Sounds like you are making a series.

blip.tv can help.

1. by default, show the youtube version of a video

Upload once to blip.tv and have blip.tv post a version to youtube for you.  
Embed that on your blog.

2. create an itunes-friendly rss feed so people can find and
subscribe to the video podcast via itunes.

Upgrade to the pro version of blip.tv and blip.tv will create an iTunes 
friendly version for you and make an itunes friendly feed. You can submit that 
feed to feedburner if you want tracking
 
3. when an iphone or ipad or other device without flash views the
site, show an html5 version of the H.264 video

not sure how you can do this without embedding the blip.tv player on your site. 
 On my site http://stevegarfield.blogs.com the blip.tv player recognises the 
iPad and plays a compatible version.

someone who knows more than me might be able to tell you how to switch players 
depending on the client viewing your blog

Both the Livestream and Ustream desktop apps work even better than the web 
based.

Most important is that you have a fast internet connection, preferably wired 
and not subject to going down if all the attendees jump on the web.

Just wanted to let you know that my book, Get Seen, was released on Amazon.com

My first post to this group was on June 6th, 2004.

The first message in this group was June 1, 2004.

Mine was the 6th message.

It's been a wild ride from 2004 to 2010.

I remember the first Vloggercon in NYC in 2005 and the second in SF in 2006.

My book is a nice how to guide for people starting out in online video.  For 
some of us who have been putting video on blogs wince 2004, it's seems so easy 
now.

When we started there was no YouTube, we were worried that our videos would get 
popular, because that would cost us money.

Now we've got a myriad of free hosting solutions for have lots of great 
features.

But there still are and will always be people starting out.

That's where my book comes in.  In the book I talk about choosing a camera, 
getting good sound and lighting, and how to conduct interviews. Also, how to 
edit and post, and how to go live.

I've interviewed a number of Yahoo! videoblogging group members.

I made a post today called, Where To Buy Get Seen. It's a very simple post 
showing where people can order the book.

I love what Cory Doctrow says about Twitter and Facebook, reminds me of what 
people said about videoblogging...

you talk about social media:

is banal blather

Yes, it certainly is. The reason for that is that most of it is "social 
grooming" – messages passed between friends and family members as a way of 
maintaining social cohesion. The meaning of the messages isn't "u look h4wt 
dude" or "wat up wiv you dawg?" That's merely the form. The meaning is: "I am 
thinking of you, I care about you, I hope you are well."

I don't call my parents in Canada and recount the latest additions to my 
daughter's vocabulary because they need to know that the kid can say "elephant" 
and "potty" now; I call them up to say, "all is well with your son and his 
family", and "you are in my heart", and "I love you".

Criticizing the "banality" of Facebook conversation is as trite and ignorant as 
criticising people who talk about the weather. There's a reason we say "Did you 
sleep well?" at breakfast and "How was your weekend?" when we turn up to the 
office on Monday (and it's not that we care about the weekend or the rest)."

Hi Amani.

You know I think you're doing a great job by sharing yor knowledge on your 
site.  ONe thing you could do is add more text to your video posts.

In this example you are explaining how to use a pro mic, but the reader needs 
to view hte video to learn how.

If you add text to describe what's in your video, it will make the video easier 
to be found via Google.

You also call it a 'profesional microphone,' I'd call it an 'electro-voice RE20 
professional microphone' and link THAT back to electro-voice.

After writing the review, I'd drop the company an email to let them know it's 
out there.  It they are on twitter, send them a message there.

By doing hte interview, you're helping people learn more about the product and 
it's valuable.

In my case, I bought all my equipment my self and blogged about how I was using 
it to make video.  In the beginning when we were all learning, when I posted 
each video, I also explained how I made it.

Even recently I purchased a number of new cameras and microphone to test for my 
book, Get Seen.  It was hard contacting each of the companies and some don't 
even have a presence on social media sites.

For those products that I had to have in the book, I borrowed a product, or 
tried one from a friend.

When I saw that no one had done a review of the iPod touch when it added a 
video recorder, I went to the Apple Store nad did a review there and took 
product shots.

The most last thing I added to the book was a review of the new Windows Media 
Maker that runs on Windows 7.  I learned it and made a movie and posted it 
while at the local Microsoft center for a presentation.

Once you have a history of being someone who can write well and review 
products, companies shold want to contact you.

I love this quote about popularity contests, "I hate them until I win, then I

I'm happy to see that the Streamy's have a category for Best Vlogger.

That's great because it brings us back to the individual, as opposed to almost 
all the other categories that are for a Web Series.

There's nothing wrong with Web Series, but I'm glad this individual category 
got in there, even if they still label the data entry boxes with the word 
'series'.

The Flip minoHD saves files as MP4, the Kodak Zi8 as MOV.

Both work fine in iMovie.

I have not tried the new flip yet with the bigger screen.

I love the Zi8's mic in jack. It has a replaceable battery too.

Here's a video I shot at the New England Auto Show this weekend in 720p 60 fps, 
edited in iMovie.

videos. Over here it's always been an unwritten rule not to promote your self 
or to post links to your videos. We always felts that if you were interested 
you'd be getting them via RSS, via FireAnt! ;-)  Ah, the good old days.

So Adam Quirk suggested opening up a thread for people to post links to videos.

I'll start with one of my mom. I love doing these with her. Just turn on the 
camera and she shares what she can't open.

THe sound is out of sync nas was out of sync on my iPhone. I emailed support.

The editing interface is nice and I shot a few clips and strung them all 
together with a transation.

I had to exit the app a few times to make the video display while editing, but 
I didn't loose the work in process.

It was fun to use and I'm sure they'll fix the audio.

new video everyday.

Then  you could play them in sequence with the contols that allow skiping ahead.

When I was in NYC this weekend we were talking about the history of vloggercon 
and if there was going to be another one.

People want to have another one, but no one wants to run it.

I was talking to hte folks at Blog World Expo and they are interested in adding 
in Vloggercon to their October event. They would handle all the registration.

Blog World Expo also now combines New Media Expo. 

Are people interested in this?

Bill Densmore out at UMass has reserved the campus for June 24-27 for  
a conference.

'A Mashup of Conferences'
We were talking about calling it something like 'A Mashup of  
Conferences' and inviting lots of people to co-host their conferences  
there that weekend.

In 2006 he ran Media Giraffe conference on journalism, MGP2006.

TOPICS and GROUPS
I'd already thought of the possibility of having a Podcamp Amherst out  
there.

He's going to corral the media and education people.

What do you think about getting a bunch of Social Media people to join  
in?

I'd help in getting multi media/video production people...

Kind of like a pirate ship conference.

In addition to social media, video, podcasting I was also thinking  
about Etsy crafts people, moped riders, and photographers, like  
that... a wide range...

Also, it'd be fun to schedule hikes and social events around it too.

You are right that it was al about learning how to videoblog back then.

We were all watchiing everyone's videos.

Think about that.

Everyone on the list was watching every single video on the internet.  ;-)

Well, every single video blog...

It was technically challenging... so t here were fewer people doing it.

Links
Clutter up the list with posts of "here's a link to my most recent video of...: 
 No way.  We 
had RSS for that..

It's weird to think that it was frowned upon for people to point to their new 
videos.

We were all watching everyone's new videos any way so cluttering up the list 
with pointers 
wasn't something that was done...

Now everything has changed.

We need pointers.  They now pop up on twitter and friend feed.

I always wanted FireAnt to let me see the popular videos that my friends were 
watching...  
Now it seems like we are getting that organically from a number of sources.

Vlog
It still irritates me when I hear someone say they posted a new vlog. They 
actually made a 
new 'vlog post'...not created a whole new blog to hold videos...  but I'm 
getting over it... 
and understand that the video itself has become the vlog.

YouTube
It's also funny to look back at how we dismissed YouTube because it didn't 
allow access to 
the original QuickTime file or support RSS 2.0 with enclosures...  Oops.

Guess we missed the boat on that one.

Exploring
I'm still very excited about video on the web... New things I'm exploring are:

- Live streaming via cellphone with Qik and other platforms.
- Live broadcasting with Mogulus
- Video conversations with Seesmic
- HD video ( still wondering what camera to get )

I'm also still working on Citizen Journalism with Rocketboom and TheUptake...

Along with that I'm looking into how all these technologies can be adapted by 
TV...

So I think this is still a great place to talk about new technologies and new 
content...

I surely couldn't have shared the above in under 140 characters...

Meeting in Person
It's always fun to see other videobloggers at events like SXSW too...

I'll be at Podcamp Boston in July, New Media Expo August and Streaming Media 
West in 
September ...

in FCP.

I'd like to be able to drag and drop the footage on my Mac and start editing...

What else is out there that can do that with similar features?

I might be persuaded to consider the canon if there was a way I could do a

I'll try to test GL2 directly to MacBook Pro today.

External LaCie drives USED to work though.

At one point, using a card to add additional Firewire ports to the laptop

Hi Richard,

The Canon GL/2 is a great camera.  I've used it for a number of years.  The 3 
chip CCD 
makes all the difference and it's good in low light too.

I like the shape of the camera and how it handles with large controls.

Recently I've had a problem with the camera being recognized by FCP on a 
MacBook Pro.

I'm not using the most current FCP, so an upgrade mught help.

It used to work with no problem, but over time, software incompatability has 
been introduced.

The new iMovie 08 recognized hte GL2 and I can capture footage with that for 
now.

I really should drag the GL2 into an Apple store and try capturing footage in 
there.

I just open the .avi files in QuickTime and export as full DV, then bring into 
FCP to edit.  
Solves all the rendering and timeline issues.

What I meant was that on January 1, 2004 I decided to figure out how to put 
video on a 
blog and did it.  I was unaware of anyone else having ever tried to do it.  I'd 
never seen 
video on a blog. Adrian Miles was experimenting in 2003 and you'll see his

I was just talking about January 1, 2004 and earlier. Lots of people started

What I'm referring to was the fact that I personally was able to get FCP, a Mac 
laptop and 
GL/2 prior to 1/1/04, and have the technology in house and available to produce

I started that videopodcast blog to experiment in including video in RSS 2.0 
with media 
enclosures for distribution.  So that was in addition to the regular video blog 
I had.

A videoblog is video on a blog and a video podcast is video delivered over RSS 
2.0 with 
media enclosures.

At PodCamp Philly participants in my session produced, acted in, and  
shot a video, then edited it on the big screen with everyone watching  
and giving feedback as I edited.

It was fun.
