Re: [Videolib] PPR website

2012-02-01 Thread Jessica Rosner
I have been at this too long. I take PPR and Face to Face for granted
since they are the clearest parts of the copyright law that in the vast
majority of cases don't require much work to know if they apply. However
student groups were often totally ignorant and in more than a few cases
deliberately ignoring the law so I really appreciate attempts to educate
the little dears.

Not meant to be an exhaustive list. 16mm require PPR too.

What's more troublesome is that Copyright office has changed their
website, so that linking directly to the Section doesn't work anymore.

Anthony thanks for providing the info. I want to remind folks that if you
are looking for a film that used to be in print from a company that still
exists SOMEWHERE they have some contact info. It is possible is out of
date, but this by far the best way to get contact info and sometimes you
may need to be a bit pushy to get it. You probably have to be sweet if is
say major company you have never done business with but if it is somewhere
you have ordered from, politely insist they look up what they had in the
contract which most of the time is online in their data base.

Aloha all,

Our university is hosting a copyright compliance fair for students and faculty
next month. The library has chosen to focus on PPR: what it is and why you need
it and how to get it. We're looking to create a set of posters to display as
well as a handout that's not too technical.

Has anyone created handouts or posters they'd be willing to share so we don't
have to reinvent the wheel?

Thank you for your assistance.

Dear CW,

Just a quick note to see if anyone might have any information about
the availability of When Billy Broke His Head on DVD -- our heavily
used VHS is showing signs of wear (can't even make a preservation
copy thanks to the Macrovision) and Fanlight no longer distributes
it. If anyone knows of an alternate distributor or of any
forthcoming release plans, I'd be very interested to hear.

Thanks in advance,

[Videolib] Simplified handout for obtaining PPR?

2012-02-01 Thread Marynelle Chew

Good Morning,

We have a vhs tape in our collection titled "The Achievers" (1973) from
Southerby Productions. The tape has become worn, and since a faculty member
has expressed interest in continuing to use it, we are hoping to find a
replacement. So far, no luck. In fact, I was unable to find an entry in
WorldCat. I did locate a little blurb on Southerby Productions but all it lists
is Long Beach California. Does anyone have any contact info for them? I believe
Norm Southerby is/was the President.

Has anyone ever heard of this film? The subject is Psychology(Motivation)and
tells the story of ten young people who demonstrated dedication, hard work, and
goal setting to achieve success in their lives. If the film is not available,
got any suggestions for something else on this subject.

Thanks for your help with this.

Re: [Videolib] Help Locating an old film for replacement

2012-02-01 Thread Brewer, Michael
This is a perfect candidate for making a replacement using 108 or 107. If you
use 108, you'll need to make an analog copy for circulation (you could also
make a digital one to keep on site). If you choose to assert fair use, you
could make and circulate a digital copy (with restrictions - like only for in
class uses - if you feel that makes your case a better one). Doing this under
107 would carry some risk. Any fair use may be challenged in a court. I feel
like the risk here is minimal and there could be many ways to keep it low by
protecting the copyright holder's interests (like having a policy that you'd
replace it with a new copy, should that become available).

I await Jessica's response :)
