If somebody doesn't use many apps or doesn't set up email on their phone the
only problem with not
protecting the phone with a passcode is that if it were ever stolen it would
make it super-easy for
the thiefs to use or sell the phone as a fully functioning phone. You may not
have sensitive
information on your phone and your Apple Id and is not necessarily compromised
since even if
somebody stole your iPhone they wouldn't know your password, but if you have
email set up on the
phone you do actually have sensitive information on it because somebody could
simply request a
change of your password and often this involves a link being emailed where you
have to click on it
to confirm so giving somebody access to yoru email actually represents a huge
security thread to
many of your online accounts.

Re: push notifications in tweetings

2018-10-13 Thread Maria Reyes
Hi Rebecca,
Recently Twitter has made some not so good changes to their API so
notifications don’t really work in third party apps like Tweetings. You’ll have
to get the original twitter app to get notifications.

On Oct 13, 2018, at 12:23 PM, Rebecca Ilniski

Hi all. I redownloaded tweetings from the ap store. I tried to reenable push
notifications but keep getting the error message that they aren’t set up in my
settings. I went in to settings and all notifications are on. I went to try
and register for push notifications but they don’t work. I don’t know whether
I’m using the free version or paid version because there’s nowhere to restore
purchases and it doesn’t say tweetings pro or tweetings lite to indicate which
version you are using. Thanks for any help you can give.

Re: Deleting podcasts from podcast app

2018-10-13 Thread Maria Reyes
Hi Judy,
To delete a podcast from the podcast app go to your library tab and find the
shows button. Double tap on that and flick until you hear edit. Double tap.
Then find the podcast you want to delete and swipe up until you hear remove. If
there is a confirmation double tap on delete. Then go to the done button at the
top of the screen and double tap it.

One password help

2018-10-13 Thread Amy Ruell
Hello,
I have started with 1Password but can’t seem to auto fill or auto generate new
passwords for existing accounts. The instructions tell me to open the apps on
my iPhone and to select my user name, but when I open an app, it already signs
me in, so I don’t seem to be able to do that. Any suggestions greatly
appreciated. I have already tried signing out of an account, but I still don’t
see the set up they describe.

On Behalf of a V iPhone Member, Regarding the Messages App in iOS 11.x

2018-10-13 Thread M. Taylor
Original Message:
From: Todd Patkus [mailto:tpte...@gmail.com]
Subject: For ViPhone members

Mark et al,

I just noticed that some messages in an entry of my friend are gone. Before
that issue popped up, ALL messages between sender and recipients were
properly saved for reviewing conversations, but now only a few messages
exist.

What is the root cause of that behavior? Is there a way to stop from losing
messages in the message app?

Running iOS 11.4.1.

Please contact me offline to the given address above.

Thank y'all.

Todd

Well I hope it is fixed Devin. I agree Sieghaard its too bad that the native

Re: Some blindness aps and games devs, disappoint in their attitudes towards

2018-10-13 Thread Mary Otten
Hi richard,
Yes, I have recently successfully imported and read an image file that I got
from my physician. I certainly didn’t understand all of the numbers, smile. But
I did understand the bottom line. And it was definitely an image based file,
because I first opened it in the mail program, and it was empty or blank. I had
that problem before, where it wouldn’t read. But some update our other fixed it
for me.

RE: Some blindness aps and games devs, disappoint in their attitudes towards

2018-10-13 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Mary,
Have you done that successfully since the 3.x update?
It stopped working for me when they did their update and even the latest 3.1 or
whatever the heck it is, it will not import a PDF and do squat.

I agree about the cost for KNFB reader being too high. But it does have one
other thing that you can do that seeing a I can’t. You can import an image
based PDF file and get a decent text.

RE: Some blindness aps and games devs, disappoint in their attitudes towards

2018-10-13 Thread Richard Turner
Frankly, KNFB Reader isn't worth the $100 US it costs and would certainly not
be worth the 1884.70 in Mexico.

The only advantages it has over Seeing AI is that you can do multiple pages and
save them as one document.
I suppose also that you only have to be about 12 inches or so above a document
with KNFB Reader, and while you can manually take a picture at that height with
Seeing AI, it won't do its automatic scan until you get about 18 inches or so
above the page.

Seeing AI costs nothing.

Just my 37 centavos worth.

and whenever I find an app that I personally feel would benefit the blind
(especially those here in Latin America and other Spanish-speaking blind folks)
I send an EMail to the devs of these aps, with generally interest in me
featuring their apps in the before-mentioned podcast, which has an average
listenership of between 800-1600 monthly, depending on the apps or services

funds for.kn

Re: Some blindness aps and games devs, disappoint in their attitudes towards

2018-10-13 Thread Michael Feir
Have to agree here. Having a game cheeper in one country than another just
doesn't make sense. I'm Canadian and have certainly seen prices for apps
rise drastically over the past while. However, there have also been brief
periods where our dollar was higher than the US dollar. Apple is an
American company so it makes sense that prices are based on the US economy.

Honestly, I think we've been somewhat spoiled when it comes to app prices.
Making a living as an appdeveloper isn't easy. Software like OCR or GPS
software which does equivalent things on other platforms has been
stupendously expensive when compare to even the highest app prices. It
doesn't surpriise me that some apps like Ulysses are going to a
subscription model. I love that app and am a happy subscriber understanding
that in order to keep development steady and safe, you need a steady
income. Appps which don't have inapp purchases or subscriptions have to
survive on waves of income based on one-time sales. They have to focus on
features for each new update which might possibly attract new good reviews
and customers rather than develop what they have more systematically.

I'm working on a guide for blind owners of iOS devices. I plan to release
that guide for free, but it's taken me a long time to do it. I'll have
spent three years on this when it's hopefully ready in March. It's over
14 words long now and will probably be over 20 words when it's
done. Unlike most app developers I've heard about, I'm in a situation where
I can afford to spend my time and effort doing this. Most of them really
struggle financially even after they release their apps. It also costs
money to have an app in the app store as well as time and effort to
maintain it after it's out there. Do you realise Apple takes a 30% cut of
all app sales? Because I'm giving my gide away, I don't have those kind of
continued costs to worry about. On the flip side, I don't have any sort of
budget for advertising and distributing it.

I'm on social assistance and absolutely get how hard it can be to afford
some of the more useful apps. However, similar to books, I understand just
enough of what developers have to go through to have some real sympathy for
them. If I had my way, I'd be able to travel to new owners of these devices
and help them get an understanding of how to operate them and the scope of
what's possible with them. However, that would be well beyond what my
finances could stand. Writing the guide and recording the lectures are what
is possible within my circumstances. Developers also have other stresses in
life and hard financial realities to deal with. I think most people who
create things wish they could do more to make them spread and be more
affordable than is usually possible.

yes true; I too is a dream comb true on all what the iPhone offhrs for us. I
was just curious if I was the only one who have experienced these ups and
downs. I.m sure I.m not the only one who colaborates on blindness blindness
blogs, and ocasionally ask for promo codes on apps, right? I try and purchase
all I can of course, but nevertheless this is kind of surprising some of these
attitudes.

RE: Deleting podcasts from podcast app

2018-10-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Judy,

I can't answer your actual question, but one thing I can tell you is that I
really tried to use the native Podcast app, but I gave up some time earlier
this year and went back to Overcast where everything works fine, it's easy to
use, has more features with respec to playback than the Podcast app and all in
all it just works, sorry, Steve Jobbs, that is not so much what one can say
about the Apple Podcast app.
I generally speaking feel that if Apple has an app which works really well for
something then I'll use it. The Mail app is one example, I think it's well
designed and works great and I don't see a reason to use the iOS Outlook app,
butwhen it comes to Podcasts Apple just doesn't seem to get it.

Re: Some blindness aps and games devs, disappoint in their attitudes towards

2018-10-13 Thread Herv
It's been like that ever since apps were invented.
It starts in USD, and then apple converts into your currency depending on your
location.
Sucks because the US dollar is quite high right now, but nothing to cry about.
Developers aren't going to make an app's price based on your location.
Do you know how many times they'd have to relist the app?
Be happy we have it at all.
I remember the accessibility we had 10 years ago, so I'm thankful for what I
have.

push notifications in tweetings

2018-10-13 Thread Rebecca Ilniski
Hi all. I redownloaded tweetings from the ap store. I tried to reenable
push notifications but keep getting the error message that they aren't set
up in my settings. I went in to settings and all notifications are on. I
went to try and register for push notifications but they don't work. I
don't know whether I'm using the free version or paid version because
there's nowhere to restore purchases and it doesn't say tweetings pro or
tweetings lite to indicate which version you are using. Thanks for any help
you can give.

RE: Question about voice dream reader content sources

2018-10-13 Thread Richard Turner
I'm not so sure the developers would have any idea of your web site.
The communication is from your web site to your device. You are not uploading
them to the developers. You are pointing your device to your web site.

Unless you share your web site with someone else, I don't see how it could be
accessed, unless it is a publicly accessible site.

Just my opinion,

 Dear All
Voice dream reader allows you to add a content source of your liking from there
you can download your book or documents

I want to add a personal website where I store some documents My question is
whether it’s possible and will it remain personal to me VDR developers are
likely to know that website I just don’t wanted to become public Any
thoughts on that ?

iCloud addresses and mailing lists?

2018-10-13 Thread Adam Morris

Hi all,
I have heard from a number of people using iCloud addresses that if they
are subscribed to a list like this one that if they post messages they
don't see a copy of their message and it goes to the junk folder.
Is there a way to stop this happening so they know their message reaches
the list.
At present the only way they know the message has reached the list is if
someone replies.

TIA.

RE: iOS 12 tips: 7 security settings you need to check right now, USA Today

2018-10-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If somebody doesn't use many apps or doesn't set up email on their phone the
only problem with not protecting the phone with a passcode is that if it were
ever stolen it would make it super-easy for the thiefs to use or sell the phone
as a fully functioning phone. You may not have sensitive information on your
phone and your Apple Id and is not necessarily compromised since even if
somebody stole your iPhone they wouldn't know your password, but if you have
email set up on the phone you do actually have sensitive information on it
because somebody could simply request a change of your password and often this
involves a link being emailed where you have to click on it to confirm so
giving somebody access to yoru email actually represents a huge security thread
to many of your online accounts.

Yes or donate them to those blind people but who really deserve them.
Especially here in latin America, I’ve seen lots of blind folks have to buy
used ones, or have family/friends pass along theirs.
