I'm posting less, but editing more video.

That together with working full time, going to school part time, being a full
time parent, working on a few books, and dealing with our lovely US economy.

BUT I'm still vlogging, lots of videos about the adventures big and small the
boys and I go on @ http://www.TheRamblingLoggerhead.com. And even started the
little one vlogging @ http://www.RyansKitchen.tv but it's tough fitting
everything in.

I think the decline in list traffic is natural. The mechanics of video
blogging have gotten easier, those questions will fade. The purpose of video
blogging is becoming more defigned so thost discussions will fade. And the
legitimacy of video blogging is becomming more accepted by the world at large
so that discussion will also fade.

Still I believe that most are out with their cameras, or home in their editing
software.

[videoblogging] Starting Young

2008-04-27 Thread Christopher Bergeron
So I've been working for a while now on starting a few projects.

Setup was a bit slow and thing were starting to come together when my
seven year old son informs me that he wants to do his own Video Blog.
He pitched the idea one night at bedtime not too long ago and he was
doing so well with his brainstorming that I was taking notes. He said
he wanted to do a show about food, about kids and food. To try and
show kids that they can cook. Show parents that their kids can cook.
And teach people about good food that's good for them. We talked for
quite some time about just how he was thinking about doing that.

He talked and asked questions about his favorite food network stars,
and then sat up and asked. "Hey dad. If we do a good job, I mean a
super good job, and really help people, do you think we could earn
some money doing it?" "Yes Ryan," I said "Helping people is exactly
how you make money." My little capitalist, wanting to monetize from
day one.

In his dreamy falling asleep voice that night he said "I'm going to be
a star daddy" and then he was out. Kinda hard to let something like
that go.

SO his first episode went online this weekend. He is very proud of
himself and is already planning next weeks show. He's loving the
attention he's getting especially the comments that are starting to
come in. I think he did very well indeed for his first time out of
the gate. Heck he's doing better than I am.

http://www.RyansKitchen.tv

Now his three year old brother wants to get in on the action. It just
goes to show that you're never too young.

Hope everyone is having a fun weekend.

[videoblogging] No Idea Which Camera to Get?

2008-02-26 Thread Christopher Bergeron
I've got an old Cannon ZR200 so I'm not exactly dead in the water,
although it was damaged last year because of water... BUT I just
mailed away my Xacti E1.. Very tramatic. I've been using it with a
dead LCD screen for weeks.

I'd like to buy another camera to use while I wait for the E1 to be
returned. Hopefully with the same good fortune as Ryanne! But I'm not
sure what I should get?

I'm temped to buy another E1 and have two of them? We play alot in the
water, rain, muck, etc. And my old camera had a water related accident.

But the HD1000 is also tempting? Not sure what I should do. It would
be nice to have the portability of the Xacti and the ability to have an
external mic.. And 1080i ?

Has anyone tried the Xacti HD1000?

Thanks

Re: [videoblogging] Re: sanyo xacti e1 LCD Screen issue

2008-02-19 Thread Christopher Bergeron
Ryanne.

That's great! I was feeling a bit self concious about
wanting to buy another one, but as long as I'm not
alone I suppose it can't be that bad. The biggest
problem with the xacti's are they they are addicting.

It's great to just have a camera in my pocket all the
time, and like you said great picture and great sound.
But next time I'm going to get the equiptment
replacement plan where I can just swap it out for a
new one if it happens again.

I would still buy it.

Just buy it in a store and get the carry it and swap
it out no questions asked deal.

It's still a great camera. I'm currious how support
is going to work out, BUT I'm seriously tempted to buy
a 2nd E1 ! ! To hold me though durring the wait and
then of course to have a second camera once the other
is returned.

Unless I get distracted by another camera. I think
I'd like one with an external mike jack... Hmmm my 2nd
camera doesn't need to be waterproof? Any
suggestions?

Can't afford the Canon XH-A1 though... Need to make a
decision and place an order of some kind before I can
mail this bad boy off to be repaired.

Re: [videoblogging] Where is the Sanyo HD Waterproof Camera?

2008-01-29 Thread Christopher Bergeron
I've heard bad things about their first HD but good
things about the new HD1000? Hopefully it is as nice
as everyone says but I'm going to hold off for a
while. Maybe. I don't know I don't want to spend any
money but if the HD1000 turns out to be a good
camera.. it is certainly a beautifuly designed piece
of art.. They need to make it waterproof (keeping the
mic jack for when on land) and then I won't be able to
resist.

[videoblogging] Where is the Sanyo HD Waterproof Camera?

2008-01-27 Thread Christopher Bergeron
I've got the Sanyo Waterproof Camera, the fully submersible one..
Man do I love that camera, but I'm anxiously awaiting the HD Version.
(no announcement or rumors I just want them to develop it because it
would ROCK)

I've been surprised how much having a waterproof camera helps.
Asside from the regular playing in the water I had my previous camera
die in a lite rain!

The next time the camera is going to be a great help is my upcomming
Speical Olympics Fundraiser!

Seems I've volunteered to help raise money for Special Olympics.
Worse of course is that I've agreed that if I meet my goal I'll jump
into the FREEZING Cold Ocean in New Hampshire on February 3rd with
the other nuts like myself who've agreed to this insanity! Man I
love having a waterproof camera.

If anyone would like to donate any amount helps, best of all is that
you can donate online at my Participant's Page:

http://www.firstgiving.com/christopherbergeron

The event is called the Penguin Plunge and it's an annual thing so
there is the risk that I'll be bothering you again next year.

So I guess I'm asking for you to sponsor me on this insanity. There
will be a vlog post of course. So the fun doesn't need to end when
your finished parting with your money!

Everyone knows the great work that the Special Olympics does. And
that's what it's really all about, doing what's right for the kids.
Just donate what you can and remember the difference you're going to
make to some kid.

Thanks.
-Chris
http://www.TheRamblingLoggerhead.com

ps. I hate forwards but if you know anyone else who either has too
much money and needs a tax right off, or who has kids, knows any
kids, or even better LIKES kids and wants to see these special kids
have the opportunity that the Special Olympics gives them please
forward this email to them, or heck forwarding this message to your
entire mailbox would be nice. Or a blog post? Hint Hint Hint Thanks
Again.

Re: [videoblogging] I'm baaaack! Business Vlogs

2006-05-15 Thread Christopher Bergeron

I'm in the process of setting up a "Business Vlog"
although I haven't done a video yet.  I've got a few
videos planned but I've been extra busy.

My first video was about the Town's Recycling program
but unfortunatly the town pulled the program when some
residents were... Abusing the freedom of the system.

Although my next set of advertizing is already done
and will be going out soon and it does direct people
to visit my website and check out some videos so I
need to get of my rear and get working.

Vlogging and Business can indeed go hand in hand, from
tutorials, to advertizing, to business updates.  Video
is such a great medium and the internet is such a
great distribuition method.

I'm in Real Estate and I can't think of a better way
to answer real estate questions, do tutorials, show
the area, show specific properties.  I'm working on a
set of Real Estate Tutorials now.. How to get your
house sold in this new market.  I think people will
enjoy them, and more importantly it will hopefully
make people see me as more of an expert as the next
guy.

I'll post to the group when I get my website
completed.

Right now it's online in an incomplete state and
thanks to some area flooding it's gettings some
attention on the backend today.

Although you never did mention what business you're in
and how you plan on using vlogging in your business?

-Chris

http://www.AskBergeron.com <- that would be the Real
Estate Website.
http://www.TheRamblingLoggerhead.com <- That would be
the personal vlog.

Yes.

Many of the blog packages have this feature. I use it
on my own video blog all the time. Only about 40% of
what I make is public, and even less of what I write,
and no one notices unless they have an account and get
all of the extra content.

Since there is such a wide variety of blogging
software, and the procedure is different for each
software package I'm sure if you shared the software
you are using to generate the feed some one here would
have had exposure to it and be able to help. If your
using b2Evolution I've got you covered, but I'm not
very familiar with the other packages?

Re: [videoblogging] Dvd-to-iPod Video converter

I just downloaded their free trial
(http://www.pqdvd.com/dvd-to-ipod-video-converter.html)
and I am doing a test conversion of a wmv file to mp4.
It looks really slick and may help those who are
looking for that function as well.

With the ability to Rip your DVD Movies & convert

this one may end up to be a winner.

I'm going to play with it a bit and I'll share what I
find out. So far it is very basic and simple, and
only $35.

Re: [videoblogging] Revver

2005-10-31 Thread Christopher Bergeron
> can content that doesn't have thousands of viewers a
> day make money?

I think so.

I have found when it comes to making money it's all
about sales. You're either selling your skills to
your employer, selling Ice Cream on the beach, selling
seats on a tour bus, or selling advertising.

If your video blog is hugely popular sure you can sell
advertising to a wide variety of buyers, but if you
want to make money with a video blog that only has a
few thousand or even a few hundred subscribers I'm
sure it can be done.

The first thing that comes to mind is being
"Sponsored" by an outdoor outfitter chain for your
Geo-Cashing video blog, or self sponsoring with your
own business and have your travel video blog's 500
subscribers fill your tour bus which you then enjoy
the trip yourself video blogging.

And if your lucky you can make money doing a video
blog you enjoy doing.

In the end I have always been told there are two ways
to earn a living, a job that you work at, and just
being rich...

Since I'm not rich, yet.. I'm still trying for the job
I work at that "Feels" like play...

I'll get there eventually.

Re: [videoblogging] Re: top feedburner vlogs.. steve garfield gets bumped by the boob

> generally be reserved for friends/family.

My though on Themed Content Vlogs -VS- Personal
Content Vlogs is that both will "Thrive" depending on
which side of the "Thriving" coin you look at.

Rocketboom is a good example of a VLOG with a theme
that has a thriving subscription base.

However a quick look at vlogmap shows me at least how
much the personal vlogs are thriving.

I think we are seeing a HUGE proliferation of vlogs,
the fast majority of which may be personal vlogs,
although there will be a thriving community of
personal vlogers few will have a personality that
generates a large subscription base for their vlogs.

The few who are able to develop a theme and a show
like approach will have a better chance at developing
a thriving subscription base but as with anything
there will be exceptions.

That is the excitement!!

Those with popular, innovative, entertaining ideas,
and those who can truly educate, but are limited by
"Cash" or "The Man" can overcome those limitations
through vlogging and can reach the audience they so
richly deserve be it 50,000 daily who love Rocketboom,
or 75 people who want Yamadori Tips.

And those who are less focused topic wise aren't
penalized for it, those with the personality can
generate a following of fans, and those who's only
interest is ensuring that grandma, and a few cousins
who scattered the globe have the latest video of the
kittens in the barn or the kids learning to ride a 2
wheeler can do so, and be on equal footing with their
distribution capabilities as CBS News regardless of
how many viewers they have.

Welcome to the future.

Television has Evolved.
The visual medium is now for everyone.

Soon everyone will have a voice.

Not every voice will be popular, but all will have an
opportunity to be heard.

Re: [videoblogging] QT Pro capturing video (windows xp) Please help

2005-10-27 Thread Christopher Bergeron
I found QT Pro to be a bit lacking in the video
editing department. So following some of the advice
from the list I'm now using Movie Maker to
capture/edit my video then I export as DV-AVI then
"Open" with Quicktime Pro & "Export" from Quicktime
Pro as an MPeg-4.

I have a feeling that I'm going to pick up a copy of
Premiere Elements for the more "Involved" videos.

Re: [videoblogging] PC Video Edititing Software

2005-10-26 Thread Christopher Bergeron
I have downloaded the free trial of Premier Elements
and think it is definatly something to concider for
once I finish fixing the roof (don't worry there will
be a video).

BUT

Using another sugestion I have used Quicktime Pro to
Export an AVI to Mpeg4 format. Hopefully it turns out
to be iPod friendly!

I have uploaded it to OurMedia like I do all of my
videos, but this one doesn't stream? I know that I'm
overlooking something simple. When exporting I used
MP4 Video AAC Audio and I clicked the "Enable
Streaming" button and left the defaults on the screen
of Maximum Packet Size = 1450 and Maximum Packet
Duration = 100

I'm not sure what else I'm supposed to do to get it to
stream?

[videoblogging] PC Video Edititing Software

2005-10-25 Thread Christopher Bergeron
I was currious if anyone in the group had any insite
on PC Video Editing Software.

Right now I'm using Microsoft Movie Maker, because
it's free, and VERY fast to toss together a video
with.

I tried Avid Free DV, but I didn't like it very much
and it was a DOG on my PC.

I tried Adobe Premire (Free Trial) and enjoyed the
functionality but don't see myelf being able to spend
the money.

I've been thinking about Vegas Movie Studio from Sony
but I want to be open to anything that will quickly
produce an iPod compatible video on a PC.

Does anyone have any sugestions or experiance with
producing an iPod compatible video on a PC?

Thanks

Re: [videoblogging] Re: watch video on your pocket pc

2005-10-18 Thread Christopher Bergeron
FeederReader is a GREAT Aggregator w/Enclosure
support, unfotunatly I registed Egress before I
discovered it. Being a stubon @ss... Since I broke
down and paid for the registration I want to get my
monies worth.

I noticed that there is yet another Aggregator
w/Enclosure support for the PPC "PPC Podcast Beta" but
I haven't checked that one out.

I don't find myself at a PC I can load ANT on very
often, although I haven't tried to load it on my USB
drive yet...

Being able to download my feeds on the go is a very
cool function... Now all we need is for EVDO to get
cheap enouph and to have "everyplace" be hot.

I keep myself rather busy, so it's nice to be able to
catch up on my video blogs in the car (when stopped
waiting for someone/something), in line, "Hey what's
that?" usually happens I'm actually thinking of having
some "info" cards done up with some URL's at
www.vistaprint.com (their free business cards)..

Wherever. Whenever.
AND the TCPMP Player plays ALL the formats...

Conveniance is nice.

but with it's limitations, the PDA is the way to go.

I'm using an iPAQ with a camera, and even shoot some

Re: [videoblogging] VIDEO IPOD!!!!!

2005-10-12 Thread Christopher Bergeron
Cut and pasted from Apple's Site:

http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?family=iPod

60 Gig
$399.00

30 Gig
$299.00

Free laser engraving

Specifications
2.5-inch color display
5.5 ounces
2.4 x 4.1 x .55 inches

http://www.apple.com/ipod/ipod.html

Witness the evolution of the revolution. First it
played songs. Then photos. Then podcasts. Now iPod
plays video, changing the way you experience your
music and more. Again. In lighter, thinner 30GB and
60GB models starting at $299, the new iPod is music to
your eyes.

Better Yet
Time for the world’s best music player to take the
stage for another encore. In 30GB and 60GB(1) models
that hold up to 15,000(2) songs, full-color album art
and up to 25,000 photos(3), the new iPod makes the
most of your music and more. Yeah, you’ve heard that
tune before. Only now, you can watch it, too. With
support for up to 150 hours(4) of video and a 2.5-inch
color display, the new iPod lets you take music videos
and TV shows on the road.

More and Less
The new iPod boasts up to 20 hours of battery life(5),
five hours more than before. Plus, you get a bigger
display and one more iPod color — sleek black. But
here’s the kicker: At under half an inch thin, the new
30GB iPod takes up about 45 percent less room than the
original iPod. Even the new 60GB model is 10 percent
thinner than the fourth-generation 20GB iPod. More
features in less space? Sounds like iPod.

Hold Everything
Now you can put all your music in your pocket and
still have room for, well, practically everything
else. Catch up on your reading with audiobooks. Browse
your memories with photo slideshows, complete with
music. Watch video podcasts, music videos and your
favorite TV shows. Consult your calendar or look up an
email address. Even check the time in another city or
time your fastest lap. The new iPod keeps it all close
at hand.

Spin Some Tunes

The Apple Click Wheel gives you access to your entire
music, photo and video library — from one thumb.
Control volume and browse using the touch-sensitive
surface. Play. Pause. Rewind and fast-forward. Rate
your favorites. Create playlists on the go. Launch
photo slideshows. The Click Wheel puts everything at
your fingertips, so you can keep your eyes and ears on
the music.

Sync, Look and Listen
Playing your iPod is only half the fun. Try filling it
with downloads from the iTunes Music Store. Choose
from over 2 million songs, 20,000 podcasts, 2,000
music videos or your favorite ABC and Disney
television shows, download them to your Mac or PC and
sync them to your iPod. Add an optional audio cable to
play music from the iPod to your home stereo or use an
optional S-video cable with iPod to play VJ on your
TV. You can perform the same big-screen feat with iPod
photo slideshows. Oh, and you can do it all from
across the room using the optional Universal Dock and
handy new Apple remote.

I already have a movil vlogging receiver.

I use my iPAQ rx3715 as my mobil vlogging station.

It's a PPC and I use "Egress" as my RSS Reader since
it supports enclosures. I use to for general RSS,
Podcasts, and vlogs. Being wireless I don't even sync
to the PC anymore.

And since the 3715 is the PPC with the camera I can
take video wherever I am as well. Tonight I'm going
to pop the SD card and edit some video I took this
morning (the front lawn is already covered with
leaves) with the iPaq.

I'm still looking for PPC Video Editing Software, and
of course waiting for the "OurMedia Upload Tool for
PPC"

Blog spam, what a waste of bandwidth.  I still see
them coming in and waisting my bandwidth when I check

Well you could loose a few decimal places but that
probably won't give you the effect you're looking for
but since you would be the one choosing the Lat/Lon
for any video you could be as accurate as you choose
to be.

If your looking for a Blogging software to run on your
own server.  I can't recommend
http://www.b2evolution.net enough.  It is easy for the
novice and fully customizable for the expert.  The
whole thing is written in PHP, and uses "Skins" it
very easy to customize the "look & feel" of your site,
although it does take a simple modification to support
enclosures (a single file replacement).  It supports
unlimited number of Blogs each one with it's own RSS
Feed, and with the skins each one can have it's own
look and feel.  And my personal favorite the backend
is MySQL making it easy to backup and restore in case
of a disaster.

The MeFeedia site would do that for you although it
doesn't sound to hard to write one up.

> Which pc editing software is the best?

For video editing on the PC on the one extreme is
Microsoft Movie Maker included free with XP Service
Pack 2 is certainly enough for what most people are
looking for but it has it's limitations.  The other
extreme is Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5 that comes with a
bit of a price tag.  I would suggest Microsoft Movie
Maker if your a novice at video editing, although if
you have some time to kill you can download a free 30
day preview of Premiere on the Adobe Website and there
are some tutorials to be found through a google search
or two.  Even if you don't go with adobe because of
its HUGE price tag, the tutorials do help with
learning about video editing in general, and can be
applied to the very huge number of video editing
software package in the middle of those two extremes.

> What do people use to capture video? Is digital
> camera

Anything is Okay, There are some using Professional
Digital video cameras, others using CameraPhones.
Most are using the consumer MiniDV video cameras, and
in that range there is a lot of variety and price
range.  And there are a lot who are using the video
function on their digital still cameras.  I did my
first vlogs with an iPAQ 3715.  I would suggest using
whatever you have and going from there.

Ultimatly, shoot with what you have, edit with what
you have, and post something...  You'll be glad you
did.

Re: [videoblogging] DTV Registration

2005-08-10 Thread Christopher Bergeron

Well.. I'm certainly not married to WMV, it was just
the most convenient format when I started.  I'm quite
sure that once a standard emerges WMV will not be it.
I'd just like to hold off converting all of my files
until something as ubiquitous as MP3 emerges.

I have a feeling that if the Video Ipod becomes as
popular as the MP3 IPod the standard that will emerge
could very well be QT, although in the end I don't
really care what the "masses" choose as the standard
I'll adapt.

As for Fireant... Already in the directory and loaded
on several PC's

[videoblogging] DTV Registration

2005-08-10 Thread Christopher Bergeron

I know that DTV is still in beta, and is still MAC
focused with a windows version planed for "later".

Does anyone know if WMV files will be supported in the
final version?  I went to add my feed and I'm not sure
if it doesn't like me because of the WMV enclosures or
the "Slowness" of my server, although I did try my
feedburner backup feed and it didn't like that one
either.

Codecs Codecs Everywhere;
Perhaps the Video IPod will "Force" a standard.

[videoblogging] CBS Blog not a VLog yet, still not using Enclosures

2005-07-21 Thread Christopher Bergeron

http://www.cbsnews.com/feeds/rss/video.rss

Although it's a great feed and usefull it's not using enclosures.
Kinda sux a bit, but a good first step for a major news company.

I tossed it into FireANT to get the new news about London today but no
enclosures...

ALthough their PodCasting so enclosures aren't too foreign to their
technical team.

Congratulations!

Perhaps it will become more easy in time, money =
time.  that's how I look at it.

> will money become the new comment?

There's an Idea, I have a "Donate" button on my page,
mostly because I was feeling odd one day and figued I
wanted to see how they worked..  Perhaps I should put
a replica of the Donate button into the comment script
for my page.

How much do people really expect from their "tip jar"?
Enouph for a cup of joe or, enopuph to take a jay off
and spend it VLogging instead of going to the day job?

> if i don't make any money after a certain post will
> i stop making
> videos like that one?
> will donations dictate content?

Probably not, now if I stopped making money going into
work each day I'd proably stop going, but it comes
down to WHY your doing the posts your doing.  I'm not
making any money doing my posts.  If I started making
money on some and not others what would I do.  It
would depend on HOW much, if it was enouph perhaps I
would start an additional vlog and showcase the ones
that were popular enouph to elisit cash donations.
But I wouldn't stop posting what I post now, why?
because today I post them for reasons other than cash,
just because one style or topic becomes popular enouph
to generate a cash flow, doesn't mean that the
non-cash motivators that I have today would disipear.
It just means I would get to spend less time at the
office and more time playing.

> i have total freedom to create and teach
> it's like a grant.

That's what I am excited about with the technology, it
enables anyone to post anything at any time.

> i just don't want it to hinder people
> i don't want people to stop creating content because
> no one donates

If someone comes in thinking that they will be able to
start a vlog and earn a full time income off it,
that's fine.  And more power to them if they are able
to, however those with VLogs today aren't earning a
living, yet they continue to post.  Because they are
excited about the technology, have something to say,
or perhaps we're all just EGO Maniacs.. Doesn't
matter..

Money is a powerful motivator, and a powerful
enabiling force (especially if you are able to pull a
full time income, imagine having 30-40 hrs a week to
do a VLOG)

But money is not the only motivator.  and today it is
the least previlant motivator in the VLogging
community.

The excitement for me is in the technology, even as
the money comes, as it will, when corporations, and
production houses use vlogging technologies with
subscriptions and tv commercial style advertizing.  To
"Sell" their content.  The technology itself will
STILL allow almost anyone to post their own idividual
content to have their voice heard.  And who knows,
maybe even have their daily cooking Vlog make them as
popular as Emril and make them as rich.

The technology allows all to be heard, all to be seen,
even when money isn't part of the equation.

I am confident there will always be people who want to
produce conetent just because they enjoy it, feel
pationate about it, and all of the other non-money
reasons that we all have for posting our content
today.

Although I'd love to quit my job and use THAT time to
Vlog for cash, especially on something fun.  But I'd
still do the foolish posts I do now.  Even if I needed
a seporate web site.

Anyway That's my thought on Cash 'N Vlog
