My question is, and I guess it is two questions, What is the cost of
the non-light version and how does one find that version?

I found nothing about in-app purchases in the app store or in the app.

Limitations of LITE version

LITE version of Seeing Assistant Home has several limitations, such as:

  * Lack of Dropbox support,
  * Only 5 codes can be created,
  * Only 10 characters can be embedded in QR code,
  * Lack of voice commands,
  * Magnifying glass and Light Detector can be used only 1 minute
every day.

connected to WiFi network or do not have internet plan data transfer
might result in additional costs. Transition Technologies is not
responsible for any loss or additional costs resulting when using
Seeing Assistant Home.

Just checked the App Store. It appears to be available, but you have to hunt

was at the top of the page. You should hear “Light Dectector, Utilities, 4

I buy my own router but use the modem provided by my cable company. I know
others who also get their router through the cable company. I'm sure it's a
money maker for the cable companies, otherwise why would they do it, but I
don't think I'd consider it a rip off. If someone is willing to spend that
money to get more piece of mind, especially for something that's become as
critical as access to the internet, I'm not the one to tell them it's a rip off.

I didn’t realize until today that Seeing AI has a Light Dectector. That’s good
to know. However I have the app called Light Detector, which I think may be
the same one Regina mentioned. I really like that app, and use it often. It’s
so easy! You just tap the app, and it starts working right away when it opens.
 No menus to deal with.

it starts the highest loudest sound is that the light is on and then when you

Hi Gradimir,

It looks like Seeing Assistant Home has had quite a bit of good development
since I first tried it several years ago.

I do have a question. It took a lot of digging through the tutorial to find
the below section concerning the limitations of the light version which I
copied from the tutorial.
My question is, and I guess it is two questions, What is the cost of the
non-light version and how does one find that version?
I found nothing about in-app purchases in the app store or in the app.

Limitations of LITE version

LITE version of Seeing Assistant Home has several limitations, such as:

  *   Lack of Dropbox support,
  * Only 5 codes can be created,
  * Only 10 characters can be embedded in QR code,
  *   Lack of voice commands,
  * Magnifying glass and Light Detector can be used only 1 minute every day.

Seeing Assistant Home uses internet connection to work. If you are not

result in additional costs. Transition Technologies is not responsible for any

Double tap on Menu, then settings, then Reorder channels.
Make sure Light says selected, if it doesn't, double tap it so it is selected

Hi Mark. I'm a big fan of the Apple TV plus series. They all seem to have AD
and they are very well done. I've watched a ton of them so let me know if you
want any suggestions on some really good series to start watching. Glad you
are doing well.

Subject: A Big Hello and General Personal Apple-Related Updates from Mark

Hello Everyone,

First, I am posting this to both lists because I know that a couple of
questions I have can be answered by experts on either list.

Second, Happy Independence Day for those of us in the US.

1.
So I finally decided to give Apple One a try. I have been resistant to it
because I do not need all of the features included in the plan but, quite
frankly, the billing is better when bundled. I have to admit that being able
to read the lyrics of songs that are playing, in Apple Music, is very, very
nice. Here is a question: Is it possible to place VoiceOver focus such that
as the lyric being sung is automatically read out by VO?

2.
With regard to Apple Fitness Plus: Any suggestions as to how best to get
started using the features in conjunction with my Apple Watch?

3.
Today, for the first time, I finally added a second card to Apple Pay. I must
say that I am extremely relieved that selecting the non-default card, at time
of purchase, is so easy. I had been reluctant to add a second card, for just
that reason.

4.
Since I now have access to TV Plus, I guess I will give some of these,
apparently, excellent new series a try. I am looking forward to watching
Highjacked and Silo.

5.
I was just thinking that all of my interaction with the world, in terms of
technology, is done via Apple products; accept for my two remaining hardworking
and beloved PCs; one that is still running Windows 7 The Windows 7 PC is not
connected to the internet.

6.
Now don't get me wrong, I love my Android devices but I cannot imagine using
them as a primary means of navigating my life.

7.
Although a day late and a dollar short, with regard to the thread that asked
about good WIFI routers, I prefer Linksys routers and range extenders. In
fact, I purchased 2 new range extenders for my home, just last week. I was
delighted to discover that when you connect to these devices, for the first
time, on an iOS device, the device's built-in web interface automatically
launches, prompting you for the required info. Very, very, impressive. In
fact, now that I think about it, these new devices can tell you when they are
in the best location, relative to other Linksys devices, on the same network.
How wonderful technology can be; and the best part? We have only scratched the
surface on all that is to come.

Finally, I hope you are all doing well and I do hope you will reply to this
thread reporting your own personal Apple-related updates, also.

Mark

I didn’t realize until today that Seeing AI has a Light Dectector. That’s good
to know. However I have the app called Light Detector, which I think may be
the same one Regina mentioned. I really like that app, and use it often. It’s
so easy! You just tap the app, and it starts working right away when it opens.
 No menus to deal with.

Hi, I really think it’s sad that seeing AI ditched the Light Detector. However,
I found an app called Light Detector. It works very well. You just open it and
it starts the highest loudest sound is that the light is on and then when you
turn it off, it goes down to a low level of sound. That’s all that the app
does. It’s called light detector. Hope that helps. On

Limitations of LITE version

LITE version of Seeing Assistant Home has several limitations, such as:

*   Lack of Dropbox support,
* Only 5 codes can be created,
* Only 10 characters can be embedded in QR code,
*   Lack of voice commands,
* Magnifying glass and Light Detector can be used only 1 minute every day.

I've never not had it there.
So my guess is that either someone unselected it, or the app got corrupted

There is probably no way of knowing, but I'm glad you found it again.

Seeing AI on my iPhone still has light detecter.

As I mentioned to Robert, check the Menu, settings, Rearrange channels and make
sure it is saying selected on the light channel.

As far as I know, I am up to date with the app.

Hi Gradimir,

It looks like Seeing Assistant Home has had quite a bit of good development

I do have a question. It took a lot of digging through the tutorial to find
the below section concerning the limitations of the light version which I
copied from the tutorial.

My question is, and I guess it is two questions, What is the cost of the
non-light version and how does one find that version?

I found nothing about in-app purchases in the app store or in the app.

Limitations of LITE version

LITE version of Seeing Assistant Home has several limitations, such as:

1. Lack of Dropbox support,
2. Only 5 codes can be created,
3. Only 10 characters can be embedded in QR code,
4. Lack of voice commands,
5. Magnifying glass and Light Detector can be used only 1 minute every day.

Warnings and disclaimer

Seeing Assistant Home uses internet connection to work. If you are not

that it can get an accurate picture. It is wonderful, very easy to use, no errors where you get the left or right corners cut off or anything like that. The money reader is excellent. There are some experimental things, and I love the way they venture out
to find new products. This is well worth the lifetime price that I paid. I am very happy with this product, and know that it will only get better as time passes."
We're very happy to see that Supersense enables many more creative solutions to our everyday lives with its constantly improving technology.
We’re looking forward to sharing more thoughts in the coming months!

Hmm, I know here in Canada we pay some of the highest prices for cell plans and
also internet, but I certainly was never charged for a modem. I am currently
with a relatively small regional provider as they have been installing fiber
cables throughout our small community for years whereas Telus, the big player,
can't be bothered to do so. When I first signed up for my business as well as
my home to get a fiber connection the company sent out an installer who brought
the fiber cable to my house/store from the street and then hooked up their
modem and none of that cost me anything. Their modem does have Wi-Fi
capabilities, but only has 2 ports if you want to hook up anything by cable so
I prefer to have my Netgear Orbi router which at least gives me 4 ports and
more control over the Wi-Fi.

Hi Sieghard,
My provider charges 15 dollars a month for their modem. That adds up to 180 US
dollars a year. I bought my NetGear Modem/router in 2015 for 140 dollars, but
saved myself at least 1200 dollars in the last eight years. I will look into
buying a modem and a router, but will not let my provider steal my money. I am
already paying.close to 100 dollars for the service each month.

time to share what they say. In our ongoing efforts to incorporate the latest
AI enhancements into our document scanner, we are delighted to highlight a
positive review posted on the App Store which specifically acknowledges its
accuracy and ease of use.
"This app includes the best scanner I have come across so far. It is very
accurate, I would guess 99%. It is very easy to read mail very quickly if you
put the scanner in document mode. The program will tell you how to move the
phone so that it can get an accurate picture. It is wonderful, very easy to
use, no errors where you get the left or right corners cut off or anything like
that. The money reader is excellent. There are some experimental things, and I
love the way they venture out to find new products. This is well worth the
lifetime price that I paid. I am very happy with this product, and know that it
will only get better as time passes."
We're very happy to see that Supersense enables many more creative solutions to
our everyday lives with its constantly improving technology.
We’re looking forward to sharing more thoughts in the coming months!

RE: light detector

2023-07-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The Light Detector channel of the Seeing AI app does the same thing and since
it does so much more including currency recognition, instant on the fly OCR via
video when you point your phone to any text as well as normal OCR where it
takes a picture of a printed page + handwriting recognition, barcode
recognition, people recognition and so on, the Seeing AI app is really one any
blind person should have on their phone. Of course it is also nice that it is a
free app developed by Microsoft which means there is small chance it will go
away or become a paid app. You can also set up Siri commands to directly
access the various channels, e.g. you can set it up so that when you say "Tell
me if the light is on" or "Open Light Detector" that it will open the app and
switch to that channel. You can also configure it to display the channels you
use the most if you do a double tap and hold on the app on the home screen,
e.g. you can set it up to show let's say "Light, Currency, Short Text and
Product" and you can determine which order you want them to be in.

Changes with Voice Dream apps
Have you heard the news? Learn about the changes and new names for our beloved
Voice Dream apps!
Voice Dream Reader logo
img class="resource-featured-image-hero"
src="https://www.perkins.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/06/voice_dream_icon.jpeg;
alt="Voice Dream Reader logo"
Have you heard the news? The beloved Voice Dream apps are changing! The
original developer, Winston Chen has turned Voice Dream Reader over to the
Applause Group, a company able to sustain Voice Dream Reader. The name has been
changed to Text to Speech TTS Voice Dream. TTS Voice Dream enables you to
listen to PDFs, Web pages, and books using text-to-speech.
Note: On April 25, 2023, Voice Dream Reader became a subscription-based app for
$59.99 per year. A free trial was available.
Voice Dream Scanner and Voice Dream Writer remain with Winston; although, he
has formed a new company, Opus Noma and the app names have been changed to
VDScan and VDWrite. VDScan is an OCR app used to scan inaccessible PDF or text
image and converts the text to an accessible document that can be read by a
screen reader. VDWrite is a text-to-speech writing app that reduces mistakes,
helps you use the right words, and helps organize and improve the structure of
your writing.
Winston’s press release
Dear Customers, Partners, and Friends,
I am delighted to announce that Voice Dream Reader has joined Applause Group as
a leading product in their portfolio of apps.
Voice Dream Reader started 12 years ago as a side project during my sabbatical
in Arctic Norway. Since then, it has evolved into the best text-to-speech
reader, helping hundreds of thousands of people worldwide read for learning and
fun. Winning Apple Design Award in 2021 was the crowning achievement of my
professional life.
But I could not have done it without the users. You constantly provided me with
ideas for improvements and inspired me with your personal stories of how Reader
changed your lives. And I could not have done it without my partners and
friends who supported me at every step. For that, I will be forever grateful.
While I look at the past with nostalgia, I also look to the future with
excitement. Applause Group is committed to investing in Reader and turning it
into a household name. It will be stewarded by a sustainable company instead of
being completely dependent on me. And that is good news for everyone who relies
on Reader every day.
With Reader going to a new home, Voice Dream Scanner and Writer will remain
with me under a different company, Opus Noma. (Noma stands for my children Nora
and Marcus.) And they will be renamed to VDScan and VDWrite. My new email
address is winston.c...@opusnoma.com.
Happy reading, as we all look forward to a bright future.
Winston

RE: Adding Contacts

2023-07-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you mean can you dial a number and then get it to dial another number
automatically after a pause then yes, just create a contact and after you enter
the main phone number insert a comma and the other number. For example, if I
call our local drug mart I have to press 4 and then 1 to be connected to
customer service. Their number is 250-847-2288 so I create a contact and put +1
(250) 847-2288,4,1 and this will dial the main number, there will be a 2 second
delay which is enough time fo rtheir automatic attendant to start reading the
options, then the 4 is dialed and the second menu comes up and 2 seconds later
1 is pressed. If you find a 2 second delay is not long enough you can insert 2
commas for a 4 second delay, at least I think each comma does 2 seconds.

RE: Accessible meat thermometer

2023-07-08 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Thanks, I saw the phone number but since it was evening I couldn't call and I
think I saw that they are not open on weekends, either. I took a look at the
talking model they have and it's just too bad they didn't add a talking
function to their Thermapen line of thermometers. The speaking model says it
reads in 5 to 6 seconds which is really rather a long time when you want to
take a few readings in a turkey or larger roast or if you want to check oil
temperature on a stove top where the temperature changes quickly. The classic
Thermapen reads in 2-3 seconds whereas the new Thermapen One reads in 1 second.
I may just order one of those and see if an app like Seeing Ai can read the
display and realistically in many situations where I want oil temperature I
might be cooking with my sighted wife who could use it. My Louisiana Grill
pellet barbecue as well as my GE oven has the ability to hook up temperature
probes and I can see the temperature in the app.

Adding Contacts

2023-07-08 Thread Noe Villeda
Hi there,
Is there a way to add a contact to a number?
Board for Apple, I am trying to add an automated number.

Is there a way to add the number, and then the option for the number two for
transportation reservations, as an example?

Re: Using Voicevista for turn by turn directions

2023-07-08 Thread 'Mervin Keck III' via VIPhone
That is exactly what I was hoping for. I like the easy way of recording and
setting markers. However I would also like to be able to have the change of
direction automatically voiced without having to press a button.
I have a paid app and have never been able to figure out how to accomplish
these two tasks with blind square or I would have been using that because I
like the way it uses my watch.

Using VoiceVista, is their way you can set the app to announce what is ahead of
you by moving the phone instead of tapping the button? With Sound Scape we were
able to do this.

Exactly, so my question is whether you can use VoiceVista for turn by turn

I don't think it does that. It looks to me like you have to have dropped a
bunch of waypoints along a route and then you can create a route out of those
waypoints. It says on the route screen:

Create a route for yourself or for someone else by organizing a set of markers

informed on arrival to each waypoint, and the Audio Beacon will automatically

Re: light detector

2023-07-08 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Gradimir,

It looks like Seeing Assistant Home has had quite a bit of good development
since I first tried it several years ago.

I do have a question. It took a lot of digging through the tutorial to find
the below section concerning the limitations of the light version which I
copied from the tutorial.

My question is, and I guess it is two questions, What is the cost of the
non-light version and how does one find that version?

I found nothing about in-app purchases in the app store or in the app.

Limitations of LITE version

LITE version of Seeing Assistant Home has several limitations, such as:

*   Lack of Dropbox support,
* Only 5 codes can be created,
* Only 10 characters can be embedded in QR code,
*   Lack of voice commands,
* Magnifying glass and Light Detector can be used only 1 minute every day.

Warnings and disclaimer

Seeing Assistant Home uses internet connection to work. If you are not
connected to WiFi network or do not have internet plan data transfer might
result in additional costs. Transition Technologies is not responsible for any
loss or additional costs resulting when using Seeing Assistant Home.

Yeah, I did mean Good Maps Outdoors. Sometimes my typing just goes into
autopilot mode. Thanks for the correction and clarification.

Not to be overly picky, Goodmaps explore is primarily for indoor travel where
their beacons have been set up, while it can do some outdoor. GoodMaps Outdoors
is the one for outdoor travel.
I knowledge you know that, but wanted to be sure.

At this stage, I think VoiceVista is not useful for turn by turn directions at
all. Stick with Apple Maps, Google Maps, GoodMaps Outdoors if you want turn by
turn directions to some place you have not been before. I think VoiceVista
could be used to say drop a bunch of way points while out for a walk and then
string a route together to retrace your steps or something like that.
But, that is just a guess.

I don't think it does that. It looks to me like you have to have dropped a
bunch of waypoints along a route and then you can create a route out of those
waypoints. It says on the route screen:

Create a route for yourself or for someone else by organizing a set of markers
as waypoints on a route. While out on your route with VoiceVista, you will be
informed on arrival to each waypoint, and the Audio Beacon will automatically
advance to the next waypoint.

Open scape compared to VoiceVista

2023-07-08 Thread Jody ianuzzi
I have been using the open scape beta for a couple of days now and I really
like it! It has many of the great features of Soundscape in addition you can
even have shortcuts for many of the features. Yesterday I downloaded VoiceVista
as the new app for Soundscape. It seems much more limited tThan Soundscape and
Openscape.

What do you all think?

Our provider charges six dollars a month for modem - worth it to me, since, if

Hi Group,

Now just what this has to do with the iPhone, I don't know, but as long as the
topic hasn't been locked, here is a great talking Thermometer. It is from
Thermoworks.

Thermoworks Talking Thermometer
phone: 801 756 7705
Model: RT-8400

This is a simple analog thermometer that does not connect to WiFi or echo or
Google home devices. You just insert it into a piece of food and press the
button and a clear female voice announces the temperature. At last report, it
costs about $40 US.

highlight a positive review posted on the App Store which specifically
acknowledges its accuracy and ease of use.

"This app includes the best scanner I have come across so far. It is very
accurate, I would guess 99%. It is very easy to read mail very quickly if
you put the scanner in document mode. The program will tell you how to move
the phone so that it can get an accurate picture. It is wonderful, very
easy to use, no errors where you get the left or right corners cut off or
anything like that. The money reader is excellent. There are some
experimental things, and I love the way they venture out to find new
products. This is well worth the lifetime price that I paid. I am very
happy with this product, and know that it will only get better as time
passes."

We're very happy to see that Supersense enables many more creative
solutions to our everyday lives with its constantly improving technology.

We’re looking forward to sharing more thoughts in the coming months!

changes with voicedream apps

Changes with Voice Dream apps

Have you heard the news? Learn about the changes and new names for our
beloved Voice Dream apps!

Voice Dream Reader logo

img class="resource-featured-image-hero" src="

alt="Voice Dream Reader logo"

Have you heard the news? The beloved Voice Dream apps are changing! The
original developer, Winston Chen has turned Voice Dream Reader over to the
Applause Group, a company able to sustain Voice Dream Reader. The name has
been changed to Text to Speech TTS Voice Dream. TTS Voice Dream enables you
to listen to PDFs, Web pages, and books using text-to-speech.

Note: On April 25, 2023, Voice Dream Reader became a subscription-based app
for $59.99 per year. A free trial was available.

Voice Dream Scanner and Voice Dream Writer remain with Winston; although,
he has formed a new company, Opus Noma and the app names have been changed
to VDScan and VDWrite. VDScan is an OCR app used to scan inaccessible PDF
or text image and converts the text to an accessible document that can be
read by a screen reader. VDWrite is a text-to-speech writing app that
reduces mistakes, helps you use the right words, and helps organize and
improve the structure of your writing.

Winston’s press release

Dear Customers, Partners, and Friends,

I am delighted to announce that Voice Dream Reader has joined Applause
Group as a leading product in their portfolio of apps.

Voice Dream Reader started 12 years ago as a side project during my
sabbatical in Arctic Norway. Since then, it has evolved into the best
text-to-speech reader, helping hundreds of thousands of people worldwide
read for learning and fun. Winning Apple Design Award in 2021 was the
crowning achievement of my professional life.

But I could not have done it without the users. You constantly provided me
with ideas for improvements and inspired me with your personal stories of
how Reader changed your lives. And I could not have done it without my
partners and friends who supported me at every step. For that, I will be
forever grateful.

While I look at the past with nostalgia, I also look to the future with
excitement. Applause Group is committed to investing in Reader and turning
it into a household name. It will be stewarded by a sustainable company
instead of being completely dependent on me. And that is good news for
everyone who relies on Reader every day.

With Reader going to a new home, Voice Dream Scanner and Writer will remain
with me under a different company, Opus Noma. (Noma stands for my children
Nora and Marcus.) And they will be renamed to VDScan and VDWrite. My new
email address is winston.c...@opusnoma.com.

Happy reading, as we all look forward to a bright future.

Winston

Exactly, so my question is whether you can use VoiceVista for turn by turn
directions, and if so, how would you do it since the route tab doesn’t seem to
be the way to go. Maybe you need to use voiceVista in conjunction with
something like Apple Maps.

I don't think it does that. It looks to me like you have to have dropped a
bunch of waypoints along a route and then you can create a route out of those
waypoints. It says on the route screen:

Create a route for yourself or for someone else by organizing a set of
markers as waypoints on a route. While out on your route with VoiceVista, you
will be informed on arrival to each waypoint, and the Audio Beacon will
automatically advance to the next waypoint.
