Re: a question about international iMessage and face time.

2014-05-22 Thread Neil Barnfather - TalkNav
have you checked that you have their iMessage address in correctly.

They will need to be using their iPod Touch with a valid Apple ID, and, that
Apple ID will need to be configured on their device for iMessaging.

Then you will need to ensure that you have that Apple ID e-mail address in your
contact card for that individual.

These steps are the same for FaceTime etc.

Re: AGoGo Question

2014-05-22 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hello,

When listening to a show, pressing the now playing button brings up previous,
next, and play. Doing a double tap and hold on previous and next doesn't fast
forward and rewind though. You can only skip forward and back to other shows.
But, there is sort of a work around for this. From the lock screen, double
tapping and holding on the previous and next buttons found there will indeed
fast forward and rewind through shows. Same thing if using the remote on a
pair of headphones.

someone might convey a recent list of commands for external Bluetooth

I also just received the Amazon Basics keyboard so many on this list are
using, and I really do like it. Smile. I do have a problem with it in
 that
it takes about 25 seconds for my iPod to pickup the Bluetooth signal if I
turn off the keyboard then turn it back on. I listened to Raul's demo, and
his keyboard turned on within 5 seconds or less. Is there a way to
 increase
 the Bluetooth connection time?

I had an interesting shopping experience at Amazon.com. I purchased the
keyboard, and they delivered it the very same day--that's some great
service. I thought it would cost me an arm and a leg, but normal UPS
 ground
delivery was only $1.50 less and would take 3 or 5 days. For same day
delivery, $1.50 more was definitely worth it. I don't know how Amazon.com
could pull this off so quickly, but they did. Must have been one of their
new octo-copters which flew over my house and dropped the thing off.
 Smile.

Again, any help with a list of Bluetooth keyboard commands will be greatly
 appreciated!

Re: Any comparison between android kitkat version on google phones versus Iphone devices

2014-05-22 Thread Mike Arrigo
Both platforms are accessible, but they work differently, it's like
comparing apples and oranges. You can perform all of the major tasks
that you could want on both of them. Android is certainly more
customizable, and you can do things such as replace the system
keyboard, use a different home screen, etc.

iphone 5c, I would go to bed with a battery level of around 50 percent,
and wake up and it would be 35 percent or lower. Here is the issue. If
you use dictation, once you are done, the phone stops translating your
text, but the microphone remains on and continues listening. This will
drain your battery much faster. To get around this until Apple fixes
it, after dictating and receiving your text, hold the home button until
you hear the siri tone. You don't have to say anything to siri, just
wait for the tone then release the home button, that should turn the
microphone off. When doing this, my battery goes down much slower.
Hopefully Apple will fix this soon.

VO stutters on BT headphones

2014-05-22 Thread Øyvind Lode
Hi all:

I have a pair of Philips Fidelio M1BT headphones which is a nice pair of
headphones.
Audio quality is excellent but VO sounds strange.
VO stutters and sometimes no speech at all when I touch the screen or VO speech
is cut off before all text is read.
The strange thing is that VO speech is perfectly normal when I have other audio
streams playing at the same time.
For instance when I listen to music VO sounds perfectly normal on these BT
headphones.
But as soon as I stop music VO is stuttering again.

I'm pretty sure that Philips Fidelio M1BT supports A2DP but I could be wrong.

Is this a typical A2DP problem?

Thanks!

RE: apple tv

2014-05-22 Thread Larry Lumpkin
Hi. You don't need the remote app at all. The apple tv has its own remote
which you can use to turn on voice over in the unit. I think it is three
clicks of the menu button but there is a good podcast on techtalk describing
getting the apple tv going. You go into wi fi settings on the apple tv and
turn it on and connect your network. You connect the little apple tv box to
your tv using an HDMI cable and setting
Your tv to play through this port. If you want sound through a stereo
receiver/sound system, you need a tos link or fiber optic cable. We love
ours and use it all the time to listen to KDFC classical in san Francisco
from here in Texas, smile.

2014-05-22 Thread Patti Johnson
Oh! I see. I did get the hdmi cable or howevery ou spell it; I have 3
ports on the tv to choose from, not sure which to use though.
I didn't think there was a battery in the remote but I got a sighed

So given that there is one maybe I need to work with it some more.
I am still a bit confused a bout how it works on the tv in conjunction

The apple tv doessn't replace your cable box. It just offers you more
entertainment options such as renting/purchasing movies and tv
episodes/series, listening to radio stations, buying or watching movies from
netflicks an many other options.

Did you try going in to settings.
Then go in to notification center.
Next select the app in question that is giving you the notifications.
Next turn off the show on lock screen option.
You might also want to set the notification style to no alerts to see if that
helps.

2014-05-22 Thread Kayaker
Hi,

I suspect you are not using the next track and fast forward properly, and are
in fact hitting the volume up and down buttons. The actions on the Apple ear
buds are as follows:
Next Track: press the play button twice quickly.
Previous Track: Press the play button three times quickly.
Fast forward: Press the play button twice quickly but hold it down.
Rewind: Press the play button three times quickly and hold it down.

You may want to practice on your music app first.

Best,

thought you were suppose to be able to do that, but I can't find any such

Also, I thought there was a quicker way to switch voices on the fly, rather

 am I missing?

I have used the 60 Minutes app, though not in the past month or so. When I

I don't know if it has been changed since then.

 Hi,

I’m looking for the ability to watch SixtyMinutes on my own time.

Does anyone know if the full SixtyMinutes program is on the CBS News app, and
 if the app is accessible?

The SixtyMinutes app is $4.99. Does anyone have it or know if it’s
accessible? Also, do you know if it’s an annual charge or a one-time
purchase. It wasn’t clear from the iTunes Store description.

 Thanks. Keith

Play controls are definitely an area where we need to improve. I was looking

But, there is sort of a work around for this. From the lock screen, double

fast forward and rewind through shows. Same thing if using the remote on a

Now try to update, instead of doing this from the app store, you may just
have to doiuble tap on whichever app or apps didn't work before.
If this doesn't work just wait until tomorrow and try again, it could just
be a temporary issue with the app store.

RE: List of Bluetooth keyboard commands for iOS

2014-05-22 Thread Alan Lemly
The following web page by Ed Summers and Diane Brauner has an excellent iOS
VoiceOver and iOS quick reference guide including bluetooth keyboard
commands:

http://support.sas.com/misc/accessibility/education/ios/quickref.html

It is current as of November 26, 2012 and iOS 6.01 and is very well laid
out.

 Hi all,

I just finished going over about 14 pages of the AppleVis podcast and
 forum
entries regarding Bluetooth keyboards. Though I found some good leads, it
appears lots of the information goes back quite a bit in time. I'm hoping
someone might convey a recent list of commands for external Bluetooth
keyboards on iOS 7. Does such a list of commands exist?

I also just received the Amazon Basics keyboard so many on this list are
using, and I really do like it. Smile. I do have a problem with it in
 that
it takes about 25 seconds for my iPod to pickup the Bluetooth signal if I
turn off the keyboard then turn it back on. I listened to Raul's demo,
 and
his keyboard turned on within 5 seconds or less.

 Smile.

Again, any help with a list of Bluetooth keyboard commands will be
 greatly
 appreciated!

First thing I would do is close all apps from the app switcher and restart

Now try to update, instead of doing this from the app store, you may just
have to doiuble tap on whichever app or apps didn't work before.
If this doesn't work just wait until tomorrow and try again, it could just
be a temporary issue with the app store.

Re: keyboard questions

2014-05-22 Thread Ioana Gandrabur
Hi,

Not sure I understand the first question. The keyboard only goes to sleep
after not using it for a long time, independent of wether one is on a call or
not. However, if the phone is at your ear it stops accepting commands because
it blocks the touch screen. With headphones or on speaker the keyboard and
other ways to operate the phone will work.

Juice packs are as far as I know battery cases that extend the battery life of
your phone.

You can change the default voiceover voice in settings, general, accessibility,
voiceover, language and dialects.

Hope this answers your questions.

Best,

Ioana

Re: Bluetooth Pairing Problem With iPod Touch and BrailleNote Apex

2014-05-22 Thread Alex Hall
The following are last resorts, but they should work. They are final options
because both result in removing some application data. You can get it back in
both cases, and it is not personal data, but it can still be annoying.

1. Do a network settings reset.
Reset the Apex and put it in bluetooth terminal mode, then leave it. On the
iPod, go to settings, general, reset, reset network settings. Go through the
confirmations, and let it do its thing. Once all network settings are reset,
try pairing again.

2. Ram Reset the Apex.
If you still have problems, do a 1-2-3 reset on the Apex. This will delete all
extra programs (Dictionary, Sendero GPS, and Nemeth Tutorial). You can get them
back, but you'll need to do so by re-downloading them, and the files can be
quite large.

Re: Hang up calls

My experience agrees with Anna. I'm running the latest IOS 7 on a 4S. If
I hold the phone up to my head, I can pull it away from my head and use

locked in this case.

If I'm using headphones then the screen locks and the two finger double

usually just use the controls on my headset in this case.

Re: VO stutters on BT headphones

2014-05-22 Thread Christopher J Chaltain
I don't have these headphones, but it sounds like they're being pretty
aggressive with their energy saving and shutting down whenever they
don't detect a stream coming in. This would explain why VO is normal
whenever you already have a stream playing, but cuts in and out when you
don't. In my experience, this used to be pretty common place with
bluetooth headphones, but seems to have gotten better over time. Maybe
with better batteries and more efficient bluetooth protocols (such as
4.0) devices don't need to be as aggressive in energy saving and
prolonging the battery.

For instance when I listen to music VO sounds perfectly normal on

But as soon as I stop music VO is stuttering again.

I'm pretty sure that Philips Fidelio M1BT supports A2DP but I could be

Is this a typical A2DP problem?

RE: apple tv

2014-05-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Patty,

As Larry already pointed out, the Apple TV gives you access to iTunes for
renting and buying movies and if you are a Netflix subscriber then it's
probably the nicest and most accessible way to consume Netflix content. It's
also great for Youtube.

If your TV has multiple HDMI inputs you do have to be able to select these
depending on what you want to watch. For example, let's assume you have your
cable box connected to HDMI 1, a blueray DVD player to HDMI 2 and your Apple
TV to HDMI 3, then you do have to be able to select your input on the TV
depending on what you want to watch. Often this is done via a single button
which invokes a menu on the TV and you then have to arrow to the
input/source you want and select it. This may not be the most accessible
thing to do, but you would have to maybe aska sighted friend or family
member to help you with this.

Now, as for the Apple TV, had you posted to the list that you were looking
to get one I would have advised you to wait until Monday, June 2. This is
when Apple will have it's world wide developer conference and when iOS 8
will be introduced.
There are a lot of rumours according to which Apple may announce the next
generation Apple TV during this event and that it will be much more
advanced. There will most likely be an app store for the Apple TV which
means you can get apps for various services and maybe games and so on and
the talk is also that the Apple TV may very well become a complete
replacement for your current set top box.
There are also rumours that the Apple TV will have SIRI and that the remote
may accept voice commands.
Now, having said all this, they are of course rumours and I guess we'll find
out in a week and a half if any of them are true. Did you purchase your
Apple TV from Apple directly? If so you probably have time to return it
should something really cool be announced. If not at least the apple TV only
costs $99 which is not so much compared to what most other Apple devices
cost.

RE: AGoGo Question

2014-05-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Robert,

Keith mentioned Voice Dreamreader among a couple of others. I was going to
suggest it as well because I think their implementation is very smart. In Voice
Dreamreader if, for example, I am listening to an audio book, I have a
navigation control and flicking up or down let’s me switch between 15 seconds,
30 seconds and 60 seconds as well as chapter. So I select by what unit I want
to jump forward or back and then I just swipe to the left once which puts me
back on the Play/Pause button and I can now just use the same swipe up or swipe
down gesture to jump forward or back by the interval I set.

I guess in the case of AgoGo instead of chapter you could have Episode or
whatever you want to call it and of course some time intervals.

Voice Dreamreader furthermore has a progress indicator which shows the
percentage of where you are currently at. For example, if I have a chapter of
an audio book which is an hour long and I am 20 minutes into the chapter, the
indicator would tell me that I am at 33%. I can flick up or down and change
this by 5% or I can double tap and hold on the progress indicator and a little
numeric pad comes up and I can type in an exact percentage, say I want to go
back to 23% I just type 23 and then tap Done.

Similarly the Play/Pause button in addition to letting me adjust the playback
position by my preset interval allows me to set the sleep timer. I double tap
and hold on it and up comes the sleep timer with some preset time periods like
15, 30, 45 etc. minutes as well as an edit field where I could, if I wanted,
type in 27 to set it for 27 minutes.

I think the way the Voice Dreamreader developer has done this is fantastic,
very efficient and I have not seen this much functionality anywhere else.

Sieghard

Hi, Sieghard. I've actually done what you've suggested a few times.
Currently there are three updates I cannot execute, and the phone has
been behaving this way since the 16th of this month.
The odd thing is, one of the apps will not even uninstall from the
move-editing screen. Bit of a head scratcher.
All the best, Brain

If this doesn't work just wait until tomorrow and try again, it could just

RE: a bug in I O S 7

2014-05-22 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Mike,

Thank you for posting this. You know, I discovered this bug and mentioned
it on this list some time ago only I perceived it as being a volume glitch
in, so much as when the microphone is active, so to speak, VoiceOver volume
decreases, slightly. The solution you posted does work well and it is the
one I will use until this bug has been squashed. .

My original solution was to open the Music app and begin playing a song for
1 second. This always restored the volume to its original level. I had no
idea, until reading your post to this list on this matter, that the decrease
in volume was because of an active microphone. After reading this post, I
now realize that by playing a song, I was inadvertently disabling the
microphone.

I'm glad Apple is aware of this; thanks again.

In The Journey,

Mark

Hey everyone, a friend of mine told me about a bug he read about, and I can
confirm that it does exist. Perhaps this will help if you use the dictation
feature. I had actually noticed something interesting on my iphone 5c, I
would go to bed with a battery level of around 50 percent, and wake up and
it would be 35 percent or lower. Here is the issue. If you use dictation,
once you are done, the phone stops translating your text, but the microphone
remains on and continues listening. This will drain your battery much
faster. To get around this until Apple fixes it, after dictating and
receiving your text, hold the home button until you hear the siri tone. You
don't have to say anything to siri, just wait for the tone then release the
home button, that should turn the microphone off. When doing this, my
battery goes down much slower.
Hopefully Apple will fix this soon.

I bought it from Best Buy and it was a few dollars off the regular price.

Well, I guess I'll just ha ve to have some one help me know which port

So does this mean I ha ve to change the menu back when I want to watch

Thanks for everyone's help, I'm sure I'll get there with this thing.

probably the nicest and most accessible way to consume Netflix content. It's

If not at least the apple TV only
costs $99 which is not so much compared to what most other Apple devices
cost.

You should also notice a difference in battery life. I never had the volume

decreases, slightly.

That's only when Quick Nav is on. The OP is asking about commands when Quick

RE: aftershokz headphones

2014-05-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Christine,

A Bluetooth headset or speaker cutting out is typically more a result of its
connection to the phone. If, for example, you put on a Bluetooth headset and
then clamp your phone under your armpit most of them cut out because your
body, which is 70% water, blocks the signal.

It's a good idea to know if the Bluetooth modem in the headset is on the
left or on the right and then to keep your phone on the same side.

Bluetooth 3.0 and 4.0 devices are to some degree dealing with this, but it
could still be an issue.

Now, as for the Apple TV, had you posted to the list that you were
looking to get one I would have advised you to wait until Monday, June
 2. This is when Apple will have it's world wide developer conference
and when iOS 8 will be introduced.
There are a lot of rumours according to which Apple may announce the
next generation Apple TV during this event and that it will be much
more advanced. There will most likely be an app store for the Apple TV
which means you can get apps for various services and maybe games and
so on and the talk is also that the Apple TV may very well become a
complete replacement for your current set top box.
There are also rumours that the Apple TV will have SIRI and that the
 remote may accept voice commands.
Now, having said all this, they are of course rumours and I guess
we'll find out in a week and a half if any of them are true. Did you
purchase your Apple TV from Apple directly? If so you probably have
time to return it should something really cool be announced. If not at
least the apple TV only costs $99 which is not so much compared to
what most other Apple devices cost.

 Regards,
 Sieghard

Oh! I see. I did get the hdmi cable or howevery ou spell it; I have
3 ports on the tv to choose from, not sure which to use though.
I didn't think there was a battery in the remote but I got a sighed
friend to look at that and she said there is.
So given that there is one maybe I need to work with it some more.
I am still a bit confused a bout how it works on the tv in conjunction
with cable, does it overide the box, do I need to switch menus on the tv?

Hi. You don't need the remote app at all. The apple tv has its own
 remote
which you can use to turn on voice over in the unit. I think it is
three clicks of the menu button but there is a good podcast on
 techtalk
 describing
getting the apple tv going. You go into wi fi settings on the apple
 tv
 and
turn it on and connect your network. You connect the little apple tv
 box
 to
your tv using an HDMI cable and setting
Your tv to play through this port. If you want sound through a
stereo receiver/sound system, you need a tos link or fiber optic
cable. We love ours and use it all the time to listen to KDFC
classical in san Francisco from here in Texas, smile.

Hello. I just got mine yesterday. I hooked it up but not sure I did
 it correctly.
I downloaded the remote app and it said to sync with your computer,
 but
 when
I did I couldnt' find anywhere on the Itues after hooking my phone up
 to
 the
computer anything about the remote or Apple TV.
I know there is a code to put in, it gave me one then another; so I
 will
 put
the first one in when I figure how. I just want to know how this is
 supposed to work

Hi, and if you don't want one with zits, then go to amazon and find the
halo screen protectors. They are very good, protect well and you can
choose between a glossy or a matte finish.

I'd check out the tactile screen protectors from http://speeddots.com/
You'll get a screen protector plus some tactile markings which may help
you navigating the screens.

Hi. I'm getting a mophie juice pack plus for my 5s and would like a

prefer one of plastic like that which comes with the otterbox. Thanks.
