hey .. this reminds me... i wanted to ask if it's possible to subscribe to multiple tags this way? e.g. if i wanted to subscribe to the tags 'duncan' and 'video' on one feed? i tried it with delicious and fireant before but couldn't get it to work? i want to try it with my current project.

Another way is using a plugin, look here;

http://dev.wp-plugins.org/wiki/BunnysTechnoratiTags

If you write a post you can use a field to put your tags in.
Additional if you want your tags vissible there is a line of code to
add to your wordpress files.

[videoblogging] RSS feeds for videobloggingweek2006

2006-04-02 Thread Anne Walk

Hi all!Since there seems to be some trouble with folks knowing where to tag in order to get a list of all participants, I made up a feed using FeedBlendr of everything tagged for the week's festivities in ourmedia, delicious, technorati, and blip. I can't seem to add mefeedia as there is nothing there currently with that tag and I can't generate a feed for it yet. Bummer.

they take down some of the more, ehem, interesting entries, you might
want to see an example:

[videoblogging] TechCrunch: "Motionbox best online video sharing so far"

2006-04-02 Thread Lisa Harper
This is moving us toward the idea of high granularity of
videoblogging that Adrian Miles talks about.

http://www.techcrunch.com/2006/04/02/motionbox-best-online-video-sharing-so-far/

"To get what Motionbox is doing, take a YouTube and add a ton of
really great editing, mashup and deep tagging features. Like YouTube,
Motionbox transcodes files to flash to reduce file size and
standardize viewing. But they also store the original files and allow
you or those you authorize to download those files and/or purchase
DVDs with the files."

[videoblogging] RFC: RSS and Atom Feed Auto-Discovery for Internet TV

2006-04-02 Thread Charles Iliya Krempeaux

Hello,(I'm requesting comments on this proposal.)A while ago I was thinking about the problem of... how do you tell the difference between a (text-based) blog's RSS feed, from and (audio filled) podcast RSS feed, from (video filled) vidcast RSS feed?!  And more importantly, how do browsers, search engines, web crawlers, and other machines tell the difference?!
After all, most people use different program for each.  (Typically, people use one program to read their blog and news feeds. Another program to listen to their Internet radio feeds. And yet another program to watch their Internet TV feeds.)  So you need to know which is which so you can handle them differently.
After doing a bit of research, I found that what we (Internet TV, vlog, vidcast, vodcast, etc makers) need to is add...media="tv"
...to our "link" elements that we use to link to our RSS or Atom feed for our vidcasts.  As in:
  rel="banana"  type="application/rss+xml"  href=""
http://example.com/feed"  title="Example"/>I wrote a more complete explaination here:

[videoblogging] New York Footage

2006-04-02 Thread Matthew Clayfield
New Yorkers, New Yorkers, New Yorkers:

I have a friend who needs some high-ish quality footage of your
wonderful city for a production she's putting on, but doesn't want to
have to, you know, pay for it. I told her that I'd go straight the the
cheapest (and most innovative) source, i.e. New Yorkers with video
cameras, i.e. you guys.

If you'd be willing to run around and shoot some stock footage-y type
stuff for me it'd be much appreciated. Just send me an e-mail and let
me know and we'll work out details (format, size, etc) from there.

[videoblogging] Videoblogging Week 2006

2006-04-02 Thread Richard BF
I'd just like to chime in here amongst all the instructions on how to
participate in Videoblogging Week 2006. I appreciate people gtting
excited and starting web sites, blogs, instructing people on various
ways to tag, making unofficial lists of participants, and even giving
out mandates like "vidoeblogging dangerously".

But it all comes down to just shooting a video each day.

If you want to get involved in all that other stuff then fine, but
all you really need to do is a video a day. That's all, just a video
per day. There's no reason or pressure to do any of the other
activities.

Last year was a lot of fun, and so will this.

Just shoot a video per day and put it on your site, that's all you need to do!

  Richard

[videoblogging] Week of Vlogging Dangerously/VlogWeek2006

2006-04-02 Thread Stephanie Bryant
The Week of Vlogging Dangerously/Vlog Week 2006

OK, I realize it's already "tomorrow" in some parts of the world, so
let's get started!

A lot of folks contributed time, space, announcements... it's turning
into a bit of a hodge-podge of leadership. Nonetheless, I said I'd
compile stuff, and I am doing so.

DATES:
April 3-9 Monday through Sunday. Post a vlog each day for all 7 days.
If you come in late, post a vlog each day and maybe catch up on the
weekend. If you stop vlogging halfway through the week, catch up on
the weekend. No excuses!

BLOG:
http://videobloggingweek2006.blogspot.com
Not sure if this is just announcements or videos. Steve?

BANNERS:
http://michaelverdi.com/vbw06
http://vlogmatic.com/vbweek2006.htm

TAGGING:
It will make the project much easier if you tag your videos, at
*least* with a Technorati tag.

Peter and Devlon: can we set up a (public?) Mefeedia feed with the
listed participants as the "to be watched" list? Is that possible? If
so, then folks could tag them themselves while watching in Mefeedia,
and it would set up the RSS feed quickly for me (another vlogger's
helpfully given a possible space for the public feed as well).

On Technorati:
http://technorati.com/tag/videobloggingweek2006

To tag your video, add this to your post:
http://technorati.com/tag/videobloggingweek2006"; rel="tag">
videobloggingweek2006

[Yes, there are a gazillion ways to do this. This is one of them.]

If you like, you could also add a "vloggingdangerously" tag, if you're
specifically taking risks this week for your vlog.

On MeFeedia;
http://mefeedia.com/tags/videobloggingweek2006/

To tag your video:
Sign in to Mefeedia.com
Subscribe to your own feed.
Go to Watch to view your video queue.
Click a video in your queue.
Click "Tag this" to tag the video.
Type "videobloggingweek2006" in the field and click the TAG! button.

Add yourself to Eyespot:
http://eyespot.com/groups/videobloggingweek2006
[I'm not sure what the value is to this; if you don't add yourself
this week, is it OK to do so next week?]

DANGEROUS!

During the week, I'll email the "dangerous" ideas to the list.
Everyone is welcome to contribute suggestions. No one is required to
follow any of the dangerous suggestions, or even to vlog dangerously.
You determine for yourself what is "danger." The idea is to take a
risk of some kind with your vlog. Perhaps that's a risk that you take
personally and then videoblog, or perhaps it's a risk that you take
involving your vlog.

First dangerous idea, inspired by Naked Verdi and others: Vlog your
daily shower or bath. How much you show or don't is up to you. If you
vlog yourself x-rated, PLEASE provide some kind of disclaimer. Cause,
you know, some people have small children or weak stomaches. ;)

CURRENT PARTICIPANTS:
We'll have a single page feed for all of these, as soon as it's set up
(working on it). If you're participating but absolutely don't want to
be in a web-based feed, let me know.

Also, please check to make sure you are listed and I have your
videoblog's URL and your name spelled correctly. If I missed you, it
was not a deliberate slight, so speak up, please.

[videoblogging] Re: VLOGGERS UNITE

2006-04-02 Thread hpbatman7
I found nothing seriously distatasteful about the VLOGGERS UNITE
> thread from Jason, the original poster, and in his mea culpa, he

Interesting commentI struggle myself when posting comments to
the group. That is the maddening thing about "email" you
never "hear" the intent behing the question or the comment.
Something that sounds perfectly fine in your head sometime comes
across as mean or just plain studid..

Now I will say I don't like it myself when someone posts a bunch of
messages saying look at meI ignore those completly. And trust me
I want as many people to come to my vlog as possible but I don't
think you will get many "visitors" by being annoying. (or at least
the being pecieved as annoying)

I do agree with Stepanine in that I feel that this group is very open
and receptive but it is hard for a "new" vlog to find it's place.
But I have to remind myself, I have only been doing this since
December of 2005, I am not even 6 months into this process. And
there are a bunch of "vlogs" coming out everyday. I think in some
ways people see this as "the next big thing" and if that is "why" you
are doing thisyou may suceed but you may not.Me this is
something I have always wanted to do..I'm an extrovert (I think
that is how you spell it) so putting myself "out there" is nothing
new. I have been doing that all my life, now I just let everyone
else see how goofy I am...

I vlog because it is fun..I do want people to watch,... I am not
going to lie and I want to do other things as well. But for me this
is a learning experience, this medium can be so powerful not because
it can topple goverments or bring out the "truth" but by showing
each other how much we have in common, that is what will break down
barriers.IMHO... GeezI sound like a liberal ;)

Re: [videoblogging] tags and wordpress

2006-04-02 Thread Andreas Haugstrup
The whole point of this excercise is to be able to see the videos others
have posted. Ie. we must agree on a specific tag to use. Since last year's
tag was "videobloggingweek2005" this year's tag is
"videobloggingweek2006". Mashed together or not, it works. No spaces is
easier to remember than "was there a space between video and blogging
too?".

You have misunderstood. Richard is using the tag in his *feed*
to specify the tag for the blog post. He is not using a link in the blog
post.

Hello,OK, I looked at Richard's source code (which I probably should have done right away) and I see the problem. Now this is something I've argued against over at Microformats.org
, but Technorati gets the category name from the URL you link to.Normally, if you had a rel="tag" link URL like:
http://example.com/this/is/it/NewTubeThen your category would be "NewTube".  I.e., Technorate looks at the last "word" (if you want to call it that) in URL.Richard's link URL (for videobloggingweek2006) is:
http://www.richardshow.com/?cat=7Which does NOT have videobloggingweek2006 as the last "word".  Which is the problem Technorati is having.
Note, Technorati does this.  But I (and others) don't like this and think that the word that you are using to make the rel="tag" link should matter.  However (last we discussed this), Technorati doesn't care about that.  (And they don't care about the title attribute either.)

There's another important point when doing this tagging. In the HTML code that is generated, you need to have rel="tag" in hyperlink for your tag.So, for example, you'd need something like this:
rel="tag" href=""

[videoblogging] Vlogging dangerously...brainstorming session

2006-04-02 Thread J. Rhett Aultman
So, Amy and I are having a hard time coming up with "dangerous vlogging"
ideas that we can fairly easily do. We also don't want to do something
too asinine or juvenile (ala Jackass or Trigger Happy TV stuff) because
that's so farr of the usual vision of our vlog.

I'm sure there are others with a little creative block, too, so how
about a little brainstorming? What, to you, embodies "vlogging
dangerously"?

We're already doing a piece on a gay rodeo going on down here. That's
pretty inherrently dangerous. Other things we were thinking about...

...trying to evangelize the great Flying Spaghetti Monster.
...doing a glamorbomb and vlogging the results.

Honestly, though, finding "dangerous" material that can be done around
the constraints of a dayjob is pretty tricky. What other ideas have
people had?

It's quite simple:
Sending a message with a link to your new vlog: Not spam, encouraged.
Sending *10* messages in four days with a link to your new vlog: Spam,
discouraged.

Give the people on the list some credit. We're not morons, repeating the
same message over and over does not convince anyone (optionally: insert
joke about the current president of the USA here).

VLOGGERS UNITE was message #12 - it was preceded by 10 messages containing
one line and then a link to the blog. That's the big problem. The small
problem is that the 10 messages apparently was a "market research
experiment" making the whole thing slightly unethical and very annoying.

mefeedia didn't exist back then, but I'm no way near a top listing in
mefeedia. :o)

Why is exposure a problem? Is vlogging only fun for you if you have
130,000 views a day? As it's been repeated many times on this list:
Sending a message with a link to your new vlog *is* encouraged. Sending 10
messages is discouraged.

Are you guys using ping-o-matic (default in Wordpress)? I am and I thought
that might be it. I've tried pinging from technorati's website directly
and will see if it'll update now.

I'm a lazy guy, and I don't want to tag my posts at fifteen different
places. I'll tag it once - in my blog post - and they are welcome to come
and read it. I agree with Verdi, tagging on a site is good for tagging
other people's stuff, but not your own.

The problem, for me, is that mefeedia does not show my last three videos, though wordpress, fireant and iTunes do, so I can't tag it, if meFeedia doesn't pick up the videos (unless there's something I don't know about, which is always a good possibility)

You're at http://www.technorati.com/tag/Video%20Blog%20Week%202006 >

I, on the other hand, seem to be banned. My blog post from yesterday still
isn't showing up in technorati.

Re: [videoblogging] Re: VLOGGERS UNITE

2006-04-02 Thread Stephanie Bryant

On 4/2/06, Ron Watson <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote:

Interesting thread. Something that drives me crazy about this group is that there is some serious confusion about what is and is not spam.
When
someone posts about a vlog they are proud of, some people tend to think
that it is spam. I actually apologized for spamming the group when I
posted a piece that I was proud of (thanks for the feedback for all of
you that viewed and reviewed it). I think that is a problem.
I do not personally have a problem with:
* An introduction post the first time someone puts up their videoblog
* A "wow this was tough/fun/interesting" when there's something GENUINELY cool about a recent vlog they posted.
* A post introducing a videoblogging-related product or service. These
annoy me if they are the only thing the person posts, however; learn to
contribute.

I do have a problem with:
* A post every day or so with the same information posted yesterday.
Namely "check out my vlog."  Hey, if we didn't go see it
yesterday, what makes you think today is different?
* A post EVERY TIME someone posts a vlog entry. Sorry-- each individual
vlog is probably not that unique. Cool and important to you, sure. But
not enough to post every time you update. This isn't a notification list.
* People who use this group as an experiment in their marketing plans.
I can go on and on about experimentation in marketing, but the fact is,
Jason either lied about that, or is a very unethical marketer. I think
we know the latter is true, at least. There's a very limited set of
cases where it's ethical to experiment on a group without their
knowledge or permission. This isn't one of them.
* People who also privately email individual members of the group to
ask them why they haven't come to look at their vlogs. From email I
have received, Jason may have done this, as well, basically using the
videoblogging group as a source for email addresses to follow-up with
his marketing garbage.

I do agree that RSS is not a promotional tool per se, in the sense that
it doesn't get more people to see your vlog. However, RSS makes it
easier to get your vlog into certain search and index sites.
I
notice that most of the people who responded with angst in this thread
have pretty good name recognition within this community. I am not
attacking anyone, but I think that those of you who are established
Vloggers don't really see the problems for getting exposure for a new
Vlog.
This is very, very true. The "core" vloggers will, whether they like it
or not, be seen as "cliqueish" as more videobloggers enter the vlogging
world. That's not who they are, and not what they're about-- in fact,
it's hard to find a more enthusiastic, engaging, and inclusive group of
folks in the high tech world. But the nature of group dynamics is such
that this is a nearly-inevitable side effect of becoming "the experts."

Exposure for vlogs
is a problem, and it gets bigger everyday. Those problems are
compounded when, in a group about video blogging, asking for people to
check out your vlog is spam.
It's not spam. It's spam when it's every 12 hours.

Oh yea, we just signed the paperwork for our new dog training studio, boutique and art gallery.
I
will be posting video soon, and if it is good enough I will 'spam' the
group with the info, mainly in the hopes that local vlogging hero Josh
Leo will watch it and come out and vlog about it. Then maybe all of you
will get a chance to see our new place.

See, I don't see this as spammy at all, because you contributed
valuable thoughts and perspective to the discussion. There *has* to be
a high signal-to-noise ratio on this list, or it will collapse.

Andrew,To me, there are some very interesting/amazing things about RocketBoom1) The amount of viewers/downloads went from nothing to something comparable with pretty sucessful cable TV show in a year or less.
2) It did this with almost none of the overhead associated with "normal" TV or Movies. 3) It did this throgh a distribution channel very different from traditional TV and Video (the internet).4) Rocketboom has developed advertising methods very unlike things that have come before (having creative control over adds - auctioning on eBay)
5) It appears that you have and are resisting temptations that must have occured to change your methodology to be more traditional to me, the RocketBoom story is a really really interesting one, at least based on these outcomes, and, for me, I'm most interested in, how in the world did it get to be this way? how did you start? what do you do on a daily basis? what sorts of things are you considering in the future? how much was planned/vision, and how much was random? etc...
... the other thing is that, as I understand it, you grew up with this community - the Yahoo vlogging group - even today, you are sending a message to this list to ask us what we are interested in, and you guys still seem to keep up and contribute, despite all you have going ... Michael Verdi was telling me about how he used to edit for RocketBoom for a while at the beginning, and you would move his air matress on your apt floor to make room for the show ... I had not idea about those connections, for example ... what a story
... that's the sort of thing that interests me, the whole rocketboom story and; especially, how it grew and it related to our little community, and I think that would be interesting to our group, and the outside world as well ... anyway, my thoughts ... Richard

Interesting thread. Something that drives me crazy about this group is that there is some serious confusion about what is and is not spam. When someone posts about a vlog they are proud of, some people tend to think that it is spam. I actually apologized for spamming the group when I posted a piece that I was proud of (thanks for the feedback for all of you that viewed and reviewed it). I think that is a problem. I found nothing seriously distatasteful about the VLOGGERS UNITE thread from Jason, the original poster, and in his mea culpa, he brought up some issues that are important to me. Namely the fact that RSS is some kind of tool to get exposure. It is not a tool for exposure. It is simple distribution; it is shipping, more or less. I notice that most of the people who responded with angst in this thread have pretty good name recognition within this community. I am not attacking anyone, but I think that those of you who are established Vloggers don't really see the problems for getting exposure for a new Vlog. You all created this, and have deep (or not so deep) relationships with the other members of the community. People go to your Vlogs to learn. Your vlogs show up at the top of mefeedia, and have huge interconnected distribution channels because of that. There are now almost 7000 feeds at mefeedia. When I started Vlogging in December '05 there were 3000. How many were there when you started Vlogging?Exposure for vlogs is a problem, and it gets bigger everyday. Those problems are compounded when, in a group about video blogging, asking for people to check out your vlog is spam. As far as the VLOGGERS UNITE thread, I don't have a problem with it, and don't see it as spam, any more than I see this entire list as spam. I like this group, and have learned tons from it, but there is very little of what I got that I actually ask for. I appreciate the 'spam' on this list. It is some of the finest spam on the internet. I am not going to join that group, but I don't mind deleting one more of my 230  videoblogging messages in my inbox. I don't know what to do about the exposure problem, so this is kind of a meta piece, with probably little to no value, but I felt as if I should chime in and speak my mind. Oh yea, we just signed the paperwork for our new dog training studio, boutique and art gallery. I will be posting video soon, and if it is good enough I will 'spam' the group with the info, mainly in the hopes that local vlogging hero Josh Leo will watch it and come out and vlog about it. Then maybe all of you will get a chance to see our new place.  Got to run. Time for a new coat of paint and to hang some sweet signage.Later,  Ron WatsonPawsitive Vybe Canines12 E Bridge St Suite GRockford, MI 49341[EMAIL PROTECTED]301.524.6670http://pawsitivevybe.comhttp://k9disc.comhttp://k9disc.blip.tv On Mar 31, 2006, at 2:06 PM, Michael Meiser wrote: I just find one thing funny. That posting your posts to a yahoo group   is the fastest way to get your pages listed. Quite frankly the fastest way to get your pages listed is through   your RSS feed. Specifically if you use feedburner as that no only   indexes your feed and pings all the relevant websites, but also   includes mediaRSS info which is sent straight to yahoo. Furthermore building an audience of subscribers through actually   offering value not spam is the best possible way to build a long term   repeat audience... focus on promoting subscriptions not just   individual posts. Visitors to your site come and go, subscribers   stick around. When I heard about this proposed yahoo group I simply heard the term   spam group. By all means though if you want to spam yourself and   others who would spam you go right a head. A giant echo chamber...   people yelling at each other... check out my feed, no check out my   feed. Everyone shouting noone listening. I think it'd be funny. Just   don't do it here. And btw, for future reference, people don't like being "experimented   with" that definitely does not make it OK. In fact it may offend   people worse than just being clueless, because it's condescending too. -Mike mmeiser.com/blog On Mar 31, 2006, at 12:16 PM, Steve Watkins wrote: > --- In videoblogging@yahoogroups.com, "Stephanie Bryant" > <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: >> >> I don't think you know anything about Internet marketing. No kidding...

I'm still waiting for the day Yahoo! offers to buy me.
