list recorder and recording
Hello, I am trying to record for a item in a list but the audio won't save. What I have: 1 item with just a title in a list. I press the record button for that item and I talk for about 8 seconds. Then I do a double tab to stop recording. When I press then the stop button, it seems there is no audio saved. When I press the record again , I can add before or after the audio new sound. It seems I can't reproduce it exactly but is it right that: audio is saved when I have interrupt the recording with stop or pause? so, can I leave a list when a record is pauzed and the sound is saved? Sorry for this unclear message but I hope someone can give me hints why audio shouldn't be saved in list recorder. have a nice day William Windels -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Re: Accessible apps for home theater receivers
Hi. The Yamaha app is not totally inaccessible. You can control the volume, choose your input channel and some other things I don't remember. I thought this app could replace the remote control, but it can't. And there are lots of features which is not accessible, but some features does work when you've got used to it. I think Sonos is the most accessible solution. I did go ahead and downloads the apps for the Onkyo, Denon, Yamaha and Pioneer network capable receivers, and each of them had a demo mode, so although I couldn't play with all of the functionality, it did give me a feel for their accessibility. I still need to play with them some more, but the Onkio and Denon apps seemed pretty accessible. The Yamaha app was either inaccessible or just too confusing for me to figure out and the Pioneer app didn't seem accessible at all. Unfortunately the follow-up model of my Sony STR-DA5400ES which at the time was $2,000 here in Canada, had a Bluetooth remote and an app as well, guess I should have waited a year. I would assume that most of the apps for such devices are free apps, so you can always download them and see what you can see and then just find a store where they are willing to let you connect to a demo receiver. An alternative is to decide on 2 or 3 possible receivers maybe from different manufacturers, find the apps and request information/feedback regarding Voiceover directly. Passwords
Hi Jenny, I'm starting to use 1password for iphone. It can do lots of good things for you, but best of all it has a secret notes section. To open 1password, you need a 4-digit unlock code. To further open the secure notes inside 1password, you need your 1password master key. So even if someone grabs your phone, they won't get to your secret notes. 1Password is not free, it's around 10 dollars as far as I remember. Hth, Paul. Re: Sirius xm
I didn't know that about the sports and online content, thank you for letting me know. The thing I don't like about the native app is that you have to kill voiceover to hit the categories button, and then bring it back. It's designed for the iPhone, though, so if the original poster wanted to use it on his iPad he would have to use the button for use fullscreen mode. There's an extensive post that I wrote back in September or October 2009 on using this app. You probably don't need it, but at the time we were all new to the iPhone or iPod Touch and there weren't facilities other than the user guide for learning about apps and how to navigate their interfaces. Like their dictionary app, the search box filters matches to entries as you type in letters for a country. so you don't have to flick through all the entries alphabetically. The only entries that you won't get full information on are the Flag, Map, and Google Maps options, because they use images. Phil wrote back to say that the Flag menu option gives a text description of the flag (which is true), so you can access that information if you flick to the text field. (It's actually displaying in landscape mode, but I think you can get the information if you hold your device in the normal portrait orientation and flick left a few times. To get out of the flag entry you have to navigate to the Down button and double tap twice.) The Map entry won't give you information, but you can easily get out of it by flicking to the back button and double tapping. Google Maps takes you out of the app to the Maps entry, so you'd have to use the App Switcher to get back if you used that. Well, it might be amusing to try to plan a route to a different country and hear that it will take 22 days to get there, but you're probably not going to use this feature. If you want a more detailed description of the layout of this app and the various ways to navigate the screen, go to the Google Groups page for this list and type in search terms like World Factbook Esther navigate (and make sure that Factbook is not corrected to Facebook). That should bring up the thread and the post. For recent posts I could use the Mail Archive search and give you a direct link, but for the earlier three years the only posts I can find easily that way are the ones that I cc'd to the macvisionaries list, and I only did that for a few posts. RE: Read2Go Alternatives.
I would like to point out to those who are planning to just convert Bookshare books to ePub rather than buying the Read2Go app, that they will save a ton of time by buying the app. It takes on average about 10 seconds to download most books into the app. Once you have an ePub file though, just open it in iTunes and you can then sync with your device. Re: Need help now if possible: Need to download ePub files from computer/windows-XP to iBooks/how?
Hello, I take it you normally sync with a different computer? In that case, either add them to iTunes on that computer, or if you have a Dropbox account, add them to Dropbox and then use the iPhone Dropbox to add them to iBooks. If they're on your usual computer, connect your iPHone, find its name in the iTunes source list, choose the Books tab, and choose to sync. This will not affect how you sync other material such as music or contacts. pdfs in ibooks
When listening to pdfs on ibooks, I can't figure out how to select which parts of the page I want to hear. All I seem to be able to do it hear the entire page from the beginning. Occasionally, I want to listen to certain sections again but it just starts the page over. Is there a way to do this or a better app for listening to pdfs? Additionally, is there a way to rename the files within the phone? Many times, the names given by the author are less than descriptive. If it is relevant, it is usually pdfs that I have found on the web and choose to open in ibooks so it is there for reference later. Re: Reading Bookshare books on your i Phone: was Re: Read2Go Alternatives.
In my experience the books convert better from the rtf file. No extra pages, spaces, etc. I find it a quick step and feel it is worth the extra time. That being said, I haven't done a conversion since I got Read 2 Go, so I could be wrong. However, you can try to convert directly from the XML file. Let us know how it works. BTW I think it should be noted that none of the Daisy navigation features will be retained after the book is made into the e pub format. You will be able to navigate using the iBooks tools. Re: listrecorder: how to make new notes without recording
Hi Richard, I think it was well over a year of using List Recorder before I turned the gestures back on. I felt like you. that is that the phone was doing unexpected things. Little by little I turned on one gesture at a time. I now especially like the wipe out gesture to quickly delete something and the tilt left back up gesture. I also often used the tilt left to stop play pack but now that the two finger tap does that I don't rely on it as much. A button on the home screen would be good for lots of functions but I'm not sure there is a lot of space for things. If something had to come off the bottom tool bar to fit a button like this I'm not sure that would help over all. In the meantime I played with it a bit and noticed that if you tap the edit button on the top right and then tap again without touching the screen the focus will be on the add item button and immediately open a new item. It is not as fast as a dedicated button but it is pretty quick. I'll add this request to my notes for a future version. You never know. There could be a good place for that button and I don't even know where. Also, Such a button would probably be more useful if it immediately landed you in the note taking field so you could start doing the note right away. Does that sound right? Currently it lands you on the record button. This is left over from the time that there was no quick record button on the tool bar. Updates to Amazon's Cloud Player app
Greetings. For those that use the Cloud Player app from Amazon, it has gotten some updates. If you launch the Cloud Player app, you are presented with an option to update your app to the new Cloud Player. In short, that will allow you to access past purchases from the Amazon MP3 store on your iOS device. This is excellent news, especially for those like me that have bought many full albums and single songs from various artists over the last few years. The app will walk you through the process of updating, and then once it is done, if you double tap the Artists button, you will again be presented with some buttons that you have to acknowledge. Once you do this, your music will start to appear on your iOS device. Even though I've got most of the music in the Music app, it is nice to have my prior purchases show up in the Cloud Player app as well. So be sure you grab the Amazon Cloud Player update in the app store. If you don't want to update for whatever reason, you will still be abel to access all of the usual parts of the app. Regards, Wayne Merritt -- Follow me on Twitter at: www.twitter.com/wcmerritt My websites: www.wayneism.com www.whitecaneday.org -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Re: list recorder and recording
To add to this, I have noticed that some times when making a recording, nothing is recorded with the I Phone 4, but I don't seem to have this problem with the I Phone 4 S. RE: Need help now if possible: Need to download ePub files from computer/windows-XP to iBooks/how?
Thank you so much. I am so proud of myself! I downloaded Drop Box on both computer and iPhone, learned how to use drop box, put the files in drop box and then exported the files in drop box on iPhone to iBooks! I am feeling quite techie right now. (smiles and chuckles) I do not have iTunes on my computer. It never worked. I could never get to the pages everyone talked about, and it seemed to do nasties to my old computer. So, I have been doing everything from iPhone, and since I do not listen to music but do have a lot of apps, I needed a way to transfer things directly to my phone. Drop Box worked. RE: listrecorder: how to make new notes without recording
Hi, This is one of those features that once you get it, you'll love it. 1. Double tap on List Commands. 2. Double tap on Insert. 3. Double tap on insert empty list. Now you have a new list with a default title that is pretty useless, so double tap on the list title and delete what is there and put in what you want and double tap on the OK button. If you then want a sublist inside that list, double tap on that list and you will be inside it, where you could repeat the above steps to add a list within that list. Or, as Eric pointed out, if you want to just add an item under that list without audio, double tap on Edit and then double tap again and you will have a new item without audio. Or, double tap on the Record button if you want an audio item. Eric, if you are reading this, it would be great to have a blank title when inserting an Empty list. Even better would be that you would already be in the edit field in edit mode so you could type in the title of your new list. RE: listrecorder: how to make new notes without recording
Eric, Well, I think there is plenty of room for another button along the top. If you look at apps like MLB At Bat, there are several buttons along the top. Or, even Read2Go for that matter. But, double tapping on Edit and since focus is put right on the add item button, double tapping again works fine. I do find the idea of either being put into the text field or into the title field very appealing. I don't like generic titles being filled in, I'd rather they were blank. Oh thank you so much. I think I figured out what I was missing, but I was sure baffled the way I was doing it!
