Subject: Gmail on my iPhone

I need to set up my e-mail on my iPhone and I have a question. The last time I
tried this on my older phone the signup process was easy but after I got it
going Gmail dumped down over 20 thousand messages from years past. On my PC I
use outlook for my Gmail and had it set not to save a copy of the message on
the server. I guess this didn’t work which resulted in the huge pile of
messages. Unless I’m mistaken there is no good way to delete large groups of
messages from the phone easily.

My question is, if I set up my Gmail again on this phone how can I prevent the
dumping of thousands of old messages onto it? Thanks.

Karl

Re: ParcelTrack App Recommendation

2017-05-19 Thread Scott Dollar
Hi,

I have a question for you.

Does this app will work for any UPS, USPS, EdEX, and any package delivery
companies can use that app to track down the package more easier?

Thank you,

Hi List,

I'm a fan of package tracking apps and have used ShipRack for quite some time
but have been disappointed that its notifications really haven't worked for
quite some time. I discovered the ParcelTrack app mentioned on an AppleVis
communication and think this will be my package tracking app going forward. I
think its premium version costing only $2.99 USD is a very good deal compared
to the Parcel app's ongoing subscription charge. I like that ParcelTrack
premium has a feature to add new packages to track by forwarding a shipment
notification email to your ParcelTrack Inbox and that it's available across
multiple devices and computers. I know these are pretty standard featurs in
tracking apps and the proof will be in performance but I like the price and
feature set of ParcelTrack and it is fully accessible based on what I've seen
so far on my iPhone 7 running iOS 10.3.2. Here's a web link to ParcelTrack for
any who want to read more about it:

Subject: Enquiry about Apple Magic Keyboard

Evening everyone.

I am writing in with an enquiry on the Apple magic keyboard which I am
looking into purchasing as early as next week.

Is it true that when pairing to your iOS device or Apple TV, there is no
pairing code to enter? In other words, it just pairs automatically? This is
what iMore claims anyway after doing a google search for "Magic Keyboard
iOS" without quotes. The manual obtained from the Apple support website only
documents how to use it with a mac, and that sounds cool as well, but my
main goal is to use it with my iOS devices.

Any responses greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

If you plan to scan books, having the Book Reading Aid plus the stand is very
helpful.

If you do not plan to do much with scanning books, but just individual
documents, you only need the Fopydo Scanning Stand.

Hi Don,

There is another vibrator company. It is called Ditto. Ditto has three
color to choice which they are black, white and clear. Ditto comes with a
wrist band that is a portable vibrator. It must to have the Ditto app on
your phone that is up to 100 feet away. The app is free. You can find the
Ditto on the Amazon website. I will have to find the website that is
directly from Ditto.

Hope this help you.

Hi Don,
I have the TCL Pulse which is a very small device. It is about two inches in
diameter and about 3/8 inch thick. I downloaded the TCL Pulse app from the
app store. Just pair it up and put it under your pillow. I guess I put it
inside my pillow case on the bottom side. It works great on the vibration
mode. I has three vibrations modes. Also has sound modes but I don't use
them as they are not loud enough for me with my severe hearing loss. You can
buy the device from Amazon.

Thanks both.

I had been looking on Amazon at that camera, but it seemed to be
considerably more expensive than some of the other options. However,
something can be as cheap as it likes, but if it doesn’t work, it doesn’t
matter how cheap it is, does it?

one to the dog or the harness. Video is recorded on an SD card, just check out

Re: MLB at bat

Hi,

I have tried to download the mlb.com at bat. I was told that it was free but
on my iphone 6 said that it was trying to get me to buy the $20 a month. The
reason is that I am deafblind and I am using the braille display.

How can I get the MLB.com at bat as free app?

Thank you,

I figure this latest iOS upgrade is minor but I'm sort of surprised I haven't

I expect we'd have heard if anyone experienced any problems with it but can
anyone comment on their upgrade experience?

Re: My iphones always disconnect from wi-fi

2016-07-19 Thread Scott Dollar

Hi,

I believe that your wifi is having a problem which it means not
communication with the wifi to your iphone. You will need to check with
your wifi router with your computer with the internet modem to make sure if
you are having the same issue. It is possible for you might need to get a
sight assist to look into it for you. If it is the wifi wireless router is
bad, you will have to get a new one.

I do not have any issues with my iphone 6 with my wifi wireless router from
Netgear.

Hope this might help you.

Hi All,

For the braille display and iOS users out there...

Do you find there is a delay from the point you type with your braille
display's keyboard and the audio output from VoiceOver on your iPhone or
iDevice?

I'm hearing from braille display users that there is a glitch which prevents
instant speech feedback on an iPhone.

They are reporting that when using a regular Bluetooth qwerty keyboard with
an iOS device there is no problem. Its when they try to type with the
braille display that causes the delay in audio feedback.

Please post if this is happening to you as I'm just about to purchase a
braille display to go along with my iOS device, but this bug is a little
worrisome. :)

I don't know if any of the below will assist, but these are my thoughts and
observations.
What Braille Input Mode are you typing in? i.e., 6-dot, 8-dot, or
contracted? (I use 8-dot, myself.

I don't (really) encounter the problem you mention. A thought I had was that
it might just be the shortness of the width, i.e., 14 cells; and it's easy
enough to re-route the cursor to your writing position again. (It is, of
course, one character behind where you are.)

There's also a Reduced Motion setting (I believe it's in the Accessibility
Settings). You could try toggling it to the opposite state of what it is
when you have the problem.

Hello all,
Since more then 1 year, I have a focus 14 blue braille display.
Until now, the device has never worked as expected with my iPhone 6. I have
already solved some issues/problems with changing settings but there is
still some annoying problem.

When I am typing in a mail or any other text area, with the braille-keyboard
of the focus, all goes fine.
But, it happens often that the braille display (and also the cursor) is
jumping to the beginning of the text I have already written.
This happens when I stop typing. I think it happens randomly , not after a
specifiek key I press on the braille display.

Is this still a bug in iOS or could a setting solve this problem?
Many thx for the answers and perhaps solutions.

Kind regards,
William Windels

Hi all,

I wanted to post an app that I think is actually meant more for translating,
but I am having great success with it for scanning. I have been mostly using
it for importing images with text that are on the web or in my screen shots.
However, just now, I took a picture of my TV screen to read the information of
a song on MusicChoice. It worked like a charm.

One thing to note, I wouldn’t recommend using this app for private or sensitive
data. I tried it in airport mode and it would not work. I’m taking this to
mean, the data/information is transmitted online. Who knows where it is going.

I just paired my U2 with my iPhone and it works basically like you say. Are you
sure you have blue tooth turned on in the U2? As soon as I hit pair on the
phone I got a message asking me to enter a pin on the U2 and I entered the same

getting the pin message on your U2. You might try resetting the unit to see if

Hi all,

I am trying to pair my Braille Sense to my iPhone again. I had it once but lost
it. Here is what I did:

1. Put the u2 in terminal mode.

2. Went to Braille settings in VO.

3. Double tapped on Braille Sense u2 not paired.

4. Entered for my security code.

5. Double tapped on pair.

Now it just says pairing unsuccessful. The u2 won't prompt me for the code to
put in. Can anyone lie Karl Smith chime in on this? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks,

Hi Sieghard,

My wife is using the laptop keyboard. This issue just started today and we just
downloaded the Facebook app last night. I had her reboot the laptop and it did
not help. She said when she type in an email or in MS word it types fine. But
when she types in Facebook she types one letter and then has to wait for a
period of time then type another letter. That is how slow it is. It has always
worked fine before. I find it really hard to believe installing the Facebook
app on her iPhone would have anything to do with it. So if anyone has any idea
why the typing on Facebook on her laptop is so slow please let me know.

Subject: Someone please help me, or I am going to pull my hair out!

Hi everyone,

I really hope someone can help me. I am at a loss as to what to do. It is
really driving me crazy! I want to throw my phone in the river!
I guess I would say this started happening a couple weeks ago. It was before I
took the update. I did not want the update. It automatically updated in the
middle of the night, which really pissed me off.
Anyway, I have a 5S. It has worked well since I got it. I want to say that I
got it in February, when I upgraded it for my for ass. I love the phone, and I
have overall really enjoyed it. However, it is started freezing up a lot! I
don't know why. It seems to do it out of the blue. It will do it if I am
sitting here playing with it and it's not charging, and it would do it if I am
playing with it, and it is charging. So that does not seem to make a
difference. I am my farted boyfriend to take a look at it, and I turned off
voiceover. He said when he tried to go to different amps, or just move the
screen around, he had no problems. This really disappointed me, because I am
guessing this must be an accessibility issue. But really I don't know.

For instance, just a few minutes ago I tried to write this email. It took me a
while to get the name of the group in the from box, then I couldn't get into
the subject box, no matter what I did. I had to reboot the phone three or four
times power it down three or four different times, rebooted again after I
powered it down, and right now it seems to be OK
I even left it off for about 10 to 15 minutes, after one of the times I shut it
down. But as soon as I turned it back on, and unlocked it, and started to go
through my list of apps, it started doing that shit again. It won't let me
swipe the screen. It is don't get frozen. But dinner will let me swipe, but it
might not open the app.

I feel like I am on a roller coaster ride with this thing. I don't know what to
do about it. I don't know if I should go to AT, or if I should go to the
Apple Store? Or I don't know if there is a thick that I can do for it at home.
I am really hoping there is, because I can forward to really spend any money on
it. I feel very frustrated! I wanted to throw that thing! I want to smash it!
But deep down not really, because it's my main mode of doing things, and my
main piece of accessibility. Well I do have a laptop. But I use my phone a heck
of a lot! Does anyone have any idea as to what could be going on?
Why is the rebooting affect not working?
Why is turning it off and on not working? Has anyone else seen this issue?
How do I take care of it? I seriously I'm going to start pulling my hair out!
Any help with this issue would be so very much appreciated! You would become my
new best friend. LOL!

Thank you so much!

Terri

What kind of form factor does the Braille Edge feature? At 40 cells, I’m
guessing it’s pretty long, but how thick is it? Are the keys comfortable to
type on? As in, do they have decent travel? Is the layout more or less similar
to their U2 notetakers? And, most relevant to this list, is the pairing and
navigation experience with iOS fairly smooth?

Thanks,

A good display for a good price is the Hims Braille Edge 40. It has 40 cells
connects with PCs or iPhones and has basic note taking abilities. It sells for
only $2,795.00. The only thing I would recommend other than this is to buy the
Executive Products leather case which sells for $95.00. The case that comes
with the Edge isn’t particularly good in my opinion.

Subject: Which Braille Display To Buy?

I don't have the money in hand yet, but I might become able to buy a braille
display. I would want at least 32 cells, preferably 40, and would use it both
with a pc running Windows 10, with either Jaws, or NVDA, and my iPhone, the
iPhone being the more important. I don't know much about braille displays, I
admit that I have never actually used one. I never thought I would have the
money I could use to buy one. So, if it were your own money buying it, which
one would those of you who use them recommend? I know about the Braille Edge,
the Brilliant, and the one from Freedom Scientific, there may be others. I
know the answer to this question depends upon who one asks, but I am seeking
opinions, in case this actually happens. Thanks for any opinions.

However, when she goes into an Field to type, nothing happens when she

Re: Question about iPhone upgrade

2016-03-30 Thread Scott Dollar

Hi,

Yes, it is true. It has to do with local wireless services. It has nothing
to do with Apple.

I do understand about this very clearly. If the first phone is the main
contract with the agreement with $40 or whatever, the second phone and more
will be $20 per phone under the share contract like family or whatever.

Hope this help you.

20 bucks to upgrade fro 6 to 6s??? never heard as I have been with apple

4s for four years and no one had told me of extra money for upgrading as
they went along without problems as never mentioning as long as I am with
verizon.

I guess someone on phone might miusconcept the idea. the best thing is go to

OOh dear, doubt you will get the same answer twice.

So, this is going to depend how much you want to pay, how much you want to
do, and how big you want a phone.

I'm sure you can do all the same on all models, and such differences there
are, I don't think are that major.
The SE is the smallest, but has the same fast processor as the 6S. Last
year's 6 is higher priced over here than the SE. Both the
6's are bigger, though about the same size as each other. If the idea of
that 3D touch thing appeals to you, then it is the highest
priced 6S.

Personally, I can't justify the extra price of either 6, let alone the
6-Plus's; so would vote for the new entry level model SE, as
it is still near enough the leading edge to last as long as any of the new
ones.

Remember, even the 5S was considered large and slim when first bought out.

Re: battery case and earphone jack

Subject: battery case and earphone jack

This is interesting. I bought a battery case for my 6s so I could have extra
battery life. When it arrived today there was a cord for charging, lightning
plug on one end and USB on the other. Along with this came a short cord with a
earphone end on one end that did not fit my earphone jack and a earphone jack
on the other that did fit earphones. So, what I believe is that as we buy new
equipment the adapters are being put in the package which means Apple is really
doing away with the 3.5, may have that incorrect, and going to a smaller
headphone jack. A friend said all this is being done to standardize all phones
to one standard. So, I have an adapter unless someone can tell me what else
that tiny cord could be used for. By the way, I have a battery case. Does it
charge with the phone or do I need to turn it on? Does
it automatically use charged battery in the case? Thanks for any thoughts and
information.

Subject: Lost iPhone 6S - insurances do sometimes pay

Hi all,

So, for those who didn’t read this before, I was visiting my family who own a
working cattle ranch in northern British ?Columbia over Christmas. I went for a
walk at -28 Celsius on December 22 and after getting to the end of the 1.3 Km
long driveway of the ranch I realized my brandnew iPhone 6S was no longer in
the chest pocket of my jacket. To make a long story short, I went home and
immediately tried “Find my iPhone” using my wife’s iPhone 6 and also tried to
call my number. Calls went straight to voice mail and my iPhone showed as
offline and I guess it is not too surprising that the phone would have turned
itself off in these temperatures.

My brother, sister in law and several of my nephews spent hours and hours
searching the driveway, snow on the gravel driveway itself was compacted and
next to it was maybe 10 inches of snow. We even bought a metal detector and
searched certain spots where my tracks indicated I had walked into some deeper
snow but after a total of at least 12 or 15 hours of searching over several
days the iPhone remained mysteriously lost. There is, by the way, no way
somebody may have found it and taken it because the ranch is very remote and
nobody else drove along that driveway.

I guess there is a small chance my new guide dog who was running around
off-leash found it on the ground and thinking it was a toy or something picked
it up and after carrying it off a ways may have dropped it.

Anyhow, now that the holidays are over, I contacted my insurance broker since I
added a small add-on policy to my home insurance which is supposed to cover my
iPhone in case of loss or theft which are situations where Apple Care will do
nothing for you. I added this policy a few years ago when I travelled to the
Philippines quite a bit to visit my then girl-friend and now wife because in
countries like this phone theft especially of an iPhone is very common. The
policy is I think about $30 a year and has a $100 deductable.

I explained the situation to my insurance broker, they called the insurance
company and registered a claim, a few hours later I received a call from a very
friendly young lady to whom I explained everything again while she was
recording it and taking notes. Once that was done she told me right then and
there that they would cover replacement cost of up to $1,029 which is the cost
of an iPhone 6S 64 Gb here in Canada.

I had bought the phone on contract for $480, but the insurance company will
cover full replacement cost and she told me I can basically go ahead and order
a new phone, submit the invoice once I have it and I will then get a cheque for
$1,029 + applicaple taxes and less my $100 deductable. She also said I was free
to purchase any iPhone and if I decided to buy a more expensive model I would
still get the cheque but of course anything on top of what my 6S cost would be
my responsibility.

I must say that I was very impressed wit the coverage and the service I
received. For once I did not feel like I was treated like a criminal which
sometimes seems to be the case when you try to claim something from an
insurance company who often will try to do anything so they don’t have to pay.
After having had a chance to use my Mom’s iPhone 6S Plus I decided I’d spend
the extra $130 and I ordered a 64 Gb space grey iPhone 6S Plus, of course I
also had to shell out the cost for a new Apple Care plan so in the end it will
cost me $300 or so to replace the lost phone, but still better than nothing. Of
course there is a small chance we may find the lost phone in April or so when
the snow is gone and since I also have Apple Care for it, I guess I could
theoretically get a replacement from Apple since I assume that after 4 months
in the snow and going through the melting process my 6S won’t work any more. If
it still does work I’ll be sure to contact Apple to tell them how tough their
phones are *smile*.

Just received a ship notification for my new phone an hour ago, so I should get
it some time next week.

Best regards,

Sieghard

Subject: Questions about braille display for iPhone

Hello everyone,
I am a braille user, but, have never used a braille display with my computer
or idevice. I am interested in possibly purchasing a braille display for
use with my iPhone. I would want something rather small. Since I have
never used one, I really know little or nothing about them. Please give me
some idea of a price, and what ever else I might want to consider. Thanks
in advance.

For typing in a login, you're probably best off if you choose uncontracted

trouble since the updates, getting input to work on My Focus, no matter
which input I use.
I wonder if it's the display itself, but it worked before. I even put
my typing keyboard on "nothing". I am still not getting anywhere,
especiall using my Ipad. What I want to do is enter my creditentials
for xm and I could do it on the phone, but not on the ipad, and both
have the most recent updates.

Could it be that app doesn't work on the ipad any more?
I'm jsut frustrated, I'm sorry.

I once made three calls to Canada on my ATT plan, totaling 149 minutes. I
thought since I asked the ATT to block my international access, any other
number I dial will be treated as local. Surprisingly I got a bill of 71
dollars for these calls.

I had a big fight with ATT, considering that I have my international service
blocked upon my request. How could it be that they cheated me and allowed me
to call international?

There answer was, blocking international does not apply to Canada and Mexico.

I argued that if blocking Canada and Mexico is not possible with the blocking
of international calling, then they must be free, because sometimes we dial
numbers without paying attention to whether they are in Canada or Mexico.

At the end I insisted on getting a credit for these calls, and I won after long
arguments and a threat to switch service.

Cheers,

Cris

Re: Missing some braille commands in iOS

2015-10-04 Thread Scott Dollar

Hi Stephanie,

The answer is no. You must use your finger to touch on the screen to move
the app to a folder. This is what my tech trainer said that it will not
work with the braille display to move the app on your iphone.

Hope this is clear up the air.

Mary, I think you get to the item chooser by pressing space with i.

As for the actions option in the rotor, press space with dots 2-3 or 5-6
to move backward/forward through your rotor; when you get to the actions
option, press space with dot 3 or 6 to perform a one-finger flick up/down.
Press space with dots 3-6 to perform a one-finger double-tap.

And if the double-tap-and-hold gesture on a Braille display works, just
perform a double-tap (space with dots 3-6) after that gesture, and the
delete option comes up.

Thanks,
Ari

Hi Jenifer. I’m only too glad to send you the info. You have until I think
2:00 pm on the 8th. Here’s the info below. A contribution of $25 gets you the
attachment and $35 or more gets you the bundle with the stand and attachment.

I designed and manufactured Fopydo Scanning Stand for the Blind and Visually
Impaired. I am contacting you because you showed interest in the Fopydo Scanning

Stand and I have just launched a kickstarter campaign for the Book Reading Aid
that is compatible with the stand. I am asking for your support to gauge

if there is interest in manufacturing of this product. Your support will also
be a great help with preparations for a production run since my own resources

are limited. If you know others who may be interested in this project - please
let them know.

If you are new to the Kickstarter concept, the Rewards section of the web page
lists various pledges that you can make to support the goal of manufacturing

this product and making it widely available.

Here is the link to the kickstarter page:

For example, I live in Oregon. I already have the stand, so I pledged $25
plus $3.00 for shipping, which is a very good deal.

So, for my initial $15.00 for the stand plus shipping, and the $28.00 which
will get me the book reading attachment, I will have a nice scanning setup for
a total of $43.00.

Show me another way to get this good of a setup for that little money.

If you don’t mind the tediousness of Prizmo, which is a fine OCR app, just
more steps to get a scan, you could have a really good scanning system for
$53.00 over the cost of the iDevice.

One day, maybe, KNFB Reader will retain formatting, so for $143, again you
would have a great scanning system.

I have both KNFB Reader and Prizmo already, which I can use free hand, but I
like having the stability of the stand if I am scanning something I’d likely
want to keep, especially if there is more than a couple pages.

I have to apologize. I misunderstood how this project works. Heres what The
developer said in a post to me:

  Larry,

You will actually get the scanning base for $25 and a bundle for $35. There
is a few dollars extra for shipping. For thise who pledge less than $25 - I

will ask them if they just want to help out or if they want to add a few
bucks to get the book reading aid. But - in most cases I got pledges of $25 or

  more.

It's like one of those electric signs that have texts moving automatically. I

Re: sports scores update

2015-09-08 Thread Scott Dollar
Hi,

I do not think so as tune in radio. The tune in radio is not helpful for a
profoundly deaf to listen to the tune in radio. The reason is that it has no
much hearing available. That is why it is more easier to use with the braille
display.

Hope this is helpful.

Respectful,

Scott

As far as play by play I think tune in radio may be a great app for that.
Now as far as keeping up with the sports scores team stream may be great for
that.

Now as far as play by play of sports games with tune in radio I could be wrong
but I think you need to get tune in premium to get this.
Here is the direct link to the tune in radio app.
