It's a player of audio books. It does support in reading a text document in

I'm glad it was on AppleVis since a search of the App Store did not
turn up anything helpful for me. Now I know to search for Boop Light
detector. I'm going to put this on my phone as well. though I don't
use the light detector often, it does come in really handy at times. I
also like that Boop can vibrate to let you know a light is on; nice
feature.

Hi Regina. How are you? Well, I. Don't know any place whre tey sell  a braille 
disply cheap. I bought my focus 14 blue braille display second handed form sme 
one. Freedom scientific sell it for 1300 dollars,adn I have a brailenot apex, 
but tht my rehab counselor or Division of Blind Services bought it on 2012 for 
me. So I don't know any other cheap displays. I herd of one, but don't remember

I bought this tuner and although it works well for some reason it doesn't 
automatically speak the cents sharp or flat or in tune so I have to keep 
touching the screen. I have a friend with it and his talks automatically. 
Anyone know why this might be?

A gn guitar tuning app is Talking Tuner.  It's a great one.  I use it to tune 
both my six and twelve string guitars.  I got it for 99 cents.

Hi Reggie,  Here are 3 different good braille displays.  Focus 14 Blue, Vario 
Ultra 20, and Hims Smart Beattle 14 are good.   I would not suggest the orbit

Multi-Point Bluetooth Keyboard

I know there use to be a Logitech K810 or similar that supported Bluetooth 
connections to multiple desktop and mobile devices. 

Are folks here using a keyboard that has a button/switch that can fast-switch 
to a given Bluetooth device? If so, which do you recommend?

Orbit reader 20 is a new revolutionary 20 cell braille display made by orbit 
research and American printing house for the blind. It is going to cost around 
500 US dollars. I think it will hit the market this summer. It supports 
connecting via USB and Bluetooth, as well as some basic note-taking 
capabilities.
If you want another known solution, you can look for the smart beatles from 
hims, which is 14 cell display around 1200 dollars, focus 14 by 
freedomscientific is another option in the same price range.

Hi Richard,

 

I found that heading level button but unfortunately, it shows only two heading 
levels. I'm sure I inserted headings all the way through heading 5 in my Word 
docx file even though not too many at that level. I'm not sure why they weren't 
all captured properly but that's what happens sometimes when moving from one 
app to the next and trying to port over a feature.

 

I appreciate all your help.

After you double tap on headings, bookmarks and highlights, check out the upper 
right corner of the screen.

You should find a heading level radio button. See if you can get it to heading 
level 5, then all your headings should show up.

sign in multiples for the desired heading level. Unfortunately, this needs to 
be done in a txt file and it's not going to be practical when going through 
multiple edit iterations where someone other than me is doing the editing. 
Microsoft Word would be fine if marking all the headings would consistently 
retain those levels when saving it as filtered html or converting it to epub 
using Codex. So far, I'm not getting that consistent treatment. And I've 
decided that trying to use the Word app itself is a fool's errand at least with 
respect to my particular document Which is about 27 pages long. The  last time 
I tried opening the docx file in the Word app, my iPhone hung and I could feel 
it growing warmer in my hand while it was trying to open the file. I upgraded 
to the latest version of Word but this didn't improve things so I've given up 
on it.

 

I'll come up with some sort of workaround during the editing phase and will 
probably use Markdown Pad 2 after the document is finalized to produce a nice 
navigable copy I can read and navigate using the rotor set to headings from 
within the Dropbox app. I've had the best success navigating documents on my 
iPhone that have been marked using the Markup rules. I wish it was more 
convenient to use in my situation with ongoing edits and shared files.

I don't think Voice Dream WRITER will work because it only reads txt files, 
though it can export to Word files.

That is unless you and the others working on the document would do it in txt 
and use the mark up language Winston uses in writer.

One Number Sign before a heading makes it heading level 1, two Number Signs 
converts to heading level 2, etc.

Then, when it is time for the final version, assuming there is a final version, 
you could export it as Word or RTF.

Here are some of the reasons I like Writer over other writing apps.

1. It was written for a visually impaired audience so the accessibility is 
excellent.
2. You can use the markup language to format documents.
3. With a formatted document, you can move whole sections easily, like cut and 
paste a paragraph very simply.
You can export to RTF or Word with the formatting.
I could go on about the spell checker, dictionary, etc., but I won't.
Plus, right now it is 70 percent off so, $2.99 instead of $9.99.
If you get it, read the manual carefully, and possibly more than once.

While I wish you all the best on your what's app book group, I'd appreciate it 
if you wouldn't hijack my thread to talk about it. When you reply to a message 
on these lists, even if you change the subject and delete all the history, 
email clients and apps are smart enough to track it and continue to link it to

There really is no reason to stab the iPhone or bend your fingers by pressing 
to hard, in fact, many gestures work better with a light touch. I have my 3D 
Touch set to "light" because I hate to press down very hard.

had to press much more lightly than I was used to. I usually have 3d touch off

enjoyable upgrade. Things just work so much better. I upgraded from a 6 to a 7. 
I'm getting much bettter results from the camera when I use KNFB Reader to read 
mail or apps like Tap Tap See to identify things.

One thing you may want to do is be ware of 3d touch. I struggled to type in
my passcode because I didn't realise that 3d touch would be on by default
and I had to press much more lightly than I was used to. I usually have 3d
touch off but have begun to experiment. Other than that, it was a pretty
smooth and enjoyable upgrade. Things just work so much better. I upgraded
from a 6 to a 7. I'm getting much bettter results from the camera when I
use KNFB Reader to read mail or apps like Tap Tap See to identify things.

The only time you enter a passcode with the fingerprint ID is 
when you restart the iphone or if your fingerprint doesn't match.

With me being partially deaf, I find the Talking Tuner app great.  
It's slow at times to get it right, for me anyway, but it works.

But agree with first question, I find Talking Tuner a bit of a

that are just tone generators to tune to.

I bet Bill Brown does a talk-through type guitar tutorial too, 
since he does so many others.

Last year I found a podcast that demonstrated dictation on the 
iphone.  It explained punctuation, going to a new paragraph, and 
many things that I was unaware of.  I have searched high and low 
for this podcast.  I searched applevis with no luck.  Does anyone 
else remember this podcast, or can anyone help with dictation.  I 
know how to insert basic punctuation, but, would like to learn 
more such as capitalization, new paragraph  Thanks in

use it to tune both my six and twelve string guitars.  I got it 
for 99 cents.

I finally got around to setting it up on my device just now. its fairly simple,

Upgraded to iPhone 7/Tips

Hi All,

 

Earlier today I upgraded from my iPhone 5C to an iPhone 7.

 

All of my settings and data were transferred which is great.  I know that I
need to go to the Apple Store and reinstall my other apps but was wondering
if anyone has any tips for a new iPhone 7 user?

Alan,
After you double tap on headings, bookmarks and highlights, check out the upper 
right corner of the screen.
You should find a heading level radio button. See if you can get it to heading 
level 5, then all your headings should show up.

I finally got around to setting it up on my device just now. its fairly simple, 
but it does require you have a phone number. My other iPhone doesn't have a 
phone number associated with it, so setup might be a tad more involved there.

Codex was very fast at converting my docx file to epub format which I added to 
Voice Dream Reader and the headings now show up. Well, at least some of the 
headings show up. I used heading 1 through heading 5 when marking up the docx 
file with the large majority being Heading 1 and heading 2 items. However, when 
opening the epub file in Voice Dream, only heading levels 1 and 2 are present. 
I'm scratching my head about that. The other odd thing is that I left the 
filename identical to the source docx file with the only difference being the 
extension of epub. For some reason, Voice Dream tagged the filename as unknown 
after importing it. Voice Dream doesn't seem to allow you to edit the name of 
the imported document. I'm assuming the name presented must be a special field 
in the epub document but I'm not sure about the best way to edit an epub 
document. Does Codex let you do that?

 

I'm a big fan of the markup feature of Voice Dream Writer and also have a 
utility called Markdown Pad 2 that is great for adding headings using the pound 
sign in multiples for the desired heading level. Unfortunately, this needs to 
be done in a txt file and it's not going to be practical when going through 
multiple edit iterations where someone other than me is doing the editing. 
Microsoft Word would be fine if marking all the headings would consistently 
retain those levels when saving it as filtered html or converting it to epub 
using Codex. So far, I'm not getting that consistent treatment. And I've 
decided that trying to use the Word app itself is a fool's errand at least with 
respect to my particular document Which is about 27 pages long. The  last time 
I tried opening the docx file in the Word app, my iPhone hung and I could feel 
it growing warmer in my hand while it was trying to open the file. I upgraded 
to the latest version of Word but this didn't improve things so I've given up 
on it.

 

I'll come up with some sort of workaround during the editing phase and will 
probably use Markdown Pad 2 after the document is finalized to produce a nice 
navigable copy I can read and navigate using the rotor set to headings from 
within the Dropbox app. I've had the best success navigating documents on my 
iPhone that have been marked using the Markup rules. I wish it was more 
convenient to use in my situation with ongoing edits and shared files.

Well, at least Codex is fast, grin.

I don't think Voice Dream WRITER will work because it only reads txt files, 
though it can export to Word files.

That is unless you and the others working on the document would do it in txt 
and use the mark up language Winston uses in writer.

One Number Sign before a heading makes it heading level 1, two Number Signs 
converts to heading level 2, etc.

Then, when it is time for the final version, assuming there is a final version, 
you could export it as Word or RTF.

I’ve had these issues recently myself and I clicked on feedback right when the 
app opens sent off a quick message and it was resolved within hours and hasn’t 
happened again since. Try contacting them. If you don’t want to compose the

As I said in another post as of yet they’ve never written back but as if by 
magic whatever I report seems to be resolved quickly and efficiently once

Parcel Track assigns you an inbox email address which starts with a number
to send tracking numbers to. When I send a tracking number to the parcel
track app the email ends up in the mail box but says not found.

I don't know if the method you're using is supported but I simply forward the 
shipping notification email I receive from the shipper containing the tracking 
number to my Parceltrack inbox and that normally works. I have had a couple of 
instances when it didn't take either due to bad timing or something else. When 
that happens, I just add the tracking number and description manually in the 
app.

addition, the app is very accessible. In the US, its not popular like here, but 
I know some blind people who use it. There are also groups on WhatsApp, and you 
can send voice messages in there instead of typing.
