You normally don't see bugs being introduced in versions like this.

These versions fix things and close security gaps.

Re: Text editing with braille displays

2021-10-12 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi,

I saw this issue in the betas. Originally it happened everywhere, but it
happened less and less as the betas went along; it didn't happen in Notes,
Mail, or Messages by the time of release. What app are you using? I would
suggest for now writing your text in Notes and then pasting it into the
problematic app.

Good luck,
Anna

Siri and Emails

2021-10-12 Thread Richard Turner
I just received the below message from Apple Accessibility:
Hello Richard,

We wanted to follow up to let you know that you are once again able to ask Siri
to write, send, and check unread emails. Reinstating Siri actions to check call
history and voicemail will take a bit more time, and we will bring back this
functionality in an upcoming iOS software update.

Sincerely,

Apple Accessibility

Hint for playing latest version of seven little words

2021-10-12 Thread Sherrie Gosling
At first I was a bit frustrated trying to play the latest version of seven
little words. I practically had to pound on the screen to make it register
which tile I wanted. I wrote about this problem to the company and got a reply
back that said they were working on it but it seemed the first tap highlighted
the tile and messed up the double tapso I started trying a single finger triple
tap and it works great! When in the clues section the triple tap still changes
from Characters two words when using the two finger swipe rightbut just about
every other place a triple tap with regular amount of pressure does the trick.
I also discovered that if you wait for the word button to be spoken and then
immediately double tap it works some of the time. But the triple tap is much
more dependable.
I do love being able to swipe from section to section.

I have 15.0.2 and I just asked siri how far dallas was

But as the crow flies,

It's about 12728 Km

I guess flyings a better option as driving might get wet and I'm not sure where
the closest gas station is after north cape,

RE: Caller ID.

2021-10-12 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Carolyn,

How do you mean

If you get a call,

You could always flick across to see the callers name on the screen by
highlighting it,

That’s probably the best / simplist way to find the names.

Is it possible to get the phone to announce the caller twice on an 11? Thanks.

Sorry I believe I sent my last reply to the wrong address by mistake.
I have turned off automatic translation but still hhaving this repeating letter
problem. It seems to not be happening in Mail though - I've tried twice to
create examples of the issue here but it refuses to do it for me.
Perhaps it's a problem with this display.

Re: Text editing with braille displays

2021-10-12 Thread Renee Patete
Sorry I believe I sent my last reply to the wrong address by mistake.
I have turned off automatic translation but still hhaving this repeating letter
problem. It seems to not be happening in Mail though - I've tried twice to
create examples of the issue here but it refuses to do it for me.
Perhaps it's a problem with this display.

I'm using the Unified English Braille code, the standard code in my country
since 2004. I also have automatic translation on. However, it isn't expanding
to its print equivalent, but just repeating letters from the other words. I'll
try turning it off anyway.

RE: Text editing with braille displays

2021-10-12 Thread Richard Turner
We need to know a few things to help.

One, what are your braille settings? IN particular, which braille code you are
using and under the braille input setting, are you using uncontracted or
contracted, and is automatic translation on or off?
If automatic translation is on, try turning it off to see if that makes a
difference while editing. I suspect when editing a word, it is expanding
everything to its print translation, so entering t, gets that, instead of a t.

Yes, i see what you mean. It takes practice, but it’s still tricky! I think the
most important requirement is an extremely light touch!Do you think Control
Panel could be somehow added to the list of Quick Keys? That would be
convenient. Thanks

RE: Voice Clock won't start at my appointed start time.

2021-10-12 Thread dm-hill
Hi Robin,

It does do the quarter hours. The only way I accidentally got it to work is
that on the setting screen I turned the announce of the quarter hours on and
off a couple of times. When you hear it chime, you know it is on. That is if it
is on, it will chime right away.

By the way, I also turned on the clock display. The chiming started working
after that, but I an not sure if it was turning the display of the clock on or
the repeated turning the chime on and off.

Good Luck!

Take care and stay safe!

I’m trying to get Voice Clock to work with no stop time. What I mean is I have
it start at midnight, and it stops at 11:59 p.m., essentially going 24 hours a
day. When it’s working, it works great. Problem is it stops at the indicated

open the app, and it works again until the next night.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any help.

RE: gesture to get to the control center on the home screen

2021-10-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hello Penny,

You could set up the back tap or another gesture to bring up control center as
you can now customize gestures and taps in Voiceover Settings.
I would furthermore argue there is no need for any additional implementation of
how you can get to control and notification center because the gestures are
exactly the reverse of the gestures used for Hone and the App Switcher and from
what I hear very few people who switch from phones with a home button to one
without complain about these gestures after they get used to them. .

Yes, i see what you mean. It takes practice, but it’s still tricky! I think the
most important requirement is an extremely light touch!Do you think Control
Panel could be somehow added to the list of Quick Keys? That would be
convenient. Thanks

RE: gesture to get to the control center on the home screen

2021-10-12 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you slide down until you feel the first vibration (you also hear a little
sound) and then lift your finger that is control center.
If you want notification center then you slide past the first vibration/sound
until you get to the second and lift your finger.
It is identical to when you swipe up from the bottom where the first vibration/
sound takes you to the home screen when you are in an app and the second one
brings up the app switcher except that you start from the status bar and not
from the bottom. But everybody has to learn how to do the swipe from the bottom
for Home and App Switcher so you might as well get used to it for Control and
Notification Center instead of using the old method which I find takes longer
because you still have to touch the status bar and then you have to do a second
3-finger swipe up from the bottom or down from the top whereas using the other
way it's basically all one gesture, you touch the status bar and immediately
swipe down.

You said to let go after the first haptic feedback, then to slide down farther
to get to the notification center. I thought you were just supposed to slide
down until you got to the second feedback without picking your finger up.

Word game puzzle between 2 users?

2021-10-12 Thread Steve Spamer
Hi.

A year or so ago, I came back to IOS and the iPhone after owning an Android
device for about 4 years, prior to that I had an iPhone 4. I remember having
a word puzzle game that 2 users could play, but I can't remember it's name.

Basically, you were given a number of letters to create a word with and you
got a score depending on the strength of that word, the winner was the
person with the best score of course.

So, does anyone know what that game was from the description or does anyone
know of an accessible game that allows 2 people to play with words, similar
to the Dice World concept?

Best steve.

Re: Considering the new Apple Watch

2021-10-12 Thread Renee Patete
Hi,
I haven't been told of any specific issues, just something about the screen
reader itself (not the voices) being "broken". I think this may have been in
relation to series 6, so I'd just like to see if blind users are still using
the Apple Watch with the screen reader running in the present day, to confirm
that it will be OK.
I have also heard that there are new hand gestures with the watch in OS 8. Do
these work OK with the voice running?

Sorry everyone, I didn't realise that the watch was being released on 15
October all over the world. I live in the Southern Hemisphere so thought that
people in the US and elsewhere might have been able to get it first. My
apologies for the misunderstanding.

Hi Renee,

I'm awaiting my new one to arrive in the next few weeks.

As for it's synthasizer
It should be the same as you get on the watch OS 8 as the watch series 7 will
use that OS out of the box.

Other than that,
What types of issues are you being in formed of?

As the watch has not yet been released to market,
And wont be until the 15th October which is this coming Friday.

I am a new member here, so I hope this email goes to the right place.
The Apple Watch series 7 arrives in my country this week, and I am considering
getting one to replace my now broken series 4. However, I have heard somewhere
that the screen reader may no longer be very good on the new watches. Can
anyone who has had experience with the new one please let me know whether it is
still as accessible as it used to be? I have no remaining vision, so need a
completely reliable screen reader.
Thank you in advance,
