2012-09-04 Thread Kim

Hi,

I haven't used this app in awhile and now when I do I notice the
search features are not accessible. Anyone else notice this or
is it just me? I can put the name of a bird in the search field
but the advanced search feature where you can say the habitat,
size, color, song, etc no longer works for me.

Just wanted to check in before contacting the developer in case
I'm missing something.

RE: Muxic is an App Worth Checking Out

Yes, iFarkle is much more sluggish when I listen to music with the Muxic
app. This does not happen when using the native Music app.

I've noticed on my iPhone4 that when Muxic is open, Voiceover is a little
slower to respond and other things are slower to happen, both in and out of
the muxic app. Perhaps this is because my 32 GB iPhone is nearly full of
music and Audible books, but I still find it interesting that Muxic is
slowing things down, but when I close it out of the app switcher, the
processes return to their normal speed.
Anyone else seeing this on an iPhone4 running iOS 5.1.1?

RE: Recording a Facetime Call

2012-09-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Len,

I don't think you can record either video, audio or both from a Facetime
call. The same goes for recording actual phone conversations, I believe
there may be Jailbreak apps to do this, but not anything in Apple's official
app store. Sabrina's suggestion to use Voice memos will not do anything, in
fact, you can't use any audio recording apps it during a call. I guess your
only option would be to use the speakerphone for your Facetime call and
record the conversation with another device.

In the next week or so I am doing a consult via Facetime. Does any one know
a convenient means for recording the audio from Facetime? The video is not

digit-eyes, identifying unknown labels?

Hi all, I've got a client who just bought digit-eyes. We scanned a bar code
and it identified the thing as a UPC code generally used for inventory, or some
such thing. We wanted to input what that thing actually is that is attached to
the bar code. All it gave us though was an OK button and then it disappeared.
I got a device here to see if I could make it work, but some one has gone and
changed the accessibility settings for vision and confounded me.

Appreciate any help.

Jambox and the Biggr Jawbone have similar functionality. Layout of the keys
is slightly different. The list price of the Biggr is $100 more at $299.

As to which one you want, it depends where you are going to play it, the
larger one will play louder and with more bass. But, the smaller one can be
hung around your neck for a personal sound-playing device; the big one is a

Re: converting files to ePub for reading on iDevices?

2012-09-04 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi, the term batch, means doing the same thing to more than one file.
So, for example if you have an audio album of wma files and you want to
convert them to mp3, you could convert each file at a time, but that
would be time-consuming, especially if you are doing the same thing to
all 15 songs. So, a program which supports batch conversion, means you
can tell it a folder location and have it apply the same action to
everything in that folder. The end result is that something is done to
each file, not just 1. And that saves on a lot of time. Goldwave is a
very good audio editor in Windows which has batch conversion, and even
if you just use the free version, it's good enough.

Cheers.

Batch conversion is just when you load up a whole bunch of files to be
converted and they all get converted for you without you having to
intervene at all after you've gotten everything started.

Managing photos on iPhone with Mac

2012-09-04 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
Hi all,

I am posting this to both Mac and iPhone lists since, in a way, it concerns
both of them.

I sinked photos from iPHone to mac iPhoto and told it to delete photos after
importing. I might have not done this at previous imports.
Then I added specific events to my iPhone with iTunes.
I still see the camera role with many pictures and would like to delete them or
the whole album all together. Is this possible? Or is camera role a generic
album containing all pictures on my phone?

Also, I renamed a movie in iPhoto and when it synced to the phone it still
shows up as img000 , etc.

What am I missing here?

Sorry if this has been asked before!

Thanks,

Ioana

following a link in a direct message on the iphone

2012-09-04 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hello all,

Someone sent me a link in a direct message on Twitter today, and I wasn't able
to follow the link with either Echofon or Tweetlist. Normally I love how
Tweetlist handles links - you double-tap the message, then double-tap Link,
then choose Follow, Copy, etc. But when I double-tapped the direct message, I
got a list of all the DMs between me and that person, and no Link option. The
same thing happened with Echofon. Does anyone know of a way to do this?

Thanks,
Anna

Hi Don, actually, there may well be a way to do this depending upon

Lifehacker summarizes things nicely. If you're not in the U.S. but use
a GSM carrier, try the instructions for AT&T. It involves typing in a
code to change the call forward if not answered settings, which is how
voicemail is often controlled on GSM carriers. If it messes things up
and doesn't allow people to leave messages anymore, you should be able
to deactivate the custom forwarding you set up by dialing #61#. At
that point, your voicemail should begin working again. Here's the

Re: Linking IPhone To Cordless Phone

A lot of that depends on the speed of your internet connection and, yes, the
Magic Jack connection has improved. Rarely, I will get a connection that
sounds choppy, but hanging up and redialing usually fixes this. Compared to
talking just over the cellular connection on the iPhone, I think it souns
wonderful, and I've never had problems dialing in account numbers using the
keypad on the regular cordless phone.

RE: Linking IPhone To Cordless Phone

2012-09-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Tara,

Well that is good to hear, maybe I have to give it another try although I
have no complaints about Skype and you of course have the option for video
calls which come in handy at times when I want to identify something and of
course down the road there will be a lot more Skype integration with Outlook
and Windows. I always heard that Magic Jack worked better for US calls.
Anyhow, most of my calls are within Canada and I have unlimited long
distance and airtime so there is no reason why I should use Voip for that.

Have a good day,

Hi Sieghard.

I use Magic Jack with my computer, but mostly on my iPhone. I have been
fortunate enough that it works for me. They came up with Magic jack plus, it
hardly worked for me. I mostly use Magic Jack on my iPhone. It works very
well, what works even better for VOIP calls is skype.

Hi Stuart,

I did a quick search on www.applevis.com for "texting apps" and found "Text
Free Unlimited", the link to the full description/review on Applevis is
below:

There are many other apps out there, quite a few are free so you can just
try them. Applevis is a great resource and if you haven't checked it out I
highly recommend that you spend some time on the site and browse through the
various categories of apps, there are literally hundreds of reviews.

Re: Linking IPhone To Cordless Phone

2012-09-04 Thread Tara Prakash

Hi Sieghard.

I use Magic Jack with my computer, but mostly on my iPhone. I have been
fortunate enough that it works for me. They came up with Magic jack plus, it
hardly worked for me. I mostly use Magic Jack on my iPhone. It works very
well, what works even better for VOIP calls is skype.

Hi Kim,

Wow, a Magic Jack is better than an iPhone in quality? I used to have one
and found it was horrible. Maybe they improved it a lot, but at the time I
couldn't even dial numbers like for inputting an account number and when I
bought some international minutes and tried to make a call to a friend in
Germany he couldn't hear me at all. I called him back on Skype and it was
like he was sitting in my head. Everytime I want to make a longer call I
use

the headset that comes with the iPhone and find the call quality is very
good at least 9 out of 10 calls, sometimes it's not, but it's so rare that
it's not an issue just as sometimes on Skype the quality is not so good,
but

most of the time its excellent.

I really do not love talking on a cell phone due to the sound quality.
For
this reason, I have a Magic Jack, which has its own set of quirks, but
works

well most of the time. For the price of less than $2 a month, who can
argue, especially since now you don't even have to have it plugged into a
computer, just the router. I love my iPhone, but don't love having long
phone conversations on it. I do appreciate the thread on this subject, as
I
had wondered about these cordless phones that double as bluetooth
handsets.

That would be like talking on a Bluetooth headset and using the iPhone

using up airtime, the cordless phone is nothing but a Bluetooth
handset in this case. It's like those cordless phones you can get

As for your question, Tara, in my opinion there is no real advantage
in such phones except that you can leave your iPhone lying around or
plug it in and still walk around while you make a call or answer a
call. I'd rather keep my iPhone in my pocket or on my belt, that way I
can answer a call just the same, I can use SIRI to make a call,
quickly set a timer when I'm in the kitchen or immediately get an
incoming text message. Maybe Shelley can answer this, but I doubt you

in mind with so many wireless devices nowadays is that the more you
have the greater the chance for the various signals to interfere with

RE: Can't upgrade listrecorder

2012-09-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Guenni,

When you say "upgrade" I assume you mean you bought the initial $0.99
version and now want to do the in-app upgrade for $7.99 for the full
version? I can't remember exactly what this is called, but once you go to
tap on "Get Help" and "Upgrade Info" it should say something like you are
running the light version, in my case it says "You are running the full
version of List Recorder, thank you for upgrading". Somewhere there should
be a link to buy the full version and I believe after you tap it you should
find a "$7.99 Buy" button or something like that just as you normally have
when you buy an app in the app store. Tap on that, you will be asked for
your Apple Id and password and then the full functionality should be
unlocked. I know in the beginning when the app cam eout you sometimes had to
try several times before it worked, not sure if this is fixed, but if you
continue to have problems I'd just contact their support.

RE: Linking IPhone To Cordless Phone

2012-09-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Linda,

I understand why you'd want to get the best clarity you can, but I somehow
think that any Bluetooth connection only degrades the quality further. I may
be wrong, but this has certainly be my experience with any Bluetooth headset
I have versus a wired headset. After all, the signal coming from the iPhone
is what it is and if you have a cordless phone connected via Bluetooth it
simply reproduces what it receives and it would be logical to assume that
the best case would be that it would reproduce the signal perfectly which
means you would get the same quality, any losses and it would be worse.

Hi Sieghard,

I was thinking about trying linking my cell to a cordless for several
reasons. When looking at cordless phones in general, I saw the Panasonic
has some very good clarity of speech improvements. I am hearing impaired
and even with my hearing aids have a difficult time with speech recognition
on my Iphone 4s.

Take care,

If the sound was very good, I might have considered getting rid of our house

Subject: RE: Linking IPhone To Cordless Phone

Hi Linda and Andy,

I don't own such a cordless phone and haven't used one. However, I also have
looked at such cordless phones and as far as I am concerned it is a bit of a
gadget which to me doesn't make a whole lot of sense. I can just as easily
answer my iPhone instead of a cordless phone. I guess one argument might be
that maybe you have your iPhone plugged in and with such a cordless phone
you could still answer your iPhone. However, as Andy pointed out, the
connection between the cordless phone and the iPhone is just Bluetooth and
no different from using any Bluetooth headset which allows you to answer
your phone or, for that matter, the Jambox will let you do so except you
only have speakerphone. I have used Bluetooth headsets and very good ones
like the Jambox ERA which is considered to be one of the best single-ear
headsets for answering calls. The fact is that even with a very good
Bluetooth headset you will not get the same voice quality as you would with
a wired headset. Now consider that the Jawbone ERA is $129.99 and many of
these cordless phones are in that same price range, often even cheaper,
sometimes maybe a bit more. I then wonder what would give me better sound
quality, a dedicated Bluetooth headset made by a company that specializes in
that or a cordless phone which even without the mobile phone connection
feature costs already half as much as the dedicated headset. In my opinion
the sound quality on such a device can only be worse than on a good
Bluetooth headset. Lastly, the connection is also subject to the limitations
of range associated with Bluetooth. Not a big deal if you have an apartment
or smaller house, but in a larger home or one where you have multiple floors
it may not be the best.

Keep in mind that this is my own reasoning and opinion on this and maybe I
am totally wrong and some of the cordless phones that connect to your cell
phone via Bluetooth are actually fantastic. I would recommend that you find
the model you want to buy and then either look it up on Amazon where you can
usually find lots of reviews or google it and look for reviews. If you
decide to buy such a phone I look forward to your review on the list.

Sieghard

RE: Linking IPhone To Cordless Phone

2012-09-04 Thread Lynda Ingraham
Hi Sieghard,

I was thinking about trying linking my cell to a cordless for several
reasons. When looking at cordless phones in general, I saw the Panasonic
has some very good clarity of speech improvements. I am hearing impaired
and even with my hearing aids have a difficult time with speech recognition
on my Iphone 4s.

Take care,

Lynda

If the sound was very good, I might have considered getting rid of our house
phone.

Regards,
Sieghard

RE: Linking IPhone To Cordless Phone

2012-09-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Everytime I want to make a longer call I use
the headset that comes with the iPhone and find the call quality is very
good at least 9 out of 10 calls, sometimes it's not, but it's so rare that
it's not an issue just as sometimes on Skype the quality is not so good, but
most of the time its excellent.

Sieghard

I really do not love talking on a cell phone due to the sound quality. For
this reason, I have a Magic Jack, which has its own set of quirks, but works
well most of the time. For the price of less than $2 a month, who can
argue, especially since now you don't even have to have it plugged into a
computer, just the router. I love my iPhone, but don't love having long
phone conversations on it. I do appreciate the thread on this subject, as I
had wondered about these cordless phones that double as bluetooth handsets.

Re: Jawbone Jambox

2012-09-04 Thread Kimberly thurman
My suggestion would be for you to go to amazon.com and read all about them. I
just ordered the smaller one, so I don't have much to say on the matter yet.
They are bluetooth speakers that work well with the I devices and as speakers
for laptops that are equipped with bluetooth. The smaller one is anywhere from
$165 to $199 depending on which color you choose, and the bigger one is about
$100 more.

 Hi all,
I have two face book apps I use face book 5 and facely hd. I've noticed
that with face book 5 only shows like 10 statuses and once I get to the
end of the list there is an error. With facely hd it shows more statuses.
Anyone else having this same issue?

Hi Anonymouse,

No, I hadn't tried that one until now and its not bad, but I still prefer
Stereophonic over this one. You can customize the sound a bit more and save
your presets, so you can have one to suit the sound signature of each pair
of headphones.

I did buy Muxic though and think it's a great app, I will now use this one

I take it this app doesn't let you manually adjust equaliser settings? If
not, I think I will stick to stereophonic.

Yes, turn off blue tooth, then reboot your phone either by holding down the
home and power buttons for 10 or 15 seconds or the quick way is to tap the
power button six times very quickly.
Then, make sure the keyboard is on and turn blue tooth back on in settings.
Then, you should be offered a chance to pair the keyboard again.

Also, make sure the keyboard isn't paired to any other device when doing
this.

I recently had to have my iPhone replaced. When I had my old one, I easily
paired it with my Apple Wireless Keyboard. As I recall, it was just a
matter of making sure blue tooth was on in settings and that the keyboard
was also on. The phone saw that the keyboard was there, I double tapped on
the icon, and it gave me a code that I typed into the keyboard. That was
it. Now, however, my phone sees the keyboard, but when I double tap on the
icon, I don't get the code and it times out. Swiping doesn't reveal any
hidden codes anywhere else on the screen. I have tried shutting down and
restarting my iPhone 4s to no avail. I have also changed the batteries in
the keyboard with the same results. Is there anything else I can try?

Re: Wifi issues continue

Mari,

I'm wondering about that too, as my iPod Touch 4G does the same thing. It'll
stream a whole day of a cricket test, which is upwards of seven hours; then,
however, it won't allow me to add birthdays to My Calendar Mobile through
Facebook. It's bloody annoying at times. I'm in a somewhat large house (2300
square feet), and I'm across the house from the router. It's the same type of
router. I'm thinking of purchasing a signal booster from Walmart or BestBuy or
somewhere. Hopefully that'll solve this. I'm getting a iPhone in February, Lord

Re: Muxic is an App Worth Checking Out

2012-09-04 Thread Wayne Merritt
I've noticed on my iPhone4 that when Muxic is open, Voiceover is a
little slower to respond and other things are slower to happen, both
in and out of the muxic app. Perhaps this is because my 32 GB iPhone
is nearly full of music and Audible books, but I still find it
interesting that Muxic is slowing things down, but when I close it out
of the app switcher, the processes return to their normal speed.
Anyone else seeing this on an iPhone4 running iOS 5.1.1?

Wayne Merritt

Fred,

I do know exactly what you're talking about. You're talking about playlist
folders.

Here's the deal: I DID figure out how to solve this problem.
Unfortunately, the only solution is an undocumented API, which Apple is
always reticent to let through. Hopefully their docs will change soon, and
I'll be able to submit a fix that will have the proper playlist hierarchy
intact.

Ootunes VS TuneIn Pro?

2012-09-04 Thread Miranda B.
Hi,

As some of you may have seen, I posted a message last night regarding
problems I'm having adding Windows Media streams to Ootunes.

I'm wondering what the differences are between Ootunes and TuneIn pro? Which
do you prefer and why? Which do you find is easier to navigate and why?

I currently have Ootunes and the free version of TuneIn installed on my
iPhone 3GS.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, and have a great week!

Ootunes and Windows Media player playlist

2012-09-04 Thread Miranda B.
Hi,

I have a couple Windows Media player playlists that I'd like to put in to
Ootunes, as the currently available streams I've found for these stations
are broken. I attempted to use the "help and feedback" feature to submit the
connection issues to Ootunes, but when I hit the link for the specific
connection problem the app does nothing.

When I email myself the link for the desired station to add, I can copy it
to the iPhone clipboard, but I can't paste it into the Ootunes built-in web
browser's address bar.

I looked in the help (which could have better navigation in my opinion) and
tried multiple times to figure out the exact string to use when replacing
http:// for a Windows Media stream. I tried: ootunes:// as I thought it said
to do when typing the URL in by hand, and it failed multiple times.

I was able to go to the station's home page and click the "listen live" link
and open it in the Ootunes browser, but I couldn't then mark it as a
favorite.

I like the Ootunes interface in regards to moving through my favorites. I
was able to add the stream to TuneIn, but I feel the favorite navigation is
very sluggish if you have many favorites.

Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated! I do not have TuneIn
Pro, so I wonder if that's why my navigation in favorites is sluggish?

Thanks for any help, and have a great week!

Hi all. In loading ringtones I go to itunes select tones and sync my i
phone. I did check select all tones. Problem is after I sync my i phone
all of the tones do not show up in settings so that I can make the
appropriate changes. Any ideas as to how I can get all of my ringtones on?
Thanks.

Re: Ipod VS Ipad, which one is better?

2012-09-04 Thread Bonnie Snyder
Hi Maria,

In order to fully answer your question, I would need a bit more information:
Basically, does this person have enough useable vision to benefit from the
full screen of an iPad? Once I know that I should be able to help your
friend make her decision.
Also, the person who told her that the iPad did not have VoiceOver didn't
know what he/she is talking about. All of the i devices have VoiceOver.

the weather radio app cost but does alert in a warning and you can choose
whether you want warnings, watches and so on with hurricanes, tornadoes,
thunderstorms, severe storms, fire and so on.

the NOA email link I sent for the web emails hurricane info for Atlantic or
pacific.
you choose and set it up.
you end up with lots of emails in hurricane season but worth it when its
heading your way or toward loved ones.

the
emergency email alert emails are also free and great for your local area
alert by zip code.

Re: Linking IPhone To Cordless Phone

2012-09-04 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi, for physical comfort I use the retro handset. It's shaped like the
older style telephones from the 80s and even has a curly cord. You
simply connect it to your phone and talk. It has buttons on the inside
for volume and for flash to pick up an incoming call. I don't know if
they make the Bluetooth ones, but this one which is corded can be
purchased from Amazon, or locally from Walgreens, or Target.

Re: Muxic app help

2012-09-04 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hello Tom, I'd recommend contacting the developer to let them know. I'm
experiencing similar issues with my iPhone 4S. Sometimes it works well,
but many times it also crashes.

Hi listers,

It happened when I tried to play a song, played a second, then crashed. I
also had the issue when I was listening to songs, and at about the 10th song
or so, it just crashed and closed.

Any help would be appreciated,

Re: Linking IPhone To Cordless Phone

2012-09-04 Thread Shelley Corcoran
It's just physically more comfortable to talk on my cordless. No, you can't
use your cell to make another call while on the cordless. But I was hoping
to at least get back to my home screen to do other things. So basicly, all
you're doing is using your cordless phone as a cell without getting sucked
into the expense of a home connect.
