Hi all,I have a vloghere!! http://www.bobthevlog.com/vlogs/mayflower.It's very basic at the mo, just playing around with the software which so far has been great - you can capture, edit and publish all in one which makes it easy for me. I just finished doing a film degree so they are going to get alot more exciting I hope... Haven't really got the technical ability or money to set up my own site yet so it suits me well. This site is really new and hasn't really been populated yet which is actually quite nice in some ways, cos your video gets on the front page...plus its just refreshingly straight forward - no popups or adverts or hideous graphics or gimmicky stuff.I'm rather new to all this vlogging so it would be great to hear everyone's opinion on this site, though please be kind
about my videos... ;) he he.

I was one of those that had checked out your site once simply because
you had a link in one of your earlier post. I wont go back though. I
find your constant spamming on this list rather distateful so you wont
get a return visit from me. Which is too bad really because you may
have some content there.

Now, if you are the all great and knowing specialist that you say you
are, you would know that my one time visit meant nothing. It's the
ones that return are the ones that count.

I will second the comment to not use this group as a marketing test bed.

We're just finishing up now, running bandwidth tests to make sure

From there, we'll have to do a little configuration and should
hopefully have it

I was going to leave a related message in my drafts box, but I'm going
to post it now, because of what you've said here. Frankly, I think you
should be banned for spamming. It's unacceptable and you show no
remorse for annoying over 3000 people.

The truth is VERY simple. Groups are indexed immediatly on the servers
of yahoo and google. Google pirates yahoos groups. Go ahead... you
will see all your posts on Google Groups, and a bunch that are google
 specific. Strange really.

The Yahoo group is cross-posted to a google group-- someone set that
up about six months ago. Again, ignorance has made you look foolish.

My market test proves that people do not come here to find videos...
not the general public anyway, so there needs to be a group for
them... do you know of one?

*eyeroll* Of course they don't. This is the VIDEOBLOGGING DISCUSSION
GROUP. Not the FIND VIDEOS SEARCH ENGINE. For that, you go to a
search engine. Right tool for the job.

For you, the work will be simple...join the group, post a link to your
vlog evertime you have a new one. Thats all. No discussions. I will do
 the rest.

No. I have an RSS feed to promote my vlog. Feel free to subscribe to
it. There's even an email subscription option.

I will never abandon this group, and this is not an alternative to it,
it is the marketeing side of it for all vloggers...

I don't think you know anything about Internet marketing. If you did,
you would know the difference between a discussion group and an
audience for spam.

On SEO and optimization.. I do not need a website or books, please
humor me... I do work in this area, not just hokey doke stuff... I
have large clients... Campaigns I manage spend over $20,000 per month.
I need to know what I am doing. My own personal campaigns run into the
lower thousands... and I make money!

You do not know what you're doing. You may work in Internet marketing
and have a lot of rich clients, but that does not mean that you know
anything about marketing videoblogs or about talking to technical
people. Every person in this group is an early adopter for technology.
They are NOT the people you typically market to. Your ignorance of
that simple premise has resulted in you shooting yourself in the foot.

LASTLY...whew... I plan on building a website list of vlogs... TV with
channels. There are many lists on the web, but there are better ways
to do things... This site will cater to daily shows... and will be
marketed heavily in this new group. It will also be developed so
people can find what the're looking for... blog video is the hot
keyword today, maybe it will be vodcast tomorrow, either way thats
what people search to watch vlogs.

I look forward to seeing your website of vlogs enter an already
crowded market and do poorly because you lack subtlety.

 Peace OUT!

How about just OUT.

[videoblogging] Week of Vlogging Dangerously

2006-03-31 Thread Stephanie Bryant
[I like the idea of vlog week, so here's me taking some initiative]

The Week of Vlogging Dangerously:

Who: YOU!
What: 1 week (7 days) of posting a videoblog post every day.
When: April 3-9 (to get a full weekend in at the end)
Why: because it's fun!
How: Post to the videoblogging group under this subject line that
you're going to participate, with a link to your vlog. I'll try to set
up an RSS webpage with all the week of vlogs.

Anything else?
Since it's the week of vlogging dangerously, try to do something risky
or different from your routine and vlog it. Maybe it's talking to a
stranger, or sneaking a camcorder into a store with NO VIDEO OF THIS
PREMISES ALLOWED. Maybe it's subverting the dominant paradigm, or
perhaps it's risking your very soul by buying into the paradigm for a
day.

You decide the file format, server, etc. This is just a challenge to
get your out there and videoblogging!

What if I fall behind?
Post twice the next day.

Will you help me?
I'll post a Vlogging Dangerously suggestion each day, in case you need
inspiration. I hope you don't, though! We're all creative people! Go
out and have fun!

[videoblogging] Tribute to view mp4 video online

Hello,

Under my pseudo i am the curator and publishing manager of:

http://criticalsecret.com

Don't know if what I say will still a new issue yet now ( as I have
forgotten to post on it at the moment we did the change two months ago ):
but at last Loz, creator of the blog named LoGz ( http://logz.org ) we use
to our podcast ( tittle podcast toi-même/ Podcast yourself ‹ issue #15 of
our digit review online ) was successful to solve the question of the mp4
view in the browser his LoGz ) thanks to XHTML code. Personal adaptation
from an application by other good guy to another application ( the name is
quoted in LoGz source ). By this way we do not more require pop ups to read
the mp4 videos in the catalogue online.

See the result of our  radio in technicolour  rss2 catalogue online ( the
broadcasting calendar of the total issue is still returning by weeks ):

Yea, I just downloaded IE 7 Beta 2 and saw the problem on a sample

Like videoblogging week 2004 and videoblogging week 2005 you just post
video on your own blog. Through the wonder of the web people will be able
to follow all the videos through tagging services. Just tag your video
videobloggingweek2006 at technorati and everyone will be able to follow
along.

To tag a post for videoblogging week at technorati paste the below into
your blog post:

a href=http://technorati.com/tag/videobloggingweek2006;
rel=tagvideobloggingweek2006/a

Pure magic!

I guess that means I'm in (only problem is that I'm really busy! I
wish this wasn't so last minute!!!),

Last minute? Pfft. :o)

[videoblogging] Re: VLOGGERS UNITE

2006-03-31 Thread Steve Watkins
--- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, Stephanie Bryant
[EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

I don't think you know anything about Internet marketing. If you did,
you would know the difference between a discussion group and an
 audience for spam.

I think thats a very important point that helps explain this groups
stance on what are not acceptable ways to do business here. Of course
there is no single groupview on this or any other issue, but certaint
kinds of marketing are definately one of the things that gets some
vocal peoples backs up here.

I personally dislike marketing in general, but I have a passionate
hate for really vulgar marketing sales techniques, adverts etc. Now
it seems to be that these days there are a lot of companies that are
doing the modern style of sleek seductive advertising, and internet
savvy/more ethical/less vulgar type stuff. And this stuff is bound to
be a bit more palatable to a wider range of people and the blogosphere
than the other sort of marketing, the sort that gives marketing a bad
name, and that I have ranted about in the past.

If Im not mistaken this latest vulgar marketeer has tried an ebay
auction of pixels on his site, and the marketing used on the ebay
auction page for that item is just a classic example of the kind of
marketing that will get you a lot of heat from people. It makes some
people hopping mad, I will speculate as to some of the reasons why:

1) A relentless hard sell. If the product is worth it, why the need
for hard sell?

2) The hideously outdated and tacky use of a few specific font
attributes. Clearly there must be a long tradition of dodgy marketeers
selling other would-be marketeers stupid guides that say that using
red sentences and ALL CAPITALS at specific moments, then throw in some
blue sentences, along with a relentless style of bullshit, will just
melt those potential customers minds and the dollars will come a
flowing. NO! It looks bad enough on backpage classified adverts, on
the internet it just looks like laughable parpings of the truly desperate.

3) The term 'viral marketing' is used. It wouldnt be called viral if
it was a nice thing. Does that make the person behind viral marketing
campaign a virus? If so then is an angry response a yahoo groups best
innoculation against such a virus?

Oh well I dont know why Im bothering with this rant, experience so far
is that the people who indulge in such stuff never seem to understand
why some people get so upset with it and them. They dont see anything
wrong with it, which is understandable as humans need to
self-rationalise their own behaviour. So its percieved that we who
moan are the problem, that we must be a minority, so its worth setting
up another group where the majority will live happily with the viral
marketing slugs and be happy to be crudely manipulated by them using
the power of red fonts and half-understood pseudo-marketing techniques.

Nah, anyway I think the biggest brainwrong is the assumption that its
only a minority who hate this sort of marketing. I happen to think
that most people are against hard selling because if something is
worth buying, why the need to push it so. And its totally natural that
humans hate the idea of being manipulated by anybody else. So whilst
they may still sometimes fall for sophisticated advertising or subtle
uses of emotions in adverts (or even not so subtle uses of eg sex to
sell), they will not have pleasant thoughts about stuff that is not
subtle, is pushy or invasive etc.

A bizarre test of this opinion of mine that the majority hate such
things, would be wrestling. A wrestler with the gimic of doing that
sort of marketing/selling, would be an instant heel, plenty of cheap
heat from the crowd, and some people would pay good money to see
another person pretend to beat him up. And it wasnt loud-mouthed
opinionated gits like me who decided the masses should think that way.

If anybody has any ideas about how video could be used to fight viral
marketing and other such stains on human civilisation, I would be
ready to reactivate unquack.com for just such a purpose.

[videoblogging] Re: What's Going on With Blip.tv? Nothing is loading!

2006-03-31 Thread mikehudack
Hey guys,

I figured I should reply in more detail than simply everything is up.

We are indeed bringing new servers and bandwidth online today, and with this
new
installation we will have triple redundancy (three different sites and sets of
servers serving
blip video at any given time).

We had a small and relatively short hiccup today during which some videos
didn't load at
all, and others loaded slowly. The hiccup was caused by our upgrades to our
distribution
systems to better serve videos. We didn't anticipate any service interruption
but got one
anyway... it was caused by system maintenance and we were right there to fix it.

A thousand apologies from the blip team, and our assurances that these issues
should be
a thing of the past by this evening.

Yours,

Mike

Re: [videoblogging] Fwd: Announcing RSS feeds on Google Video (alpha)

2006-03-31 Thread Michael Meiser
Thanks for posting this Joly.

I see from looking at your feed that feedburner is not turning any of
the media RSS elements into a standard RSS 2.0 enclosure, so I'm
guessing your feed won't work in iTune, Fireant or any other video
aggregator that doesn't support Media RSS.

Just for the heck of it I decided to try to put it through Mefeedia.
I would appear mefeedia does recognize the first media RSS specified
item which is Flash, but due to google's extremely long urls mefeedia
truncates teh url causeing it to be useless.

I'm recommending to Peter and devlon that we add support for google's
longer urls and in the future we will hopefully at some point in the
future mefeedia will have full support for alternative media RSS
specified formats like MP4 and WMV so that a user can choose their
preferred format.

Google is pleased to announce an alpha release of RSS feeds on Google
 Video.

This is our first release of RSS feeds on Google Video and we're
contacting this group because we'd like to receive feedback on our
implementation. Specifically, we've implemented portions of the
MediaRSS extension and would like to make sure that what we've
 done is
standards-compliant and works well in a variety of RSS readers.
We also are interested in feedback regarding additional information
that would be useful to include in the feeds.

The RSS feature is not yet linked on our site, so to access it you'll
need to use the links below.

To access a feed of popular videos, go to
 http://video.google.com/videofeed?type=popularnum=20output=rss

To access a feed of any search results page, go to
 http://video.google.com/videofeed?type=searchq=type%
 3Agpicknum=20output=rss

In both cases, the num parameter can take any value from 1 to 100.

In the case of search, the q parameter is the search query, and so
can be anything you might see in a Google Video search URL.
Furthermore, any other parameters that are accepted by Google Video
search (e.g. for sort order) can be used here.

Please respond to this post with any feedback you may have.

Thanks for your help and for your interest in Google Video!

thus punkcast vids on google are at
 http://video.google.com/videofeed?
 type=searchq=punkcastnum=20output=rss
which, in feedburner, looks like this:
 http://feeds.feedburner.com/GoogleVideo-Punkcast

I have, incidentally, been experiencing difficulty uploading to
 google video -
much of the time, seemingly capriciously, I just can't login with
 their uploader program.
Apart from that, and waiting a day for validation, it's an
 excellent service.

Re: [videoblogging] Re: VLOGGERS UNITE

2006-03-31 Thread Michael Meiser
I just find one thing funny. That posting your posts to a yahoo group
is the fastest way to get your pages listed.

Quite frankly the fastest way to get your pages listed is through
your RSS feed. Specifically if you use feedburner as that no only
indexes your feed and pings all the relevant websites, but also
includes mediaRSS info which is sent straight to yahoo.

Furthermore building an audience of subscribers through actually
offering value not spam is the best possible way to build a long term
repeat audience... focus on promoting subscriptions not just
individual posts. Visitors to your site come and go, subscribers
stick around.

When I heard about this proposed yahoo group I simply heard the term
spam group. By all means though if you want to spam yourself and
others who would spam you go right a head. A giant echo chamber...
people yelling at each other... check out my feed, no check out my
feed. Everyone shouting noone listening. I think it'd be funny. Just
don't do it here.

And btw, for future reference, people don't like being experimented
with that definitely does not make it OK. In fact it may offend
people worse than just being clueless, because it's condescending too.

I don't think you know anything about Internet marketing. If you did,

 2) The hideously outdated and tacky use of a few specific font
attributes. Clearly there must be a long tradition of dodgy marketeers
selling other would-be marketeers stupid guides that say that using
red sentences and ALL CAPITALS at specific moments, then throw in some
blue sentences, along with a relentless style of bullshit, will just
melt those potential customers minds and the dollars will come a
flowing. NO! It looks bad enough on backpage classified adverts, on
the internet it just looks like laughable parpings of the truly
 desperate.

So its percieved that we who
moan are the problem, that we must be a minority, so its worth setting
up another group where the majority will live happily with the viral
marketing slugs and be happy to be crudely manipulated by them using
the power of red fonts and half-understood pseudo-marketing
 techniques.

A wrestler with the gimic of doing

When: April 3-9 (to get a full weekend in at the end)
 Why: because it's fun!
How: Post to the videoblogging group under this subject line that
you're going to participate, with a link to your vlog. I'll try to
set

up an RSS webpage with all the "week of" vlogs.

 Anything else?
Since it's the week of vlogging dangerously, try to do something

You decide the file format, server, etc. This is just a challenge

yes, but his gallery looks a hell of a lot nicer than anything from
flickr

i guess you're a function over form guy Mike ;)

in case you prefer other formats, here's some video:
http://apperceive.blogs.com/apperceive/2006/03/echo_park_film_.html

or some audio:
http://apperceive.blogs.com/apperceive/2006/03/echo_park_film__1.html

I'm biased of course, but i think LAN took some great photos and that's
more important than the choice of player

i guess the best answer is "photocast" and then you can pick your
viewer of choice

then you can watch them in fireant or something

but then flickr would have to get it's RSS feeds together (they suck -
they ignore creative commons based searches)

Michael Meiser wrote:

Careful there Richard,

the federal government has recently established "safe schlomo dosages"
and two hours of schlomo and his mom are considered "potential harmful"
(that's yellow on the new fed chart) unless you smoke a lot of
something during the experience

please use with caution ;)

Re: [videoblogging] Re: Vlog Week 2006!! April 3-9!!!

2006-03-31 Thread Andreas Haugstrup
Don't add bureaucracy (bureaucrazy) and don't worry. Everyone will be able
to see videos immediately by going to technorati and mefeedia tag pages
(because waiting for a human curate the videos sucks). During the week
these two places are the best place to go. *After* the week a place with
all the videos might make sense, but it's still gravy (the tag pages at
technorati/mefeedia still work).

Just shoot videos and forget about everything else until the 10th. :o)

Re: [videoblogging] Microsoft orders you to change your web-pages

2006-03-31 Thread Michael Sullivan

Actually, what we really need is SMIL support.
i work with SMIL.if interested you can see SMIL being used to render 'vodcast playlists' on vlogdir.com.it converts RSS to SMIL, taking only the Quicktime compatible media enclosures (dependent on mime type specified in RSS at the moment) and inserting embedded hyperlinks to the permalinks (click the video).
most vodcasts use quicktime compatible media (especially since the viPod came out) so this helps. As more people have better compressed mp4 video, i've even noticed buffer issues become less common.
as much as i think smil is cool i'm also preparing an flv vodcast playlist generator, since this is a web based experience. sullOn 3/30/06, Charles Iliya Krempeaux

[videoblogging] Productive Member of the Group

2006-03-31 Thread lishisman
Starting over...

Those who responded to my post VLOGGERS UNITE have me pegged wrong,
period.

Stephanie, you are wrong about 95% of what you said about me, things
you said were out of context, unfounded, and completely
inappropriate.

I sarcastically said I spammed this group. My posts were done partly
to promote my site, get feedback from experienced people, and to see
the type of people viewed this forum, precisely because I did not
know. In retrospect, my initial posts werent any more distasteful as
any of the posts which link people to view their vlogs. I didnt get
any feedback here until I started getting more intusive with my
posts.

Experiment was probably to sharp a word to have used to describe why
I posted.

I am not some freak marketer going crazy and spamming everywhere, I
tried an ebay auction, and the pixel page on my site. The intention
was to do nothing more than explore ways to make money with my show
(it didn't work). I have invested including today over 75 hours of
time into my vlog... I started Feb 28th.

My search engine techniques are good optimization, nothing more,
nothing shady, the terms for which I come up are completely
relevant... daily vlog video blog, etc. I do not employ any
tactics that are even remotely questionable.

My vlog isn't just some rant about my life (it's not that
interesting), it is a 10-minute entertainment show(not that
interesting), designed to be commercial free, watch it if you want
to, Internet TV. The loose model for it is rocketboom, or mobuzztv.

In order for it to be successful it needs promotion, polishing, and
constructive criticism.

More promotion than what can be obtained by adding an RSS feed and
feedburner and calling it promoted.

I anticipate many more vlogs coming that will be done daily for the
purpose of entertainment, currently there is no forum, group, where
these vlogs can be found. That is where the group idea came from, it
was not meant to be some free for all spam group, but a closely
moderated group of links.

Whatever the case may be, I want to be a productive member of this
group and contribute what I can to these technologies... please
accept my deepest apologies for any negative feelings I caused or
brought into your lives.

I hope you can give me a chance to start over

Jason

Re: [videoblogging] Productive Member of the Group

2006-03-31 Thread David Meade

ok starting over ...I dont think I 'get it'. This is a group where we would announce updates? I really would hate having to do that ... my feed does that for me ... epecially if its geared toward daily producers - can't we just assume then that theres an update, or even better ... subscribe to members feeds in order to be updated ... thats why they're there.
So anyhow once we're in the group and its beeing updated all the time with announcements of our new posts ... then what? Is it meant as a way to get feedback from the group? I'd rather have that in my comments.
Is ithis group meant as a place where other people can go and see whats new in the vlogsphere? And if so, why wouldnt we just watch/subscribe to the recently added section of any of the directories that are out there.
I'm just not sure what you're telling me this group is meant to do. (Not saying its not a great idea...I'm saying I'm not clear on what the idea is).- Davehttp://www.davidmeade.com

Ditto for me. All my editing will be done while the camera is filming.
Should be fun :)

 That's the approach we're taking.

I've always fussed with editing (not that you would be able to tell),
time to break out of that for a bit.

'rough and ready' will be the tone for the week.

There is truth to the whole seed, tree thing.

Casey,
Nice idea... but they dont make those threads in my size...

Dave,
I do appreciate your reply, at this point I would rather drop the
whole idea, I am thinking of a better way to explain the concept,
maybe it just sucks, I have had a ton of those ideas too.

[videoblogging] Re: Vlog Week 2006!! April 3-9!!!

2006-03-31 Thread david_dudas
the main reason that eyespot exists is because video editing is too
time consuming and difficult

eyespot has a super easy to use video editor

it took me about 30 seconds to carve up the clips i posted in the group

of course if you need to make production-quality mixes you still need
to use iMovie or similar...but for quick production you should try it out
