CT scans, and ultrasounds, and said though
the gall bladder a little inflamed, there were no stones, or blockages. Plus,
they did a Mio View stress test for my heart and said they saw little or no
blockages, so I was glad to hear that. But SOMETHING is making it hurt 24/7. My
doc says it could even be scar tissue/adhesions attaching themselves to my
intestines as I had to have FIVE Hiatal Hernia repair surgeries, and have three
plastic meshes in there now, along with 27 staples, and over 200 permanent type
stitches. I hope they find out what it is, but just hope it’s something that
can be easilly corrected as this pain is getting to be a major pain. And NONE
of the meds my new doc I found while in the hospital prescribed me. That’s was
the good part about that whole thing too. I went to a different hospital than
the one we normally use, as we moved two years ago, and the one I now use is
closer, and I love my new doc who is now our new Family Doc. Thanks a lot, Chuck

I hope this is just some testing, or maybe a little adjustment of a
previous repair.
