RE: geting navigation of your music library to work

2017-01-05 Thread Alan Lemly
I meant to say you have to turn on Home sharing in iTunes in order to control
its music playback with the Remote app. Sorry for the error.

Alan Lemly

Larry,

That's great that Sieghard and you worked out the issue.

I meant to post a few months ago when you first mentioned having difficulties
playing music in iTunes to ask if you've ever considered using the Remote app
to control iTunes music playback. You have to turn family sharing on but it
works pretty well if you have iTunes up and running on the computer and want to
control playback with your iDevice.

RE: Voice dream writer or word app?

2017-01-05 Thread Alan Lemly
Actually, that's not correct. I don't have to have an Office 365 subscription
to create documents with the Microsoft Word app on my iPhone as I just did it.
You do have to have a Microsoft account which is free in order to save a
created file because you'll be prompted to sign into it before the file will
save.

RE: Viewing Apps in iTunes with Jaws solved

Hi Victor, Our itunes windows seem to compare alike that far.

Subject: Re: Viewing Apps in iTunes with Jaws solved

Hi Larry,

I think we should compare our iTunes window to see if they are the same.

All iTunes windows have a search field, so we’ll start from there.

Tabbing from there lands me on a search options button, followed by the media
button, which form me, currently says music. To change it, press your spacebar
and arrow up or down to music, depending on where you are on the list.

Tabbing from there, lands me on a series of checkboxes beginning with library,
connect, radio and store.

Tabbing from there lands me on the sidebar, and jaws speaks out, “Library
Sidebar Tree View”, followed by the option you currently have focus on, which
in my case is songs. Tab again and you land on another sidebar option and mine
says library. Tab again and you land on the Sidebar edit button.

You can change what appears in this tree view by pressing the spacebar on the
edit button and tabbing through the checkbox list and checking and unchecking
the ones you want to appear. As I said, I currently only have mind checked on
songs.

Tabbing from here you land on another sidebar option, and this one is set to
show all playlists, and another tab lands on the hide button, to hide this
feature.

Tabbing once from this button lands you on a multi level list view, and this is
where you have all the songs, or, depending on how you have your view set up in
the sidebar options, your library items. In my case, it’s a list of all the
songs I’ve currently got in my library, begging in a a to Z list. A’s at the
top, and Z’s and numbered items on the bottom.

I think we’ll stop here to compare, and let’s see if your iTunes experience
matches mine to see where the differences are, and if we can get your to look
like mine.

Hi Larry,

I hate to say this, but I’m thinking there’s another problem with your system,
not necessarily with Windows or iTunes...

I have just tried going to various parts of the iTunes window and I was able to
get to the view options from any point.

Ok, I just pulled up iTunes and have discovered something that might not have
occurred to me. Have you been in the phone or device view this whole time?

In other words, after tabbing through the iTunes window, right after the media
button, did you press the button right after that for your device, whether it
be an iPhone, iPad, iPod or what have you?

If so, you can’t access the view options from there.

You have to tab to the back button until you get to the iTunes library on your
computer, not your device.

Once there, you’ll be able to manipulate the view options from there.

So, tab around, to the back button, and keep hitting your spacebar until the
back button disappears. Once it disappears, you’ll be in the view for your
iTunes library on your computer.

At that point, press control+J, or press alt+V, followed by the letter O and
that will take you to the View Options.

At that point, tab down and you’ll here Jaws say, “view options”.

>From there, tab down to change your preferences.

Hope this solves your problem.

Apple watch and Air Pods

2017-01-05 Thread Deb Lewis
I got my Air Pods today. So far I am very impressed with the sound
quality, but I got them to use back and forth between my phone and
Apple Watch and they seem to be a big fail for this unless I'm really
missing something.
Pairing them to a phone was easy, and they easily reconnect themselves
to that phone. But my Apple watch and my second phone will not stay
connected, and the watch doesn't connect unless I reboot the watch.
Every BT headset on the market can do this badly. I'm fine about going
into Control panel on the watch and connecting, but it should connect
and it should stay connected. but neither are true. So any suggestions
are welcome. I have a ticket open with Apple but they seem pretty
clueless so far since they don't seem to have much testing with
Voiceover recorded in their troubleshooting system.

RE: Differences between Apple Music, and Spotify

2017-01-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Both are subscription music services with similar features, if you are invested
in iOS devices (iPhone, Apple TV etc.) Apple Music to me is a better way to go
as you can use SIRI to ask for your music, e.g. "Play Taylor Swift" or "Play
the top 20 songs of 1984" or "Play country music" etc. You can ask SIRI on the
iPhone and also use the SIRI remote on the fourth generation Apple TV to ask
for music.
With Apple Music you can select an artist or a song and play a radio station
based on this artist or song which has similar music and yes, you can download
music for off-line listening, but of course if you stop paying your
subscription you don't have access to that music any more.
Also, if you are part of a family Apple Music costs $14.99 and then up to 4
people which must be part of your family account can use it and each can have
their own suggestions, preferences etc.
If you Google "Apple Music vs Spotify" you find all sorts of articles which
probably go into much more details as to where one service is better than the
other. One thing that came up right away when I did this was an article which
said that Spotify says they have "More than 30 Million songs" but they don't
say how many more. Apple Music claims they have 40 million songs, I think Apple
Music has an exclusive on Taylor Swift, but I don't know if this is the case
any more.
You can definitely play artists and albums ond emand with Apple Music whenever
you want and download entire albums, but again, you have to maintain your
subscription in order for them to play.

Regards,
Sieghard

Subject: Differences between Apple Music, and Spotify

Hello everybody,

As my subject says, I would like to know the differences between Apple Music,
and Spotify. I already have a Spotify account, and pay for the service as of
right now. I really enjoy it!

I do know a lot of what I will get from this question will be opinions, but
that is certainly all right. I really enjoy my Spotify account, because I can
choose what I want to listen to, I can choose other artists that are similar to
the artist I like, I can listen to certain things off-line, though I haven't
tried this feature out yet. I can save stuff. And just other things that I
really like about it. So my question is this.
Are there really any differences between what you can do with Spotify, and what
you can do with Apple Music?
For instance, if I want an album, or certain songs with Apple Music, would I
still have to pay for them, even if I have an account? Does anyone really know
if one service offers more music and stuff, then the other service? If so, how
would anyone really actually know this? And last but not least, when I go to
download songs, when the show, the voice is on, I have course have to pay for
them.
What I have to do this if I had an Apple Music account?
If I do still have to pay, or I mean, if I don't have to pay, does anyone know
if the votes for the person would count?

Any thoughts or suggestions on this would really be appreciated. The voice is
really the only reality TV show that I like. And since I don't use Twitter,
downloading from Apple is the only way I can vote, when it comes time for this.
Thank you,

Terrir

RE: Getting a document off my iPhone and on to my laptop

2017-01-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Yes, anything you change on either device will sync up to the cloud and back to
any other device. Actually, on your phone you are accessing the cloud version
unless you Favorite the document in which case a local copy is downloaded to
your phone. If you don't do this you need a data connection (WiFi or 3G/LTE)
for the document to be available.

Hi Sieghard,

Thanks for the tips. I have the document on my laptop now. Here's another
novice question. When I make changes to the document on the laptop (with the
doc still in the One Drive folder), will the changes automatically appear on my
phone the next time I access it there?

Re: Query about voice dream writer

2017-01-05 Thread Richard Turner

First, let me say that this has become my primary writing app on the iPhone.
I think a bluetooth keyboard makes it much easier to use.
It can be cumbersome, but that is only because it is so powerful.
It has the best spell check feature of any app I have used for writing.
You should spend time with the instructions and then spend more time with the
instructions until they make sense.
If you put in the time, you won't regret it.
That is my two cents worth.

Hi,

Voice Dream Writer has the ability to move to the next misspelled word, making
it easier to fix misspellings than in other apps. You can also create headings
and move by heading as well as paragraph, making it easier to navigate
documents. It creates plain text files. You can export them to Word and a
couple of other formats, though. It also has a variety of dictionary options
and a proofreading mode that helps you check features like capitalization.
There's also a Find feature. So it has a lot of useful writing tools.

Best,
Anna

You need to go into the Settings app. Next, go into the display and brightness
settings. Once there, flick right to the "autolock" option. I have it set to
never so that I don't experience unexpected shut-downs. However, if you want to
have it shut down after a time automatically, there are time options when you
double-tap that autolock setting. Choose the one you want and then hit the
"back" button. Hope that helps.

I'm coming from your starting point. With the difficulties you're having, maybe
I don't want anything to do with grid view but I understand your frustration. I
personally think they've made the iTunes interface way too confusing for the

I'll keep poking around.

Either turn the braille display off entirely or disable bluetooth before
restarting the phone. Once the display connects, all bets are off. You can try,
though I'm not sure it will be successful, to go in to your BT settings and
disconnect the display to see if that helps. Most people I know tend to use the
braille display's Perkins keyboard for entering text, but with the sluggishness
that came with 10.2, I can certainly understand using touch typing if you are
quick with it.

Take care,

Hi sieghard. I’m trying to get the music albums to read in a list view instead
of a grid view.

Larry, I think you may have to connect your phone, go to the device area and
then to Apps and try to put it in List View there.

Allen, I control 1ed to music. I made sure the library radio button was

Any other ideas?

Larry,

Did you tab until you are on the Library button/folder tab before pressing ctrl
+ j? When I ctrl + j after placing focus on the library tab after selecting
music with ctrl + 1 as the media displayed, tabbing once after that ctrl + j
places me in the view options dialog. This dialog doesn't have a view choice
between list and grid but it does have a sort by drop-down box where you can
select from among album, artist, etc. and whether you want ascending or
descending order. There are also several tickboxes where you can select which
music columns to display.

I hope this helps.

Cher and Larry,

Let me say up front that I'm running iTunes for Windows 12.5.4.42 on my Windows
7 desktop.

When I launch iTunes, it comes up with music as the selected media. To switch
to apps, press ctrl + 7. Above the main screen where content is displayed are
three folder tabs or buttons, Library, Updates, and App Store. You want Library
to be selected which you should be able to tab to. Once library is selected,
you should be able to invoke the view options by pressing ctrl + J. The first
item in the dialog which opens is view as where you should select list. There
are other sort and tickboxes to select what you want displayed about the apps
library. Press ctrl + J when you're done. I assume you can set view options for
other media content too such as music following the above steps.

I hope this helps but post back if you have more questions.

Hi Scott. Thank you for the braille assistance with the display. The issue
ended up being that my keyboard was hidden. I must have hit the 1-4-6 chord

How can I disconnect my RB I turned off the braille display and the phone
and tried restarting but the refreshabraille still shows as connected and my
keyboard doesn't come up at all in edit fields whether I have the onscreen
keyboard showing or not. Hmmm. I don't know how all these bugs get through
with accessibility. Is there a way of disconnecting it without having to
repair it in Bluetooth settings?

Re: strange behavior with my IPhone SE

2017-01-05 Thread Scott Davert
Hi Rebecca.
This is a bug. Not a major one, but a bug nonetheless. You have 2 options that
I can think of. The first is to go to the braille settings under VO and choose
to always show the on-screen keyboard. This will get in your way when using the
braille display, but you can press space with 1-4-6 to hide it temperarily. If
you wish to not have the on-screen keyboard visible and in your way,
restartingthe phone and not connecting your RB should also work restore the
on-screen keyboard. I don't understand why they had you do the restore, but
this is what has worked for me in the past.

Scott

strange behavior with my IPhone SE

2017-01-05 Thread Rebecca Ilniski
Hi everyone. I'm having a strange issue with my IPhone SE. here's the
problem. I have a Refreshabraille 18 hooked up to it and it's connected. I
can do everything from the braille display. Let's say I decide to put the
braille display in my backpack and just choose not to carry it around with
me and I want to send a text with standard or touch typing. The keyboard
does not come up at all, meaning when I go in to any text fields I can not
type. Last night I called apple Accessibility and they had me do a restore
so I did that and set up the phone with new software. Now it was working
for awhile and am having the same behavior now again. I'm using 10.2 IOS.
Anyone have any ideas as to what could be the issue or what to do about it?
I like typing flexibility and don't want to be tied down to having to use a

and power button but no luck there either.Thanks.

Differences between Apple Music, and Spotify

2017-01-05 Thread Terri Stimmel

Thank you,

Terrir

Re: screen dimming setting

2017-01-05 Thread Michael Feir
You need to go into the Settings app. Next, go into the display and
brightness settings. Once there, flick right to the "autolock" option. I
have it set to never so that I don't experience unexpected shut-downs.
However, if you want to have it shut down after a time automatically, there
are time options when you double-tap that autolock setting. Choose the one
you want and then hit the "back" button. Hope that helps.

I'm hoping Victor can help you. I'm trying hard to figure out the ins and outs
of iTunes but I can't seem to locate how to put mine back in grid view so that
I'm coming from your starting point. With the difficulties you're having, maybe
I don't want anything to do with grid view but I understand your frustration. I
personally think they've made the iTunes interface way too confusing for the
sighted, never mind the issues we're dealing with and our screen readers trying
to catch up with the UI changes and providing accessible dialogs to access them.

I'll keep poking around.

sleep" within less than one minute. Thanks.

Re: Tv Guide App issue

2017-01-05 Thread Alan Lemly
Terri,

I just performed exactly what you described by getting a listing of my favorite
channels at 7pm tonight. I got several screens of channels and swiping right
advanced through them to the next screen with one exception. My listing
contained advertising and when I came to an ad, swiping right would often not
proceed to the channel below it. Once it jumped me to the bottom menu and once
focus just seemed to stick on the ad. I would suggest if you hear anything
that's not a channel while you're swiping that you place your finger below
where the ad is to reestablish focus and start swiping again.

Good luck.

Re: Viewing Apps in iTunes with Jaws solved

2017-01-05 Thread englishrider91
Larry, I think you need to bring up the column browser. When I make the column
browser go away and put focus on the album list, I had to move through it by
using all four arrow keys, not just the up and down arrows. I think this is
grid view. I think you'll need to have the sidebar showing, then you can use
control+shift+b to bring up the column browser. Once you've done that, tab to
the thing that your screen reader will announce as "Library Sidebar Treeview,"
and press down arrow until you come to songs. Then you can tab and see all your
artists in one list, your albums in another, and your songs in a third. Your
view options should now be visible, and you can choose what lists (or columns,
as they appear on the screen) are displayed. You can find these options in the
column browser submenu, in the view menu. The view options dialogue is not to
customize what columns appear in the column browser, but rather what
information appears on each line that corresponds to a different item in your
different lists, track, artist, name, beats per minute, etc.. I hope this makes
sense, and that it helps you get your iTunes view into a much better experience
for screen reader users, in my opinion. I was stuck in grid view for quite a
while, but eventually, and Apple representative sorted me out.

Thanks,
Ari

Hi victor,

This is not Larry but Ed. I went into my iTunes and did an alt + V and when I
arrow down to show view options it is not available is what Jaws says. It is
there as I have some vision and can see it but it is grayed out which means you
cannot activate it. So do I have to get to the view menu a different way?

Larry,

I'm hoping Victor can help you. I'm trying hard to figure out the ins and outs
of iTunes but I can't seem to locate how to put mine back in grid view so that
I'm coming from your starting point. With the difficulties you're having, maybe
I don't want anything to do with grid view but I understand your frustration. I
personally think they've made the iTunes interface way too confusing for the
sighted, never mind the issues we're dealing with and our screen readers trying
to catch up with the UI changes and providing accessible dialogs to access them.

I'll keep poking around.

Hi Folks,

AT one point, we had gotten messages of people being able to scroll through
their installed apps on their various devices with the latest release of iTunes
12.

Some people, such as myself, were at a loss as to why it wasn’t working for
some people, especially me.

I’m happy to say that this problem has been resolved.

It would seem that you must go into your view options and select list view
instead of grid view.

Once I did this, my issues were solved, and I could now select and de-select
various apps to install and uninstall on my phone.

Thanks go to Sieghard for giving me the incentive to keep looking for a
solution.

Hello,
Language is in the rotor by default, provided that you have more than one voice
over language. Rather than settings general accessibility voiceover rotor, try
just flicking it, and see if you can find language? If you can't, you might be
having a different issue entirely.

RE: apple watch questions

2017-01-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Stephanie,

I wonder if the vibrations you describe happen when you double tap the screen?
In Watch OS 3 if the screen is locked and you double tap you get the time
silently via vibrations. Right now it is 11:01 AM, if I, for example, double
tap my watch right now I get one long vibration which indicates 10 O’Clock,
then I get one short one which means 1 hour past 10, then there is a brief
pause and then I get a single short vibration which indicates 1 minute. If it
were 11:13 AM I would get the long and the short for 11 O’clock then a pause
and then one more long (every 10 minutes is indicated by a long vibration) and
then 3 short to indicate 3 minutes so 13 minutes in total.

Complications are apps in a way, but not all apps can be complications.
Complications are those items or apps you can add to a watch face, e.g. the
time, date, apps like weather, Phone, timer, stop watch etc.
If you customize a watch face either in the watch app on your phone you find
that most watch faces can have either 3 or 5 complications you can customize
and each one has a list of items/apps to choose from.

Hi Stephanie. David Woodbridge has made numerous podcasts about the Apple

Mystic Access also has a tutorial you can purchase.

RE: Tv Guide App issue

I don’t use this app, but you might want to try and swipe up with 3 fingers to
bring more of the listing into view.

Subject: Tv Guide App issue

Hello everyone.

I finally have the Tv Guide App acting right for me, to a point.
I can now set alerts, witch is great. I had to reinstall the App, and do a few
other things for that feature to work properly.

Anyway, i have a favorites list of channels. There are many, maybe at least 100.
When i go to a specific time, and i try looking at the channel listings, i
almost always have this issue. I can't seem to view the whole list. I might get
to about 20 channels, or so. But then it takes me to the search area, or just
somewhere else on the screen. If i try, i can sometimes go through the listings
backward. But of course, i do not always want to do this. Plus, it does not
always work.

So i was wondering, does anyone else who uses this App have any similar issues
like this?
If so, what do you do about it? Or deal with it?

Thank you,

Terri

Sure sounds complicated compared to just doing a double tap and hold and then
letting go when you are done recording.

app

Hi all! How are you all? I think you might find this interesting. So I find
out that you can double tap and hold on teh voice message button in the
Whatsapp app,and in the message app on the record audio button with a
Bluetooth keyboard. You may wonder how? So on WhatsApp, you navigate to your
voice message with your keyboard, when you get there perform VO Plus Shift plus
M in order to double tap and hold, when you finish recording you audio message
to sen dit, you need to go right arrow or go Vo Right arrow and you will
find Voice message button, and just double tap on it with Vo space bar, or by
pressing up and down arrow key if you have quick nab enable, or jus by double
tapping on the screen with your finger. And now for the message app, go
inside the message app, find the person you want to send an audio message
then find audio message button with your keyboard, and perform Vo Plus Shift
plus M to double tap and hold, and when you finish recording just let go of
the keys. Here Voiceover says if you flick right Stop recording Video, but I
think This is an audio message, and just send it by double tapping on send
button. By Vo I mean Control and option keys at the same time or caps lock
key. Hope this helps some! These steps also work on facebook messenger, but I
have no try them yet. I can confirm with you guys if it works on facebook
messenger i fyou ugys want. Just let me know ok? And if any of you can see
some, I wil like som confirmation that when voiceover says stop recording
Video, is that a video or an audio message on the message app? I wil really
appreciate it a lot! I look forward in hearing from you soon. Thanks and God

Hi,

Voice Dream Writer has the ability to move to the next misspelled word,
making it easier to fix misspellings than in other apps. You can also create
headings and move by heading as well as paragraph, making it easier to
navigate documents. It creates plain text files. You can export them to Word
and a couple of other formats, though. It also has a variety of dictionary
options and a proofreading mode that helps you check features like
capitalization. There's also a Find feature. So it has a lot of useful
writing tools.

Best,
Anna

Hi,

On my IPhone 6 with IOS 10 (previous release) I go to Settings, General,
Accessability, Voice Over, Speech. “Voice” indicates I have VO set for
Allison. However, VO is actually using Symantha.

I just changed the setting to use Allison. I have closed and reopened Settings

I still am hearing Symantha.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Victor

Hi victor,

This is not Larry but Ed. I went into my iTunes and did an alt + V and when I
arrow down to show view options it is not available is what Jaws says. It is
there as I have some vision and can see it but it is grayed out which means you
cannot activate it. So do I have to get to the view menu a different way?

Cher,

I'm using the term erasing in order to have your ATT iPhone fully unlocked as
being the same as Settings, General, Reset, Reset all settings. This will
completely erase all the phone's content and settings with the exception of
leaving the iOS version in place.

I never quite figured out where you were in the unlocking of this phone but I
guess that's not important. It sounds as if you'll be using the phone going
forward and that it used to be a locked ATT iPhone so if the former owner took
the steps with ATT to have it unlocked, you'll need to reset all settings to
complete that process. Hopefully, you'll have a backup of your previous phone
to restore to this unlocked one. Depending on whether this phone is newly
acquired by you or just one you've unlocked and are continuing to use, you'll
need to either leave your SIM card in it if you previously used it or put in
the SIM card of your provider.

Thanks Donna, Sieghard, and Alan. I still can’t see the logical part of these
instructions- but will follow with an additional question or two.

Is ‘erasing’ exactly the same as Settings, General/ Reset?

2) AT never says to put in the new carrier’s sim card at the end, but that is
the only one logical thing I can see about this process!

I interpet the instructions as follows..

1 remove the old sim card from your phone.

2 install the new sim card into your phone that is from your new cell phone
carrier.

3 follow the setup process after installing the new sim card.

4 make a backup copy of your phone.

5 restore your phone to manufactory settings.

6 restore your phone using the backup you just made.

The following makes no sense to me. Can anyone interpret? Thanks!

We have reviewed your request and confirmed that the device may be unlocked.
Please follow the unlock instructions below to unlock your device. Please allow
24 hours upon receipt of this notification to complete the unlock process.

1) Using a Non-AT SIM Card: 1) Remove your SIM card and insert the new SIM
card. 2) Complete the setup process.
2) Using an AT SIM Card 1) Back up your iPhone. 2) When you have a backup,
erase your iPhone. 3) Restore your iPhone from the backup you just made.

to catch up with the UI changes and providing accessible dialogs to access them.

I'll keep poking around.

Alan

Hi Victor. Went into itunes and saw no back button. I don’t often hook my
device up to itunes so haden’t gone there. No back button there. Sorry.
Thanks for trying and let me know if any other ideas pop into your head and
I’ll try them. I guess I could do a complete uninstall of everything apple and
go from there but hate all that work.

Victor

Larry,

I'm hoping Victor can help you. I'm trying hard to figure out the ins and outs
of iTunes but I can't seem to locate how to put mine back in grid view so that
I'm coming from your starting point. With the difficulties you're having, maybe
I don't want anything to do with grid view but I understand your frustration. I

Hi Sieghard,

Thanks for the tips. I have the document on my laptop now. Here's
another novice question. When I make changes to the document on the
laptop (with the doc still in the One Drive folder), will the changes
automatically appear on my phone the next time I access it there?

Yes, you can use the rotor within iAssociates to switch between characters or
words when you flick up & down. I do this when I am unsure what voiceovers
garbled speech has read. I swear at times voiceover sounds like she is talking
