Hello all

There is another thing happening on my SE 2020 since the first 16 update. I did
write up a list and send it on to Apple Assessibility and just got disconnected
while waiting on hold to talk to them about what I will describe below.

Siri is not responding to my normal tone of voice. I have to
literally yell at the phone (and my echo device) to get her to acknowledge I
have spoken. I know to wait to hear the bonk sound, for lack of a better term,
and either way I wind up having to repeat my request twice, and you all know
how much I like doing that!

Is there some setting to mark the sensitivity of the
recognition? I don't mean speech recognition, just regular dictated speech,
once again most of the problems are when I try to use Siri from the home
screen, and I am not within an app. I guess if this persists I will simply get
trained to always do dictation within an edit field in a specific App.

   Another broken thing:

If I say go to mail settings or settings for mail, I will never
be taken to those specific settings. This was not the case with previous IOS
versions.

And, why is "mentions" in my roter? I did not put it there and
see nothing about it in the roter settings.

btw, what bugs did 16.2 fix?

Re: Containers And iPhone Weather App

2022-10-05 Thread Barbara Stahl
Hi!
You add containers to the roder by going to settings, accessibility, then
roder, then select containers.
However, this is not necessary to find out the pressure info from the native
weather. app. I personally, never use containers and access this information
all the time.
You just slide your finger down the screen til you hear the weather announced
by days rather than hours. Scroll through this and then you will reach all the
extra information like uv index, wind speed pressure visibility and so on. Its
pretty easy, but it is a slightly longer process than it used to be in previous
versions of ios. You used to be able to touch the botum of the screen where it
names your selected city and then scroll up and the information was right
there, but now if you try this you end up on the weather by days portion of the
app and must scroll back down again.

2022-10-05 Thread Carolyn
Margaret, in Weather, go to Today, flick through the days until you get to
where there is sunrise and sunset, wind speed, and eventually barometric
pressure, and it does say rising or falling - kept me company all through Ian.

Today is toward the bottom of your phone, higher than the dock is on the home

Hi, All:

I can get Siri to give me the barometric pressure by verbally asking,
but doesn't say if the pressure is rising or falling. I've been looking
for something with a little more pressure information and someone
suggested Dark Sky, but I understand it will be going away in 2023. I
found an old post from Richard which mentions pressure and some other
items like moon phase that I'm interested in being on the native weather
app.

Apparently having containers on the rotor allows more information to be
heard on the screen than I'm getting. Containers were new to me and I
sort of understand them now,but I'm not finding them on the rotor for
the screen that lists some of today's weather 10 day forecast etc.
I've got Characters; Words; Headings and Speaking Rate on the rotor

Could someone please tell me how to add containers to the rotor so I can
get this additional weather information.

I'm running IOS 15.6.1 on an iPhone SE 2020.

I'd be very grateful for any help.

Margaret

RE: Entering Patient Information In Ellume COVID Home Test

2022-10-05 Thread Debbie Downey
Hi,

I haven’t filled this info out in a few months but if you have your rotor set
to characters, when you enter your name or anything else, you can flick up on
each character to see if the name or whatever was entered correctly. You have
to be able to spell in reverse but that is how I did it.

I remember there being an issue with entering my birthday but even though it
doesn’t appear to change when you enter it; it’s correct in the end. I really
don’t remember what I did for this. Sorry about that!

Regarding the pickers, you can flick up and down to select the value in each
box, then hit the done button on the toolbar just above the pickers. I had the
same issue with entering letters for the patient data, and I do not have any
workarounds as of yet.

Subject: Entering Patient Information In Ellume COVID Home Test

I need some tips or confirmation about entering my patient information in the
Ellume COVID Home Test app.

I am using an iPhone SE 2022 and iOS 15.7. My typing style is set to touch
typing. I typically find the letter I want to enter and lift my finger to
enter the letter.

When I enter my first, middle, and last name, I hear a click when I lift my
finger on each letter. But I cannot confirm that I have entered the correct
information.

Here is my biggest problem. There are picker items for the month, day, and
year of my date of birth. I adjust each of the picker items the the correct
value and double-tap to hopefully enter the value. But when I look at the edit
field, the original values of the picker items are still there. The cursor is
positioned at the end of the date (which is today’s date). There is no delete
button to delete the value. What do I need to do to be sure the values of the
picker items are used as my birth date?

I appreciate any help that will get me through this process.

Containers And iPhone Weather App

2022-10-05 Thread Margaret Thomas

Margaret

Kay,
When I use containers in the native weather app, it jumps from the current
conditions, to Today's forecast as in Partly cloudy conditions from 4 pm-6pm
with sunny conditions expected at 6pm.
The next flick down gets me "now, partly cloudy 58 degrees."
The next flick down gets to the ten day forecast. Next is air quality,
Temperature, UV index, sunset, Wind, rainfall, feels like, humidity, visibility
Pressure, Then it seems to circle back to the 10 day forecast.

From the point where it says Now, partly cloudy 58 degrees, if I right flick,
then I get the hours through tomorrow and I then bump into the 10 day forecast.

If I right flick from the 10 day forecast, I get each day's forecast, Today,
Saturday, Sunday, etc.

I think that is everything that is on the screen.

By Apple weather, do you mean the native weather app? In the native weather
app, when you go to containers, it takes you to hourly information and then
to updates. Unfortunately, it skips the daily forecast. This is
interesting though and I will keep trying containers to see what it might do
to make navigation easier.

Containers are groups of information that you can jump between with the
rotor feature. These are kind of like regions with in an application. You
also see containers or landmarks on websites: such as navigation menus, main
page content, or footer content.

In the Apple Weather app you have: current weather, hourly weather and 10
day forecast. You can add the container option to your rotor. When you
switch the containers option you can flick down to move down the application
via containers and once you get to the container you want to explore, now
you can flick right to read the content in the container. You can also flick
up to view containers above your current reading position.

I hope this helps,
Ed

In the default weather app on the iPhone you do not have to navigate it
line by line. If you have the containers option in your rotor you can jump
between the sections such as current conditions, hourly, daily forecast
and even jump down to the bottom of the app to read amount of rain, temp
details, sun and moon phases, etc.

Do you have the 5000MA one or the 1MA one? I've heard from
reviews of the 5000MA one, that your phone and the charger will get a
little warm. I'd purchase the 1MA one when I can save up $80.

after rebooting the phone, do the 2 finger quadruple tap and you should find it
in the quick settings if you left it turned on in VoiceOver Recognition.

Then it might show up in the settings ... this is not one of Apple's better
attempts at a feature.

Subject: Screen Recognition and Quick Settings, mystery sort of cleared up

First, Screen Recognition came in with iOS 14 though it was seldom talked about
until iOS 15.

To have it show up in Quick Settings, you have to first turn it on under
Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, VoiceOver Recognition.

If it is not on there, it will not be in Quick Settings.

I tested this by turning it off under VoiceOver Recognition and sure enough, it
disappeared from Quick Settings.

When I turned it back on in VoiceOver Recognition, I had to reboot the phone
before it showed up again in quick Settings. Not sure why, but that is what I
did.

My recommendation is don’t have it in the rotor, but just in quick settings.
There are other settings you may find it better to have in Quick Settings
instead of in the Rotor.

Once again to review, quick Settings is launched with a 2 finger quadruple tap.
It functions like the rotor, but since you have to be more intentional about
bringing it up, you won’t find yourself changing voice speaking rate when you
wanted to jump by headings, etc.

You can also enable Screen Recognition for specific apps once you figure out it
helps in that app by going into VoiceOver Recognition, Screen Recognition and
double tapping on apps, and selecting the apps for which you want it to default
to on.

after rebooting the phone, do the 2 finger quadruple tap and you should find it
in the quick settings if you left it turned on in VoiceOver Recognition.

You can also enable Screen Recognition for specific apps once you figure out it
helps in that app by going into VoiceOver Recognition, Screen Recognition and
double tapping on apps, and selecting the apps for which you want it to default
to on.

RE: Text Messaging Question

2022-10-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Turning on do not disturb does not prevent somebody from receiving a message,
they simply don't get a notification, but the message is still delivered.
I think if you were strictly on WiFi with no cell coverage this would happen if
you send an SMS because I don't think you can send an SMS on just a Wi-Fi data
connection, only iMessages and of course messages in apps like WhatsApp,
Facebook Messenger and so on can be sent, but not a regular text message. For
that you need a good old cell connection.
It is more likely an issue on your end than on their end because strictly
speaking I don't think you have to turn on the Sent as SMS if iMessage is
unavailable, this would only effect users of iOS devices who normally get their
message as an iMessage.
I think if the message fails to send it fails on your end.

That sounds more like a network error. Are you on Wi-Fi when this happens? If

If on cellular, then I would bet it is a network issue.

I have never had a faled to send error.

If you are sending audio or pictures, also make sure Send As MMS is on.

Make sure you turn on the setting to send as text message if iMessage is
unavailable. Almost sounds like it has to do with the carrier, it almost never
happens to me whether I send as iMessage or as text message.

The other possibility is either the number was wrong, or for some reason the
person isn’t receiving messages at the time; maybe they have do not disturb on
or something. This is worth checking with Apple Accessibility. 877-204-3930

2022-10-05 Thread chrisjudge1967
I find if I’ve just added a contact and attempt to send a message using siri
for the first time I get the message failed to send. Not always, but quite
frequently. If I go in and manually compose and send the text it works fine.
The next time I send with siri it seems fine as well.

My new SE 2020 is working fine in that regard too. Although I really don't
like the new Siri start sound, I can barely hear it since it's so low and

Sounds like some kind of issue with your phones mike. I'm on the
latest update and Siri is working just fine. The only time I have to
repeat myself is when my wifi connection isn't working, or I'm out of

Hi Holly,

According to Apple Accessibility or, at least the person I talked to, if I were
to update to iOS16 that would solve the problem but, apparently not. Maybe
this only happens with certain model phones? I would be curious to find out
what they would say to someone running iOS16 on an SE2020 phone. Well, I'll
wait and see what happens. Thanks for the input.

I am not richard, but here is an example of what he is talking about I believe.
Open a Mail message. Set your rotor to read by word, or character, or line, it
doesn’t really matter. Flick down to read a couple of words or whatever. Then
flick once to the right. The next time you flick down, your rotor will have
changed and you will be sent to the bottom where you have your choice to trash
the message or whatever. In my case, every time it says trash. So the rotor is
switching just because I make a flick to the right without changing anything.
I’m sure there are others, but this one is easy to duplicate.

After my experience with the BARDMobile app and screen recognition accidentally
getting turned on, I have taken it out of the rotor and put it in Quick
Settings.
The advantage is that it cannot be accidentally turned on.
Until Apple fixes the Rotor so it doesn’t randomly change what is focused,
accidentally turning on various settings will happen.
This one can reak havvoc, so moving it to Quick Settings will lessen the
problems it can cause while leaving it available for those places where it may
be useful.
To open Quick Settings, do a two finger quadruple tap. Find the setting you
want to enable and do a one finger double tap.

I agree. A wireless charger isn't necessary, but like Sieghard, I do find it a
bit more convenient, so I don't regret what I've spent on wireless chargers. I
don't have a mag safe charger, but I do have a leather case. I don't know what
kind of marks a mag safe charger leaves on leather cases, but IMHO, one of the
appeals of a leather case is how they wear over time and become uniquely yours.

Everybody has their preference, I personally find a charging pad much more
convenient, I have one at my desk at work, on my bedside table and in the
living room and just putting the phone down on the charging pad to me is easier
than having to grab a cable and plug it in. Then of course there is the fact
that I still really like to use the wired Earpods and I couldn't use them if I
had my phone plugged in to charge unless I buy one of these splitters which
would mean another gadget which is sitting around and which ultimately ends up
in the landfill because by all indications the iPhone 15 will have a USB-C port
so at that point all the Lightning cables and such will start to become
obsolede.
I have an iPhone 11 and have no plans to upgrade until the earliest next year
when the iPhone 15 will be released so I don't have MagSafe but if I were
tempted to upgrade than it would also be to an iPhone 14 Pro because of LiDAR
and MagSafe. My only complaint with wireless charging is that it is relatively
easy to move the phone especially if I use my wired Earpods in the evening, not
difficult to pull a bit on them and the phone is out of position to charge,
MagSafe would prevent this since the phone is stuck on the charger. It would
also be a lot easier to use an external battery with Magsafe technology, once
again, it would leave the Lightning port available for a wired headset and I
wouldn't need a cable to connect the phone to the battery.

I was unimpressed with the mag safe technology. The charging pad still needs to
be plugged in so I can just plug in my iPhone once a day.
Also, I wanted a leather case and mag safe chargers make noticeable marks in
the leather case, destroying its elegance.

after rebooting the phone, do the 2 finger quadruple tap and you should find it
in the quick settings if you left it turned on in VoiceOver Recognition.

You can also enable Screen Recognition for specific apps once you figure out it
helps in that app by going into VoiceOver Recognition, Screen Recognition and
double tapping on apps, and selecting the apps for which you want it to default
to on.

RE: SE 2020

2022-10-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Maybe your microphone is dirty or defective, I have no issues with Siri
understanding me, last night I wanted her to do a conversion and my wife was
already sleeping and while I held the iPhone quite close to me I basically
whispered it to Siri and my request was recognized just fine.

Subject: SE 2020

Hello all
There is another thing happening on my SE 2020 since the first 16 update. I did
write up a list and send it on to Apple Assessibility and just got disconnected
while waiting on hold to talk to them about what I will describe below.

The Anker wireless magnetic charger is not that expensive.

Thanks Kelly,
I can understand your reservations. I thought about what you said but found the
alternative very expensive. Buying MagSafe wireless power banks are very
expensive. That is the only choice that does not tie you to a wall outlet as
you charge your device.
Cheers,

RE: Any recommendations?

2022-10-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

2022-10-05 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
If I'm out and about, I'll take a portable power bank with me. I
usually have my power banks in a case, so I have either a short
lightning to USB cable, or short lightning to USBC cable to easily
connect to my iPhone and the charging begins. It works very well for
me. I do have a magsafe case, but I don't use it all that much
because magsafe charging is way to slow for me, although it does work.

I am pretty sure the price included the charger.
In any case, always ask before buying.
