grouping bookmarks in safari

2012-12-01 Thread Jodie Hoger
Hi List,
I have heaps of bookmarks and items in my reading list and I am wondering if I
can group similar sites like shopping sites, technology sites etc into folders
like I can with my favourites on IE. Is this possible?
Thanks,
Jo

  Hi,

I can't get my iPhone to display the correct time of events from a calendar
that I am subscribed to. They show up correctly on my Mac but not on my iPhone
4 running the latest iOS. Any ideas? They are one hour off.

  Thanks

Re: storeing music in the cloud

2012-12-01 Thread Candy

Grant, I appreciate your help. I know that I don't have more than the ITunes
match would allow. How accessible is it with jaws and system access, and how
do I go about uploading my music? I have my music in folders on my computer,
and I don't have a clue as how to get them into the iTunes library.

Re: storeing music in the cloud

2012-12-01 Thread Grant Hardy
How many songs are in your collection? If it's under 25,000, iTunes
Match will let you store them in the cloud no matter where you bought
them. There's a limit of 25,000 songs not purchased from iTunes that
you can have.

Dropbox would work fine but you'd have to pay for all that cloud
storage, which could be rather expensive. iTunes Match is just one low
$25 per year. With Dropbox you'd have to pay per gigabyte, and you may
well have 100+ GBs of music. Also with iTunes Match, you have the
flexibility to decide which songs you want to keep on your devices and
which you'd like to have exclusively in the cloud.

Re: Locked Screen Too Short

2012-12-01 Thread Cheryl Homiak
I've actually come to appreciate this. If my phone accidentally gets to the
unlock screen by me bumping it or doing something I didn't intend, I don't have
to stop and lock it because I know that if I don't do anything it will soon
lock again. I do exactly what you describe; I listen and from what I hear only
deal with it if I think it's urgent. At first i didn't like the shortened time
and if you are new especially I think it could be aggravating but I've becomed
accustomed to it.

I have thousands and thousands of songs on my computer and on an external

Or, are you asking these questions when the screen is locked? Then, it is

Radio is still there, but for some strange reason, it's in the Music
section. When you choose Music in what they're calling the sidebar, there
are several radio buttons for things like album and artist. One is radio.
When you choose it, the normal list of categories appears, and you expand it
just as you did before.

Best,
Anna

RSS readers that sync with the PC?

2012-12-01 Thread Grant Hardy
Can anyone recommend a good setup that will allow me to read RSS feeds
on my iPhone and synchronize my subscriptions to a PC so I don't have
to see the same articles twice?

I tried Feeddler Pro and FeedDemon but found that I cannot use
FeedDemon reliably here with JAWS 14 and Windows 8. It does not appear
to be accessible under Windows 8, but I am open to a prod in the right
direction if I'm missing something.

SIRI Problem.

2012-12-01 Thread Jim Noseworthy
Hi Gang:

I am running an iPhone 5 with the latest IOS update. When I ask SIRI for such
things as a weather report, the screen locks in the middle of her answer; thus,
causing me to lose most of the answer.

Question: how do I prevent the screen from locking?

Thanks all over the place gang.

Re: Apps to help manage diabetes

2012-12-01 Thread Brett
Hi Eric,
Are you referring to the combo box? If so, double tap and hold and then slide
up to find the right option you will hear clicks each time the combo box
changes. Once you get used to it it's quite easy.

Re: Apps to help manage diabetes

2012-12-01 Thread Eric
I use this app, too. The only difficulty I have had with it is selecting the
period. I find that I have to save all other information, look at the log, open
the last entry, and then select my period and save again. It sounds more
difficult than it is but it does require an extra step.

If anyone has a fix for this, it would be appreciated

Re: iCloud question

2012-12-01 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

Some apps let you specify what info gets backed up. I know Downcast does this.
You can also go to Settings/iCloud/Storage & Backup/Manage Storage and find out
what, precisely, is getting backed up. If you ever had another device attached
to your account, for instance, you might find out here that it's still taking
up space. Or you might find out that some huge file is being backed up that you
don't want to be. IN that case, you could move it out of iCloud if it's on your
computer and you don't need it to be backed up. At one time, for example, a
huge video podcast was taking up more space than I had. I deleted it once I was
done with it, and I had enough space again.

You can also buy more storage if necessary from the Storage & backup screen.

HTH,
Anna

Isn't there a free limit of 2GB or 5GB? What happens if you try backing up more

Oddly, I just tried this; it failed, I reckon the app data was a tad too
big. Just ifnished shovelling tonso f music and the odd film sound trakc.
so how can we isolate what we need, or don't need backing up; it seems to
bundle it all together.

Re: redeemed gift card

Well, two things; and I'm on iOs 6 and a bit now on the Mini and things
look different. But your balance should either show at the end of your
apple id at the bottom of the featured section of appstore for example, or
I had to tap redeem on the Mini and it showed me my balance there.

So glad it all worked in the end!

Re: Sharing Calendar & Appointment Info

2012-12-01 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hello,

do you sync your iPHone with iCloud? If not, set up an iCloud account and sync
your calendar with it. Then you'll have Home and Work iCloud calendars in
addition to the On the Phone ones. You'll have the sharing options in the
iCloud calendars. Your other family members can each use their own iCloud
accounts if they have their own devices, or they can use the same Apple ID as
you and see all your iCloud calendars. The advantage of having separate iCloud
accounts is that you can share the calendar or calendars you want to share, but
have separate ones as well. And remember, you can share an Apple ID for
purchases but all have different iCloud accounts.

Best,
Anna

Got an iTunes gift certificate. It says I can only redeem in iTunes store.
Thank goodness it is only 20 dollars, which if I have to I can use in
iTunes. However, can it be redeemed in app store too? He sent the number,
but we are trying to get the right store. Apple told me when I had them
refund his money that it was an iTune card I needed. What do I do with the
letters and numbers, and how do I keep it from being charged to the card I
have on Apple?

As a point of interest, will it charge against your voucher credit first and

iTunes stores equals that, plus the app store, iBooks store, and mac app
store, either of those 4. Once you redeem it, it will just appear as money
you can use attached to your account. It won't mess with the card you
already have on file.

2012-12-01 Thread Rob Harris
AppStore/featured/ right to the end where it says - terms and conditions,
above that should be your apple id, and above that is the redeem button.
YOu type the number in there and click redeem. I was sure that itunes store
and appstore were essentially one and the same. I took my card off and only
use these now.

I hope this works this time, or you chase Apple and kick their butt if they
stand still long enough. They don't ahve to make such a molehill out of
this.

I know I can't use iCloud with sl but I will be getting an iPad mini for

RE: iTunes 11 is out

2012-12-01 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Marc,

Can you please summarize the few tweaks you're referring to, so I can make sure
to get these taken care of right away after upgrading to iTunes 11?

Thanks in advance. Keith

While I agree in thinking people will begin to base more and more of
their laptop/desktop purchases to compliment their smart phone needs*,
I think it's a bit premature to say that apple won't continue to take
accessibility into consideration for iTunes on the PC.

With a few tweaks, the new version of iTunes works just as well,
almost exactly as well in fact, as the previous versions of the
software did on Windows. It's easy to bring back the side and menu
bars and the only thing broken is the labelling of the File, View,
Control, etc... menu titles -- the menus themselves still work. Once
you learn the new layout and make the necessary tweaks, the program is
hardly inaccessible -- this small thing is not a dealbreaker and using
it as proof that apple will abandon PC accessibility is a bit
ridiculous, imo.

Now if you had used the iCloud manager and website as an example when
they were released, that'd be another story. :P

* I am actually switching to a mac mini because I am strongly
contemplating the purchase of an iPad mini and will be upgrading to
the next iPhone when my contract is up in August.

iTunes stores equals that, plus the app store, iBooks store, and mac app
store, either of those 4. Once you redeem it, it will just appear as money
you can use attached to your account. It won't mess with the card you
already have on file.

Digit-Eyes is the best.
You can get by with things like Red Laser, Consmr, and even oMoby, but if
you want something that was designed with the visually impaired in mind and
that includes more information on some things than even the latest database
from Envision America on the ID Mate Omni, then spend the $20.00 or so for
Digit-Eyes.

Just my opinion.

Re: Removing Cards From Original IPad

2012-12-01 Thread Kevin Barry

If it's a cellular model it has a sim card.
There are no other cards.
You would be wise to reset it before you divest yourself of it.
Settings, reset, reset all settings.
Wipes everything out.
Memory card in an IOS device?
Not likely.

It appears to be one of those days with technology.

RE: Help with wordZINGA, please

2012-12-01 Thread Tamara Rorie, Esq.
Hi:
When you start the game the first screen presents several options one of
which is play. Once you choose play, you can choose to start a new game or
continue one that has already started. If you choose to play one that is
already in progress, then you click on the score and the game is brought up.
Either way, once a game is presented, you are presented with the following:
Note, that you can swipe from left to right or that you can move your finger
down to find these.
First, is the word "score" and the number, next is "108th badge" (I've yet
to figure out what that means), Next is the help button, then the words
"word bonus and the actual number of points that you will get if you do not
use any help. After that is the word "streak" and the number of words that
you have solved without using any help. Immediately after that is the word
that is to be solved. After that is the "word possibility and the number of
available words that fit the puzzle. Then the word "hints" and the number
of available hints that you can get for this word. Below that is a grid
with the alphabet. Note, that instead of a standard keyboard, you are given
the letters in four rows in alphabetical order. This makes it harder at
first, but you get use to it quickly. On the very bottom row is a "word
zinga" button (slightly to the left of the home button, and a "clear" button
to the right of the home button.
Now for playing: The puzzle is a word in which you are given a few (usually
2 or three but in advanced puzzles sometimes as many as five) letters. The
given letters cannot be moved. You have to come up with one word that has
letters in all of the blanks and uses the letters in the position where they
have been placed. When you think of a word that will fit you type it using
the keyboard and leaving out the letters that already are in place. Once
you put in the word you tap the "word zinga" button. If the word works, you
get a chime, if not, you get a crunch sound. To get rid of the bad word and
try again, press the clear button. You can get rid of one letter at a time
by pressing the letter. So, for example, if you put in a word and
accidentally type the wrong letter or want to change only one letter, go to
that spot in the puzzle and double tap. The blank will reappear and the
letter that you type from the keyboard will go into that spot.
A couple of other things: If you can't figure out a word, you can use help.
You can ask it to reveal one of the words that are a possibility. However,
by doing this you start over with bonus points. The number that is added to
your score represents the bonus points. So, for example, currently, in one
of my puzzles I have 1350 bonus points. When I solve the next word, that
amount will be added to my score if I do not use any hints. The number of
points that you get for a word continues to grow until you use the help
again. Also, when you first start a game, you have only 5 opportunities to
use help. This also grows as you play and don't use it. The maximum times
that you can use help in a word appears to be 10. Finally, the game gets
harder as you continue. So, at first you are filling in four letter words
and eventually you get to ten letter words. Each time the game is
increasing in difficulty, you go to a new level. This is also indicated on
the screen and by a tone. I thought that there were only ten levels but I'm
in level sixteen of my current puzzle so I have no clue how many there are
for each puzzle. That should get you started.

Good Luck,

Tamara

Re: iTunes 11 is out

2012-12-01 Thread Christopher Chaltain
This is just my own conjecture, but I'm not surprised Marco is thinking
of getting a Mac to enhance his mobile computing experience. I think
we'll see more and more of this in the future. For those people who
mostly consume content, they'll think of a smart phone or a tablet first
and then if they want to add a lapttop or a desktop to the mix, they'll
base their decision in part on what will work best with their smart
phone / tablet they've chosen to use.

I'm also not as convinced Apple will continue to care about iTunes
accessibility on the PC. Again, this is just my conjecture, but I don't'
think this is a priority for Apple now. I would be surprised if they
didn't focus first on iTunes accessibility with VoiceOver on the Mac. As
the Mac becomes more and more popular, I think Apple will continue to
lower the priority of iTunes on Windows in general and on it's
accessibility under Windows in particular. Also, with more and more
functionality showing up in the Cloud, there's less and less need to use
iTunes under Windows. The lack of iTunes accessibility under Windows
won't be a reason for people to not get an iPhone, and Apple's answer to
the people who want or need to use iTunes may just be, OK, great, go
ahead and get a Mac.

I do see companies like GW Micro and Freedom Scientific doing everything
they can do to keep iTunes accessible under Windows I don't see MS doing
much though since they compete with Apple across the board.

RE: iTunes 11 Shortcut Keys

Bill,

I assume you mean you down arrowed to the "Keyboard Shortcuts" item in the
Help menu? If so try F6 after you press enter on "Keyboard Shortcuts". I
can't speak for Jaws 10 as I am on Jaws 14, but after I go to Keyboard
Shortcuts I get the following:

iTunes store

Description: printiFrame

After I press F6 I am on an HTML page and I can use the down arrow keys and
all other Jaws reading keystrokes to read the text about all the keyboard
shortcuts you can use.

RE: iTunes 11 Shortcut Keys

2012-12-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Yes, the menu shortcut keys all work and to add to Sandy's suggestion, here
is the list of the main menu shortcut keys. This is also the order the menu
items are in and once you are in whichever menu tree Jaws speaks everything
correctly and you can down arrow through the choices. There are only 6 main
menu items and as in most cases, File is first and Help is last. I don't
find it difficult even to remember that f I press Alt and then arrow to the
right ttwice that I am then oon "View", but it's also easy to memorize the
shortcut keys especially since File, Edit, View and Help are often standard
in other applications and the shortcut keys are always the same. This only
leaves Control and Store. Here are the menu items and shortcut keys:

File: Alt+F

Edit: Alt+E

View:Alt+V

Controls: Alt+C

Store:Alt+S

Help: Alt+H

Warning about Nook Book Orders (at least for last night and this morning)

2012-12-01 Thread Christine Grassman
I attempted placing an order for my first Nook Book to try out the iPhone app,
but the two times (once last night, and once this morning) that I attempted to
place an order, I received a message saying the servers were undergoing routine
maintenance,, sorry for any inconvenience, and please try again later. This was
after inputting all of my information, selecting my address, and hitting "buy
now" --so searching and the first part of the check-out process were not
impacted by the "routine maintenance".
I called Barnes & Noble to ask whether any orders had gone through, and they
assured me no -- my last order received was in September, 2011 (when I ceased
purchasing from Barnes & Noble until such time as Nook books became
accessible). They put me through to Digital Support, where I was told to try
again in 24 hours. I suggested that they inform customers of planned
maintenance, and give some indication as to when they can expect said
maintenance to end.

Re: Copying and pasting using the pinch gesture

2012-12-01 Thread Christopher Chaltain
You start with the two fingers together and then move them apart to
select text. You bring them together to unselected text you've just
selected. I'm not sure about Facebook, but I've selected text in email
messages, edit fields and the like. Remember that you can use the roter
to determine the chunks that will be selected, e.g. characters, words,
lines and so on.

Re: tonido and multiple sources

2012-12-01 Thread Rob Harris
Ok, two things; can you rely on the friends to leave their computers on
for you? Do they let you map into it from your pc?

If you can do those, you can map network drive on your pc to the folder in
theirs; check it works before the next step; then flag the new drive
letter as accessible to your tonido. That will do it for as many as you can
get access to.

Subject: tonido and multiple sources

Hi all.
Just a curiosity. I have my tonido working fine in my Pc, and my iPhone.
Even though, I don't have all songs that I would like in my Pc or iPhone,
either I don't have all music that my friends has in their computers. Is
posible to install tonido in a second or in another computers, and use my
own account, of course, having just one tonido running each time that I will
try to connect my iPhone to any computer?
I want to read the songs that some friends has in their computers, and play
it in a place where is WiFi available, but allways using my own account, and
just a tonido running each time. It is possible?
Thanks
Pablo

Hello Jane,

Try double-tapping with one finger in the middle of the screen. You don't need
to turn VoiceOver off.

I'm assuming your version of Kobo works the same as mine, but they do have
different names now as mine is Kobo by FNAC. The straight Kobo app is no longer
available here in France.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: Kobo Help

2012-12-01 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Jane,

I'm really sorry. I hadn't looked at the settings recently and things have
changed considerably.

I've had to get help from my sighted husband to find where the page transition
setting has gone.

You now have to be in a book to find the reading settings. Tap the middle of
the screen to make the options available, slide your finger down the righthand
side of the screen until you hear "Link image". Start flicking right. You'll
hear: Reduce text size, increase text size, Toggle night reading mode, Reduce
brightness, increase brightness, toggle night reading mode (this is mislabelled
and should read "Location in book), Toggle night reading mode (mislabelled
again and should read "Text settings) and this is the one you need. There are
two more buttons after this one and yet another is mislabelled as Toggle night
reading mode and should read Help.

Page transition style is the second heading and Scrolling is the fourth option.

I've now relabelled the button so I hope it sticks.

Cheers,

Anne
.

Re: iAssociate 2 problem with edit boxes and the virtual keyboard

2012-12-01 Thread Holly Anderson
the way I've seen to get around this problem is that the edit box is not on the
screen. If you go to the next page with a 3 finger swipe to the left, you
should find the edit box on that page and be able to double tap it normally.

Check out Glucowiz in Google-Play. It allows late entries, even days

With IOS 5.0 or later actually.
Of course, the 4th gen iPad shipped with 6.0.

RE: iTunes

2012-12-01 Thread Daniel Miller
Hi,

Naturally it's in Music, well...because it's Music, just not music you have
stored on your machine or in the cloud. Lol. But yes, it's the last radio
button in the music section.

Hi Beverly,

Radio is still there, but for some strange reason, it's in the Music
section. When you choose Music in what they're calling the sidebar, there
are several radio buttons for things like album and artist. One is radio.
When you choose it, the normal list of categories appears, and you expand it
just as you did before.

Best,
Anna

Your friend has to have the program installed and have created an account in

Thanks
Pablo

Re: Kobo Help

2012-12-01 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Jane,

First of all, you have to have the page transition set to scrolling. You find
this setting if you tap the button labelled Icon Gear.

To go to next chapter, tap the link on the righthand side of the screen at the
end of the chapter. The link at the lefthand side takes you to the previous
chapter.

If the jump to the next chapter goes wrong for some reason, tap anywhere in the
middle of the screen and the toolbar will apear at the top of the screen. Tap
the button labelled Icon TOC, and you'll be on the table of contents. There you
can tap on the chapter you want.

Sometimes, it takes a long time to go to the next chapter, and in such cases,
symbols other than letters start to be read strangely. Going back to the Table
Of Contents and reopening the chapter will solve this problem.

Cheers,

Anne

RE: Skype question

2012-12-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Alex,

It's been a while since I accepted somebody on my iPhone, so I went ahead
and created a new Skype Id and then added the one I normally use as a
contact. After that I started the Skype app (latest version which came out a
few days ago) on my iPhone 4S running iOS 6.0.1.

As soon as Skype came up I heard a tone and then right near the top and
right after the search field Voiceover said something like "1 new contact
request". I double tapped on it and saw the request from the new Skype Id I
created. I double tapped on it and then there is a button at the top right
which I think says "Titleover" or something like that. Sorry, forgot to get
Voiceover to spell it out, but it's the button at the top right of the
screen, if you double tap it you get a menu with a few choices, the first
one is Add to Contacts", there is also "Block Contact" in that.

I double tapped "Add to Contacts" and about 2 seconds later the status of my
Contact on my PC where I was signed in to the new account changed from "has
not yet shared details" to "online, on a mobile device".

Good luck,

Sieghard
