Hell, I was in fact asking, as the "owner of the site," how to best "properly present [my] work to my viewers." I didn't say, for example, "Damn Microsoft for screwing us!" I asked if it was just MSIE for Windows or if other browsers/platforms were affected. Seemed a pretty reasonably inquiry to me. And I don't think prefacing my question with "yipe" qualifies as coming crying to the list, either. Anyway. I guess the change will cause content providers to be deluged with complaints if they don't adjust their code... but I think a fair number of folks will continue to see the growing annoyances related to MSIE and find yet another excuse to migrate to another browser. [videoblogging] Re: New Video Casting on Radio Nostalgia Network
I hate to bring this up. Really. As much as I loathe the RIAA I do respect copyright. The date of this program is 1952, well beyond the safe period of or before 1929 in which work currently falls into public domain. And I have a feeling you didn't get the permission of the copyright holders. You could make the case for archiving and sharing historical content but since you are using the whole thing that would be a tough sell. Speaking of which I could not download the video to find out the file size which must be a whopper. In the wild, wonderful and multiple definitions of videoblogging, and there are a few, this really isn't videoblogging. This is posting a video on a blog or web page. What is the difference? You did not aim the camera/webcam/screencam at anything. This is someone else's work. Another persons vision. You did not edit or alter the existing footage in any way. This was not done for review purposes nor, I suspect, offered any orginal commentary. You did appropriate descriptive information "All Movie Guide" however you did cite them as a source. I'm not saying you should not do this. There is a rich history of radio drama that needs to be carried to the next generation. And there are radio stations that do play old copies of radio dramas in the U.S. If you could find proto video/film 1920 sci-fi I would be overjoyed. I have a deep love of radio drama, both golden age and new stuff than me. And I love Sci-fi videos of any age. I hang out at a few of the BBC radio drama and storytelling channels when I get a chance. I just wanted to respectfully share some of my vlog concerns about you site. It's so far beyond overkill that it's in an alternate universe. Yes, RB has moved up in life to HD, but the overwhelming majority of their viewers are likely not making use of it. IIRC, the RB team are involved in video production for a living, so they're likely using the HD camera for other things and it just makes a nice touch to add to RB. David, I could be wrong on this, but I'm pretty sure you are not clear. I had a look at your site and you use the embed code inside an object. ActiveX loophole information from a web developer RocketBoom, Well, it finally hapenned over the weekend, and the long awaited Eolas technology patent caught up to Microsoft. Instead of paying Eolas for using their multimedia patent, Microsoft decided to put up a warning everytime ActiveX is used. Microsoft put out a lot of patches over the weekend, and one of them blocks activeX content as a default. The reason this becomes important is that your homepage now has a big warning dialog box everytime my Internet Explorer for Windows browser comes on. I sent you a screen capture from my browser the last time I tried to get on. It says "Click to run activeX" control on this webpage. Every time. Like even if I click onto another page and then click back. I don't know about you, but my logs show roughly 90 % of my users on Windows using Internet Explorer. You might get a few e-mails about this. Microsoft, being the richest and most powerful company on earth, opted to not pay patent royalty rights for a company which legitimately filled out the paperwork to get patents. Their resulting error message pushes this responsibility onto the content creators. So now developers have to find creative ways to get around this. Luckily for your web developer, he or she has to deal. The currently loopholed accepted way of doing this is writing javascript code to bypass the patent. It does not actually do anything differently. You simply use a dynamic write statement instead of writing the code directly. Apple wrote up a page for these types of scripts. Re: [videoblogging] Re: users manual for PV-GS39 - Can't find - Desperate - Any ideas?
If it makes you feel any better, Monique-- part of Panasonic's website is broken. They don't have drivers for the PV-GS65, even though Windows requires them. And when you search for PV-GS65 in the support site, you get an UNLINKED listing of the product manual. I had to go to panasonic.ca (Canadian Panasonic) to find what I needed. --StephanieOn 4/15/06, Monique Danielle <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: You are my hero!!! Re: [videoblogging] why you now have an error on all your pages
Use this brand new page at Freevlog to avoid the problem: http://freevlog.org/popup/ It uses Javascript, not ActiveX. This fix is only needed for videoblogs that have been using technology to embed the movie into the page. Anyone who's just linking to the movie file isn't affected at all. Most blogs follow the simple freevlog techniques and therefore don't need to worry about this. I'd expect the IE for Mac won't have this problem -- in part because Microsoft isn't developing IE for the Mac anymore. IE 5.5 is the last version, and it's several years old. There won't be any new versions or updates coming out. jen jenSimmons http://www.jensimmons.com On Apr 15, 2006, at 4:44 PM, Ryan Ozawa wrote: -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 On 4/15/06, andrew michael baron <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I just got a terribly unfortunate e-mail about a new patch that IE is > using to avoid paying royalties to Active-X. Instead of paying Eolas forusing their multimedia patent, Microsoft decided to put up a warningeverytime ActiveX is used. Thank you for all of the awesome advice/info you have all shared. I've been trying to find a users manual for the video camera I bought last month (my husband threw mine out). RE: [videoblogging] Green Screen & Other Tools
Thanks for the tips. Good info there. I think the target clothing rack they mention sounds like a good low-cost option. While it is somewhat more expensive ($49) the "Chrome Commercial Folding Garment Rack" from Target is an excellent framework for projection screens. It folds up well, has good wheels and is built as sturdily as a shopping cart. Using a pair of curtain rods and a sheet of blackout cloth I have been able to make a 72" wide projection screen. The one issue I would be interested in is the side tensioning which has proven to be the most challenging issue involved. Just as a sidenote with the whole mic situation... Unless your camera has 2 mic inputs, you may need to get a splitter so that you can plug both a handheld mic and use the lavalier at the same time. Otherwise, you are going to have to record either yourself or your interviewee (is that a word?) to a seperate external recorder then add the audio in post production. For a handheld there it the Electrovoice RE50 which is the ENG mic that the pros use. You can get one for under $200 and is a very sturdy mic for handheld use.
