I agree with you. That is why I post some content to YouTube, hoping to draw
people to my site. And being 'visible' is a good thing. I am going to be
putting a clear logo throughout my videos from now on, so at least others
will see where it is from and hopefully visit me.

content. I suppose, some might get worked up over it, but my philosophy is
that if you can't beat them join them. The site itself is getting huge
traction, probably close to 25 million unique visitors each month by now.
One can ignore that audience or accept the spammy ads and the questionable
business model of the site but be able to at least control your submissions.
If you post your own content, other people won't be able to scrape it and
submit duplicates. In the long run it's probably better to build an audience
around the site, then to try in vain to stop them.

Re: [videoblogging] audio out of sync with video when using iSight and QT Pro

You might try 'exporting' the video from QT Pro, saving as a different name.
In the export function you have an option to save with DVCPro NTSC

This has saved the day for me recently when my audio was about 3 seconds

Anyone else seeing this issue? I'm thinking it may be caused by an

Vegas well, in fact, over half of the Las Vegas Strip is a client in
 one way or another.

My recommendation would be to stay at a hotel with direct monorail
access that is a decent property such as Ballys/Paris or MGM Grand.
Other options that are close by and nice are Treasure Island/TI and
Wynn Las Vegas provides a shuttle every 20 minutes from 8am to 8pm.
Getting a cab is challenging from the convention center - especially
at days end when everyone is heading out to dinner. A much nicer
option that is walkable is the Renaissance on the opposite side of the
convention center and the property is only about 3 or 4 years old so
the rooms are nice and new, however, again, getting a cab at this
property is challenging and I've had to wait upwards of 20 minutes to
get one on a busy night. A big plus to this hotel is no casino and no
smoking so its a lot calmer than most strip hotels.

I'll most likely be staying at Planet Hollywood since I'm a Starwood
Hotels member and they tend to upgrade their Gold and Platinum members
and the walk next door to Paris/Bally's isn't too bad to catch the
monorail to the convention center (10 min.).

 Hope this is helpful.

However it is only for a PC... MACs are left out. A while ago, I tried to

YT changed this recently?

The nudie video looked very good indeed. YouTube limits uploads to 100MB

work that way, been a while) so they are not limiting DATA RATE. The nudie

long which is quite long, but if you encode down to H264 at a pretty high
 quality BEFORE
uploading to YT I have heard you can get a lot more band for your 100MB
 buck.

Also, using a dedicated FLV encoder to do a 2-pass Variable Bit Rate
 encode will yield much
better quality than the generic YT upload default.

I've heard that you can actually upload a video in flash format and it
won't get transcoded. It'll maintain whatever quality in which it was
   uploaded.

xacti hd2 with a wide angle lense and simple shotgun mic setup. I
really prefer the hd2's 720p to 1080i. If I could send interlacing to
hell, I would do it in a second.

So I'm looking for a more beefy camera than the wee xacti to look a
little more impressive and get better color and sound.

Has to be 720p or 1080p.
Has to record to hard drive or cards. I hate tapes.
I'd like it to have 3 ccds but not essential.
Low light awesomeness would be nice.
Has to accept wide angle lens attachment.
Has to be decent at recording audio.

Anyone go to CES and see anything I should keep an eye out for?
Anyone have a favorite camera that they are loving right now?

try a different card reader. Or, try downloading the card from your
original source ( ie: if they are photos, put the card back into the
camera and connect the camera directly to the computer)

Hi. I need some serious help. I have a 4G SDHC card full of video files
I can't retrieve. When I put it in my card reader and put the card
reader in my USB, I am getting an error message that says the disk is
not formatted and do I want to re-format. I don't notice any damage to
the card. How can I retrieve the files? And info, insight most needed

[videoblogging] Rss confusion

2007-12-26 Thread sjs Productions
Hi All,
Just a quick novice question. I use Wordpress with the podcast
plugin. The plugin generates a RSS feed that I submitted to itunes.
Do I need to generate another RSS file by hand to submit to other
aggregators, or do I use this same url to submit everywhere?

Thanks
sjs

Jay,
Thanks for the response. And the article is great!
The more I think I know about all this, the more I know I don't know much.

  One feed will work everywhere.

what many of us do is that the feed you have now...and push it through
  Feedburner.com.
They will give you a human-readable RSS feed that you can advertise
and enter into iTunes et al.
If you ever need to change where your videos come from, you can go
into Feedburner, put in the new feed info, and your subscribers won't
need to resubscribe. That Feedburner URL will remain the same.

RSS can be confusing, so Rupert wrote a great explainer of RSS on this
list earlier this year that is archived on our fine wiki:

please shout out any specific questions.
and tell us your feed so we can check out your work.

Re: [videoblogging] best format to upload to youtube

thanks all for your responses. A great help

If your clip is very short you could try a strategy someone on Ken
Stone's site uses - compress to photojpeg at as high a quality as you
can while staying within the 100MB limit. Since photo jpeg doesn't
compress temporally, you only end up going one pass through a temporal
codec (whatever flavor of flash you tube is using). But this only
works for a VERY short clip.

Cutting your frame rate down to 15 should help too.

I notice there's now an option to upload pretty gigantic files to You
Tube using a program they offer for download, but it only runs on
windows. WIth that option you could theoretically do photo jpeg or dv
  for longer clips.

My best results so far on longer clips have been with h.264 even
though You Tube claims they don't support it. Occasionally they'll
reject an h.264 - it looks like these are usually close to but still
under the 100MB limit, but I don't have enough data to know for sure
  that's the trigger.

But it ends up in a low quality flash encode no matter what, so
anything with detail and motion is just going to look like crap on YT.
On the iphone, though, SOME of it looks pretty good - probaby because
those particular clips are h.264 from a relatively high quality
  original upload.

Re: [videoblogging] Re: What kind of Pro camera should I get?

2007-12-14 Thread sjs Productions
For a few more cents worth
I use a Sony Z1, which definitely has both good points and bad points.
I have used a panasonic P-2 which I found to be absolutely great in
good light, but goes to mud very quickly... I did not find it to be a
good low light camera.

I am watching the new Sony that is due out shortly. Both it and the
new Panasonic out soon supposedly will use a new GOP that is
intraframe rather than interframe compression. The new Sony will have
interchangable lenses as well as overcranking and undercranking and
multiple frame rates. Supposedly it will also be able to record in HD
on tape and to a SD card at the same time. Price point is to be around
8,000 OK here comes the disclaimer.I have not seen the camera-have
only 'heard' about it.
Just food for thought.

I am no expert, but what I crave is a bigger lens.
The smaller, consumer HD cameras look very very good.but for the
money, I think its the big wide lens that does it for me.
   Also, I want XLR adapters.

There's a lot of discussion about the tech specs of a whole bunch of
HD cameras, but how well suited are they to hand-held shooting?

It's a step down in quality from some of the cameras mentioned, but
I'd like to know more about the Sony HD1000 that rests on the
shoulder. Particularly with a Beachtek DXA Phantom power adapter for
XLR mics and a wide angle adapter (probably .70). Funny thing is that
they are touted as good for wedding and event videographers who want
to look pro but little is said about the look of their hand-held
shooting over the course of a day.

The price is right as the camera itself sells for $1,900 now.
