Re: Mark and iPhone 14 Pro Max, Together at Last

2022-12-22 Thread Kelly Pierce
Sieghard,

For a cell phone carrier to have a relationship with Apple, such as
selling their phones and having their frequencies supported by
iPhones, the carrier is obligated to sell a certain amount of Apple
hardware devices. Apple does not want cash from these companies but
product sales so services can be sold to device owners. If cell phone
companies are not meeting their quota, then they deeply discount
phones to maintain their relationship with Apple. Remember, criminals
will kill a victim to have an iPhone to sell.

The iPhone 13 would be called a 12S in a previous era. Apple had
little ability to innovate with employees working from home and the
world shut down for Covid. This is why Apple increased the based
storage of the lineup so it would be more attractive to consumers. I
loved this change and bought a 512 GB iPhone 13 Mini. Many consumers
are realizing they can get the same performance on the 13 lineup as
they can with the regular 14. Apple wants to blow these phones out
their sales channel, leaving only 14’s. the big surprise this year
was the popularity of the 14 Pros. People were willing to pay a lot
more for the advanced features. The camera on the 14 Pro now blows
Samsung Galaxy out of the water for the first time in many years. I
believe interest in Pro models will accelerate next year when Apple
offers super-fast transfer speeds on the Pro while keeping the regular
phones at USB 2.0, which was the technology of a decade ago. further,
the four and three nanometer chips will enable advanced functionality
not yet revealed while these chips will take a year or two for the
regular models.

Half of the value of iPhones is iOS. Developers stop supporting iOS
versions about a year after Apple stops supporting them. Buying the
latest model means someone will have the longest number of iOS updates
possible, extending the useful like of the iPhone. In 2022, iOS
updates ended for the iPhone 6s and 7 series, released in 2015 and
2016 respectively. This meant that Apple supported these devices for
seven and six years from their release, the longest in the cell phone
industry. True though significant depreciation occurs the first year
after the initial release so last year’s models can be a good value
while offering many years of iOS updates. If people allow companies
to compete for their business and are willing to switch carriers, then
they can get good deals on a new phone. This is added savings that
lowers the price to make the latest model affordable. For some people,
only certain networks are optimally available in their area so they
can’t switch.

Another solution is to touch, then double tap the status bar. This puts the
page at the beginning and the bottom buttons are present. You also can use the
scroll bar to get to the beginning, but double tapping the status bar is
quicker.

Re: Text Message Failed To Send, Message

2022-12-22 Thread Mike B.
Hi Shai,

Thank you and all others that replied. Your input was greatly appreciated.
What happened, which I found out later was our router needed a firmware
update and until this update was installed our Wifi had been knocked out
but, only for our iPhones and computers, it didn't effect our Echo devices
at all, which I don't understand.

After Spectrum installed the firmware update and I rebooted / power cycled
the modem / router everything was back to normal, for now anyways.

I had been having this text failing to send message appearing for several
months and I can't tell which iOS version I started hearing this message
with but, someone pointed out that the message could be from texting someone
using an Android phone. Since I don't text much at all, now I know to make
note to whom I text to verify the texting iPhone vs Android suggestion.
Thanks again.

Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

Hello,
I have not had this issue. I would try the following and then contact
your carrier if the below steps do not work:
1. Reset network settings in settings/general/reset; note, you will
need to have all wifi passwords handy as all wifi connections will be
lost upon this reset.
2. Restart your phone and then try to send a message.
3. Check for carrier settings update in settings/general/about, when
on that screen wait a few moments and you may be prompted for a
carrier settings update. If not and texts are still failing to send
proceed to next step.
4. Call your carrier; it could be that they may be having issues with
compatibility of 16.2 or issues to send text messages.

Subject: Mark's First 24 Hours with iPhone 14 Pro Max

Hello Everyone,

I am going to reply to some post in my previous thread but wanted to post this
new thread before doing so.

1.
I have been up since 2:35AM with my new 14 so please forgive any typos, etc.
(smile). At about 2:30AM this morning I woke up and went to the kitchen to get
some water. While in the kitchen I thought I would take my new phone out of
the box and simply plug it in so that it would be fully charged when I set it
up and . one thing led to another and (big smile).

2.
I have been absolutely delighted with my 14 experience, so far.

3.
I don't know when it happened but at some point in the wee hours I decided to
set up the device. I did not have sighted assistance, as backup, but I just
decided to go for it. The device is somewhat larger than my beloved 8 Plus so
getting comfortable with it, physically, took a few minutes. Okay, I
transferred the data from my beloved 8 Plus to the 14 via the iOS transfer
routine. I think that took about 35 minutes or so.

4.
When prompted to setup eSIM, I declined. Then, I rebooted the phone and
immediately updated to the latest version of iOS 16 which I believe it 16.2.
It's all kind of a blur at this point (smile).

5.
After the update was installed, I continued to decline the eSIM update prompt.
I did this because I knew that once my cellular account was transferred to 14,
there would be no going back to a physical SIM without involving a new physical
SIM card or going to my local wireless provider store. I think I took about
1.5 hours or so exploring 16.2 along with the various new options of the 14. I
also wanted to insure that my core apps would continue to function as expected.
Surprisingly, they did, at least all of the apps I could think of at 6AM did,
anyway.

6.
Okay, one of the primary reasons why I wanted a physical SIM is because I have
experienced many instances in which switching my wireless account to a new
hardware SIM has caused many of my customized cellular settings to be reset.
When this has occurred, it was not a simple thing to have them re-customized by
the provider for several reasons not the least of which being that the new
representatives did not realize that such customization was even possible. I
think you get the idea. Be that as it may, at around 7AM or so, knowing that
if something went wrong with the eSIM transfer I could call customer service, I
decided to take the plunge and transfer my wireless account to the 14. The
process was completely painless and worked flawlessly. Oh, my primary wireless
provider is A T & T Wireless. From start to finish, the transfer process took
about 3 minutes. Mind you, they were the longest 3 minutes I've had in many,
many years (smile). When the process was complete, I rebooted the 14 and
everything, and I do mean everything was just as it should be. Not one single
cellular setting had been lost. Most impressive, to say the least.

7.
I realize that this post is turning into a novel so I will stop here but I do
want to mention that I encountered a low ringer volume incident that I could
not resolve, at first. The issue was that, regardless of the volume level,
either with or without VoiceOver being enabled,

Hi all,

I was doing some investigating yesterday, and I found out what the dynamic
Island does. This is only for iPhone 14 and 14 pro max though. Here is an
example or two:

1. Open Control Center
2. Start a screen recording
3. Exit out of control center with the screen recording still on.
4. Double tap on the dynamic Island which is right in the middle of the status
bar. If you have a screen protector on your phone, the Dynamic Island is right
in the middle of the top of it in between the pieces of glass or plastic that
covers your phone.
5. VoiceOver will say, “Screen recording.” You can double tap this and the stop
button will appear. It’s a handy way of stopping a screen recording.

Example number 2:

1. Start a song playing.
2. Exit out of the music app and go back to your Home Screen.
3. Touch the Dynamic island and it will tell you the name of the song playing.
You can double tap it to bring up the now playing screen.

I think this will be a great little tool. I think they will probably do some
more work on it though.

Hi,

I'm sorry from further reading you didn't get the resolution you
wanted.  I've found that sometimes if the app misbehaves it's best to
disable all notifications I've set within the app and then re-enabling
them being careful to be sure my designated place for them when required
is set. It wouldn't cost anything but a bit of time and effort to give
that a go if you haven't already.

3. Check for carrier settings update in settings/general/about, when

Hello Everyone,

As the subject line suggest, today, I purchased iPhone 14 Pro Max, 1 Terabyte.

My friend was unable to purchase the Pro Max in Japan, without declaring a
local wireless provider at the time of purchase. She actually went to three
different Apple stores in three different areas of the country but, given her
time constraints, it just didn't make sense to go forward with the purchase.

So, I finally decided to drink the proverbial Kool-Aid and purchase a model
from a local store. The challenge was finding a local Apple store that had my
preferred model in stock.

I also purchased Apple Care Plus with Theft Protection. I had never heard of
this theft protection ad-on until the sales person informed me of its existence.

The salesperson at Apple was more than eager to configure the phone for use
with my wireless provider but, believe it or not, I was not quite ready for
that, just yet. I expect to begin using the phone before Christmas.

So, there you have it; Mark and iPhone 14 Pro Max, together at last (smile).

Mark

upgraded to the SE 3rd gen. and it uses the same charging cable.

Hi list members. I have a friend who is using an iPhone SE, I believe the
original SE. Does anyone know what type charging cable is used with this
phone? I thought it was a USB to lighting, but apparently not. Also, Is
there a power bank available for this phone, Or perhaps an adapter? Thanks

RE: iPhone SE charging cable.

2022-12-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
As Ben pointed out, the SE and in fact all iPhones since the iPhone 5 in 2012
have a Lightning port.
As for a powerbank you can use any power bank you want, most have 1 or 2
regular USB-A ports like you find on a computer and your USB to Lightning Cable
plugs into that.
If your friend has a USB-C to Lightning cable then possibly he is trying to
plug the USB-C plug into the iPhone. It feels quite similar to a Lightning
port, but it definitely won't fit.
Both Lightning and USB-C can be plugged in either way, i.e. there is no right
and wrong way. A regular USB-A plug only goes in one way as does Micro USB.

2022-12-22 Thread Ben Mustill-Rose
All of the SE phones have Lightning ports, so you're correct in saying
that the cable required is USB to Lightning. What's on the non
Lightning end will depend on the charger they're plugging it into.

At present I do not have the time or energy to list the steps, today, as I am

Hopefully, no one else will run into the issue but if they do, we can

The issue was that, regardless of the volume level,
either with or without VoiceOver being enabled, the incoming ringer volume
would start out quiet and get even more quiet as the ringing progressed.

Thanks to YouTube, I discovered that the problem was the result of a Face ID
setting that needed to be disabled. So very strange.

Okay, that's all for now.

Your Exhausted Fellow Traveler,

Mark

If it is not too much trouble, could you resend your post regarding the Dynamic

If you do not have the time, I will search the archives.

Dennis, I like the dynamic island which I posted about back a while ago. I also
love the shutdown and startup sounds I get with it. The battery life is great.
I can make my phone last 2 days before I really have to charge it. And, my

I had never heard of
this theft protection ad-on until the sales person informed me of its
existence.

Subject: RE: Mark and iPhone 14 Pro Max, Together at Last

It seems Apple will be discontinuing the iPhone 13 family or at least the
iPhone 13 Pro/Pro Max. Telus, my provider here in Canada, recently had such a
good deal on the iPhone 13 Pro that I decided to upgrade from my iPhone 11 even
though I initially hadn't planned to get a new phone this year. Of course I
also wanted to get my wife an iPhone 13 Pro, she has an 11 Pro currently.
Anyways, when I did my order online with Telus only the iPhone 13 Pro 256 Gb in
Sierra blue was offered. Since that is plenty of storage for me (I currently
have 64 Gb on my 11 and use a bit more than half) I placed my order. Afterwards
and probably within 10 minutes I completed my wife's order and received a
screen with order confirmation. My phone then shipped the next day (I placed
the order on December 8) and I received it on Monday, December 12. Since I
wanted to give my wife the phone for Christmas I simply left my phone in the
box so she wouldn't notice I had a new phone and though er phone must come
soon. When I had received nothing a few days later I called Telus and the rep
told me the phone would ship any day now and I'd get it at the latest on Monday
the 19th. The 19th came and went with no phone nor a shipment confirmation
email so yesterday I called Telus again and then after quite a long wait when I
was put on hold again and again the rep said that phone had been cancelled. He
said I would have received an email, but when I told him I had not he checked
and realized they had a completely incorrect email on the order even though I
had entered it correctly and receive a confirmation email. I then started
complaining about the mess up, the fact the other agent a few day sbefore told
me the phone would ship soon and general lack of communication. He was very
understanding, put me on hold again to talk to his boss and then asked if I
would be interested in an iPhone 14. I told him if anything only in the Pro
model so he read me off their current offer which also sounded not too bad, but
I insisted that Telus should give me something for all that inconvenience and
the fact that most likely I would now not have a phone to give to my wife for
Christmas. I suggested he should tell his supervisor that I would be happy with
a one-time credit of maybe $250 which would have offset the additional monthly
cost and higher buy-out price. All of these offers are based on a 2-year
contract with no upfront payment, a certain monthly payment and then I can
either give the device back to Telus and get something new or pay the buy-out
price and keep it. Anyways, he said he would have to work all this out and he
would call me back the next day (Tuesday) to confirm. I heard nothing on
Tuesday so this morning I called again and this time had a much better agent on
the line. He then told me that what the other agent had quoted me was in fact
for an iPhone 14 not a 14 Pro and in the end he put me through to a different
agent in the loyalty and retention department. She then asked me if I would
possibly be interested in a 13 Pro Max, but I said that would really be my last
choice, she then said they also still had some regular iPhone 13 Pro models
with 512 Gb so basically the same as I ordered, but instead of 256 Gb it has
512 Gb of storage. I asked her if she couldn't just call it even because of all
the hassle so now I am again waiting because she has to clear it with her
supervisor. At least this lady sent me an email and when I didn't get a call
around 6 PM Pacific time I emailed her assuming she was done for the day, but
she replied within a couple of minutes that she couldn't get everything cleared
up and she would call me tomorrow morning around 8:30 or 9.
I guess I will see how this ends, I told her that unless they figure out a
solution which does not cost me an arm and a leg I would want to send my iPhone
13 Pro back as well, I would expect them to reinstate my previous plan which
was not a 5G plan and was $10 cheaper and that I would simply continue for
another year with my iPhone 11.
Of course I also used a Best Buy gift card I bought with points from my credit
card to order two Belkin 3-in-1 MagSafe charging docks and they of course won't
do me much good without a phone which supports MagSafe.
But it definitely looks like the iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max and maybe the
regular iPhone 13 are being discontinued and once the remaining stock from
carriers, at Apple Stores and other retailers is gone that will be it. I don't
know if Apple is doing this to boost the lackluster sales performance of the
iPhone 14 and

The issue was that, regardless of the volume level,
either with or without VoiceOver being enabled, the incoming ringer volume
would start out quiet and get even more quiet as the ringing progressed.

Thanks to YouTube, I discovered that the problem was the result of a Face ID
setting that needed to be disabled. So very strange.

Okay, that's all for now.

Mark

Mark's First 24 Hours with iPhone 14 Pro Max

2022-12-22 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

I am going to reply to some post in my previous thread but wanted to post
this new thread before doing so.

1.
I have been up since 2:35AM with my new 14 so please forgive any typos, etc.
(smile). At about 2:30AM this morning I woke up and went to the kitchen to
get some water. While in the kitchen I thought I would take my new phone
out of the box and simply plug it in so that it would be fully charged when
I set it up and . one thing led to another and (big smile).

2.
I have been absolutely delighted with my 14 experience, so far.

3.
I don't know when it happened but at some point in the wee hours I decided
to set up the device. I did not have sighted assistance, as backup, but I
just decided to go for it. The device is somewhat larger than my beloved 8
Plus so getting comfortable with it, physically, took a few minutes. Okay,
I transferred the data from my beloved 8 Plus to the 14 via the iOS transfer
routine. I think that took about 35 minutes or so.

4.
When prompted to setup eSIM, I declined. Then, I rebooted the phone and
immediately updated to the latest version of iOS 16 which I believe it 16.2.
It's all kind of a blur at this point (smile).

5.

I had never heard of
this theft protection ad-on until the sales person informed me of its
existence.

No you need to reconfigure your notifications within the app and reset up the
ones you want.

Subject: RE: I no longer receive notifications from Weather Gods app

I uninstalled, rebooted the phone, and re-installed Weather Gods twice. I
checked settings within the app; it said notifications needed to be enabled in
the Settings app. When I opened Settings, Notifications and looked for Weather
Gods on the list, it didn't show up. It should have appeared right after the
native weather app. When I tried using Search at the top of the settings
screen, several things like looked like filenames containing Weather Gods,
Acknowledgements, and other verbiage appeared.
For now, I have removed the app from my phone and canceled my subscription.
Notifications still come in from my news and delivery apps. I suggest all of us
who have had this problem write to the developer, as I have done. I further
suggest we allow this topic to die unless a Weather Gods update comes out.
Respectfully,

Sometimes the address bar gets collapsed. Double tap on it and it should bring
back the tabs button.

trouble accessing share and tab buttons, along with all other buttons at the bottom of safari screens since installing iOS 16.2

2022-12-22 Thread Keith Kramlinger
hi,
Since installing iOS 16.2 on my iPhone 13 promax, I have had difficulty
accessing the share buttons and tab buttons along with the other buttons
usually located at the bottom of safari screens.
Does anyone have similar experience? Is there a way to reliably access these
buttons? A four finger single tap at the bottom of the screen does not bring
these buttons for me.
Thanks in advance. Keith

RE: Mark and iPhone 14 Pro Max, Together at Last

2022-12-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The 15? Except for the fact that it is highly likely it will have a USB-C port
all we know are a few still very much unsubstantiated rumours.
You can always wait and wait because the next year something else will come
out. For quite some time now I am not buying the newest any more because you
pay a big premium and usually can get a great deal on last year's phones which
are still fantastic. Now you can look forward to using your iPhone 13 Pro Max
for another 2 years and then when the iPhone 16 comes out you can get a good
deal on an iPhone 15.

A friend of mine gave me the money to get my one TB iPhone 13 pro max.
I wish I had held on to my 8 just a bit longer. I really like my iPhone 13 pro

The two or three times my texts have failed to send have always been because
somehow airplane mode has switched itself on. Once I return it to off, then the
texts go without a problem.

it fell from iPhone to iPhone. And most of the time, it does not fail when I

Hi All,

Running iOS16.2 on an SE2020 iPhone. Every time I send a text message, and it
doesn't matter whether I send by typing it out or dictating and using Siri, I
get a message in the Notification Center stating the message failed to send
when the message did indeed send. Is this happening to anyone else? Any input
is appreciated. Thanks much.
Take care. Mike. Sent from my iBarstool.

RE: I no longer receive notifications from Weather Gods app

2022-12-22 Thread Kathy Blackburn

Kathy Blackburn

Re: Mark and iPhone 14 Pro Max, Together at Last

2022-12-22 Thread Jennie Facer
I love my 14 pro max. I only have 128. GB but I also have iCloud Drive up to 2
TB so I feel comfortable with it.

Dennis, I like the dynamic island which I posted about back a while ago. I also
love the shutdown and startup sounds I get with it. The battery life is great.
I can make my phone last 2 days before I really have to charge it. And, my
Hable works well with it as well.

Re: I no longer receive notifications from Weather Gods app

2022-12-22 Thread Diane Giannetti
Regarding Weather Gods notifications, I was not receiving them either. All I
did was open the Weather Gods app and let it just kind of stay on for a couple
of minutes and then before I knew it I was getting notifications so it all
seems to work good for me now.

Did you pay for an in app purchase for Weather Gods? Don't recall
whether there was a charge for the app back in 2019 when my husband
 installed this app.

He does not have anything about restore purchases. The only thing
that there seems to do is to purchase an upgrade for certain
 features for $1.49 per month.

Under his notifications for the app, it says that the notifications
have been paused and that you can turn them back on in the device
settings but there is nothing regarding this under notifications
 and settings other than acknowledgments.

I’m guessing you’ve also gone into settings, my account, restore
 purchases?
I lost my notifications as well, and I am thinking the restore
purchases is what did it for me to bring them back.

Re: Mark and iPhone 14 Pro Max, Together at Last

2022-12-22 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
A friend of mine gave me the money to get my one TB iPhone 13 pro max.
I wish I had held on to my 8 just a bit longer. I really like my
iPhone 13 pro max, its just that the 15 sounds really cool.
