User twitter and Direct messages notifications suddenly turn off

2016-01-24 Thread Gerardo Corripio
Anyone have happen that you suddenly stop receiving Twitter Direct Messages and
Users' notifications? I go and check the iPhone's official Twitter app, and the
User Tweets sommmehow have deactivated; though the Direct Messages notification
says it's still on, turning it off and on, generally solved the problem with
receiving DMs again, and turning on the User Tweets resumes the notifications.
Do you think it's the most recent Twitter app update, or the 9.2.1 iOS update?
Anyone experiencing these Twitter annoyances? I'm using an iPhone 4S if this
has something to do, though I'm almost certain it doesn't. Thanks for info.

Re: Kindle once more

2016-01-24 Thread Mary Otten
He does not have to buy a Kindle. He can get the free Kindle app from the app
store accessed on his iPhone. He downloads that and signs in with his Amazon
account credentials, then he can buy books on the web. He cannot buy them in
the Kindle app, because Apple wants a big cut of the price of books. So Amazon
does not let iPhone app users buy books from within the app can't blame them
very much for not wanting to give Apple 30% of the cost of the book. But, he
buys the book on the web, and right there on the website, he tells Amazon to
send the book to his iPhone Kindle app, and it shows up. No fuss no Mas.

Kindle once more

2016-01-24 Thread Eva Abbas
Hello listers,

Sorry I may have asked this question before. My nephew loves math and
science. He found interesting books on amazon; but they were all kindle books.
The prices were very low; but he does not have kindle. My question is if he
downloads the kindle application on the iPhone 5c that he has, will they work?
Where and how does he download it? Is it for free or does he have to pay for
it? Does he have to buy the kindle device itself? Which one do you advise me
to buy for him if I will end up doing so?
Many thanks for any help

RE: HootSuite - anybody using this to post to social media?

2016-01-24 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Thanks, Kevin, Google My Business is just one aspect of a presence on the web
and it primarily helps with making sure a business is on Google Maps with
driving directions, contact information etc. This is, however, not necessarily
my problem. My issue is ranking on page 1 of Google search results for a
variety of products/searches people may use. This is a very complex topic and
going into details here is beyond the scope of an iPhone/iOS list and something
I am working on in a number of ways..

My post was specifically meant to see if others are using HootSuite for
whatever purpose it may be and whether they find it a useful tool that allows
them to be more efficient when posting to multiple social media accounts.

Regards,

Sieghard

easier to manage social media posts of my business. I just hired a company to
do a bunch of SEO work on my store’s website and they told me that HootSuite
was a great way to maximize social media exposure.

oogle Plus is apparently going to be supported in the near future as well.

The HootSuite website is also fairly accessible although if you write a post
you have to then select to which of your connected accounts you want to post
and that part is a bit tricky. I will try to get in touch with them and ask if
they would be willing to consider improving accessibility of both the app and
website wherever possible.

The basic service is free and there is also a Pro version for $9.99 a month and
an Enterprise version which I didn’t check with respect to the cost since it
wouldn’t apply to myself and probably not to anybody on the list.

If there are users on the list I’d be interested to hear their experience and
how you use the app.

Best regards,

Sieghard

Re: How many use VO Braille Screen Input?

2016-01-24 Thread Brett
I do, almost exclusively. I always use it in away mode. I only use the native
keyboard when I have to go one handed. For Example, texting when walking around
with my cane in the other hand.

iOS braille is so much faster for me and I get much less errors.

Cheers,
Brett.

RE: Moving to another provider

2016-01-24 Thread Chip Orange
Or if you’re unlocked, you can go to one of the “pay as you go” plans AT&T
offers (they market these by the name of “go phone” plans).

They have one with unlimitted voice and 1.5gb high speed data (unlimitted data
throttled after that) for $40 per month (no contract).. This is what I’m
using, and you can buy variations with more high speed data. (note the
advertised price is $45, but you get a $5 discount if you setup a creditcard
with monthly automatic payments).

TMobil has a similar pay as you go plan; but you must sign up via their web
site to get theirs (which is $30 per month, 100 minutes of voice, and
unlimitted data).

Am with T-Mobile. Also in Southern california. Works perfectly fine. Keep in
mind, if you go with Sprint, you’ll need to get an iPhone that is compatible
with their CDMA network. If you are soon off contract with AT&T, you can ask
them to unlock your iPhone if it isnt’ already and take the phone you already
have with you to T-Mobile or an MVNO running T-Mobile’s network for that
matter. It’s a simple process of porting over your phone number and you’re good
to go.

Just received a letter from AT&T Wireless. Even though I am on a 2 year
contract with my iPhone, they are going up on my monthly fee by $5.00. Not a
lot of money, just irritating. My contract is up with them in three months. I
live in Southern California. Any way I can find out the reliability of cell
phone coverage with another provider like T Mobile or Sprint. Any thoughts on
those two companies for So Cal from anyone on this list? Thanks.

Re: Workaround to disable frequent IOS notifications

2016-01-24 Thread Kimberly
You can try going into settings, general, storage and usage and feet in the
update from your phone. I'm not sure that will make the notification go away,
but it's worth a shot.

Out of curiosity, how many use VO Braille screen input, and in which

RE: Text messages on a lap top?

Well, I guess I learned something new or maybe this is carrier specific.

Hi,

Ok I played with this and yes, it works in both directions. If you send a
message from your PC to a phone then reply to that message using your phone it
will show up on your PC as an email.

Thanks -Steve

OK, it works.

If you have Consumer Cellular, you can use the AT&T code.

I just sent a text to my work phone which is on AT&T and another to my personal
phone which is on Consumer Cellular, from Outlook 2016 on my Windows 10
computer, but I suspect this will work with other versions of Windows.

I formatted the to field as iphonenum...@text.att.ent
and put text in the subject so Outlook
wouldn’t flag it as not having a subject, then wrote some text in the body of
the Email and hit send.

Poof, I received the text message on my work iPhone. Then, I did the same with
my personal phone.

Very slick if you don’t want to go and grab your iPhone.

I suspect this works with any cell phone.

How To Send SMS Messages From Windows 10 Computer to a Phone

Method 1 – Send Messages Through Email

Probably the simplest way to send messages from your computer to a cell phone
is through the email. To do so, just follow these instructions:

1. Open Windows 10 Mail App

2. Click on New Mail

3. Now just enter the number you want to send the text message to and
enter the code of your provider. Here are message codes of some popular
providers:

oAlltel: @message.alltel.com (or @mms.alltelwireless.com for picture
messages)

oAT&T: @text.att.net

oSprint: @messaging.sprintpcs.com

oT-Mobile: @tmomail.net

oVerizon: @vtext.com (or @vzwpix.com for photos and video)

4. Write the message as a normal email and just hit Send

When your friend replies to your text message, you’ll also get it in your Mail
inbox.

Method 2 – Send Message From A Carrier’s website

A lot of mobile carriers offer you an option to send free SMS messages from
your computer for free. Depending on the carrier, you’ll be able to send text
messages to other users of that carrier’s services, or even users of other
networks. So just go to your carrier’s website, log into your account, find the
option for texting, and send the text message from your computer.

Re: Problems Editting a Reply with GMail App

2016-01-24 Thread Dani Pagador
I think it's a fairly new thing. I usually only read my e-mail with the
app, but don't remember having issues with it the few times I used it to
access mail and reply, or compose on the fly.

I'm using the Inbox app now, btw--didn't know I had it--DH is a lot more
current and tech-savvy than I am--and am not having any problems. *crossed
fingers* Cursor routes fine, I can see the edit position, and I can insert
and delete in the appropriate places, which were my main issues. Still
can't use the 3 & 6-chord to move by character/word/line. But it's good to
be most of the way there.

More Later,
Dani

Subject: Workaround to disable frequent IOS notifications

Nearly everytime I use my Ipad, I have a popup notification asking if
I wish to update from ios 9.2 to 9.21. I contacted apple
accessibility who indicated there is no way to prevent these frequent
pop up notifications from appearing on the screen and that the reason
that this 9.21 notification appears so frequently is that it pertains
to a security issue. Has anyone found a workaround to disable these
popup notifications concerning ios updates? Thanks for any guidance.
Regards, Michelle Bernstein

Re: Workaround to disable frequent IOS notifications

2016-01-24 Thread Ben Mustill-Rose
Hi,

Is there any reason you don't want to update? I've updated 4 iPhones &
an iPad 4 and found it to be just as stable as 9.2.

Cheers,
Ben.

Workaround to disable frequent IOS notifications

2016-01-24 Thread Michelle Bernstein
Nearly everytime I use my Ipad, I have a popup notification asking if
I wish to update from ios 9.2 to 9.21. I contacted apple
accessibility who indicated there is no way to prevent these frequent
pop up notifications from appearing on the screen and that the reason
that this 9.21 notification appears so frequently is that it pertains
to a security issue. Has anyone found a workaround to disable these
popup notifications concerning ios updates? Thanks for any guidance.

Problems Editting a Reply with GMail App

2016-01-24 Thread Dani Pagador
Hi, Everyone.
I'm running IOS 9.2 and am trying to edit a reply to an e-mail in the
GMail app using a Braille display.

I can type stuff in, but can't seem to use the standard editing
functions to fix my mistakes or add to what's already there.

I use the display to navigate to the character setting on the rotor,
then move to the Message Body element. I can't see the usual
dots-8-and-7 cursor. And when I double-tap to enter the Message Body
field and try flicking up/down to get to the place I want to edit,
nothing happens; VO will read item by item, but I can't delete or
insert anything because the edit cursor isn't anywhere in sight.

Is anyone on list using the GMail app? Haven't seen behavior like this
with the native apps, so am hoping someone has ideas and can clue me
in.

Thanks,
Dani

I formatted the to field asiphonenum...@text.att.ent

Outlook wouldn’t flag it as not having a subject, then wrote some text
in the body of the Email and hit send.
Poof, I received the text message on my work iPhone. Then, I did the

Very slick if you don’t want to go and grab your iPhone.
I suspect this works with any cell phone.

I found this on a web site, I have no idea if it works.
How To Send SMS Messages From Windows 10 Computer to a Phone
Method 1 – Send Messages Through Email
Probably the simplest way to send messages from your computer to a
cell phone is through the email. To do so, just follow these instructions:
1.Open Windows 10 Mail App
2.Click on New Mail
3.Now just enter the number you want to send the text message to and
enter the code of your provider. Here are message codes of some
popular providers:
oAlltel: @message.alltel.com (or
@mms.alltelwireless.com for picture
messages)
oAT&T: @text.att.net
oSprint: @messaging.sprintpcs.com
oT-Mobile: @tmomail.net
oVerizon: @vtext.com (or @vzwpix.com
for photos and video)

4.Write the message as a normal email and just hit Send
When your friend replies to your text message, you’ll also get it in
your Mail inbox.
Method 2 – Send Message From A Carrier’s website
A lot of mobile carriers offer you an option to send free SMS messages
from your computer for free. Depending on the carrier, you’ll be able
to send text messages to other users of that carrier’s services, or
even users of other networks. So just go to your carrier’s website,
log into your account, find the option for texting, and send the text
message from your computer.

Hi all, I got the lifeline game and the other two games also. I noticed almost
immediately when I started playing the game that the word D a M and is in the
game. I do not judge anyone for what they play or don't play but I would like
to know are there any more such words in the game as it progresses. I
personally don't like playing games that have words such as that in them. God
bless and thank you for your input, Wren Langley

Hi, you can get any extension for chrome or firefox for windows. Before
iPhone, I was having MotoX, I used the extensions, it works flawlessly and
much easier than the ways suggested here.
