Jailbreaking 7.04 - iBlindTech 56
Hi all, On the latest episode of iBlindTech, Hugo joins us today to walk through jailbreaking iOS 7.04. With Apple’s latest beta release of iOS 7.1, it appears they have closed the exploits that allow this jailbreak. Also many of the problems that users were experiencing when this jailbreak was first released have now been fixed. So if you’re considering a jailbreak, now’s the time to jump on it. Re: Accessible twitter apps
Did anyone else recognize that the sound that is played when new tweets arrive isn't played anymore although sound effects are turned on? Another thing is that the number of tweets is only spoken occasionally, not always. The VoiceOver bug that's mentioned in the update notes (cursor jumps back to top of list when interacting with a tweet) doesn't seem to be fixed. But the worst thing is that I can't seem to read older tweets. In the previous version, you had this load more element that was shown after approximately 99 tweets. This isn't directly visibl!a anymore. Now, you read tweet number 99, and afterwards, it says read more. But I don't know how to double-tab on this. When you move to the right, you can only read the older tweets. Can anyone help? Thanks! - Original Message - From: Alex Hall mehg...@gmail.com To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Thursday, January 23, 2014 4:06 AM Subject: Re: Accessible twitter apps It supports streaming, so timelines are updated as soon as tweets arrive. The notifications I was talking about are push notifications. Tweetlist checks every few minutes and alerts you, but Twitterrific is always waiting, so can push an alert immediately. It also supports more than mentions and DMs - it does follows, favorites of your tweets, and retweets even where you are not mentioned. On Jan 22, 2014, at 3:51 PM, Wayne Merritt wcmerr...@gmail.com wrote: Alex, Can you explain that real time notification further? Do you mean it gives you push notifications, or that it updates the timelines of new tweets quicker than TweetList? Please explain. Regards, Wayne On 1/22/14, Alex Hall mehg...@gmail.com wrote: Just some corrections here. Tweetlist is a great app, but twitterrific has most of the functionality you say you prefer in Tweetlist. It has separate tweets, mentions, and messages views, it *can* show everything in one list but you can turn that off, you can retweet, reply, and so on without opening a tweet, it fully supports managing lists (as of today), and it supports live streaming. Both apps cost about the same, though Twitterrific is on sale for $0.99 for a limited time, so you may just want to grab both. My only gripe with Twitterrific is that you have to open a link in the in-app browser before you can send the link to a read later service, but other than that it does everything Tweetlist does. In fact, it goes a step further, giving real-time notifications, instead of the interval-based checking Tweetlist does. On Jan 22, 2014, at 2:49 PM, Wayne Merritt wcmerr...@gmail.com wrote: For what it's worht, TweetList put out an updated app not long ago and it is now called TweetList 4, which is version 4. This is important since it works with the newer twitterAPI's and better on iOS 7. TweetList works great if you use lists in Twitter. I like it a lot since there are gestures you can use to bring up different things, so I don't have to open a tweet if I want to retweet it or open its linked URL. Other apps may have different ways of doing this, but I like how TweetList 4 does it. I also like the different tabs at the bottom of the screen, for my home timeline, and other specific tabs just for mentions and direct messages. I would rather have these categories be in different tabs verses mixed up in one big lump. Is There Such an App?
Hi, Everyone. Is there an app that would let the user create a loop in an MP3 file, then play it back? I'm taking an arranging class and need to analyze a portion of a music file. I am on the go a lot and need to take my studies with me. I have the files on my iPod, but need to play the whole clip back just to work with part of it, and moving to the exact portion I need can be a bear. Getting started with Twitterrific 5
Greetings. Thought I would start a new thread. Okay, I got Twitterrific 5 yesterday. I have been using TweetList 4 and thought I would try Twitterrific. I would like the Twitterrific interface to look like TweetList. Can someone tell me how I can accomplish this, with each tab at the top or bottom showing only new tweets, mentions, and direct messages? I looked in the settings and did not find anything to enable this, but perhaps I missed something. I did like how quickly the timeline was updated, but found the gestures a little different for a tweet. I know they are different apps, but I've gotten used to the triple tap and double tap and hold in TweetList when interacting with tweets. Running Twitterrific 5.6 on an iPhone 5 with iOS 7.0.4, for what that's worth. Re: Getting started with Twitterrific 5
Unified Timeline will toggle this on and off. When off, the Tweets button shows your timeline of tweets; when on, it shows that plus any mentions or direct messages. The buttons to change views are at the top, not the bottom, but they do the same things you're used to once you disable Unified Timeline. Yes, the gestures are different. Double tapping a tweet is the same as triple tapping and presents a menu of option to manage the tweet (reply, retweet, open link, and so on). Double tapping and holding lets you copy the tweet, email it, and do other things with the tweet text. Note that adding the tweet to Instapaper or the Safari Reading List is not the same as taking those actions in links inside the tweet. Downloading Tracks or Albums in Spotify
Hi to the list. I have really enjoyed the accessibility of the Mog IOS app, but since Mog is going away, I’ve signed up with Spotify’s premium service. I cannot seem to work out how to download an album or track, looking in the Context menus, or all of the other options, the choice to download to the device does not seem to be available. Not sure if this is an accessibility issue, So, any hints would be appreciated. Thanks a lot. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. RE: talking gallery
Hello Isaac, Thanks for mentioning the app. It seems to work OK, but I noticed on my iPhone 5S that Voiceover gets routed to the earpiece and stays there as soon as you start recording and also when you play back the recording. I think the developer needs to fix this, I have to exit the app in order to get Voiceover to come back on speaker. RE: talking gallery
Hi Isaac, This is not the apps problem, the app allows you to tag a photo and as far as I am concerned that is perfect. If Apple made it possible to rename photos I still wouldn't necessarily know what's in the photo and if I have a folder on my PC with 100 photos from a holiday I still have to ask for sighted help to maybe throw out the ones which aren't good and then ask what is in the photo before I can rename it with a descriptive file name. Anyhow, Talking Gallery allows you to take pictures right from the app and apply a voice label right after you take the picture so basically this let's you add a label at a time when you do know what's in the picture. If I take a picture of something I know what I am taking a picture of hence I can give it a voice label. If you import pictures from your camera roll then you just have to ask for sighted help just as you would have to do if you labelled the photos in any other way. Hi all, I was using the indaisy app for a while but it had some problems so I deleted it. Now I would like to reinstall but can't find it in the app store or in the previously purchased items. Did they pull the app from the store? Would appreciate any news and advice about what to do I wrote apple support about it. Maybe I could get a refund? Re: Indaisy gone?
Hello Ioana, I believe that the developer of InDaisy stopped supporting it and pulled it from the App Store around late July or August 2012, which was a little over a year after the last version release of the app in 2011. Unless you have an old version of the app backed up on your computer, I don't think you can put it on your iPhone. If you do manage to install it, I'm not sure it would work correctly under the present version of iOS, and there have been posts on AppleVis about users having difficulty accessing the developer's UK web site, levelware.com since the end of last year. Under the circumstances, I doubt you could ask Apple for a refund for a product that has not been sold in their Store for over a year and a half, and for which there seems to be no current developer contact. As Alex suggests, you could try Voice Dream Reader instead. Read2Go, which I bought instead of InDaisy, is also still available, and has support for transferring files through Dropbox, etc. now. Read2Go has better support for reading with Braille devices, but in all other respects, and especially for support for downloadable (better)voices in other other languages, and a wider range of document formats, Voice Dream Reader is to be preferred. Re: Is There Such an App?
Hi, Anna is correct that Amazing Slow Downer ($14.99) can loop playing your music, but an easier app to use for this purpose is Audiostretch. If your music track is under 5 minutes, you can use the free, lite version. The iOS 7 upgrade broke some of the button labeling, so you'll need to label the player controls and the speed and pitch up and down buttons, but once you've done that you can just double tap the play/pause button, flick twice (past the forward button to the refresh button) and double tap on that to select the start point. Wait until you reach the end point where you want to loop, and double tap there again. Your track will continue to loop through these endpoints while playing until you tap on that button a third time to clear the selection points A and B. You can also change speed and pitch while it loops. I posted to this list when the Audiostretch app went on sale for $0.99 at the beginning of January. (It's now $5.99).That post had a full description if the button labeling and links to the discussion and podcast demo at AppleVis. There are other features like being able to import the music either from your Music app or through Dropbox! and being able to email a version of your selected! pitch and speed-shifted section (not in mp3 format though, I'm afraid). Adding Bookmarks Using Safari in iOS 7
Hello, everyone. It appears that if one wants to add a web page to bookmarks in iOS 7 that the share button must be pressed first. Is there another way? App to loop playing of selected sections of an mp3 audio track [was Re: Is There Such an App?]
I meant to change the subject line to something more descriptive. I'll also add that the free lit version of Audiostretch that I recommend you try limits the total length of songs to under 5 minutes, The speed change range is limited to 60% to 100% instead of from -250% to 250%, and the pitch shift is limited to ± 2 semitones instead of 12. You are also limited in your email export to 1 minute. The paid app is unrestricted. iPhone behavior during calls without VO
Hi all, In another thread, someone said that Voiceover causes the iPhone to behave differently during a call. Specifically, when VO is on, lowering the phone from your ear enables speakerphone mode automatically. However, with VO off, the phone does not enter this mode. Did I understand things correctly? If so, I must say this is very annoying. I'd much rather see a gesture implemented that will switch between the speaker and earpiece modes, so that I can hang up, select a menu option; and so on in relative privacy. Headphones work well, as discussed in that other thread, but there is the odd time I don't have them. Plus, of course, everyone can't use headphones at all times. I'm just waiting to hear from you all before writing to Apple Access bility about this. Thanks. Re: dingtone and vo.
I started using Dingtone a few days ago. There are some buttons that are not labeled but I haven’t found any problems in getting to where I need to go in order to use the app, at least for texting. The only bad thing that I have found is that unless other people that you are texting are calling have the app installed, the texts alone take 50 cents off your credit for each text you send, not sure how much comes off for phone calls. There is another thing too, when watching videos to earn more credit, there is not a way to get back to the main page of the app unless you close the app and remove it from the app switcher, then relaunch the app, but you do earn 50 cents of credit for each video you watch. I do like the fact that I was able to get a number with an area code that is more commonly known in my area. Not a bad app, but there could be a few improvements made as far as accessibility goes. Re: iPhone behavior during calls without VO
Yes, I did say that, and you apparently haven't read the rest of the message about it. Here is what happens with every app where VO stays in the earpiece, without exception. People start complaining on various lists that VO is broken whenever they use the particular app because they cannot hear VO. This complaining continues until 1) the app developer sends VO to the speaker, or 2) people cease using the app. Now, what do you honestly believe will happen when a person takes the phone away from the ear and cannot hear, or can barely here, VO? In fact, what will you personally do? My bet is you will start complaining as loudly as everybody else. In fact, you can test this for yourself. When on a phone call, take the phone away from your ear. Perform a two-finger swipe up to get VO reading the entire screen. Now, hold a couple fingers in front of, and just a little below, the earpiece. You will very quickly notice that it is extremely hard to hear VO talking through the earpiece when the earpiece is away from your ear. Put another way, we intellectually believe that VO would be nice and quiet so others cannot hear it. We conveniently forget that it being so quiet also means we can barely, or may not at all, be able to hear it ourselves. Fortunately, Apple has figured this out, and thus far at least, has ignored this particular request which keeps coming up every few months. Oh, by the way, if you want to muffle VO, but still be able to hear it enough, just place your thumb over the speaker whilst keeping the mic uncovered. The mic is between the headset jack and the lightning port. The speaker is on the other side of the lightning port and goes all the way to the edge. This is, of course, on the 5 and 5S. On the older phones, the mic is on the bottom next to the side with the volume buttons. The speaker is on the other side of the bottom. The 30-pin docking port is in the middle. Re: iPhone behavior during calls without VO
Thanks for the clarification. Yes, I can see the problems that might arise, and yes, I do the speaker muffling trick all the time. :) It seems there are disadvantages to both systems. I think part of it is VO's volume while in a call. RE: Extremely small, clip-on bluetooth speaker
Hello Sieghard, Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner on this speaker. The speaker is a Philips Bluetooth speaker sbt10whi/37. I have used it since X-mas on my iPad and it works very well. It does have a microphone and buttons on it to use with the iPhone for phone calls. It has a very good bass sound. I purchase mine from Walmart for around $19.95 at Christmas time. . There is a little rubber tab out the side where you could put a clip on it to fasten to your collar. Below is a link for the speaker on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Philips-Sbt10-Bluetooth-Speaker-white/dp/B00H39NZQM Ed From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Wednesday, January 22, 2014 1:33 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Extremely small, clip-on bluetooth speaker Hello, Ed (Pinky) recently mentioned a small Bluetooth speaker which he said was from Philips and which apparently is small enough and comes with a clip so it could be clipped to the strap of a backpack or maybe even a coat. I just search Amazon as well as Google for such an item and could not find anything. If you see this message, Ed, or if somebody else knows of an item like this I'd appreciate an exact model name and, if possible, a link for it. I think this could be a nice way to use a GPS app without having to use a headset or an earpiece, sort of like the idea of the small speaker which comes with a Trekker. Re: iPhone behavior during calls without VO
First, I would not use the rotor to set VO volume. The rotor VO volume adjustment currently has a bug where if you go below 35%, VO volume gets stuck and will not go above 35% unless you do a reset of all settings. That said, if you make a call, take the phone away from your ear, do a two-finger swipe up to start reading the entire page, then bring the phone back to your ear, using the volume buttons to change VO volume will then change it relative to the phone volume. Using this method, I have placed VO where I want it for both my earpiece speaker and my speakerphone speaker. Re: iPhone behavior during calls without VO
It usually persists. A few people with 4s reported the setting not being retained. It has always held for me. Is this setting ever lost? Does it persist at all, or do you need to do it per phone call? The rotor VO volume adjustment currently has a bug where if you go below 35%, VO volume gets stuck and will not go above 35% unless you do a reset of all settings. That said, if you make a call, take the phone away from your ear, do a two-finger swipe up to start reading the entire page, then bring the phone back to your ear, using the volume buttons to change VO volume will then change it relative to the phone volume. Using this method, I have placed VO where I want it for both my earpiece speaker and my speakerphone speaker. Yes, I can see the problems that might arise, and yes, I do the speaker muffling trick all the time. :) It seems there are disadvantages to both systems. I think part of it is VO's volume while in a call. That is something Apple must have a hard time getting right, but I often find the speech volume to be shouting while those on the phone are just speaking normally. I know it used to be reversed, and people had a hard time hearing speech at all. Still, I wouldn't mind being able to lower speech volume on the fly. Of course the rotor offers this ability, but while you're trying to adjust things quickly it can be tedious to hunt through all the rotor options to find speech volume. All in ll this isn't something I'm overly worried about, especially now that you've pointed out how people might react. I guess I just like having more settings and less immovable defaults. :) On Jan 23, 2014, at 6:05 PM, David Chittenden dchitten...@gmail.com wrote: Yes, I did say that, and you apparently haven't read the rest of the message about it. Headphones work well, as
RE: Extremely small, clip-on bluetooth speaker
Thanks, Ed. I had a look at this speaker and found th emanual which showed slightly different dimensions than Amazon. I just measured my original Jambox as a comparison and the Philips speaker is about an inch and a half shorter, it's about half an inch taller and more or less the same thickness. The difference in length is about 25% shorter, but the weight is shown only as 120 grams whereas the Jambox weighs almost 350 grams, so almost 3 times as much. In conclusion I would say the size is such that the Philips could be used as a portable speaker mounted on a backpack strap or so, but it's too big and heavy to be clipped on a piece of clothing. It also only has 1.2 Watts output power and there is no volume control on the speaker, you have to change the volume using the iPhone's volume buttons and it's also only Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, not Bluetooth 3.0 let alone 4.0. It's inexpensive, but I think I will continue to keep watch for something truly small and of clip-on size. Failing that I will, at some point in Q2 of this year, hopefully get my Soundband headset which is probably a much better solution anyways. Below is a link for the speaker on Amazon http://www.amazon.com/Philips-Sbt10-Bluetooth-Speaker-white/dp/B00H39NZQM Ed From: viphone@googlegroups.com mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Wednesday, January 22, 2014 1:33 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Extremely small, clip-on bluetooth speaker Hello, Ed (Pinky) recently mentioned a small Bluetooth speaker which he said was from Philips and which apparently is small enough and comes with a clip so it could be clipped to the strap of a backpack or maybe even a coat. Bluetooth of course would be ideal. Regards, Sieghard -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group.
