Single clips start at $50.00 per shot.

Are there free versions?

Hey Chuck,

Actually, all of Amanda's favorite vlogs ARE vlogs.

---
The Richard Show
www.richardshow.com
Richard and his wife, Maureen, live in the Ozarks. Theirs is the
ultimate love story. Not Hollywood love, but true love - the kind you
never see in the movies.

Super Secret Dance Society
www.supersecretdancesociety.com
Shhh! It's a secret. I really can't talk about it other than to say ...
pink spandex is back!

Minnesota Stories
www.mnstories.com
Rocketboom correspondent Chuck Olsen specializes in local color. One
day he'll cover a Minneapolis band, the next a regional game like
unicycle hockey. The best clips star Chuck himself, like when he donned
a Santa suit last holiday season to answer viewer email.

One America Committee

The thing is that online it looks like the WHOLE list is hers, but the
next person listing his favorites is Kevin Sites. It's confusing.

[videoblogging] Re-Wired: Shooting

2006-04-20 Thread Steve Garfield

Jim Feeley suggests ways to make your own viral hit in his Wired
article, Wired 14.05: Lights! Camera! Vodcast!.

In his section on shooting, he suggests a lot of things that I think a
beginner shouldn't have to worry about or might get put off by
thinking, Oh that's too much work or If it has to be perfect I'm not
doing it.

So I blogged a response to this small section on shooting, and
presented a much simpler and less intensive way to get started with
vlogging.

Lucky bastard. I'm going Aalborg-Copenhagen-Chicago-SFO on my way there
and SFO-Washington DC-Copenhagen-Aalborg on the way back. It will be two
days of action-packed airport adventures (I'm paying $1300 to sit *where*
and wait?).

I would love to help in volunteering to do something like capture
whilst I am at Vloggercon, I would like to put myself down for the
iMovie and FCP Tricks one if that's okay, but this is of course
jetlag permitting. I also don't mind being a gopher either, you know
 gopher this gopher that!

Send an e-mail to Jay or Schlomo and I'm sure they'll be happy to add you
to the list of volunteers. Alternatively add your name at the appropriate
place on this page to sign up for videotaping a panel: URL:
http://wiki.vloggercon.com/index.php?title=Tasks_for_Volunteers

Also I would love to go to the launch party on the Friday night, I
checked the wiki and there doesn't seem to be any confirmation of the
venue, or should I just grab a few cell phone numbers and ring round
like we used to do for raves?

I'm pretty sure the answer here is: Patience, young padawan.

Also I might have some dollars left over at the end of my trip, there
usually is I have found, will there be a way of donating the spare
cash I have at the end to Node 101? Just that it saves me taking
them down to the bank when I get back.

Just hand them to Jay before you leave. I can make a big cardboard box
that says donations if you feel safer that way. :o)

Re: [videoblogging] Might be going to Vloggercon...(I hope)

2006-04-20 Thread Deirdre Straughan

I went to last year's vloggercon with my teenage daughter, and we both
mostly enjoyed it. I did feel a little wallflowerish at times, but
that was partly due to jetlag, partly due to my inability to toot my
own horn (there were a couple of overpowering egos in the group), and
my own somewhat cynical nature. I feel a bit of an oddball in this
group even online, because I can't convince myself that videoblogging
is going to save the world (however much I would like to believe
that), and I don't assume that capitalistic impulses are necessarily
evil. grin

I don't think that anyone at vloggercon 2005 was trying to out-cool
anyone else, though I did find more to talk about with Jakob's mom
than with Jakob. (She's way cool, I wish she'd kept in touch.)

I can't be there this year (TVBLOB will be doing our first public beta
test, and I'm in charge), but I do hope that all the oldies and
innies will make a concerted effort to make the less-famous and the
newbies feel welcome to share the limelight.

I
checked the wiki and there doesn't seem to be any confirmation of

Also I might have some dollars left over at the end of my trip,
there
usually is I have found, will there be a way of donating the
spare
cash I have at the end to Node 101? Just that it saves me taking

 booking was a synch.

Re: [videoblogging] veoh article with interesting statements from the company

2006-04-20 Thread WWWhatsup

Well, I have submitted my feed to all nature of aggregating sites/services including
DTV, and Veoh is the only one ever to have me put code in my feed
specifically for them to verify my ownership.

iTunes, as far as I know, still allows anyone to submit any feed they like.

He said Veoh from the beginning had wanted to upload only content from RSS feeds which users had explicitly submitted to Veoh. He said Veoh had required publishers submitting feeds to insert a specific snippet of code verifying they were owners of the feed. However, he said Veoh's process was bugged, and wasn't identifying which content was owned by the submitters and which wasn't. As a result, when outsiders submitted copyrighted content, Veoh ended up uploading it when it shouldn't have. He said he has since nuked all content that hasn't been adequately submitted.

Veoh allows distribution through it's P2P network but, apart from that,
what transcoding was involved? It's the original file that gets cached and distro'd.

Apple provides no linkback facility in iTunes, which has also built in transcoding
for transfer of vids to the (very commercial) iPod.

Re: [videoblogging] Re: veoh article with interesting statements from the company

2006-04-20 Thread Michael Sullivan

I think the technology and probably Dmitry's experience in this space and with P2P technology is by far a larger factor than the amount of content and users that Veoh has or had. People investing money are not usually ignorant to the core factors. The fact is, Veoh can and now likely will become a serious alternative venue for independent media makers. They have made it clear that they specialize in longer form higher quality videos.
Maybe not that enticing to some videobloggers who have no intention on creating 'more produced' and ellaborate video works, but looking forward it will be nice to have such an optional platform to utilize.
I can see you, Josh, making a brillian short film. Something above and beyond what you have already created. I can see you wanting to distribute a high quality version of it and not wanting to jump through the traditional hoops of the industry... and instead choosing to consider a service like Veoh.
Also, imagine all the filmmakers who are not bloggers. Anything that gives them a new vehicle for moving out their content to the masses at no cost that is far from a bad thing!sull

Hello,Maybe I'm missed something, but iSquint seems to be violating the GNU GPL license.(It's using software licensed under the GNU GPL but is not itself also licensed under that license. And it's not releasing the source code.)
Specifically, it is violating the licenses of liba52 and x264. (Both of which it looks like iSquint uses.)Now,... it may be that he's done this by accident. He's linking to FFmpeg; which is (normally) licensed under the GNU LGPL. (And that license does NOT require you to make your software Free and opensource software too. And thus does NOT compel you to release your source code.)
But, he's compiling FFmpeg with --enable-gpl so that he can bring in liba52 an x264. Which then forces that special version of FFmpeg to become GPL (instead of just LGPL).
Which forces iSquint to become GPL. Which compels him to release his source code (under the terms of the GNU GPL).Does anyone know the author of iSquint?

[videoblogging] Can vloggers hack mountains

2006-04-20 Thread robert a/k/a r
Hey all,

The press appears to be cubbying peeps who make video (i.e., personal, documentary, comedy, etc.) and vlog it into types, which is not necessarily good or bad. I'm wondering if vloggers can leverage this tendency.

Also, as you know, I'm particularly interested in education and humanitarian projects and am curious how many vloggers have set their focus on such projects.

More, I tried to drum up support earlier this week for Jon's Nata Village
http://natavillage.org>
endeavour, and I don't believe a lot of vloggers have yet blogged about or re-vlogged the project though I did notice a few. Certainly a bit of press for such projects, not only Nata Village, has the potential to improve the finances, and in the Nata case that money, per the blog, goes fully to the village. If I'm wrong and a lot of you have participated by vlogging or directly donating I'll stand corrected, which I would certainly prefer.

Does anyone have insight into how many vloggers have focused in on and working towards a particular educational or humanitarian topics, I think it would be cool to help the press see that category, not only from the perspective of those in the category but for vloggers in general.

Wasn't vlogging going to be a tool to help change / improve the world? Wouldn't it help differentiate vloggers from those, who happen to be of great number, who just post entertaining video (not that I have anything against that, I attempt to do a bit of it myself)?

And speaking of saving the world, or at least the Internet, have a look at this, is there a possibility it can help?
http://pulver.com/savethenet/>

Perhaps it's the fine weather here in NYC today, I'm feeling there's an opportunity to hack a few mountains out there. Can we make a list of those vlogging towards a non-entertainment goal, a new category for the press and for us?

Great thoughts.

FYI, I'm interviewing Jon Rawlinson about the Nata Village
blog/vlog project this weekend. Hopefully for Rocketboom,
or Human Wire. Or MN Stories, or anywhere really. :-)

Minnesota Stories sometimes dents molehills. Definitely
approaching things form the hyperlocal level, equally important
as the global. My goal is for it to be a place for otherwise unheard
voices. Most of the time it's just entertaining stuff around town,
but it's going in interesting directions.

One project I'm excited about is Citizens for Election Integrity.
Minnesota is going to audit elections to ensure accuracy in
every county through this nonpartisan organization. I'm going
to set up a vlog for them to get the word out and recruit
volunteers. I anticipate this will be the primary way people
learn about this issue and how they can help.

I think just about every non-profit could benefit from vlogging.
What better way to show the world what you're doing, what's
important, why you should care and participate?

Re: [videoblogging] Re: veoh

2006-04-20 Thread Joshua Kinberg

Its not just that the work is a derivative, or that its a full clip
rather than a preview -- the bigger issue for me is that Veoh used
vloggers and their content to make it seem as though they had a
growing and vibrant community, people who've signed up, agreed to
terms of service, and were participants in the Veoh community. This
was not true. They took people's content and made bogus profiles for
them. They forced users into an opt out situation when they had
never in fact opted in. This is dishonest.

I'm confused. I thought that iSquint was a derivative of Handbrake.
If so does Handbrake use FFmpeg too? I thought that Handbrake was
software ported over to MacOSX from BeOS. Whatever the case they are

just a follow up on this meeting

some people said that the flashmeeting system prompted them for a
password when changing screen size

sounds like a bug with the software but you can get the password from
the meeting url

if the meeting is

http://flash.kmi.open.ac.uk:8080/fm/index.php?pwd=56bf97-4034

then the password is

56bf97-4034

flashmeeting can remember your settings and so you shouldn't have to do
this every time unless you like switching your view a lot :)

fyi, markus

Re: [videoblogging] Re: PJKPRODUCTIONS IN THE US!!!

2006-04-20 Thread Nathan Freitas

The BART from the SF airport (SFO) is comfortable and fast. You catch
the Airport shuttle train (which makes a big loop around the terminals)
and get off when it says BART, which is near the parking garages. Then
you walk across the platform, buy a ticket, and then get on the train there.

Two things-
 1) Some terminals (like Delta) don't connect right to the shuttle.
You might have to navigate through some parking lot walkways.
 2) BART charges by distance, so you'll need about a $5 ticket to
make it into the city proper. You swipe your ticket when you enter and
when you exit, so don't misplace it!

The ride should be about 30 minutes, and you'll either want to get off
at 16th st. Mission or Civic Center (on Market Street). The walk from
both stops is not bad, as long as you aren't loaded up too heavy.

That's my two cents.

...and if you are loaded up too heavy, there is a
street car which runs up Market St. and should let you off pretty close to the
hotel.

NOTE FOR INCOMING PARTICIPANTS:

"Street cars" and "Cable cars" are two different
vehicles. Natives would appreciate it if you don't confuse the two.
"Street cars"are connected tooverhead lines, "Cable cars" run on
underground cables.

Also, while I'm trying tohelp the group
become Politically Correct, it is "San Francisco" not "Frisco." People
have suffered severe bodily harm from using the latter term. (Kind of like
a Brit asking someone for a rubber when he wants to erase
something.)

so...if anyone is bored between now and Vloggercon and live in SF, it would be fantastic to see what it's like on the BART, or, what the area is like around the Swedish hall, etc.If I lived there and was a videoblogger, I think that would make a great promo...just saying ;)

Re: [videoblogging] veoh article with interesting statements from the company

2006-04-20 Thread Joshua Kinberg

I'm talking about HTTP stats that would be known to the server serving up the content.
If Veoh has taken your content via RSS unbeknownst to you and is redistributing it from their servers as though you are one of their users who has opted in to the service (but you are not), then you would never know your content is being redistributed there and would have zero knowledge of the viewing statistics.
