Re: good replacement for soundscape?

2023-01-15 Thread Kellie
Thank you for these apps, as I was wanting to find a replacement for alerting
me of intersections. Removed recently and I’ve been using that to help me
orient as well. I’ve used it when I’ve gone into unfamiliar areas to take my
son trick-or-treating in an area that I wasn’t familiar with, but knew That
certain streets were blocking it off. Soundscape was immensely helpful in that
regard. I’m still very disappointed that it’s going away, but hope I can use
these other apps in that place.

Hi Sieghard,

Yes, it was some kind of micro-fiber but it had almost no give / stretch at
all.It felt more like a tourniquet than a headband, (smile).

I just looked it up and the brand was CenGoes. As I said, the cost was $12 USD.

Hello Sieghard and Everyone,

Sieghard, I ordered the Bluetooth set of the wireless sleep headband you
mentioned and for which you provided a link.

I could not use the link you provided to order the set but copied the brand
name and found what I believe to be a similar set from a company. The pair I
purchased costs $16, American, $12 after a $4 discount. The pair I ordered had
about 300 Amazon reviews. One of the features that people like is the fact
that they fit snuggly around the head.

While I liked the sound of the earphones, the band was just too tight for
comfort. (I guess I have a big head, eh?) (smile).

So, I returned them and ordered a mainstream brand, one that is marked as
Amazon Choice with over 44000 reviews at 4.3 out of 5 stars. They should be
here on Tuesday. The design is a little bit different but the concept is the
same.

Once I find a pair that I like, I will post a link to the group, in this thread.

Sounds like you might be pulling contacts from multiple sources, such as iCloud

iCloud instead of All contacts. Note I was just using iCloud as an example.

FaceTime audio sharing VoiceOver

2023-01-15 Thread Shai
Hello,
I suspect that the answer to this question will be that this is not
possible at this time; however, I am thinking that this feature should
be possible especially because of something like shareplay on FaceTime
calls.
I am working with a student remotely via FaceTime audio and beginning
to teach them how to use VoiceOver.
Other than them having another iOS device for which to have VoiceOver
audio transmitted so that one can hear what they are doing, is there a
means of outputting this audio to a FaceTime audio call?
Thank you in advance for any responses.

RE: Have you Gone Wireless, Yet?

2023-01-15 Thread M. Taylor

Mark

Anyways, I tried to look up the Bose Sleep Pods you mentioned and all I could
find was references and reviews for a product called Bose Sleepbuds which is
some sort of noise cancelling, white noise-making gadget which most reviews say
is way overpriced.

Here is a link on Amazon Canada for a set of the wireless sleep headband I

Hi mark,

Um, don't go choaking yourself with the headphone cable,

But hey, why do you wear headphones when in bed?

Wouldn't it be simpler to just have the phone playing audio beside you!?

But the airpods are great, I don’t' like wearing them at night because I can
roll on to my side and they then dig in to my ears.

But if you are looking for a good quality Bluetooth headphoens / ear pods to

are meant for use in situations like you are speaking of here, and I can say
from years of constant usage, Bose make great audio headphones etc.

Hello All,

I have long been a fan of Apple wired Ear Pods.

I had to have my original beloved 8 Plus replaced, about a month prior to its

For the last 6-months or so, perhaps longer, while the Lightening port on my

In case you didn't see my other message, I'd try to reset network settings; you
even might want to turn off your phone, open the SIM tray a bit and push it
backin (no need to take it out completely).
Actually I'd try the SIM tray thing first, my Mom once took her cellular data
capable iPad to Germany when she was visiting family. She bought a local SIM
there with a bunch of data so she could use the iPad to send emails, use
Facetime and such and at one point nothing which required an online connection
worked. I told her to take the SIM out and put it back in and bingo, all was
back to normal.
As I said, it's something to try, it won't hurt and especially if you only pull
it out half way it's quickly and easily done. If it doesn't help I'd still try
to reset network settings.

Hi, Sieghard, she understands me just fine, even reads back the message

Subject: SIRI Failing to Send anything but iMessages

Hi, all.

Using an iPhone 12 Pro with iOS 16.2 over here.

I cannot use SIRI to dictate and send a mesage to someone unless they have an
iPhone and are using iMessage. Obviously, this doesn't work for Android
phones. I cannot even use SIRI to reply to a text sent from someone not using
iMessage. The only way to text is to open the messages app and dictate a
message from within an existing conversation or compose from scratch.

I've turned SIRI off than on again, I've restarted my phone, and I've
double-checked that send SMS messages is on. Is there anything else I can try?

This is really annoying, to say the least.

Has anyone else had this issue and is there a fix for it or is it just another
dumbing down of SIRI issue we have to wait to get corrected?

Actually, anything other than surgical steel can cause infections or
discoloring. Most other metals are plated over nickel, which is the problem.

Twitter's access via Twitterrific is broken at my end too. It doesn't ask for
Log-in, rather it says that for now, the access is broken, hoping that it's
temporary.

Re: SIRI Failing to Send anything but iMessages

2023-01-15 Thread Lisa Belville
Hi, Sieghard, she understands me just fine, even reads back the message
correctly in its entirety and says she sends it.  Then I get a message
failure alert immediately after she says the message has been sent.
Dictation within the messages app works fine, so I guess I'll have to
put up with unlocking my phone and keeping the messages app open to text
until it's fixed.

I thought I saw this before IOS 16, but note that when you merge the cards the
duplicate cards are linked. You still have multiple cards but IOS knows that
they're linked, so you'll only see one copy in the All Contacts list.

If you’re using iOS 16, there’s a new Contacts feature. Open the Contacts app,
you can view duplicate contacts and you can merge them indivi selectively or

Hello Bill,

Interesting that you should post about this, today.

Earlier today, a friend called me with the same question.

Until earlier today, I had not heard of this occurring.

She is using an 8 Plus with iOS 14.x.

Again, an interesting coincidence, to be sure.

2023-01-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Janet, maybe your volume for that tone somehow is turned down way low. I
understand how people with hearing loss may have problems hearing it since it
is a relatively low frequency tone, but if somebody has normal or as you say
excellent hearing then I don't understand how you can miss it unless somehow
the tone is not working or the volume is extremely low.

Hi Mark,
Well, I have been trying to do that, wait and wait some more and then make my
request. Sometimes it seems to help. Other times it’s crazy. Siri is just not
very reliable. In terms of launching apps. It will tell me that I don’t have a

RE: Siri command to reboot or shut down iPhone

2023-01-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It's a bit hard to figure out what you were trying to say because of the
terrible spelling, but I believe you implied I am breaking some sort of
non-disclosure agreement by saying that I am running iOS 16.3 public beta.
If there is in fact a non-disclosure agreement for public betas then Apple can
go right ahead and bring on the lawyers, but I doubt the fact that I mentioned
I am using the public beta would violate their NDA and if furthermore asking
people to verify whether the Siri commands for restarting and shuttitng off the
phone still work does violate it then I guess I'll have to pay the price or go
to jail or whatever it is Apple will do to me.
Of course thousands of people and dozens of reputable tech bloggers and
websites regularly disclose a lot more information about iOS beta versions than
this especially since in fact it turned out to be a temporary glitch. Since it
is working again and in fact had nothing to do with iOS 16.3 I doubt I'll get
into trouble. If you were using dictation for yoru message I would however
write to Apple providing the example of your text and complain about how bad
Siri is at dictation.

Hi,

Could people who have iOS 16.2 or earlier check if they can still successfully
ask Siri to restart or shut down their device?
I am on iOS 16.3 public beta and this seems to have stopped working which is
too bad because it was a handy command.

RE: SIRI Failing to Send anything but iMessages

2023-01-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Probably a temporary glitch, for me all is working as expected but once again
it is really important to wait for a heartbeat or two before you ask Siri
whatever it is you want after the tone. I still forget sometimes and yesterday
said "Siri call 250-847-1234" which of course is just a sample number, Siri
came back and said "I can't call 08471234 so it clearly shows that the first
part of what I said was not understood because I spoke to quickly.

I thought I saw this before IOS 16, but note that when you merge the cards the

you can view duplicate contacts and you can merge them indivi selectively or

Just as a sidenote. You can replace the bee with an A and it will be able to be
played with more media players. You may lose some functionality, such as
bookmarks and things like that, but that’s an option.

RE: M4B-format audiobooks

2023-01-15 Thread Alan Lemly
Hi Steve,

I know your question has already been answered but I wanted to provide some
additional comments about the m4b audio format in general. I highly recommend
the website https://fileinfo.com/ forgetting information about various file
formats. It seems that Apple developed the m4b format for use in Apple Books
and iTunes so many audiobooks using that format might contain DRM protection
which will render them unavailable in Voice Dream Reader. This is not always
the case so books in that format can be played with various players.

Following my signature, I’m including the article from the FileInfo.com
website on m4b files which can be accessed at
https://fileinfo.com/extension/m4b. This article contains headings so you
should be able to easily jump among them using quick keys provided your email
client retains the html format.

What is an M4B file?

An M4B file is an audiobook most often used by Apple iTunes and Apple Books. It
contains audio that is stored in the MPEG-4 format and compressed using AAC
encoding. M4B files are nearly identical to .M4A
  files except that they support
book-related features, such as chapter breaks and bookmarking.

More Information

M4B file open in Apple Books

Apple copy-protects the M4B files they provide using FairPlay DRM
. This means M4B files you download via
iTunes or Apple Books can be played only on authorized computers and Apple
devices, using iTunes or Apple Books. Therefore, if you are having trouble
playing an M4B file, it might be because you are not playing it in iTunes or
Apple Books, or because your device is not authorized to play it.

How to open an M4B file

On Windows, you can open an M4B file with Apple iTunes
. On Macs and other Apple devices,
you can open an M4B file with Apple Books
 .

Some free audiobook libraries, such as LibriVox, also provide audiobooks in the
M4B format. These files are not copy-protected, so you can play them using
third-party media players such as VideoLAN VLC media player
 .

How to convert an M4B file

You can use VideoLAN VLC media player
  (multiplatform) to
convert non-copy-protected M4B files to the following audio formats:

*   .MP3   - MP3 Audio
* .OGG - Ogg Vorbis Audio
* .FLAC - Free Lossless Audio Codec

TuneFab iTunes Audio Converter (Windows, Mac) and Viwizard Audio Converter
(Windows, Mac) can remove copy-protection from protected M4B files and convert
them to MP3 and other audio formats. Keep in mind that removing copy-protection
for your own use is legal, but sharing previously copy-protected files is
illegal.

Problem deleting messages in messenger

2023-01-15 Thread Jen .
Hi I sent a couple of messages to a page I subscribed to on messenger yesterday
and the messages did not go through. Problem is now. There is no way to delete
these messages. I have tried double tap and hold on the chat and the only
thing that comes up is block or cancel, as well as I have tried flicking up and
down on the messages themselves and the only option I have is copy or cancel.
All I want to do is delete the chat not block the page, but not sure what else
to do. I've also been through all the messenger settings and have come up with
nothing. Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you might be pulling contacts from multiple sources, such as iCloud
and locally on your phone. Try going into your contacts app and double tapping
on Lists at the top of the page. Now see what happens if you double tap on
iCloud instead of All contacts. Note I was just using iCloud as an example.

What's the best player to use? Most of the reasoning behind the M4B

SIRI Failing to Send anything but iMessages

2023-01-15 Thread Lisa Belville

Hi, all.

Using an iPhone 12 Pro with iOS 16.2 over here.

I cannot use SIRI to dictate and send a mesage to someone unless they
have an iPhone and are using iMessage.  Obviously, this doesn't work for
Android phones.  I cannot even use SIRI to reply to a text sent from
someone not using iMessage.  The only way to text is to open the
messages app and dictate a message from within an existing conversation
or compose from scratch.

I've turned SIRI off than on again, I've restarted my phone, and I've
double-checked that send SMS messages is on.  Is there anything else I
can try?

This is really annoying, to say the least.

Has anyone else had this issue and is there a fix for it or is it just
another dumbing down of SIRI issue we have to wait to get corrected?

The reason I am asking this, is because when we transfered our apps from our
old phone to our new phone in the past, all our books are not saved, so we
have to redownload them.
Thanks for any help,
Chris

airdrop and bard mobile question

2023-01-15 Thread Chris Judd
My girlfriend is getting a new phone soon, and she  was wondering, can
she air drop her bard mobile app to her new phone?
The reason I am asking this, is because when we  transfered our apps
from our old phone to our  new phone in the past, all our books are not
saved, so we have to redownload them.

Thanks for any help,
Chris
