[videoblogging] Re: CSI Google Rocketboom Amanda Spooks Double Killer

2006-02-03 Thread Ms. Kitka
I'm don't answer for Andrew, but RB does have a CC licence that
restricts people from using the video if they make profit from it (I
have the same licence:
http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/2.5/). That said,
though, since this wasn't a regular episode of RB, I have no doubt
that they were paid for it. At the very least, they must have been
paid for the use of their logo and for Amanda's acting talents.

Did the producers of CSI have to pay to feature Rocketboom.
What i mean is if this had been an actual rocketboom episode, would
it have
been within fair use to use it in the CSI story ?

That is the default license. The creator of the work can license it
under any other license they choose to, to whoever they want.

So if I want to use RB content, and do so under a by-nc-sa license, I
don't even have to discuss it with them, they've already granted me (and
you) the rights. Alternately, if I want to pay them to use the same
content for commercial purposes, they can choose to do so under whatever
terms they like.

That's the idea...

I too missed it, I don't watch CSI. As far as historic well, I'm
guessing the fact that Amanda is actually an actress may have had
something to do with it all. I mean, it's not like they had Josh Leo on
 the show.

[videoblogging] Re: CSI Google Rocketboom Amanda Spooks Double Killer

2006-02-03 Thread Enric
I was invited by a friend to a preview of a movie, The Three Burials
of Melquiades Estrada, that overlapped with the airing of CSI. So I
recorded it and watched after midnight.

The story I think was good in the classical James M. Cain mystery
genre. A killer that is able to get away with his crimes, but gets
undone by his conscious. There was sufficient dialog and situations
for the actors to give dimension and interest to their characters.
But probably because of the constraints of time in TV and focus of the
direction (which emphasizes the shooting style, look, color schemes
and sets), it was somewhat flat and superficial.

 I did not watch it.

In the grand scheme of things in my life, videoblogging ranks well
below my husband's birthday, which was also yesterday. I spent last
night (a) trying to get through the mess that was Highway 9 because of
a stupid car accident (it was still snarled 1 1/2 hours after the
acciden), and (b) enjoying a nice steak dinner with my husband. And
 (c), but that's private. ;)

My apologies to Amanda and Andrew. I would have liked to have watched
 in support, but no.

In unrelated news, I launched his videoblog yesterday:

 Me too.

I find it weird, although not unexpected, that while many of us are
excited about videoblogging because it NOT television, and it's not
full of mainstream celebrity, and we hope it will be used to create
lots of new possibilities and opportunities for new voices to be heard,
especially voices and ideas that have been systematically excluded from
the corporate system... somehow many on this list seem enamored with
the same old same old. Personally, I'm not really celebrating these
Rocketboom milestones of getting affirmation from the mainstream media,
selling commercials, getting on tv dramas, etc.

Maybe all can co-exist without exclusion. Those that want to do TV
style drama, news and such, those that create personal vlogs for
family and friends, those that create experimental and art vlogs, et.
al. The Opera once was limited to aristocracy, but it now exists
minus the limitation.

Let's not forget that videoblogging can be about something completely
different than that. Let's celebrate other milestones too!

So congrats to Rocketboom for another success in accomplishing their
mission... let's the rest of us go out and define more of our own
models of success, debunking and going around what's come before.
