2022-09-17 Thread Penny Reeder
It seems to me that i read somewhere that there is an incompatibility between
IOS 16 and Voice Dream Reader. Maybe i read about it in a message from
AppleVis. I am sure that Apple and the Voice Dream Reader developer must be
working to solve the problem. In any event, that is why i’m waiting to install
16. I hope this helps. Penny

VoiceOver Doesn't Read Back the Dictated Text?

2022-09-17 Thread Fazil M.
Hi, Group.

I have iOS16.0 On iPhone8 &12.

In iPhone8, when I double tap with two fingers after the dictating my text,
VoiceOver reads back to me my dictated text, whereas iPhone12 doesn't do it.
I would like the text read back to me.

Do I need some changes in settings for this?

Thanks!

Re: iphone app to check blood pressure

2022-09-17 Thread Andy Baracco

I got a talking unit from Amazon for $29.95.
i do not recall the brand, but it is a traditional cabled unit, no
connectivity with smart devices. It talks you through the entire process and
speaks the BP, pulse, and tells you the category of the reading, i. e. low,
normal, mild, moderate, or severe hypertension. You can store readings
within the device, and even get an average over time, but there is no way to
export the information.

Well worth the money though.

just search on Amazon for talking blood pressure monitor.

I have a talking blood pressure unit from some brand called Yu Well I got

readings. It's completely VoiceOver accessible. Something like $10 a year.

Are you kidding me I'd love that! Seriously I'd love that! Have you
ever experienced a blood pressure cuff that squeezed again before it
had even completely let up because there was an error like you had it
too low on your arm or something? That's happened to me numerous
times, but the last time it did that, it squeezed so hard and it
seemed to take a long time before it stopped, and I don't think it's
considered claustrophobia because when you're claustrophobic, you feel
scared in a confined space, but I felt like I would never get my arm
out ever again. I got so scared my mom had to come over and press on
the power button I guess it is, so the air would go out and the cuff
would let up. If there would be an app, that would be fantastic! Please,
let me know! Thanks.

The other question is would I need to purchase an Apple watch or just
use some type of app strictly with the phone? Thanks in advance.

Carolyn, I don't use hearing aids, but I've had this issue with VO being at a
very low volume during a phone call. What I've started doing is pressing the
side button three times to turn VO off once the call is picked up at the other
end, and then immediately press it three times to restart VO. Usually VO will
come back on at whatever volume I had it set to when I made the phone call.
It's faster than trying to find the rotor and not being able to hear VO.

Hope this helps.

On another list a guy said to:

Go to Accessibility in Setting and to Hearing and Audio, and you'd find the

They are only for the new iPhone 14. Perhaps only the pro models, so if you
have a new 14 pro, it will be in settings.
Where exactly I have no idea.

I am assuming that you are referring to repeat mode, which means when it gets to the end of an album or playlist, instead of stopping, it starts over or continues playing.

I will use a playlist for an example.

1, Double tap on the playlist that you want to play.

2, Start playing the playlist.

3, While it is playing, just press side button to envoke Siri, and say turn repeat on.

Now you can also ask Siri to Shuffle if you also want to do that.

Now you can also turn it on physically, so here are the instructions.

1, Double tap on playlist that you want to play.

2, I do not know how to get to it without starting to play the playlist first, so swipe to the play button and double tap play.  You can then double tap  it again or do the magic tap to stop it.

3, Go to the bottom of the screen where the taps are and swipe to the left until you get to the mini player, keep swiping until you get to album art work, then double tap that.

4, This will bring up the mini player to cover the screen.  Now go to the bottom of that screen and double tap Playing Next.  This should select it.

5, Now go back to the top of the screen.  there are probably several pages on this screen, so swipe up with 3 fingers until you hear page 1, or if you hear a bong sound, then that means that you are on page 1.

6, Now just swipe until you get to 3 choices, repeat, shuffle, and auto play. Each choice has a toggle switch, so turn on which ever you want.

Hope this helps.

Chris

RE: How useful to blind users is the Lidar sensor?

2022-09-17 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you want an iPhone 14 than I think the Pro model is definitely the way to
go, if you are thinking you want just a regular iPhone 14 you may as well look
for a good deal on an iPhone 13 since it has the same processor. You hear about
lackluster preorders for the iPhone 14 Plus in particular and I understand why,
maybe if somebody is on an iPhone 8 or earlier upgrading to a 14 or 14 Plus
would be a pretty good improvement, but anybody who has an iPhone 11, 12, 13 or
their equivalent Pro versions is probably not very tempted by an iPhone 14.
I probably still upgrade from my iPhone 11, but the only upgrade which makes
sense to me would be a 14 Pro and for me there would primarily be three reasons
and those are MagSafe, the LiDAR capability and of course improved battery life
since my iPhone 11 battery is now down to 85% capacity.

It has been marginally useful for some things, but with iOS 16 and the door
detection feature, it should become more useful for people who travel where
they need to find a door into a building or an office.

I think GoodMaps Explore is beginning to incorporate it.

The Image description in the Magnifier now even recognizes light switches on
the wall. If you go to hotels much, this could be useful as well.
Now, Door, image, and people detection may not need LIDAR unless you want to
know how far away the item is; but I'm not sure since I only have the 13 pro,
so I cannot test on something without LIDAR.

Seeing AI and other apps use it, but their image database is pretty small.

Hi listers,
I can imagine that the Lidar sensor on the iPhone has great accessibility
potentials. If there is any reason for me to have the urge to upgrade from XR
to 14 pro is to have lidar on my phone. For those of you who have phones with
lidar, how useful this has been so far? I am very curious.
I hope to hear your opinions on the subject.

I'm thinking of starting to use Dizzer music.

How is the accessibility there?

I heard its have the Flac quality, which as far as I know, it's the best
quality.

Have any of you use it?

Thanks,
