RE: Office Mobile for iPhone
Hello Joseph, Office Mobile for iPhone is not intended to be used as an email client. However, you may use the native iOS app to access your Microsoft email account. When Microsoft first launched Office Mobile for iPhone, using the app required an Office 365 subscription. Microsoft has since removed that restriction and now offers the app for free. Keep in mind that you will need a free and/or paid Microsoft account in order to use Office Mobile for iPhone but I suspect that many of us who use any of the Microsoft cloud services already have one. Upon launching the app for the first time, you will find a rather inaccessible introductory tutorial. To bypass this one-time screen, simply perform a three-finger right-to-left swipe several times until you get to the last page. Then, touch near the center of the screen to place focus on the Get Started button which is read correctly by VoiceOver. Once you sign into the app, you will find that it is not the most VoiceOver friendly suite. Be that as it may, it is somewhat usable/accessible. To be honest, I'm not certain if I'm going to keep Office Mobile for iPhone installed on my device as Pages is much more VoiceOver accessible. I just wanted to pass this information on to you. Re: Getting OOTunes Recordings to a PC
Hi Bill, I'm not exactly sure of the type of information you are requesting, but if you want access to a file created by an app on your iOS device, or if you want to save iOS files to your desktop, try this... 1. Attach iDevice to computer. 2. Launch iTunes if it is not automatically opened. 3. Using your tab key, work your way over to the sources tree view then navigate to and highlight your iOS device by using down arrow keys. 4. Once your iOS device has been highlighted, tab to the Apps radio button tab. Press the spacebar to check it. Wait about 30 seconds for iTunes to gather related information. 5. Press Shift+F6 about 7 times or until you reach the Apps tree view. This is a list containing all the apps which you can use to move files to and from your desktop and iOS device. 6. You can now select an app for which you want to either add files from your computer, or save files from your iOS device to your computer. You select an app by using your up or down arrow keys. Keep in mind that this step merely selects the app of interest. 7. Once you have selected your app of interest, simply tab once to access the list of files associated with the app. For example, if you selected the Numbers app in the previous step, this step will show you all of the files associated with Numbers. You need only press down arrow to select a file. 8. After having selected a file, to move the file to your desktop press the tab key until you find the following item then press enter: Save to... 9. Type in a path such as c:\iOSTransfers\ and press enter. 10. The file will be saved to your desktop's hard drive in the folder you selected. 11. If you want to reverse the process and take a file from your desktop and move it into your iOS device, simply follow the previous steps 1 through 6. 12. Now tab to Add... and press Enter. 13. You can use this dialogue to type in an exact path such as c:\Documents\Phone numbers.txt and press enter, or you can use this dialogue to manually find and select the file on your desktop. 14. After the file has been saved to your iOS device press shift+Tab to insure the file has been placed in the list of files associated with the app. 15. This is a very important step, tab to the sync button and press the spacebar to complete the sync. ITunes will normally play a sound when the process has completed. 16. The file(s) should now be on your iDevice. 17. Now that you are finished, you can press Alt+F4 to close iTunes. Yes, I do agree that this tutorial is wordy, but I wanted to be thrurough. Smile. Oh yeah, don't forget that you can also look for iDevice related files in the following folder(s): C:\Users\[your name]\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media\ Please let me know if you have any problems at all. Assuming this is the case, please keep the following in mind: When launching the native Mail app, the email account last used is in focus. So, in order to see all of the email accounts setup in Mail, from within the app, find and activate the Back button located near the upper left corner of the display. Jambox Not Working
I have had my small jam box speaker since they came out; that is a couple of years now? This morning, I took it off charging and it is not working. I just get a fuzzy squealing sound. I have checked that the eye device is working with another Bluetooth device. I have tried unpairing and re-pairing with no success. It will go into demo mode and does say the device is fully charged. Is there any sort of reset on the speaker itself or combination of buttons to totally reset it? Any other suggestions? All thanks! Re: A weird e-mail situation.
Hi. Do you have any mail rules applied to your messages? If you have rules that you set up in your computer's mail client, those won't apply to your iphone, obviously. Once you set up filters in Gmail on the Gmail website, this problem should go away, and your rule will be active across your devices. You'll need to create a filter on the Gmail site that will put the ViPhone or whichever name you choose for a label on messages from this list. Safari will download some file types but not others. It will play many media types, and it works with pdf files. I haven't tried it with text files. Generally, though, a file downloader app like filer or downloads would work much better for this purpose. For example, last night I downloaded a pdf image with downloads and it prompted me to open it with a list of apps. I chose Prizmo and OCR-d it. That worked out better than I anticipated. Re: aftershokz bluz help
I assume these are the second generation, with the controls on the right arm instead of all on the piece that goes around your neck. 1. On the underside of the right arm, from front to back, you'll find a button, followed by a covered charging port, then a volume rocker with a dot on the up volume. Press and hold the first button for five seconds to turn the Bluez on or off. 2. On the left side, there is a triangular button on the outside of the sound pad (what, on regular headphones, you'd think of as the speaker). This button is play/pause if pressed once, and fast forward if pressed twice. It also answers or ends a call if pressed once when the iPhone is ringing or a call is in progress. Press and hold it to switch sound presets, or wait twenty seconds after any audio, then press and hold it to bring up Siri. Re: adding phone numbers to contacts from the recent tab
Yes, there certainly is. find the number you want to add, then flick right. You should see a button that says more information. Tap on this button, now, you will see several bits of information. flick right, until you see add to existing contact. then tap that. your contact list will come up. you then have to find the contact you want to add the number to. Either find the index, and flick up or down, until you come to the letter the name starts with, or just put it into the search field. once you have found the contact, then tap on the contact. It will populate one of the phone fields with the number you're wanting to add. You will probably want to change the label. E.G. home, mobile, fax, work, main, ETC. once you've done that, look for the done button, and tap that. this should close out the phone contacts, and it should be added. I always go back into my phone's contacts group, and make sure it did.. I just always like to be sure that it took. Maybe a biit much, but that's me. RE: aftershokz bluz help
The iPhone will route the call to whichever device you use to accept it. For example, if you have a Bluetooth headset connected, Aftershokz or other, and you answer the call on the iPhone by using a 2-finger double tap or by double tapping the Answer button, the call will be on the iPhone’s earpiece rather than the Bluetooth headset. You have to use the headset controls to answer the call if you want it to go to your headset. I really like this feature because it means that even though I might use a Bluetooth speaker, I can still answer a call on the phone if I don’t want it to come through the speaker where other people can hear it and I can do so without turning off the speaker. Voicedream Reader and Audible
Hello, Just as Richard I agree that Voicedream Reader is a very impressive app although I use it mostly to listen to MP3 audio books. I was thinking the other day that it would be pretty cool if you could listen to Audible books with Voicedream reader as well and I'll suggest it to the developer. The Audible app is super accessible, but I wonder why they labelled the previous and next chapter buttons so strangely in their last update. I also still think that the way Voicedream handles navigation when you are playing a book is brilliant although I also will suggest that the developer ads a 5 minute interval to the Navigation control. The Voicedream sleep timer also is nicely done, once again, it would be even better if there were an option to reset the timer to whichever time interval you chose within 30 seconds or so before it runs out. I used to have a little Sleep Timer app which worked for anything playing in the Music app and in this app you could specify a timer interval (10 seconds, 30 seconds and I think 1 minute) and also select a tone to notify you. Then the tone you selected would play for the time interval you specified before the timer ran out and simply pressing the volume up or down buttons would reset your timer. The available tones were very quiet and designed not to wake you up if you actually had fallen asleep. Maybe the Audible option is not possible right now, but with the new extensibility concept Apple announced for iOS 8 it may very well be possible. You might still need the Audible app to download your book, but then whatever is downloaded to your device might be accessible from other apps. Voice Dream is the best. I always download files such as movies or TV shows with DVS from my NAS via the File Browser app and have them open in VD and don't' even bother with iTunes on my PC. For a TV series or a movie franchise, I'll zip them and import them. Voice Dream will treat every track like a chapter in an audiobook. Yes, you download from Send Space. I think I forgot a step. Turn the rotor to links and double tap on the movie title link. There is an unlabeled button that you have to double tap which is the privacy agreement. Then, on that next screen, keep flicking down until you get to the download link which will show the file name at the end of the link info. Then, double tap and hold and select copy from the pop up menu. Paste that into Voice Dream web browser. Fwd: Transferring Files To and From Your Device
I'm just reposting these excellent instructions with a different subject so that they will be easier to search and reference. The oonly editing I did was to change the topic and trim the message. Thanks again, Joseph, for posting this. Teresa Begin forwarded message: Hi Bill, I'm not exactly sure of the type of information you are requesting, but if you want access to a file created by an app on your iOS device, or if you want to save iOS files to your desktop, try this... RE: Getting OOTunes Recordings to a PC
Hello Bill and list, you've received a lot of responses to this thread, but they are all talking about iTunes file sharing. This is not applicable to Ootunes as the files are not accessible through iTunes file sharing. When I said that they are backed up in iTunes, I meant that literally; recordings are only stored in iTunes backups. In Windows, these are at c:\users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup. Unfortunately the tree structure of file names and folders is obfuscated, but if you can't determine what the file is yourself, you can use a program like iBackup Bot or iPhone Backup Extractor to show you the actual tree structure of backups and allow you to extract files from them. Some of this information was provided to me by the Ootunes developer a few years back. Re: aftershokz bluz help
Oh, sorry. In that case, you pretty much have it down already. Press and hold the volume buttons to skip back (volume down) or forward (volume up), and, I think, press and hold the right button during a call to mute. Hold down the right button for Siri, I believe. Aside from that, there is not much else to it. The volume buttons only speak the battery level if no audio has played for a while. Um, there is no way they can know what is wrong with your iPhone. If you tell them symptoms, they will give you advice which will help the most common problems that said symptoms represent. If their suggestions do not work, call back and report what happened. Then, they can suggest something else to attempt. If you want your iDevice to be completely accurately diagnosed, your only option is to take it to a qualified technician who can fully test the device. The Apple Store is the place to go for such assessing. By the way, the advice Apple Support gave you is the same initial advice I would give you based on what you said is wrong. Re: Appe care support often wrong
I had a similar situation, I called AppleCare support for disabilities, and they said to reset the phone. I already done so… turned out there was something wrong with the equivalent of a motherboard. I don't know what they call it for Apple products. I turned my old phone in, and received a new 5S from the insurance company of ATT. having worked as a technical support representative with non-Apple products, I did all the troubleshooting I could do, and called the Apple support line as my last resort. I too, would agree with David. Resetting the phone would be the first thing that I would try doing. Then I would try a full restore. If this does not work, it's indicative that the hardware is the problem… Not the software. Some significant misinformation. Insights? Hi, Using an iPhone 5 with latest iOS and Blindsquare. Took a loop around my neighborhood tonight. I love the directional information, intersection information, and approximate street address information. There were at least 3 POI announcements that were quite wrong. The first told me it was 60 feet at 5 o’clock; in reality, it was about 2 blocks at 7 o’clock. Another was announced as 70 feet at 2 o’clock; in reality, it was 2 blocks at 9 o’clock. Another was announced as 80 feet at 7 o’clock; in reality it was about 2 ½ blocks at 2 o’clock. Is there a calibration or something I may have missed? But, again, all announced directional information was correct, as were intersections announced and approximate street addresses. One other question. I like the several announcements of “you have walked x miles in y minutes.” Is there a way to have such announcements repeated? I missed the last one because someone was talking to me, and I was interested how far I had walked in what time during this loop. Thanks in advance. Hello! Andy, and list: As many of us who use the iPhone know the iPhone has a default weather app on it called weather widget. I currently myself use the iPhone 5. It has 30 GB storage space, and I not only use the weather widget but I also use the weather network app as well which is very good. I just typed in the App Store weather apps and went down through the list and found the weather network I believe it's called TW and weather app. I hope this helps as it is a free weather app. Sincerely! Re: looking for a good weather app for receiving weather alerts whereever I am on my iPhone
Hi Paul and others, Regarding great weather apps, try this one below as it is very accessible. It will show you the current weather at your location, but what I feel is it's greatest strength is that one can add new cities then use a three finger swipe to the right or left to move back and forth between cities of interest. I like entering only the cities for which I want to read weather since I will not have to skip through unwanted information for other cities. The app also continuously updates itself so you will always have current weather on the first line of the screen. Like most weather apps, exact measurement of current weather will vary due to many variables. This app is only $1, so well worth the cost even if you don't end up liking it. Re: Voicedream Reader and Audible
Hi Sighard, You're welcome to suggest it, but Voice Dream Reader plays no protected content, so I would be really surprised if there was any way it could play books from Audible. Best, Anna On Jun 28, 2014, at 11:12 AM, Sieghard Weitzel siegh...@live.ca wrote: Hello, Just as Richard I agree that Voicedream Reader is a very impressive app although I use it mostly to listen to MP3 audio books. HI all, I've just discovered a cool little feature within the Fahrenheit app which I did not mention in my previous post. If one reads through the forecast for the next few days, if you want to read more details about the weather on a specific day, simply double-tap on the day, and right under the day you will get more detail about the weather relating to possible chance of rain and such. Double-tap once again to hide the additional information. RE: Appe care support often wrong
Hi David, Out of curiocity, when you say they suggested a reset what exactly do you mean? Did they ask you to hold the power and home key together to reset the phone or did they ask you to go to Settings, General, Reset and select a complete factory reset? Anyhow, what I really would like to know is what sort of additional problems a reset caused and also what exactly your problem with the speaker was? One thing that Apple support will always ask you to do if nothing else helps and before they ask you to send the phone in to be repaired or replaced (not an option for a 4S at this point) is to do a complete factory reset. This means a reset without restoring from a backup as issues could also be restored or a problem might be caused by a particular app etc. I am speaking in general terms here, but in my experience a reset typically will not introduce more problems than those you already have unless it is something which has to do with the version of iOS, i.e. you might run a version of iOS 6 for whatever and of course if you do a factory restore of your phone it will be upgraded to whichever is the latest version of iOS the phone supports which in the case of the 4S is the newest version of iOS 7. RE: Took Blindsquare for its first walkaround. Some significant misinformation. Insights?
That is correct, the latest update mentioned that Blindsquare now uses GPS exclusively when you are moving to determine your direction. Keep in mind that “when you are moving” is the key. GPS cannot determine your direction when you stand still. For example, let’s assume you are walking along a street and that you are going straight North. Blindsquare will accurately inform you of this as long as you are moving. If you stop and turn 180 degrees so that now you are facing south, Blindsquare will not know this based on GPS until you actually start walking again and the satellites can track your direction. RE: Voicedream Reader and Audible
Hi Anna, I will definitely suggest it and I don't think it would be that hard to do since Audible is pretty keen on giving access to their content. There are a lot of devices out there which can play Audible books. A Victorreader Stream, for example, can do so because you would use the Audible Manager for the PC to download the books and authenticate that you are allowed to play them and then transfer them to your Stream. In a similar way Voicedream Reader could be allowed to play Audible books if the book was downloaded into the Audible app and Voicedream Reader could access content that is in Audible. It would basically just be an alternative player for the books and if the Audible app is required anyways I don't think Audible would care too much about that. Of course this would or could mean as well that maybe one day one could use Voicedream Reader to listen to Kindl books if the book is downloaded into the Kindl app and Voicedream Reader could get access to that content. Once again, this is just a bit of guesswork on my part based on the fact that Apple is starting to open things up a bit more and I bet that if enough people ask the developers for things like that then they are motivated to make it work. Hello Hope and Brian, I don't use invoicing apps myself and can't speak for the accessibility of them, but Below is a link to an article about an app called Invoice2Go which you may find useful.
