iTunes is an application you can run on your PC/Mac to play music,
synchronize material to your iDevice, manage your multi-media library,
backup your iDevice to your PC/Mac and so on. It's also a store where
you can purchase or download multi-media material, such as podcasts,
music, videos, books and so on.

iCloud is additional storage over the internet you can use to backup
your iDevice, use as additional storage for your multi-media materials,
share materials and settings between multiple devices and so on.

There are about pages and FAQ's for both on the web and Google will let
you get to them straight away.

iTunes is an application you can run on your PC/Mac to play music,
synchronize material to your iDevice, manage your multi-media library,
backup your iDevice to your PC/Mac and so on. It's also a store where
you can purchase or download multi-media material, such as podcasts,

iCloud is additional storage over the internet you can use to backup

There are about pages and FAQ's for both on the web and Google will let

Questions about My Daily Thoughts app

2013-04-05 Thread Kimber Gardner
Hi,

Recently I started using the my daily thoughts app for journaling on
my 4s and I like it very much. But I do have a couple of questions.

1 When I created my first entry I was able to create a category. Now
when I go back into that journal I can neither create additional
categories nor find any reference at all to categories. What am I
missing?

Second, and this is weird, On the screen where I write my entry, there
appears a longish passage of what looks like Latin text. Does anyone
else see this or know what it is?

Thanks for any help.

Btw, I emailed the developer and thanked them for such a great job
with accessibility and also to ask about future dropbox integration.
I'll let the list know what I hear back.

I assume some features of iTunes (backing up for example) are only
available when you connect your iPhone to your PC/Mac, but I know you
can do some things over the wifi network, so I'm not sure. With the
iCloud, you don't need a connection to your PC/Mac.

RE: Questions about My Daily Thoughts app

Hi Kimber,
I don't know anything about this ap, but I have a guess on your second
question.
Graphic designers and printers often use latin text as filler, or dummy
text, to show how the text would look on the page (or screen in this
instance.)
It's called Lorem Ipsum, and you can learn more than you ever wanted to know
about it here:

updated Word Guess Collection.

2013-04-05 Thread Phil Vlasak

Hi Folks,
They updated Word Guess Collection, a game for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad
April 05, 2013

Version: 1.3

by Yohann C. Taieb:
Word Guess Collection game brings back the classic hangman game concept with
a twist! Challenge yourself by guessing words within different categories
such as pets, musical instruments, candies, colors, superheroes, fruits,
professions, Christmas, Halloween, sports, and much more! The game keeps
track of your progress for each categories, and gives you the opportunity to
earn a reward badge for each category completed.

Just double tap on the letters that you think go into the answer. After you
tap on the three letters to answer a clue, it will automatically fill it in

and then the clue will say solved in front it it. So if you think an answer
might be hat, double tap on the H, then an A, and then a t. You will either
hear a noise letting you know it was correct or incorrect.

Another good tip is make sure you have characters checked in your
rotor so you can move letter for letter when looking at the word you are
trying to guess, otherwise, VoiceOver won't read the blank spaces in the
word.

The update fixed some voiceover problems.
It is free.

RE: A question for looktel

2013-04-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Ramy,

You just have to take pictures of the same item and record a description for
each item. You cannot take, for example, 3 pictures of the same item as in
maybe one from the front, one from the back and one from the side and have
these all associated with the same voice recording. Basically each picture
you take even if it is for the same item is separate and has its own
recording/description.

It is also very much recommended that you ask a sighted person to take the
original picture since you get much more reliable results. The item has to
be properly focused, you should not have anything else in the background and
as much as possible the item should fill the entire picture. This means that
if it is a small item like maybe a credit card or other card of that size
that the picture has to be taken fairly close up, but if the item is the
size of a piece of paper one has to hold the camera further away.

I assume that a blind person could possibly get reasonably good results by
using the Standscan for taking pictures since at least it has white
background.

Regards,

Sieghard

If you keep flicking right, you will find the address field. There is one,
just keep flicking.

Yes, you are correct; I was commenting on Digit-Eyes.

I think the comments about shopping with a barcode scanner are generally
applicable -- if the store has put codes in their shelf tags and is careful
about where they put stuff, its terrific.Otherwise, quite frustrating.

Raul, I apologize if I am beating this to death; however, I want to
encourage you to frequently caution digest list readers always to change
the subject lines of their post so as to reflect accurately the topic

Re: digest mail every day

2013-04-05 Thread Chuck Dean
Hi Don,
The problem with changing the subject line un the emails, is that it
screws it up at the website.
I have no idea how many here view the posts at the website, like me,
but it can get confusing .

But if everyone started a new email, that would cause a lot of clutter
on the website.
There is no good answer.

Hi,

Has anyone had experience using the Office 365 Home Premium with an IPhone

computers will sync. I am happy with using Itunes to sync my phone with
Office 2007 but want to find out if Office 365 is even useable.

Thanks.

Hi,

Amazon has them. I just placed an order for the ¼ inch. They claim they
are so strong that only one of those will hold a calendar on your fridge.
Not sure if I believe that they can hold up to 8 pounds but I'll see when I
get them.

Hi Keith,

I am not sure where you are, but I would just google it. Amazon probably has
them, I definitely know that Lee Valley Tools has them which is where I buy
mine. Lee Valley Tools is a Canadian company which sells woodworker
supplies, tools, all sorts of specialty hardware and so on. Their website is
www.LeeValleyTools.com. When you first go to the website you have only 4
links to choose from:
En - for English, Canada
Fr - for French, Canada
US - for the United States
Int - if you are an international customers outside of North America.

It's one of those stores where as a woodworker I should not go too often,
I've spend many thousands of Dollars there over the years. Here are a few
link for some of the rare earth magnets they have:

Rare Earth Circular Magnets:
http://www.leevalley.com/US/wood/page.aspx?p=32065&cat=1,42363,42348
Here a bit of a blurb about their qualities, the largest 1 inch diameter
magnetwill ift a 30 pound block of steel:
Until you have actually used rare-earth magnets, you cannot appreciate their
strength. Rare-earth magnets achieve maximum attractive force when
sandwiched between two pieces of steel.
The 1/4" diameter by 1/10" thick magnet will lift a 2.5 lb block of steel;
the 1/2" diameter one will lift a 9 lb block - see the chart at right. It
all has to do with the electron array in the neodymium, the rare earth they
are made from.
There are hundreds of uses for these magnets - from holding keys or wrenches
on machines to making fridge magnets. Nickel plated with slightly rounded
edges, they can be glued in place with almost any glue (epoxy is the most
secure).
The 3/4" and 1" dia. magnets are so powerful that only people with very
strong hands can separate them without using an aid of some kind. This
presents a handling problem for us, so we sell them only in bundles of five,
with instructions for simple separation methods.
The 3/4 inch magnet will lift a 22 pound block of steel and the 1 inch size
a 30 pound block.
The odd one may have a minor chip in it since collisions can happen easily
at these power levels.

Rare Earth Ring Magnets:
http://www.leevalley.com/US/wood/page.aspx?p=40075&cat=1,42363,42348
These are shaped like a washer with a hole in the middle and various outside
and inside diameter options are available.

Oh, and they are cheap, too, the quarter inch is 36 Cents a piece if you buy
less than 10, then they are 29 Cents, the 3/8 inch ones are 58 Cents and 46
Cents and the half inch ones are 85m Cents and 80 Cents, but those would be
way too strong for the purpose of holding the Standscan together.
I still have 8 of the quarter inch ones and I'll see if tomorrow I can
replace some of the ones that don't work with them and I'll report back as
to how it worked.

Regards,
Sieghard

Re: Including Addresses in contacts

2013-04-05 Thread Mickey Quenzer
Hello Donna:

Here's what worked for me. Try it and let me know if this helps.

1. Open your contacts application.
2.Find the contact you want to get the address from. and select that contact by
double tapping with a single finger.
3. Find the address you want to copy.
4. Double Tap and hold on that address.
5.Use your
Rooter command to select edit. Flick up and down to see what options are
available and select "Copy". Double-Tap to copy the address.
Note: Copy will probably be the only option available.

6. Go to your email which you are composing and select "Edit" then Paste.
The address should be in your email at this point.

Let me know if this helps.

Is the LifeChurch one the same as the Youversion one? I also have Bible
Gateway, but I like the You version 1 better. I'm not exactly sure why, but,
if I'm remembering correctly, it fseems easier to use.

Thanks,

Can developers make these apps accessible somehow if I were to contact

Fast Forward And Rewind With iTunes And iPhone 5

2013-04-05 Thread Jessica Diaz
Hello
I just started wanting to take my audio books around on my Iphone for
my daily commutes. When I am in a file that is 8 hours long, how can I
fast forward and rewind? If I lose my place and want to get back, I
flick up and down on this track position but it moves by hour. Any
suggestions? If iTunes isn't the best for this can someone suggest
another app?

Help needed in student project

Hello,

I am a graduate student from the Rochester Institute of Technology in
Rochester, NY, working with Dr. Stephanie Ludi. I am working on research to
enhance indoor navigation by the blind through the use of assistive
technology. As a part of my research, I need to better understand the real
world issues and perspectives by adults who are blind whether navigating

adults who are blind or legally blind, and who use either a cane or guide

Interviews should take between 30-40 minutes over phone or Skype.

Please contact us if you’re interested in participating, or if you have any

Thank you,

No it does not matter whether it's connected to a laptop or a desktop. You can
use iTunes Uniway not cloudy does not have to be connected to the desktop or
laptop it just needs to be connected to your Wi-Fi. The phone does.

2013-04-05 Thread Alan Paganelli
I would think that plastic would have been stronger and lighter then
cardboard. And, what happens if it gets wet? I think I'll hold off on this
product until they get the kinks worked out a little better. It does sound
like a great idea and product but I would want it portable as well.

Hello ron,

I am sure it could be done, but if you wanted this to be portable you
would
have to use 1/8 inch plywood and even then it would probably be much
heavier

than the Standscan.

I guess as early adopters you always run into the problem that the product
you bought might be improved and you end up with a version that is not as
good as that which is made after feedback and improvements are
implemented.

Harry sent me an email today saying that the new production run is made
from
thicker cartbord which is laminated on both sides hence is more durable
and

that they use magnets that are 180% stronger and they also improved the
location of the notch for the cable. Oh well, it's still a good product
and

I at least will mostly use it at home where I don't mind if the thing is
just setup and has a few pieces of tape on it.

I assume a few strategically placed Velcro strips might help for those of
us

where the magnets don't work all that well.

Hi Sieghard,

I thought it may not be a bad idea to use these round or square pieces of
Velcro on the two places that seem to be the weakest. In my case, I find
that the 2 magnets on the left side really need to be stronger. I mean
the
back left where the wire comes out and the front left. I'm not saying
that
they are the only 2 weak magnets because I feal that they are all too
weak.

What do you think of that idea? Do you think that would help?

Also, I was thinking of your idea of making one out of plywood. Do you
think that it would be possible to use small piano hinges to make it
foldable?

Hi Annie and Krister,

I received my Standscan yesterday and while I had the benefit of reading
the

various posts regarding setting it up, I found the detailed descriptions
very difficult to understand without the Standscan in front of you.
Anyhow,

it took me maybe 15 minutes to figure it out, after all, the places where
one has to fold it are easily felt.

However, my Standscan will not hold together properly without a bit of
tape
especially on the front top corners where the opening is and the back
corner
where the cable comes out. I know mine is part of a new production batch
so
maybe that has something to do with it, but just to make sure that I
wasn't

doing this wrong, I asked my manager at my store to put it together. He is
sighted, he has gone to college for plumbing and electrician, he is a
hobby

woodworker same as myself and all around a handy kind of guy. He looked at
the instructions and put it together. It turns out that I had done it
correctly, but the place where the cable is supposed to come out is
slightly
mis-aligned and the magnets on the top in the front where the opening is
and
on the side where the cable comes out (after he made the notch a bit
larger)

will not hold even though they line up.

Now that I have the Standscan I agree that the way the product is made
should be improved and possibly a different material might be required to
make it fit better, last longer and hold together more securely. If I were
to carry this thing around with me in my pack all the time even in some
sort
of protective envelope, I could see how repeated setting it up and taking
it

down would probably wear it out and, as I said, in my case I would
definitely have to replace some of the magnets. I may actually try this
anyways and use some very small rare earth magnets. Those things are maybe
slightly thicker, but they could probably be glued to the outside of the
cartbord as they are so strong that they would easily work through the
cartbord. Anyhow, now that I have a Standscan, I am planning to measure it
and I will probably built a box out of 1/8 or 1/4 inch oak plywood with
these exact dimensions. This would not be designed as a portable,
take-down

box, but I c

I find the easiest way to do this is with the center remote button on the
earpods that came with my iPhone 5. Pressing the center button 3 times and
holding it will rewind the track. Pressing it twice and holding it will fast
forward the track. You can hear the track playing rapidly as it rewinds and
advances.

I just started wanting to take my audio books around on my Iphone for
my daily commutes. When I am in a file that is 8 hours long, how can I

flick up and down on this track position but it moves by hour. Any

Well, unless there is a decent receiver that covers the internet stations as
well, I know there is one but I don't know if it is accessible, using the
SiriusXm app on the iPhone lets you access the content that you can't get on
the satellite itself. There are quite a few stations that are
internet-only, including a few that used to be carried on the bird.

Is the Sirius/XM App accessible?

I have to add my $.02 in to this thread. First off, yes, the app is
fairly accessible but one of my major gripes about the app is the fact
that if you leave your iPhone idol after 90 minutes of listening, the
app will time out and you'll have to double tap the keep listening
button every 90 minutes. Unless you have a jailbroken iPhone because
someone in an earlier post has said that you can have continuous
playing if you do this, I'd suggest buying an actual receiver like I
did and pay for that instead. Just my $.02.

Hello,

I have been using the small business Exchange online plan of Office 365 very
happily for a couple of years now. I have my business's domain registered
and I believe the new Home Premium plan does include Exchange as well. All
you have to do is to setup your email if you are using their email as an
Exchange account both on your iPhone and your computer in Outlook and your
email, contacts and calendars and even Notes will sync.

I don't know what other part of Office 365 Home Premium you may have a need
for, but it is my understanding that the plan also allows you to install a
full version of Office 2013 Professional on I think 3 or 5 computers.

RE: Fast Forward And Rewind With iTunes And iPhone 5

2013-04-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Jessica,

I assume you refer to the Music app. The music app will advance or go back
on the time line by approx. 10% of whatever length your current chapter is
if you flick up or down. You can also do a double tap and hold and then
carefully drag your finger right or left for smaller movements. But the fact
is that if your book is one large file without chapter navigation and it is
10 hours (600 minutes) long, then a flick will go back or forward by an
hour. If your book was 10 hours long, but it was broken into 10 chapters
which approx. were 1 hour each, then a flick up or down would move by about
6 minutes in whichever chapter you are in.

How well or not well this works for you is large dependent how the audio
book was created. If you rip them from CD are their chapters and all that.
It's also important to make sure that the file or files is/are designated as
Audio Books in iTunes on the computer. You do this by going to the file or
highlighting the files of a book if they are in the music library, then go
to Get Info, Control+I if you use windows, then go to the Options tab and
find the Media Kind box. Make sure it is set to Audio book and then tab
until you find the checkbox to remember playback position and check it.

You should also be able to use audible and possibly Downcast to play these
files. I actually like how the music app works with the way I create my
audio books. If I have a bunch of MP3 files either ripped or downloaded, I
use Chapter and Vers to create a single M4B file and if it is one large MP3
file I also use Chapter and Vers to convert it to M4B and the program allows
you to insert breaks every 30 or 60 minutes or whatever time interval you
want. If I had a 10 hour book I would insert a break every 60 minutes, those
would be basically chapters even though they may not correspond with the
chapters in the book, but I could use Next or Previous to jump to these
points and then use the flick up or down for navigating by approx. 6 minute
intervals and the 30 second Jump back for even smaller intervals.

Hope this helps a bit,
Sieghard

RE: Standscan not holding together and other thoughts on the product, was: Standscan pro - I admit defeat

2013-04-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Ron,

Belive me, those things are so strong that anything that is half an inch and
up you have a hard time separating by hand. The quarter inch ones at least
those from Lee Valley are rated to lift 2.5 pounds, but for purposes of the
Standscan they should be plenty strong.

The 1/4" diameter by 1/10" thick magnet will lift a 2.5 lb block of steel;
the 1/2" diameter one will lift a 9 lb block - see the chart at right. It
all has to do with the electron array in the neodymium, the rare earth they
are made from.

Sieghard

2013-04-05 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I have to agree with Don on this. How does having the subject agree with
the content of the message screw things up on the web site? How is this
more confusing than having a subject line which no longer has anything
to do with the message or the thread? I also don't see how using a new
message to start a new thread with it's own subject would clutter things
up. I only seldomly use the web site to read messages, so maybe I'm
missing something, but I do find the archive and the web site hard to
use when I can't find a particular message because the subject doesn't
have anything to do with the body of the message.

2013-04-05 Thread Ron Pelletier
Hi Annie,

With all the suggestions that have been made, maybe you should wait a bit to
buy your second one. Already they are talking about the next order being
thicker cardboard and laminated on both sides with magnets 180% stronger.

I also agree with you that the price is not an object. With what things
cost today, you sure don't expect a whole lot for under $30. If they could
come up with something stronger for a few dollars more, the price still
would be acceptable and the extra strength much needed.

talking goggles

2013-04-05 Thread Troy Sullivan
I found this app on the apple vis website. Here's a description:
Description of App
Talking Goggles can recognize images and speaks out what it finds.

a.. Recognizes almost any image within seconds. Logos, landmarks, books,
products, artwork, text and more..
b.. Shows the description of the image and speaks it out to you.
c.. Speaks it out using the correct accent of your selected language.
d.. Includes a torchlight to assist in reading.
e.. Video mode. Talking Goggles will continuously check the video stream for
any familiar images, and will present it and speak it out when it finds
something.
f.. Easy copy function. Use goggles as a scanner/translator and use the
results in any other application.
g.. Look up more details on the image found by doing a direct search. Or, if
it is a product, check where it is available nearby, and show a price
comparison.
Don't know the name of that actor on that poster? Just point your camera at it
and Talking Goggles will tell you!

Want to find out if that product is really the cheapest around? Take a picture
and let Talking Goggles do a comparison for you.

Point Talking Goggles at a logo, and you will be told the name of the company
after which you can do a search for it.

Talking Goggles is particularly good at recognizing book covers and posters.
Try it out!

Reviews are very positive so far:

'This amazing application costs just $0.99 and is a masterpiece and could be a
new trend.'

'You really need to try the app to see exactly how good it is.'

'This app worked well and quickly. I took a photo of a few products from my
cupboard and it identified them immediately, and offered access to the internet
to learn more.'

Has anyone tried this app?

Wonder if this will replace tap tap see or any of those other camera apps out
there for the blind?

To All A T & T Wireless Subscribers

2013-04-05 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

Recently, AT&T Navigator has been updated to a new version that, in many
ways, is much more VoiceOver friendly and easier to use than it's
predecessor.

In addition, one can now use a web browser, on a computer, to add and remove
favorites, look up businesses, etc.

The cost for this AT&T sponsored App is $9.95 per month.

Aside from my Trekker Breeze, which I use when traveling independently, I
use AT&T Navigator for all of my motorized rout navigation. I think it is a
marvelous App, albeit, not for the novice VoiceOver user.

Re: Standscan not holding together and other thoughts on the product, was: Standscan pro - I admit defeat

2013-04-05 Thread David Chittenden
I completely agree. I used Prizmo, by itself on my iPhone, for the past few
years. I have been a power-user of Prizmo, using it several times per week for
mail and occasionally for menus in a few restaurants. That said, the
ease-of-use of the StandScan Pro, and the speed of TextGrabber when using the
StandScan Pro is astounding. Next week, I am going to take my StandScan Pro to
the university library and try it on some journals that are not online which
have articles I need to access for my research. The most amazing thing to me is
that it is all done with my little iPhone 5. The quality is comparable to my
old system using a flat-bed scanner and computer, but it is completely
portable. And, the cost is so much less expensive. My first StandScan Pro has
already paid for itself in the amount of time it is saving me. Considering how
much librarians do not like having certain books placed on flat-bed scanners
because it stresses, and eventually ruins the binding, I am completely
satisfied with my initial purchase. When my StandScan Pro starts failing, which
may be fairly soon given how much use I am putting it through, hopefully the
updated model will last longer.

2013-04-05 Thread David Chittenden
After reading the below email, I purchased the app and tested it. Unlike VizWiz
and TapTapSee, Goggles does not appear to use people to describe images. It
seems to use image matching exclusively. All the buttons are labelled.

Based on my success with this app, I am considering purchasing the company's
map app called Sparkling Maps.

RE: Standscan not holding together and other thoughts on the product, was: Standscan pro - I admit defeat

2013-04-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Annie,

Harry told me in an email that some of the people who ordered their
Standscan towards the very end of the promotion are going to receive the
version from the new production run which, as Ron pointed out, is made from
stronger cartbord that is laminated on both sides and has stronger magnets.
I think if you order a second one now it's pretty safe you would get that
version.

It would be very interesting since you would probably the first who has both
versions. I am in fact thinking I might do the same since I wouldn't mind
having one set up at home and having one at my store or for taking along and
of course I would use the new one to take along as it sounds stronger.

I also agree that the $30 don't just buy you a cartboard box, they do buy
you a cartboard box with an LED module and if you took advantage of the
promo you actually got a cartboard box with light source and an adapter
which you would you pay $10 for at Radio Shack for $27.

For me the benrefit is not so much how well the product is made but how much
use I get out of it and there is no question that with the Standscan you
actually get very good scans out of your iPhone and a $10 app where before
it was a matter of luck whether you got a useable result or not.

Anyhow, Harry did ask for suggestions and feedback and I did post that so
all of those who complain should just write to Standscan and explain what
they would like to see in future versions of the Standscan. Of course they
would have to send a constructive message rather than putting down the
product and complaining.

Regards,
Sieghard

RE: talking goggles

2013-04-05 Thread Neal Ewers
Hi, I have no luck with this app. I get lots of results with tap tap see,
but not one with talking goggles. I'm obviously doing something wrong. I
have it set to still camera, I hold it in front of the same objects I try
with tap tap see and take a picture. I get a message that says something
like no objects found. Tap tap see will give me amazing things like water
color picture of vases of flowers. It gave me the names of 4 different boxes
of crackers. Etc. So, the question is, why does talking goggles not work.
I'm in the same room. I have used flash on and flash off and the lights in
the room are on. Don't know.

RE: talking goggles

2013-04-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Chandan,

It is only 99 Cents and for the most part it's quite self-explanatory as
there are only 5 buttons. The app does, by the way, use it's own voice to
read out what it comes up with. The English is a female voice and sounds OK.
Theoretically you could silence Voiceover with a 3-finger double tap and the
app would still read out the results although if you leave Voiceover on you
can touch the screen in the middle and find the result and review it.

There is a "Flash Off" button at the top left which turns into a "Flash"
button if you double tap it.

If it says "Flash Off" then, well. the Flash is off. If it just says
"Flash", then the flash is on which means the Flash of the iPhone puts out a
permanent and constant light.

At the top right is a button that says "Flag En". I assume since it says
"Flag" that visually it displays a flag maybe of the States or England. This
allows you to select a different voice/language. If you double tap on it a
list of languages comes up on the screen from Africans and Albanian to Welsh
and Yiddish, I think it has a total of 51 languages and whichever one you
double tap will say "Selected" and the list goes away and the icon at the
top right displays the result in a 2-letter abbreviation like the "Flag En".

Across the bottom above the Home Key are 3 buttons, from Left to right they
are:

Gallery - this will show you the albums and pictures on your iPhone,
similary to Photo Viewer.

Camera Copy 14 - this is in the middle above the home key and I renamed this
to "Take Picture" since that is what it does

Video Camera - this will start continuous recording, the "Camera Copy 14"
button in the middle will turn to a stop button and if you stop recording it
will say "Record". If you switch to video recording then the Video Camera
button on the right will turn into a "Still Camera" button and you can
double tap it to switch back to single picture/still camera mode.

I agree with David, this app seems to be amazing, it recognizes logos and it
does OCR and what's more, it does OCR while it's in video mode. Aim it at
something and hold it still for a bit and you'll get some results, I don't
even want to think what this thing will do with the Standscan.

I had a can of corn and the first time I took a picture it told me it was
corn. This, by the way, is a Canadian Safeway product and Digit-Eyes did not
know it's barcode since unfortunately Digit-Eyes doesn't know a lot of
Safeway barcodes from Canada.

I then turned the can a bit and it started recognizing bits of text from
nutritional information and all sort of stuff. I pointed my phone into the
fridge and it told me I had Tropicana Orange Juice, I turned it a bit and
here was Lucern Milk. astounding.

This is a great find and well worth the 99 Cents.

Regards,

Sieghard

Hi again,

I forgot to mention that if you do take individual pictures they get saved
in your Camera Roll, but if you use Video Mode the video doesn't get saved.
I didn't see a Setting unless there is something for that app in the

question about muting the phone

2013-04-05 Thread denise colley
Can anyone tell me how to mute the phone when you are on a call? I have the
iphone 5. I was told if you hide the keypad the mute button is at the top
of the screen, but how do you hide the keypad?

I told another iPhone user about this list he has an iPhone 4. What does he

Re: recommending the list

2013-04-05 Thread Christopher Chaltain
They could use the link at the end of each message on this list, i.e.
http://groups.google.com/group/viphone?hl=en

Alternatively, they could send a message to
viphone+subscr...@googlegroups.com.

Re: talking goggles

2013-04-05 Thread chandan mokashi
Hi sieghard,
Thank you so very much for the informative mail. Indeed, it will come in
very useful when i use the app.
Regards,
Chandan.

Hi Chandan,

It is only 99 Cents and for the most part it’s quite self-explanatory as
there are only 5 buttons. The app does, by the way, use it’s own voice to
read out what it comes up with. The English is a female voice and sounds
OK. Theoretically you could silence Voiceover with a 3-finger double tap
and the app would still read out the results although if you leave
Voiceover on you can touch the screen in the middle and find the result and
review it.

There is a “Flash Off” button at the top left which turns into a “Flash”
button if you double tap it.

If it says “Flash Off” then, well… the Flash is off. If it just says
“Flash”, then the flash is on which means the Flash of the iPhone puts out
a permanent and constant light.

At the top right is a button that says “Flag En”. I assume since it says
“Flag” that visually it displays a flag maybe of the States or England.
This allows you to select a different voice/language. If you double tap on
it a list of languages comes up on the screen from Africans and Albanian to
Welsh and Yiddish, I think it has a total of 51 languages and whichever one
you double tap will say “Selected” and the list goes away and the icon at
the top right displays the result in a 2-letter abbreviation like the “Flag
En”.

Across the bottom above the Home Key are 3 buttons, from Left to right they
are:

Gallery – this will show you the albums and pictures on your iPhone,
similary to Photo Viewer.

Camera Copy 14 – this is in the middle above the home key and I renamed
this to “Take Picture” since that is what it does

Video Camera – this will start continuous recording, the “Camera Copy 14”
button in the middle will turn to a stop button and if you stop recording
it will say “Record”. If you switch to video recording then the Video
Camera button on the right will turn into a “Still Camera” button and you
can double tap it to switch back to single picture/still camera mode.

I agree with David, this app seems to be amazing, it recognizes logos and
it does OCR and what’s more, it does OCR while it’s in video mode. Aim it
at something and hold it still for a bit and you’ll get some results, I
don’t even want to think what this thing will do with the Standscan.

I had a can of corn and the first time I took a picture it told me it was
corn. This, by the way, is a Canadian Safeway product and Digit-Eyes did
not know it’s barcode since unfortunately Digit-Eyes doesn’t know a lot of
Safeway barcodes from Canada.

I then turned the can a bit and it started recognizing bits of text from
nutritional information and all sort of stuff. I pointed my phone into the
fridge and it told me I had Tropicana Orange Juice, I turned it a bit and
here was Lucern Milk… astounding.

This is a great find and well worth the 99 Cents.

Regards,

Sieghard
