Another way which works well is to use the same apple id and set up
her own ICloud account. By doing this you both have access to the same

All,

How do I tag someone in a post, not a video or photo but a post?
I want to tag them and have their name appear in the middle of a sentence: For
example—I want to thank John Smith for ...

That, I think, means I would tag John Smith. Is this correct; if so, how do you
do it so their name shows up where you want it to?
If there is another alternative, let me know.

Thanks all.

RE: an itunes question

2015-11-03 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Larry,

That would mean you both use the same Apple Id for purchases (songs, movies,
apps etc.) Of course if you use the same Apple Id then whatever payment method
is on file gets used.

This is no problem, but I’d make sure you turn off automatic downloads
otherwise as soon as your wife buys an app on her device it would automatically
download on your device as well.

This is under Settings > iTunes and App Store and you can turn on/off automatic
downloads for music, apps, books and updates.

You would probably also want to make sure your wife sets up her own Apple Id
and that she uses that to sign in to Facetime and iMessage with otherwise if
you use the same Apple Id for that, you would both get iMessages sent to each
others phone number or registered emails.

Alternatively, you could turn on Family Sharing and add your wife, then if she
buys anything with her own Apple Id it will be automatically charged to the
credit card on file for your account unless she buys an iTunes Gift Card and
redeems it under her Apple Id. If you put a gift card balance on your account
and she buys something, it will still be charged on the credit card and not to
your gift card balance as gift card balances belong to whichever account they
were redeemed under.

Of course she can download any apps you previously purchased and which have
family sharing without having to pay again.

In a way I think using family sharing is a better solution than to share the
same Apple Id especially since you really do need separate Apple Id’s for
iMessage and Facetime. Of course there might be the odd app which doesn’t allow
for family sharing and in that case if she downloaded such an app you would pay
a second time.

Regards,

Sieghard

Re: T-Mobile’s network extender lets anyone use your Internet bandwidth

I wonder what the difference is between the previous router and a normal
wifi router? I suppose TMobile's has some kind of quality of service built
in to prioritize your connection for calls to go through, where most of the
modem/gateways I've had only do that by device or wired port.

But the router is different than this new thing that they are just now
coming out with. At least that was my understanding from everything I've
read thus far.

You can lock down the service to your own phones if you want or leave it

using bandwidth which depends on how much bandwidth you have total

The only way then is to purchase the music from the iTunes Store then it
will become available in iCloud automatically with iTunes in the cloud.
Otherwise you will have to pay for either iTunes Match or Apple Music in
which they both allow you to upload and listen to your collection from
the cloud.

Let me make sure I understand; hit the at sign, type the name, when I find the
one I want, tap it and then hit the at sign again?

Why do you hit it a second time?

Hello Paul, you can simply type the@sign, followed by a few characters of their
first or last name. Once done this, suggestions will start to pop up what you
can double tap on to tag those people. Once you tap on the suggestion, we'll
simply have to type B@again.

Re: ICloud & Music

2015-11-03 Thread Christina C.
hmmm, don’t you just have to turn iCloud on for apple music? The whole thing is
a bit confusing to me but all I know is that I turned iCloud on in iTunes on my
Mac and my music was available on my iPhone which has iCloud music turned on as
well. I also turned it on on my apple TV. I doubt I was any help but that was
just my experience.

2015-11-03 Thread joseph hudson
No, this say who you are with function is a totally different thing. I was
teaching you how to tag somebody, with that like mentioning them on Facebook. I
didn't realize you wanted to say who you were with because you didn't specify.
Because there's two different ways of tagging people. There's mentioning them,
and there's saying who you are with. Is that what you're wanting to do?

How to deal with call waiting.

2015-11-03 Thread Matthew Bullis
OK, so I can't test this now, and haven't received a second call on my work
iPhone to have known how this works, but I thought I'd ask. Since I'm getting
my personal iPhone, how will I deal with call waiting when the phone is at my
ear? Must I lower the handset to switch to speaker so the controls are visible?
Then do I have to flick through, or can I simply two finger double tap to
switch calls, and again to switch back? Primarily I will be conversing on a
bluetooth headset, so I may just be able to click a button on that headset to
accomplish this, but I thought I'd ask now, before the situation comes up. I
know that if the phone is at your ear and you click the power button the phone
will hang up, but will this then activate the other call and back again?
Thanks,
Matthew

Using Facebook app or on the web!

2015-11-03 Thread 'Carol Pearson' via VIPhone
I read a tip the other day about being able to use Facebook on the web, rather
than the app itself, because (it appeared) there were less resources needed for
the web. Has anyone any comments to make on whether this is true, and whether
in fact the web version therefore works better on the iPhone than the app
itself? Thanks for any comments!

Hello Paul, you can simply type the@sign, followed by a few characters of their
first or last name. Once done this, suggestions will start to pop up what you
can double tap on to tag those people. Once you tap on the suggestion, we'll
simply have to type B@again.

No, this say who you are with function is a totally different thing. I was
teaching you how to tag somebody, with that like mentioning them on Facebook. I
didn't realize you wanted to say who you were with because you didn't specify.
Because there's two different ways of tagging people. There's mentioning them,

Re: ICloud & Music

2015-11-03 Thread Christina C.
No, I am not paying for iTunes Match. On my phone when I first set up apple
music I was asked if I wanted to use iCloud and I said, yes. Then when I was on
my Mac setting up apple music in iTunes I was asked the same question and I
opted to use iCloud. I was shocked to find music on my iPhone from CD’s that I
burned to my Mac. I will have to investigate further to see if they are all
included or if some are excluded. When I saw that my burned CD’s ended up on my
iPhone I double checked to make sure that I was not accidentally playing for
iTunes Match. I am not. Maybe I just got lucky and it was some kind of mistake?

The music on your phone, where did you get it from? if it’s apple music than it
should show up on your apple TV if you opt to use iCloud in apple music.

Re: ICloud & Music

2015-11-03 Thread Daniel Miller
Hi Christina,

It’s not a mistake. Apple Music incorporates the matching functionality of
iTunes Match, but with some caveats. If you don’t pay for iTunes Match, and you
download a copy of a song it matched with the apple music catalog, the copy you
download can only be played on that specific device, as opposed to being able
to be copied and played with a 3rd party program.

Hello Paul, you can simply type the@sign, followed by a few characters of
their first or last name. Once done this, suggestions will start to pop up what
you can double tap on to tag those people. Once you tap on the suggestion,
we'll simply have to type B@again.

Hello Matthew, on the iPhone switching causes a breeze. When a call comes in
obviously you have the hold in except button, you can double tap that and it
will take you to the next caller. When switching back and forth, if you hide
the key pad there is a swamp button. He will use this button to go from call to
call. I hope this works for you.

Hi, Sighard:

First of all, I certainly did contact CBC complaining of this issue. Below,
please find the steps to the news.
1. With the app launched, ensure BC is set in the sections section.
2. Scroll past the items in the news you can read, you will see photos section,
then British Columbia videos.
3. If it works, you will see news with Andrew Chang at 6:00 pm

I am not receiving this, only The national live. The odd thing is that the
local Vancouver news I want is available at 7 pm, right after the live
broadcast finishes but this didn’t happen until a couple days ago.

For those of you with new Apple TVs. No clue if any of this is actually
voiceover accessible. But here you go.

Re: New Apple Navigation app

2015-11-03 Thread Courtney Curran
Hi,
It's a shame this indoor navigation app that apple is developing will only be
available for larger venues, because those of us in smaller towns won't be able
to take advantage of this technology. I don't know how this would work, but I
think there should be an indoor navigation app where you put each point in
manually, then when you navigate to that point again, a notification would pop
up and alert you that you are near a previously marked point. For example, one
would go to the mall and mark the stores they visit, and the next time they go
to the mall, they'd get an alert when they walk near that store. Another way
this could work without the venue having indoor navigation software installed
would be maybe through the camera somehow. I'm not an app developer by any
means, so I don't know if or how this could possibly work, it's just an idea.

Re: 5 hidden remote touchpad tricks will make you an Apple TV expert

2015-11-03 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Dan,
I will be curious to know how many of these work with voiceover. Particularly
the flying across the screen to get from one end of the typing alphabet to the
other. It seems like that would be very hit and miss for us. Really hoping for
Bluetooth keyboard support. I don't have an Apple TV, so I cannot test any of
this out. That is I don't have a new one.

RE: ICloud & Music

2015-11-03 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You don't have to have your music in the cloud for that. As long as you have
the music on your computer and you turn on home sharing you can play the music
that is on your computer via your Apple TV. Of course the computer has to be on
and iTunes has to be open.

Does anyone know if a way exists to add all the music that is on my IPhone to
the Cloud other than by using ITunes Match? I don't want to pay for that
service. I just want to be able to listen to my music on the Apple TV.

Okay, that's something there's two types of tagging. They're saying who you're
with, and there is actually mentioning somebody in your post. Know which one
you want to do, would it be indication for me to know. Do you want instructions

Re: T-Mobile’s network extender lets anyone use your Internet bandwidth

2015-11-03 Thread Mary Otten
That's interesting, because this particular publication usually does a very
good job. And they were going out of their way to say that unlike the other
companies, this device didn't allow for any sort of security via passwords or
whatever. These devices are not actually available yet, right? So how do you
know that it can be locked down?
