thank you all and leaving after this message

2017-04-29 Thread zoe fiogkos
Hi all I want to thank each and every one of you for your private and onlist
messages. Thank you to the mods and owners for not scolding me for the off
topic posts. However I have emposed and taken advantage of their kindness
and understanding so it's time for me to unsubscribe and I hope they will
remember my name and let me back in when I am well again.
For anyone who wishes to keep in contact with me this is my email address,
so we don't clog up the list with my personal story.
fiog...@rogers.com

Again thank you to all and may the good Lord bless each and everyone of you.
Sincerely
Zoe

prayers and reason for unsubscribing soon

2017-04-27 Thread zoe fiogkos
Hi my fellow elf's and Mrs. Clause. Hope you are all doing ok. Unfortunately
I have no choice, I have to unsubscribe from all the email groups I belong
to. I haven't been able to check email and be online for a long time and it
seems I will be out of things for much longer. When I turned on my laptop
this morning I had over fifteen thousand emails waiting for me. Given my
situation I just can't keep up anymore. I pray that one day I recover and
are able to join my favourite groups again. My family is against me telling
people what's wrong but I feel in writing this email I'm also helping myself
to come to grips with my illness. I will remain subscribed a few more days
so that I may read your thoughts in hopes that your words might help me to
continue to fight this awful illness.
Again I'm sorry for the off topic post and I hope the moderators can find it
in their hearts to forgive me, and if one day I recover I hope they will
remember me and let me back in to my favourite mailing groups.
Before I tell you all my story, I would like to thank each and every one of
you for either your help on various topics, or your individual private help
through the phone or private email, or your messages of getting to know me,
or your words of encouragement when it came to the mac, jaws, NVDA, windows
10, household tips, cooking instructions, prayers, and harmless chit chat.
If I offended anyone in anyway, or gave anyone a hard time please forgive
me.
Here's my unbelievable story.
Last August I was doing a lot of gardening mostly weeding to be honest. I
was on my hands and knees from morning to night pulling weeds and keeping my
property clean. I am grateful to the good Lord for blessing me to have such
a lovely property but it's old and no one ever took care of the garden. The
result is weeds on top of my weeds. Chemicals are forbidden here in Canada,
and I haven't been able to find an affordable solution, so I'm left with
fighting weeds on a daily bases. I am a sun lover and adore summer, last
summer was the first time in my life that I couldn't wait for summer to be
over. I was exhausted and I have nothing to remember for my 2016 summer
except pulling weeds all most every day for the whole entire spring, summer,
and fall.
In August I noticed 2 mosquito bites on my elbow and 2 on my inner left
thigh. The bites were very itchy just like normal mosquito bites, so I
didn't think anything of it. I also noticed my nails were black underneath.
I thought it was dirt from the garden, to spite that I was showering every
single day and cleaning my nails, the next morning they would be filthy
again. Again I thought it strange but I justified it in my head as to much
gardening. In August my husband and I visited a few local restaurants and
spent two nights in a motel in north Ontario for a weekend away.
I wanted to try my hand at building a small business doing something I love
so I decided to start making my own bracelets and selling them online. I
have always loved costume jewellery and to spite my vision problems, I have
been taught that there is nothing I can't do. My mother always said "try and
if you fail, oh well, life goes on. Try different things until you find
something you are good at and you love doing." So I talked to my mom and
husband and they both backed me as they always do. My mother who adores me
spent over six thousand dollars to buy my supplies, and encouraged me on a
daily bases. My husband turned half of my computer room into a work space
with special lighting, magnifying contraptions, shelving, etc. My husband
and mom bought me bins with dividers and I spent months sorting beads and
other supplies by color, size, and type. I got help from someone on one of
these mailing lists and he helped me to create labels to label all these
bins. Everything was going great, or so I thought.
I spent hours teaching myself how to make these beautiful bracelets, I
finally got the hang of it after much trial and error and I was ready to go.
I registered on etsy.com and opened up a Facebook small business page. I
bought more supplies to host a launching party with food, drinks, and gifts
for my guests to introduce them to my creations and my new business. While
all this was happening, I noticed in October that the mosquito bites were
not going away. They had become scabby and even more itchier.
I showed my mom and she justified it just like I had done in my mind. Due to
my type two diabetes they were taking a long time to heal as many things do
when you have diabetes.
At the beginning of November as some of you already know, I started to have
problems with my right eye. Long story short for those who don't know, I
suffer from a cornea disease. My cornea was trying to break. This had
happened before but this time it was persistent and my doctor had to try
different medications to stop the cornea from breaking. While I was battling
this cornea problem I noticed my right arm becoming very itchy and the two
mosquito bites had

If you tap the edit field and the keyboard pops up then it's next to the
spacebar.
For example let's say you want to reply to someone's post, you hit comment and
then slide your finger until you hear edit text, tap there and the keyboard
will come up. Then the dictate button is next to your spacebar.

Hello,
No, you need sighted assistance to set up the initial application with WI-FI.
Once this is done, then you can control the application and the vac with the
app without assistance.
I have one myself.

2016-09-05 Thread zoe fiogkos
Hi there, I purchased it because since I can't see the dirt I tend to vacume
the same spot over and over again and that slows me down. Another reason I
purchased this vacume is because since I'm slow at doing things since I feel a
lot this takes one chore off my hand. For example when my mom cooks it might
take her an hour to make a meal but it may take me two to three hours to make
the same meal. So now while I'm picking weeds or doing laundry the vacume is
getting done.

Hi Jim again, the unit is easy to clean for the most part. With a very damp
cloth I clean the top and bottom. Same with the dirt bin after emptying and not
planning to use again for the day. The part that is a pain like any other
vacume is cleaning the brush. If you live with a woman who has long hair well
that's the part that sucks. The hair gets intertwined into the brush and you
have to be very careful when loosening the hair from the brush. If it's just a
dog then you'll be fine. Brushes clean easy and same with bin.

RE: Neato ap updated.

2016-09-02 Thread zoe fiogkos
Hi Jim, I too have this vac. I don’t have any pets or guide dog. It’s very
convenient, but if you are a neet freak like me well then it’s good but it
doesn’t get the cob webs on the base boards. Not that I expected it too do so.
For the most part it does a really good job. It goes under the beds and tables
which is a bonus. Itt doesn’t do stairs of course. I find it cleans laminate
floors really well, vinal tiles not as much as I would like. Ceramic tiles does
very well. Carpets good too. App is easy to use once you get the hang of it.
Hope this helps

Hi Jim.
I love it! Lol... Funny storry about the vac and my dog Abel. When I first got
it... He wanted to play with it... Trying to pounce on it thinking he could
chase it... The very first time I used it... I'm not lying... The thing
followed him! He literally backed away from it... It kept following him... So
he ran into the bedroom and jumped on the bed! Lol.
I love the neato. Great purchase!

Hi to everyone who has this vac. The ap seems to have been updated... Still
works well... One ofs new features is the "find my neato" feature. This however
doesn't seem to work. I have noticed the errors... When there are... Are read
more consistently.
Happy neatoing!

Hey, cool, Mark. I thought that might be you, but if I remember correctly
(because I checked) the message was listed as From Mark, and the signature was
just Mark. Last time I checked, there were more blind people named Mark than
just you. I note that on the viPhone list your messages are from MTaylor, and
not Mark.

I very much appreciate the information, ans I'm sure many on the viPhone list
do,too, given the frequency of comments on viPhone about how frustrating
working with iTunes can be.

Hopefully, the info you posted here about how effective using the JAWS Touch
cursor is in iTunes will advance many of our experiences. It seems entirely
appropriate to me to post this JAWS info here on the viPhone list since using
bothApple and Windows products is necessary for many of us to optimally use our
iDevices.

Best, Keith

As I wrote in my original post, I find the Touch Cursor very useful with regard
to iTunes for Windows.

HI,

This is being copied from a message on another list. Curious to learn if it
helps.
Not able to check at the moment, or even later today.
Thanks, Keith

Copied from another list:

I find that with the latest version of Jaws, when it comes to the latest
version of iTunes, the Jaws Touch Cursor works very well on my Desktop PC.

Please remember that one does not need an actual touch screen in order to use
the Jaws Touch Cursor feature.

Subject: Re: Small update on the BotVac app accessibility.

Hi Zoe,

Glad you like the sound of the BotVac, I certainly still like mine! I shall
have a shot at answering your questions.

Different types of flooring: I have wood, tile, Laminate and carpeting. I can't
say that the Bot performs differently from floor to floor, but it just works!
There are 2 types of brushes, which are very easy to change, One is like a
squeegee, called the spiral blade brush, which, I find, is especially good for
hard floors, but does a good job on carpets too! However, the other brush, the
one which comes installed, is a mixture of squeegee blade and bristles. I think
that this latter brush might be best for a deeper carpet brushing. I plan to
use that one, say, once a week and see how that does.

You were wondering about thresholds, I have various types of these, some
are just a small step of about half an inch, while others are real thresholds,
I.E., a sort of wooden strip, 5 inches across, which has a small up-step of a
quarter of an inch, then a slope up and then down and a little fall-off, the
Vac seems to take a run at it and clambers over!! I was standing very still,
and the Bot climbed onto my foot, and then up my ankle! I'd say he got to about
a 45 degree tip before I lost my nerve and ran off! It is like being harrassed
by a big beetle! Getting onto rugs etc is no problem at all! One of the few
times I got a message saying he was stuck, I found him rocking on top of the
dog's rubber bone! So, I don't see a problem with your doorways. Mind you, When
you get your Bot, you should have a little time to play with him and decide if
it will work for you.

Falling down stairs? This morning, I did my upstairs. When I did it first
time, I was concerned lest he fall down. I already knew he had "cliff
detection" (which I wish I had!!) but I wanted to be sure. This time I was busy
elsewhere, so left him to it, with no problems. The really cool thing, I find,
is that if you put him, say, upstairs, where there is no dock to go home to, he
will go back, to the exact spot where you started him off. This means, you
don't have to worry about finding him again! If you get into a habit of placing
him in the same spot, you will always know where he is when he is quiet and
finished.

As far as accessibility goes, the app is well done and totally accessible,
apart from the battery status, which VO can't recognise for some reason.
Neither can the KNFB Reader app, as it is just a icon whith some indicator
bars. I am still working on a work around for this!! You do get a few of the
error messages, but not all. However, as Jeramy discovered, there is a work
around for this which, in my opinion, is acceptable. Today, my internet went
off and will probably, stay off until my partner gets back, so, firstly, I
found the app could not find the Bot. So, I just used the Home button and it
did its job for me. At one point, it stopped and "bling blonged" at me. I
couldn't guess what was wrong! I felt sure I had emptied the bin, the brushes
felt OK and the battery should have been fine. So, with no app and no internet,
I had to get the KNFB Reader up (thank goodness it doesn't need the net to
work!) took a shot of the screen on the Vac and managed to read, not perfectly,
but well enough, that the bin needed emptying. I did this, though there wasn't
anything in it! Maybe the act of carrying it upstairs sprinkled some loose dust
on its sensors or something, but it then worked perfectly. So, if push comes to
shove, An OCR app may do. I couldn't use BE My Eyes, because of the no net
situation.

Sorry for such a long reply, please ask anything you like about this, my
new Pal!

Sandy.
PS If anyone, with no sight at all and one of these Vacs can tell me how they
manage to dock it, manually, and be sure it is in the correct position, I would
love to know how you do it!

2016-06-27 Thread zoe fiogkos
Hi guys, I have been following this thread religiously because this gaget
sounds fantastic and for the most part accessible. However I can't afford this
right now but I'm hoping this will change sometime in the future, so I have
some questions.
My house is laminate flooring, tiles in the bathroom, carpet in the bedroom,
and plastic vinil in the kitchen. Does this vacume distinguish between the
different types of serfaces and vacume accordingly? Also the bathroom, kitchen,
and bedroom have a small barrier in the doorways. I'm not sure how to explain
this but there is a wide strip, like a small step separating the rooms from the
laminate flooring in the livingroom dining room, can the vacume pass through
these small barriers, can it somehow step over these seperaters? Also when I
take it up stairs to another lecvel, will it know to vacume the whole level
without falling down the stairs?
Thanks for any help and feedback provided in advanced.
Regards
Zoe

Hi Jeramy and all interested in the BotVac app accessibility!

My Bot just did the ground floor and returned itself to the dock. I heard
the tune and got the message "I am done cleaning", then, I heard, what I now
know to be an error sound, a sort of "bling blong" repeated a few times at a
minute's interval. I have had this before and when it occurs at the end of a
successful cycle of cleaning, I can be fairly sure it means the bin needs
emptying . But, this time, upon seeing the error showing up in the app, I
tapped on "more info" and, as Jeramy said, it took me straight to the
appropriate webpage and he error showed up, as I had expected, "bin full' or
some such. This is great! This little discovery has just extended accessibility
of the app/BotVac enormously!! Now, just the setting up of the Wifi and the
battery status and we are fully there!!

Sandy.

Hi Zoe,

Here is how to do this without erasing everything:
1. Open the App Store
2. The “Features” tab at the bottom left should be selected, if it is
not, double tap on it to select it.
3. Now touch the features tab again and then swipe left, you should be on
“Terms and Conditions”, if not, touch again the Features tab and swipe left
again, sometimes it takes a moment for the page to load.
4. Swipe left one more time and you should hear “Apple Id” followed by
your Apple Id email address. Double tap on this button and you hear a tone and
a few options pop up, you’ll find the following on the screen:

Apple Id – this is at thr top
Your Apple Id email address – this is o the second line or if you swipe right
once
View Apple Id button – this is the first button you can tap
Sign Out
I forget – this is if you forgot your password and want to reset it
Cancel – to cancel out of that screen.

5. You want to tap on “Sign Out”.
6. You are now back to the main screen and where before when you swiped
left once from Terms and Conditions you had your Apple Id, you now have a “sign
In” button, double tap on it.
7. You will have two options: “Use existing Apple Id” and “Create New
Apple Id”. Double tap on “Use existing Apple Id” since your husband has an
Apple Id already.
8. On the next screen you have two edit fields, one to type in your
husband’s Apple Id and then of course one for his Apple Id password. Enter
these and tap on “OK” then he’ll be signed in with his Apple Id.

If he is also signed in to iMessage and Facetime with your Apple Id you have to
go to each of them in Settings > Messages and Settings > Facetime, double tap
on the Apple Id, sign out and sign back in with his Apple Id. Potentially you
also want to check in Settings > iCloud and make sure he is signed in there
with his own Apple Id.

Good luck,
Sieghard

RE: videos on an iPhone 6

2015-12-29 Thread Zoe Fiogkos
Ok that's strange, but it worked. I opened a text message from my better half
and then when I went into my contacts there was the option under his name.
Don't know why it would work that way but hey problem solved. Thank you so
much.
Does anyone now know how to help me with my video saving issue?
Thanks again
Zoe

videos on an iPhone 6

2015-12-29 Thread Zoe Fiogkos
Hi guys, my husband who is sited got a free iphone 6 and for the most part
he is loving it. Even though I'm a blind user I'm successfully teaching him
how to use it, but I've run into 2 problems and I'm hoping you guys can
help.
I don't know if I'm having a brain fart, excuse my language or if I've never
done this and simply don't know how.
Problem 1 my husband took a home video and he wants to save it onto our
laptop. Using itunes how do we save the video onto our laptop so we can
delete it off his phone. His phone is only 16 gb capacity so he wants to
save things on the laptop. How do we do this.
Problem 2 we want to use facetime between us but on my phone which is a 6
plus I can't see him on facetime. When I go into my contacts for example
Kathy, voiceover says iphone text iphone call iphone facetime. But when I
go under my husband I only get text and call. Any ideas?

Zoe

RE: videos on an iPhone 6

2015-12-29 Thread Zoe Fiogkos
Hi Sieghard
Sounds easy enough, that is how I copy and save my photos, so there shouldn’t
be a problem. I will try it when he gets home. Thanks so much for waking up my
brain to do this. As for the facetime, it’s very strange. I’ve checked all
his settings, he’s connected, facetime is on, etc.
And still I was unable to see the facetime option under his name in contacts,
however when another member suggested I view an imessage from him, I did so and
bang the option appeared under his name when I went into contact. Very strange
and I can’t explain it but somehow the problem is solved. Again thanks for
helping I really appreciate it. By the way I want to say thanks to you for
being such an active and helpful member on this list because I have learned a
lot from you just by reading your responses for help to various problems of all
the different members who ask for help. Sometimes you have solved my problems
or answered my inquireies

Without even knowing it. So I thought I would take this opportunity to send
you my sincerest thanks from the bottom of my heart. I wish more people were
like you and of course some other members on this list, who help without any
materialistic or financial compensation and you seem to enjoy helping and that
makes it even more special.

Hi Zoe,

Photos and videos can be copied to a PC just like you would copy something from
a USB stick or SD Card. Connect your iPhone to the PC with the Lightning cable,
open Windows Explorer with Windows Key+E, find the iPhone which should show up
and you can browse to the images folder, find the photo and/or video you want
to copy and just copy and paste. You may or may not be able to delete it from
there as well, for me I somehow can’t delete pictures, others have said they
can, but once copied, you can always go to the Photos app on the iPhone and
delete the video there.

As for Facetime and iMessage, make sure he has this turned on in Settings and
also that he is connected to the internet either via WiFi or via cellular data.

Regards,
Sieghard

solution for my facebook mesanger videos

2015-11-17 Thread Zoe Fiogkos
Hi everyone since no one new how to help me, I asked my friends and did some
investigating on my own and figured it out.
Just in case someone wants to know how to do it, here's my explanation.
I could not figure it out using the iPhone, but I did figure it out using
the computer. I'm sure the process would be similar for a mac and a pc.
Basically I went into facebook, I clicked on messages, then I clicked on the
name of the person who sent me the messages. As I scrolled through the
messages, I heard graphics. When I got to the video I heard play video and I
clicked on it, now with windows I was given the option to save, but I'm sure
with the mac you could right click and download and save the video. Now I
think I can somehow import this video to iTunes and transfer it to my iPhone
if I want.
Regards
Zoe
p.s. may be someone can give me instructions how to put it on my phone, if
you know how, thanks so much

RE: [Bulk] RE: Why does my iPhone hiss at me!!!

2015-11-17 Thread Zoe Fiogkos
Guys the swishing sound you guys are hearing is a feature for sighted people.
When you touch the home key if you ever so gently touch it twice without
pressing it you will hear the swoosh sound. What that actually does is it
moves the top half of the screen to the bottom so that people don't have to
stretch there fingers to get to the top half of the screen. Don't worry about
it, it does nothing for blind users accept to give us a nice sound effect.

extracting video from facebook mesanger help

2015-11-14 Thread Zoe Fiogkos
Hi girls and boys, hope your all doing ok, I need some advice and help.
Someone sent me pictures and videos on facebook mesanger. When I clicked on
each picture at the bottom left hand corner there was an unlabled button. I
clicked on that and it gave me the option to save the picture, and from what
I can see it saved it to my camera roll. However I cannot figure out how to
save the videos. Any ideas I'm using an iPhone 6+running ios 8 pointt
something. I have a windows pc and a mac however I'm not too good with the
mac yet. Anyhow any ideas how to save these videos from facebook mesanger
onto my phone and if not then is their a way from the computer?
Thanks in advanced
Zoe

help with text messages

2015-06-01 Thread Zoe Fiogkos
Hello everyone, I know I hardly post but it's because you guys cover so much
in your threads that all my answers have been answered through all the
topics posted on this list, so thank you for that and all the great work you
do.
However now I've run into a problem and I'm stumped. I am using an iPhone 6+
with voiceover. Someone and I have conversed extensively through text
messaging and now I need to go back and read these messages but I can't. I
tried swiping down where I hear voiceover say page 81, I swipe down again
and I hear page 80, etc. but when I flick left so voiceover to read the
messages it does not. I turn voiceover off and with one finger swipe down
and I see all the messages scrolling till I get to the top of the
conversation, I turn voiceover back on and it reads me the first message but
then that's it, no matter how much I flick it doesn't read anymore messages.
Any ideas?
Can anyone help? Using voiceover how can I read this lengthy thread of
messages?
Thanks to anyone who can help
Regards
Zoe

2015-06-01 Thread Zoe Fiogkos
hi again lets start from the beginning
I open the messages app
Secondly I see a list of messages from different people.
Thirdly I touch the screen and I hear a contacts name and the first few lines
of the last message sent or received, for example
Helen smith may 31st 2015 I’m bored can you call me.
Fourth I double tap with one finger on that wich I have described above and it
opens up the message screen with all the previous messages and the text field
and I hear voiceover say, Helen messages back button.
If I single tap with 4 fingers voiceover says send dimmed.
Any ideas where I go from there?

Hi there,

I am a little confused. Do you mean that you cannot read messages when you are
in the main conversation window of a contact's message? Once I double tap on
the contact in messages, I usually do a four-finger double tap to get to the
bottom of the screen, then flick left to read all of the messages. I'm not sure
where you are getting the page thing.

Hi tom, thanks for responding so quickly. I’m so disappointed because I don’t
have an ipad could you possibly give me an email for the developer so I could
send him a request. I’m a lover of geography and this sounds absolutely
fantastic, if I could afford an ipad I would get it just for this app no matter
how stupid that sounds that’s the way I feel. Thanks again.

Hello guys again,
I’ve been playing with my talking atlas app between shoveling snow off my
sidewalk and deck. It is 32 degrees here in Northern Vermont for the first time
in over a month.

There is a very accessible trivia game that proves my ignorance. I can’t wait
until the grandchildren come over for dinner this evening and I can see if I
know more than a fifth grader.
I do not think it could work well on an IPhone because one of the most
interesting features is moving your finger over the world map and having the
oceans and countries named. Many of the countries are small and my fingers are
large.

I found it is best using the app with voice over turned off. Two finger swipes
up and down gets you to the menus and a two finger swipe to the right or left
moves you through the choices. A double tap selects the item.

I had problems getting back to the main menu so I pressed the home button,
opened the app switcher and closed talking atlas completely. then when I opened
the app again I could get to the settings and store menu. Unless you want maps
of India, there are no other choices.
Of the few countries I checked out, there is an extensive history list of
important dates. Other information can be found out for free on apps like World
facts. But this app plays the national anthem of every country and describes
the flag completely.

There is another great option: choose a country like Japan, put your finger on
the map and it will tell you to go, north, go east, go east, go south, until,
Congratulations, you found Japan. A really fun way to find out where countries
are located. An for this American, if it doesn’t have a MacDonalds or a
Wal-Mart, I probably don’t know where it is on the map.

If you search using the App Store app on an iPhone or iPod Touch you won't find

virus apple accessibility team

2015-02-10 Thread Zoe Fiogkos
Good evening fellow listers,
Today while having my morning coffee, I picked up my iPhone (which by the
way is a 6 plus running the latest ios) to watch days of our lives like I
do every day.
I opened safari, the page I usually watch the show on, and it would not let
me click to watch the video. A pop up appeared saying virus detected ios
security or something to that affect. I didn't know how to get out of this
pop-up. The background was gray and this pop-up in the middle my only
choice was an ok button. Panicking I clicked it and it took me to some
other website. Quickly coming to my senses I clicked home button and got
out of there. However I thought when I click on safari again it will take
me to the same website. I went into safari and clicked pages and clicked
close on that website. I lost voiceover and had to do a hard reset because
nothing on the phone worked. When I restarted the phone everything seemed
fine. So smart me said let me try this again.
I went back to the website and I saw where I usually click to watch the
video now voiceover was saying click to close add and continue, so sounded
logical and I clicked it, oh no, now we have a new problem.
Like before a pop-up appeared saying safari security major issue please
contact apple support at 1877-203-4097 or I think that's the number.
Automatically my wheels in my little brain began to work and I thought
something isn't right.
Since I'm a voiceover user I thought I better call apple accessibility and
make sure that I'm actually speaking to someone from apple, and not any tom,
dick, or harry.
I called apple accessibility at the number that you wonderful people on
these lists have provided, (by the way thanks for that).
They were wonderful, patient, and absolutely a pleasure to deal with. The
website apparently has been hacked and the pop-up with the phone number is a
scam to get you to call them so they can ask you for all your personal
information.
At least that's what the teck thought. He told me to stay away from that
website for a few days in hopes that they get it sorted it out, and of
course reminded me to never call a number that says they are apple support
but to always call the numbers I know to be true. In speaking with the teck
I told him about some problems I'm having reading my Greek recipes on the
mac using the rss readers and he passed me over to a mac tech that is
familiar with voiceover and we played around with the mac for a while. I'm
so impressed with the people I spoke to today.
Just wanted to let you all know about my strange experience and my wonderful
experience with apple accessibility. I feel I should post this to all the
lists I belong to that deal with apple products so people can read about my
experience and not make the same mistakes I did. So please accept my
appologies if you get this more then once.
Have a great evening
Zoe

new iPhone 6+

2015-01-10 Thread Zoe Fiogkos
Hi all, my wonderful husband got me an iPhone 6plus for Christmas, wich for
me was this past Wednesday. I thought I would share my thoughts on the
phone with the list.
I am severely visually impaired but not totally blind so I do depend on
voiceover. Having said that for those of you who have some vision, here is
what I have to say.
The colors on the six plus are stunning, the clarity is fantastic. I cannot
see pictures by holding them in my hand but with a cctv something seems to
compute with my eyes, so viewing pictures on an iphone six plus has given me
the ability to see what my husband looks like after 18 years of marriage,
scary, just kidding.
The speaker is fantastic my music sounds fantastic, battery life is
significantly better then my 4s. There is lots of room on my home screen so
having all my folders that I had on my 4s doesn't take up the whole screen.
On my 4s the folders took up the whole screen from what I can see I have
lots more room for more folders. I haven't had the chance to play with the
features that I didn't have on the 4s but so far I'm loving it. Yes it's
certainly much bigger then the 4s but that doesn't bother me, usually
visually impaired people like bigger screens. I like both the zoom view and
the standard view of the phone but haven't decided wich one I'm going to
stick with. That's all for now as I play with it more I'll let you all know
my likes, dislikes, and observations.
Regards
Zoe

RE: [Bulk] Re: feedback from a multi-lingual user

2014-12-03 Thread Zoe Fiogkos
Hi I can also confirm these bugs. I use English and Greek. Speech rate
changes on it's own, however in my case autodetect languages in mail, text
messages, notifications etc. works but doesn't work properly. Meaning when
Greek text is detected voiceover starts speaking Greek, but it does it
improperly. What do I mean you ask? It reads letters instead of words and
sentences, and it reads some of the Greek letters in Greek and some in English,
so I hear 2 voices. Of course as soon as the language is detected since I know
of this problem, I use the roter and switch languages and problem solved and
I'm able to hear the proper text by the proper voice. I have told apple about
this way back in ios 6 but they haven't fixed it. The issue of the speech rate
changing came with the latest update.
I'm still happy that my iPhone can read my native tongue so no complaints, and
I am greatful that with the new and latest update Greek has been included in
the dictate feature that comes with voiceover accessability. Before the latest
update I had to use dragon dictate for anything I wanted to write in Greek but
now I have the dictate, now only if they would add a Greek spell check that
would be great.

This is precisely my experience too. I too use the Greek language, and I also
have to switch to Greek proper via the rotor rather than rely on automatic
language switching. I also reported it very strongly back in iOS 6 time when
things went wrong with Greek.

Subject: TextSync - Send text from a Windows computer to your iOS device

Hi all,

I just installed a great little iOS productivity app called TextSync. This
app allows you to type whatever you want on your Windows computer and have
the text instantly show on your iDevice. You can send text from your iPod or

iPhone with or without your iDevice being attached to your computer and you
do not need iTunes running.

Here's how you use this app. You type in a url into the Run dialogue of your

Windows computer (you only have to do this once and save the path as a
shortcut on your desktop etc). You are then presented with a very simple and

easy to use screen with a single edit field. You type in your message into
the edit field then down arro to a send button, and your text will
instantaneously show on the TextSync app on your iOS device. You can now use

the Copy button in the TextSync app to copy the text to the iOS clipboard
and move the text into any other app. I launched Internet Explorer on my
Windows desktop computer and copied a Wikipedia article with 137,000
characters and pasted in the desktop version of the TextSync edit field, and

it took only a couple of seconds for the text to be copied to my iPod--it is

definitely a fast little app.
Again, it is important to Note that your iDevice does not have to be
physically connected to your desktop at all. Nice!.

Since I want to be able to fill my iPod with very important private
information, I contacted the app developer to inquire about the security of
his app. Here is his reply/explanation:
Hello,
The security is ensured by P2P direct link via IP, thus there is no chance
to perform a mid-person attack (which happens when you attempt to connect to

a server by entering domain name, which need DNS servers to resolve the IP
address).
The direct link need no DNS server, and all your data stream remains on the
local network, not over the Internet.
You can rely on the Wi-Fi connection.

Here is the link where you can read up on this app including a very good
audio podcast on how to use this app.
http://www.applevis.com/apps/ios/productivity/textsync-typing-computer

Here is the link to the apps store:
TextSync - Typing from computer on the App Store on iTunes
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/textsync-typing-from-computer/id866535807?mt
=8ign-mpt=uo%3D8

Oh yeah, though this app is $3 I'm using the free version, after the initial

ad when starting the app, the additional very small ads at the bottom of the

screen don't interfere with the use of this app at all. For $3, this is a
great buy and sure to be one of my most used apps when I make the purchase.

Subject: RE: TextSync - Send text from a Windows computer to your iOS device

Zoe, the first step is to get the TextSync app on your iPhone 4S. It sounds
as if you might have already downloaded it to your computer through iTunes
which would give you the option of syncing your computer to your phone
through iTunes to transfer the app to your phone. Your other choice is to go
to the Apps Store on your phone, search for TextSync with no spaces between
Text and Sync and download it straight to your phone. The developer is
Notable Group. I think this would be easier than syncing the computer to
your phone via iTunes to transfer the app.

Once the app is installed on your phone, the first time you run it, you will
be presented with the URL you will need to put in the address box on your
computer's browser in order to link your computer with your phone. This is
the URL you were asking about in your post. You should bookmark this URL
address in your computer's browser. Be aware that the URL provided by the
app consists of numbers, periods, and a colon within it such as
192.168.1.35:1515. I have my phone set to only pronounce some punctuation
and this colon was not spoken by VoiceOver on my phone. In my case, the
colon came before the last 4 numerical digits in the URL.

Once the URL provided by the TextSync app is successfully entered into your
browser, a box will open on your browser while the app is running on your
phone and anything you type into that box will automatically appear in the
comparable box on the app. There is a button below the box allowing you to
copy this text to make it easy to transfer it to another app on the phone
for pasting. It is also possible to place text into the box on the app for
transfer up to the computer into the TextSync URL opened in your browser.

I hope the above makes sense but write back if you have more questions. The
app is very useful.

Again, it is important to Note that your iDevice does not have to be
physically connected to your

RE: Suggestions Needed Concerning How to accumulate gold in Solara Game, and Questions to anyone who has completed the Game

2013-09-18 Thread Zoe Fiogkos
Hi everyone I really love this game. Once the wonderful developers added the
manage shops button, things are much easier. When starting the game you
don't realize that the castle expantions will stop around the 30 level mark
from what I can see the castle is 12 by 24 when I got to this state I had to
delete a lot of little shops that were giving me small amounts of gold and
build the bigger ones. That is the whole idea I think that you will destroy
smaller shops as you progress through the game to make room for the bigger
ones. Some times you half to just camp out and accumulate gold so that you
can use at the later more expensive levels and believe me they get really
expensive both for building shops and training heros. I have but esper to
help me along and to support the developers but you don't need to, you can
play the game all the way through with pretty good results. My only beef
with this fantastic otherwise game is I feel the arena is very unfair.
I have a funny feeling that if you manage to win first place in the arena
more then two times no matter what you do it will not let you even get close
to first place.
I have one in the early stages twice and ever since then even if I up levels
during the week to be the same with other players, even if I change my hero
combinations, even if I battle castles with heros at least three levels down
from me a lot of the times I get a big fat defeat. There have been times
where I did nothing no building no questing no nothing accept fight in the
arena we are talking about approx. 400 fights in a day and no results accept
for defeats. I think that's a little unfair because yes everyone should win
and have a chance but concoring a game with constant play compaired to
someone who may play only once a week makes the game sort of rigged lol,
don't get me wrong I'm not complaining as much as it sounds like I am just
sharing my observations. I otherwise love the game and I can't wait for the
developers to come out with solara 2 or some other game. I hope when I
reach level 50 there will be an option to restart the game, but I have no
idea I'm on level 40.
Anyhow sorry for the long message but just wanted to share my thoughts.
Regards
Zoe

So all of this just gradually takes a little longer as you go.

Exactly your right. I find some times the battle button gives me a few more
wins then other times the chalange a close rival gives me more wins, I guess
it depends on what the computer wants to do no matter what we want. The
other thing that baffles me is even if I use the skip button to go through
the fights faster there are some people that I noticed may go up even more
then a 100 points in a few minutes. I too have gone up quite a bit in a few
minutes when using the skip button and getting ratings like +20 but I've
noticed on the first day of battles people going up 1000 points in a very
short amount of time, how do they do it? Why aren't they getting defeats?
Meaning let's say for argument sake someone has a max food of 1000 food and
they keep clicking skip, obviously they are going to move up very quickly
all most like magic but the question remains why aren't they getting
defeats? I've done the same thing by moving really quickly but when I'm
getting victory after victory all of a sudden I'm getting like 5 or 6
defeats in a row and all my hard work goes for nothing. Hope my rambling
makes sense but the truth of the matter is I'm stumped and really trying to
figure it out.

no, winning has nothing to do with it. i am at level 50 and have
lost to 3 level 45 heroes. and next try beaten three 49 level
heroes. I can't figure it. so i keep trying to at least be in the
top 10 some week lol.

language settings help please

2013-08-27 Thread Zoe Fiogkos
Hi listers, first of all I have not been able to send mail for a while due
to technical issues that now have been solved, so just wanted to say it's
great to be back.
Now onto my issue and questions.
Since I speak 2 languages fluently like a lot of people, obviously the
accessibility issues on the iphone have some what solved this for me.
However having said that and being greatful to apple for giving me the
opertunity to read write and access content in my native language I have an
issue that I'm baffled by. I have my iphone language set to English and the
Greek language as a secondary language, I flick up and down to access the 2
languages but unfortunately there is a bug and the Greek is not working
correctly and apple knows about this, the only work around for this at this
point is to actually set the iphone language layout to Greek everytime I
want to read Greek. I know none of you can solve the bug issue, but my
question is this, why can't I set the iphone language to Greek and English
as a secondary language? I would like the main language to be Greek and to
turn the roter to language, flick up and switch to English when I need, if I
have the main layout set to English and flick up I get the Greek, why can't
it be the other way around? Does anyone know how to set this up? I hope
I've made my issue clear and that it doesn't come across as rambling to
those reading. Sorry for the long message and hope someone out there can
help, and of course I appreciate everyone's help and valuable time.
