Re: Badges in iOS?

When you touch the mail app icon and it says 5 unread messages, that is an
example of a badge. If you turned badges off for mail, you would never know if
you had new messages.

Hello Jan,
It sounds to me like you have done all that you could do to try to get
the phone updated. Just to confirm, does your phone state that it is
connected to WiFI in the status bar at the top of the screen after
resetting network settings? Are you able to launch and browse the
Internet with Safari? You might want to try disabling cellular data
and seeing if you could do the update this way. That way you are sure
that WiFi is connected. You can turn off cellular data in
settings/cellular.
If you still receive the same message, you will have to reset the
phone as new again to get it to update to iOS10.1.

the multiple presses of the power button, I've reset the network settings,

no

problems whatsoever. What might be the problem here? When I got this
phone, it was just after the release of Ios 10. I then did a clean
install,
redownloaded the apps I needed from the app store, not using an old

So, short from setting it up as a new phone again, would there be
something

else that I could try? It is also connected to power when I attempt this,
so all those bases are covered. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: VoiceOver draining battery since 10.1 update

2016-10-30 Thread Anne Robertson
I’m currently doing a complete restore of my iPhone, which means I’ll have to
download all the Navigon maps and fix other settings.
The problem occurred at home with a good connexion to our network. I find it
interesting that turning VoiceOver off cures the problem, so the internet
connexion couldn’t be the issue.

Cheers,

Anne

 Hello fellow listers,

After doing the iOS 10.1 update on my 64 GB iPhone SE, I noticed a sudden
excessive battery drain while not using my iPhone.
I turned off all background refresh activities for all apps. I left two
apps in the App Switcher: Kobo and Audible.
With VoiceOver active but the screen locked, the battery drain was between
 4 and 5% per hour.
I then turned VoiceOver off and locked the screen. After an hour, there
 was no noticeable battery drain.
I Therefore conclude that VoiceOver is draining my battery.

I’ve reported this to Apple Accessibility.
 Cheers,

 Anne

Re: VoiceOver draining battery since 10.1 update

2016-10-30 Thread Feliciano Godoy
Are you experiencing this behavior at different locations as well? This type of
behavior also occurs when your phone is looking for service. How how about if
you try to put your phone on airplane mode for an hour or two and see the
battery life difference.

Subject: Voiceover problem

Hello Rich,

You can forward it to your list.

Hello everyone,

Rich explain to you error as he thought it was subject and name turns out it
is not the issues.

I am using IPHone 5 with late update of IOS 9 but not yet update to IOS 10.1

I am also deaf-blind and wondering how can I resolve this issue.

For example when I send Rich e mail then he reply to me then I reply to him
then he reply to me again then I reply to him by hitting 'send' it start to
freezing and it stays on braille display the word 'send' but my iphone's
screen said it was send right away.

I had to wait for the word 'send' to disappear but it didn't. It keeps delay
longer bettween 1 to 5 minutes before it disappear. If it takes longer more
than 1 minute then I would hit home button 3 times to turn off voice over
then it home button 3 times to turn on voiceover to get rid of the word
'send' that have been stuck. When it was stuck means I can't move to
anywhere till the word disappear. When I used this button to turn off and on
voiceover that helps to make the word 'send' disappear. It is annoying to do
repeating all the times isn't a good idea.

Do you have this issue yourself? If so how can it resolved this matter? I
would aprecaite it

Thank you

Barbara

False. There is no Cody app in the app store. THe workaround then would be to
install Cody on an iDevice and send the stream wirelessly to your TV using

2016-10-30 Thread Lynn White
 Yep, that works very well.

By the way, I learned about this through Jonathan's book while looking to solve
someone else's issue.

I like how all this works in iOS ten.

That is why I gave up the Brailliant. It has always froze whenever I was

I don’t have the stick, but I do have the Amazon Fire tv and happen to like it
very much.

For me I like it better than Apple because it has more content to my liking.

Just thought I’d mention it, I don’t know that much about the stick and the
purpose for it but I am very happy with my Amazon Fire TV.

The Voice View is very nice, same voice that is on the Echo. In fact I have
some echo capabilities on it because it has Alexa and I can use it with music,
for instance.

Just saying, not wanting to start anything, grin. I have also heard that voice
to speech capability may be coming to the roku.

That would be nice.

Re: Dictation only works on my iPhone 6 when earphones are connected. Why?

2016-10-30 Thread Feliciano Godoy
Hi, that is definitely abnormal behavior. I suggest you go to your device
settings followed by General and then keyboard and turn off dictation and turn
it back on. After you have done this, try to use dictation without the
headphones. Now if that doesn't work, I would suggest to power off your device
and turned it back on.

Backing Up Multiple iThings in iTunes with Different Apple IDs?

2016-10-30 Thread Dani Pagador
Hi, Everyone.
I barely touch iTunes. I have it on my work computer and use it to
back up my iPodTouch and install anything new Apple may say I need.

I want to keep a backup of my Mom's iPhone on my new MacBook.

But I also need to temporarily keep a backup of my own iPodTouch there as well.

Can I do this?

Thanks,
Dani, hoping this makes sense

RE: Moving apps to folders

2016-10-30 Thread Richard Turner
I’m going to assume you are using iOS 10.
Moving apps in iOS 10

Here is my summary of how it works.

Touch the app you want to move.

Flick up once and you should hear, Arrange apps.

double tap.

Then, do a two finger double tap and it should say something like choose a

destination for the app.

Now, use your normal method to get to where you want the app. If you are in a
folder and want to move the app out of the folder, do the two finger scrub to
close the folder without stopping the edit mode.

If you want to move the app to a different page, just do the three finger swipe
to get there.

Touch where you want the app. Even if you want it in a folder, just touch the

folder, don't open it.

Flick up with 1 finger and you will hear options like, place after x app, or

before x app, or put in x folder, whatever you want to do, just double tap with

one finger and Wala, it is done.

When you find an app you wish to create a folder with, flick up or down until
you hear the option to create a folder with that app, and double tap.

BTW, deleting apps is the same as always, once it says edit, double tap with
one finger and you will get the option to delete it.

HTH,

Richard

Moving apps to folders

2016-10-30 Thread Andrew Roberts
Hi,

I have quite a number of apps on my home screen making it a little unwieldy.

Am I right in thinking that these can be moved to folders? If this is the
case please can someone advise me how to create the folders into which I can
move them?

Many thanks,

Andrew

Adding contacts to favourites

2016-10-30 Thread Andrew Roberts
Hi,

I am using an iPhone 7 running iOS10.

I have a few contacts who have several numbers, an iPhone, home, and work
number. I am in a position where I would like to take one of these contacts
and add all three of these numbers to my favourite contacts. Unfortunately the
only one it seems to allow me to add is the iPhone number. Does anyone know
how I accomplish adding the other two numbers to favourites? I was able to do
this on my iPhone5S running iOS9.

Many thanks,

Andrew

Problems updating iPhone 6 over the air to ios 10.1

2016-10-30 Thread Jan Kleinhans
Hi all

Because of some problems with my computer which is not relevant here, I tried
updating my iPhone 6 to ios 10.1 over the air, but this seems to be a problem.
I get to the point where it starts downloading the update, then after about 5
minutes the message appears: "error downloading update" and I then can close it
or retry. Now, I have tried numerous times, same thing happening. I have
restarted the phone by switching it off, rebooting with the multiple presses of
the power button, I've reset the network settings, no apps in the app switcher,
but the same thing happens all the time. It is a 64 gb phone, lots of memory
free, so that also is not the problem. I have used the same wi-fi network to
update my wife's iPhone 5S, and there were no problems whatsoever. What might
be the problem here? When I got this phone, it was just after the release of
Ios 10. I then did a clean install, redownloaded the apps I needed from the
app store, not using an old backup. So, short from setting it up as a new
phone again, would there be something else that I could try? It is also
connected to power when I attempt this, so all those bases are covered. Any
help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Bluetooth ear buds without noise cancellation [was "Re: Apple Delays AirPods, October Launch No Longer Happening"]

Hi,

I'm pretty sure that during the demo, they said that if you start playback with
one earpod in, the music plays through that earpod. So the auto-pause would
only happen if you were using both and removed one.

Best,
Anna

When Apple debuted its AirPods in September, the company said the
wireless earbuds would launch in late October. Now that it's late
October, people have been wondering if a release is imminent, but as
it turns out, the AirPods are delayed.

Apple today told /TechCrunch/ that it needs "a little more time"
before the AirPods are ready for a public release, without specifying
 the reason behind the delay.

Hi Fanus,

AppleVis has a podcast done by Alex Hall which gives a good overview of the

comparisons on apple tv and the fire stick

2016-10-30 Thread pattigj1206
I don't have the stick, but I do have the Amazon Fire tv and happen to like
it very much.

For me I like it better than Apple because it has more content to my liking.

Just thought I'd mention it, I don't know that much about the stick and the
purpose for it but I am very happy with my Amazon Fire TV.

The Voice View is very nice, same voice that is on the Echo. In fact I have
some echo capabilities on it because it has Alexa and I can use it with
music, for instance.

Just saying, not wanting to start anything, grin. I have also heard that
voice to speech capability may be coming to the roku.

That would be nice.

I saw someone post on twitter that after they finished a game that all
their stats along with gold disappeared. They uninstalled and
reinstalled the app which fixed the issues for a few game plays, but
then the problem came back. So now would be a good time to email the dev

Re: A new question about the time warner app

2016-10-30 Thread Donna
You will need the master email account from your parent & the password that
they use to sign into that email account. The TWC app can be used on a public
wifi or cellular. If the app is used on cellular it uses your data. When away
from home & using the TWC app you will not be able to watch all of the stations

Apple TV, another one

2016-10-30 Thread Gordan Radić

Hi!
I see some discussions on Apple TV but I have some more questions
considering the fact I don't live in the US, Canada or UK.
What we have here is some digital TV channels over the air which
you can watch using the air antenna and some cable/adsl operators
providing packages of channels for monthly subscription. For most
operators we need to have analog/digital HD receivers patched via
analog or HDMI through TV sets.
I already know I can't use the Apple TV over the air, there's no
way to receive digital signal from the air. I wonder is it
possible to use Apple TV instead of receivers offered by TV
operators or it is just limited to internet streams?
Thanks!

Re: Just doing some comparing of Apple TV and Amazon Firestick

2016-10-30 Thread MamaPeach
It has several buttons, five to be exact, but it also has a small section where
you can perform gestures like swiping to do certain things. Just remember when
you first picked up an iDevice for the first time, you really didn’t know what
to do with it, with an Apple TV, you would have a bit more of an understanding
now because you have used different iDevices and you know some gestures to use
to get things accomplished. The new Apple TV also has Siri which makes doing
things a lot easier. Don’t let it intimidate you, it is easy to use and a
treasure to have in my opinion. Apple did a great job on the Apple TV, a much
better job than Amazon or even Roku as far as accessibility.

Re: apple tv confusion

2016-10-30 Thread Kliphton Miller
As it stands now you need a subscription to access the major networks. But by
the beginning of next year we will have multiple streaming options.
Google is coming out with what they call "google unplugged". They claim to
already signed a deal with CBS, Hulu can't even say that. they claim to have
all the disney and ESPN channels, along with fox and NBC networks.
Hulu claims to have a streaming service coming, and says there's will be priced
with all compitition.
SlingTV already has a streaming app, but it's not very accessible, and
depending on your area, the feed is a bit choppy at best.
Now, directv says there's will be ready by the end of the year, and claim they
will offer over 100 channels, even wants there current customers to eventually
migrate to the directv now app, so they can cut out technicians and equipment.
They also are trying to buy time warner, so we will see how this all plays out.
I hope directv does launch there app soon, cause rumor has it, they will offer
the sunday ticket for the Nfl as a stand alone package too. Guess we will see.

I am still stuck in a cable contract but hope to cut the cord when it is up.

I am still confused about apple tv and what it can do.

Can I cut the cord as far as tv and phone and keep my internet to use apple tv?
Or do I still need a cable subscription to use it?

My wife has favorite shows on he 4 major networks as well as tlc, Lifetime, and
Hallmark movie channel. I am interested in the mlb network.

With apple tv, are all these choices available?

With apple tv do you need apps from each network, or does hulu or netflicks
allow access to most everything?

What is the delay time in obtaining a show? If survivor is on cbs this
wednesday, when can a apple tv userr get it?

Can apple tv be used with apps already on our other apple devices?

Any feedback is appreciated.

iDevices, you should be able to use the Apple TV with no problems. Yes, the
area for swiping is a smaller area but it isn't difficult to use at all.

Subject: Just doing some comparing of Apple TV and Amazon Firestick

Hello everyone,

I am trying to decide where to go next, when it comes to my Apple TV.

I love my Apple Tv, and enjoy it very much! I use it all the time.

However, while I want to upgrade, I do have some concerns about the
learning curve. But even more, I have concerns about the cost.

I don't really have the money to purchase a new model, and I most likely
won't for some time now. I know this might not seem like a lot of money
for some of you, and I think this is wonderful!

But unfortunately for me, it is.

So I was looking at the Amazon tv Firestick.

Does anyone on this list know much about this thing?

If not, could someone kindly direct me to a list, where there are blind
people who do know about this?

Also, is this device accessible at all?

If so, by how much? Will only part of it talk?

Would I be able to download apps?

Also, from what I read, it mentioned that you can get a subscription to
Sling tv. From what I understand, Sling tv isn't accessible at all.

So if I got a subscription on the Firestick, wouldn't it likely not be
accessible?

Any help with this, or thoughts on the matter, would be very much
appreciated.

Thank you for reading, and letting me make comparisons.

Terri

Dictation only works on my iPhone 6 when earphones are connected. Why?

2016-10-30 Thread Kevin Gibbs
guys,

I’m finding that dictation only works on my iPhone 6 with iOS 9 or 10 when my
earphones are connected. Since my phones have a bad wire that causes only one
ear to work, I assumed that the failure of dictation was global. but, weirdly
enough, when my phones are connected, I get a great dictation response. I
would prefer not to have to wear earphones, working or not, to use the
dictation feature. Any ideas? Dictation works fine on my iPad Air 2 without
phones.

Since i never visit this forum, I’d be grateful if responders would copy me at
this address:
kevj...@me.com , in addition to replying to the group.

thanks for understanding,
Kevin

 There are many audio
games. Ticon Blu has done Audeo Rally Racing and another
racing game. They also have adventure games called The
Inquisator and a hidden object game called She Noire.
Codename Cygnus, probably spellt wrong, is another audio
adventure game where you are a secret agent. Of course,
there are the Something Else LTD games like Papa Sangre II
and Audio Defence. There are lots of audio games out there
and I expect many more will appear over the next couple of
 years.

Last week, amazon released the alexa tv fire stick. You should be able to talk
to it if it is set up correctly. I haven't been able to successfully set it up
by myself. I got it for my husband who loves the amazon echo. There is no

They discuss anything related to the amazon alexa or (echo)

Terri
