Couple of IOS 12 Questions
Couple of questions I hope someone can shed a little light on! Firstly, how do you go about adding a phone number from a text message to a new contact? I for my life cannot figure it out. Secondly, has anyone else noticed that now when creating a new text message and wanting to add an emoji that voiceover will no longer read what it is? RE: Setting up the "say cheese" Siri shortcut

IOS 12 and Bluetooth
I know it is probably something I'm just not noticing but after updating to IOS 12 the Bluetooth indicator that used to show on the status line, no longer shows even when Bluetooth is on. Interesting Text Tone Issue
Lately, I've had issues with my assigned text tones only working when the phone is unlocked. If the phone is locked, I get the default text tone. Headphone Help
I know this has been discussed allot on this list but unless you are looking at the time, you don't pay attention. So, saying that, I am looking for a good sounding set of Bluetooth headphones for music and movies. Also, decent call quality would be nice as well. HI, I recently purchased the parcel track app to replace shiprack but am having difficulty with sending tracking numbers to my parcel track inbox. I am using the email address assigned to me and sending from the account that I signed up with but every time I send a UPS tracking number to parcel track and go to my inbox it says can't be found. Am I missing something here? I am just inserting the tracking number in the body of the message when sending to parcel track. Ship Rack Notifications
Since updating to IOS 10 the ship rack notifications has stopped. The only way to obtain delivery updates is to actually go into the app and tap on refresh. Has anyone else had this issue? KNFB Keeps throwing me out
I am running the latest update to my IPhone 6s and when using KNFB to scan a document, 2 out of 3 times I will get thrown out and have to go back in. Has anyone else had this issue? OverDrive Help
I just recently got signed up with my local library and installed OverDrive which I am enjoying tremendously. However, I am wondering if there is any other method of fast forwarding and rewinding other than the 15 seconds button shown or having to go back a hole chapter at a time. Thanks for any help in this matter. I downloaded the new RS Games app onto my IPhone 6s and am having a couple issues that I'm wondering if it is just me. Firstly, whenever I send a chat message the background music goes away. Secondly, the speech will go away in the middle of a game and I will have to dump the game and go back in. This happens quite often. I tried unloading voiceover and just use the built in speech but does the same thing. This happens with both the Alex voice and any of the others. I wrote the developer and this is what I was told: Hi === The sounds have been upgraded to correctly use the volume controls on the device. You will need to adjust your voiceover volume relative to the system volume to get the balance you desire. I then use the volumn buttons on the side to set the sound of dice world and the volumn in the roder to turn down voice over and everything works fine now. Hope this helps. Parcel has also already implemented 3D Touch, if you hard press on the app on a 6S or 6S Plus you get shortcuts for adding a new delivery or to open the barcode scanner. I believe Parcel costs 99 Cents a year if you want the full functionality with push notifications and all. But I’d rather pay a bit for a good tracking app so they hopefully stick around rather than not do so and then have them disappear like Track This or not update the app to support the latest iOS as seems to be the case with Ship Rack. Help with Restore of IPhone 6s
I just got a new IPhone 6s last night and started a restore from ICloud at the AT&T store. When I left the store I don't think the restore was completed so got logged off their WIFI network. I logged onto my own WIFI network when arriving home but this morning it still says it is performing a restore. Looking at the icons I don't see where any of them state they are being restored. I know it doesn't take over 12 hours to do a restore. I also clicked on ICloud/backup and it shows there is a restore in progress. I can click on stop restoring IPhone but it says that any data that has not been downloaded will not be restored or back upped in the future. Any suggestions here? When you contact Netflix technical support and request that audio described be activated on your account they have to put you into some sort of what they call test phase. They told me I wouldn't notice any difference in service and so far I haven't and audio described works fine now. I'm not Sieghard, but keep in mind that right now the apple TV 4 does not support described audio from Netflix out of the box. You will need to call Netflix technical support and request that they enable it for you. Depending on who you call it could be a struggle. Sieghard Thank you for your responses but sending it back isn’t an option since I was told by the customer service person that it couldn’t be returned. Also, why is that the answer given every time someone gives there opinion on this list, “well if you don’t like it just send it back”. I do think those features you mentioned are neat but personally not worth $150.00 to me and you can already move forward and backwards on the apple tv 3. My home is full of apple products so even if I could I wouldn’t send it back I just said if I had to do it over again I would have been a little more patient and purchased it further down the road. If having Siri is worth the purchase to you then by all means go for it! For one thing it has SIRI and just being able to skip forward and backward while playing a movie is a really nice feature all by itself. Also searching for movies with SIRI is quite nice. I also like the fact that I can press the menu button three times quickly to turn Voiceover on or off, not sure if this worked on the third gen, but on my second Gen I had to press and hold it and then select to turn off Voiceover from the little menu. Also, you say you had it for a few weeks, if it’s less than 30 days just pack it back up and return it to Apple for a full refund if you don’t like it at this point. You can always repurchase it a year or so down the road when it’s more complete. Here is my two cents for what it is worth! I’ve have owned the apple TV 4 for a few weeks now and I also own the apple TV 3. Firstly, let me say that I have no doubt that the apple TV 4 will do nothing but get better in time, however, if I had it to do over again I would not have purchased the apple TV 4 at this time. In my opinion, right now the apple TV 4 has nothing to offer us that the apple TV 3 already does except a higher price tag. I really like the layout of the new remote but like Kerri already stated it is very sensitive but not very responsive. I find myself swiping several times to get it to move where I want it to, and if you’re watching something with the remote in your hand, you better lay the remote down somewhere because if you rub against the remote you will activate something. I was so frustrated with the new remote I went to Amazon and purchased me another one of the standard remotes to use with the apple TV 4. As far as apps, right now there just isn’t enough there that is accessible to justify the cost for us when you can purchase an apple TV 3 for $69.99 and get a lot more for your bucks. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not bashing the apple TV 4 just stating that I should have been a little more patient and waited a little while before purchasing. Just got the apple TV 4 and am having issues with using Siri. When I press the Siri button I immediately get Siri stating that she didn't understand. I have no chance to give her any command. Weird FaceTime Issue
I just recently started having an issue with receiving FaceTime calls via my IPhone phone number. When I looked under settings/FaceTime my phone number is dimmed out and I cannot click on it. I did some additional testing and discovered the following: I took the 3rd generation apple TV which is my new one from downstairs and connected it upstairs where the 2nd generation is having the reboot issues. I connected it with the optical audio cable just like the 2nd generation was. The 3rd generation played with no issues at all. So, in closing it isn't the optical cable like I suspected. So, back to the drawing board and hoping for some suggestions. Sieghard I did some additional tests and I now think I know what the issue is but not sure how to fix it. Here is the current setup. Downstairs: I have the newer apple TV connected to a Samsung TV via a H D M I cable and setup as wireless. No issue with this setup at all. Can stream video and audio. Upstairs: I am using the older apple TV here and have it setup as wireless as well. Now, instead of using a H D M I cable, I have it connected to a DAK via an audio cable. The DAK has two speakers connected to it. I can stream ITunes radio stations with no interruption at all. However, if I try to stream anything with video the apple TV will reboot. Now, as an experiment, I took the apple TV from upstairs and connected it downstairs, replacing the newer one, via the H D M I cable and had no problems. So, I am guessing that the issues has something to do with the type of connection I am using with the digital cable upstairs. I've read on this list that others have used just a digital cable with no problems so not sure how to resolve this. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Richard The router is downstairs but I have a good wireless signal upstairs. 2 out of 3 bars. I can play ITunes music without any issues but when trying to stream video the apple TV will reboot, (well, at least voice over does, so I am assuming that the apple TV is as well). I went under settings/ITunes Store and set the video resolution down to standard but it didn't help. I am guessing that even though my IPhone says there is a good signal, it isn't good enough for streaming video. Apple TV Issue
I have a strange issue going on with my apple TV. I moved it upstairs to my bedroom and now when I go to play a netflix show it reboots after about five minutes or less of play. I tried resetting the network with no change and also unplugging it with the same result. Any ideas? You can count the images and create a pin but it does no good to get into the pulse app because everything in the app is totally inaccessible. They really did a great job in breaking VO. We have contacted them via phone but they have no idea what voice over even is. We were told they would pass the information onto the correct people but I don't hold much hope they will fix it. Another weird Issue with the update
Here is another weird issue I've had since updating to 8.0 and now 8.1. About 50% of the time when I make a FaceTime call via audio or video, the person on the other end cannot hear me. I have to reboot the phone and then FaceTime again and everything is fine until next time. I've even tried restoring the phone which was a pain but nothing changed. Anyone have suggestions? Weird Siri Issue
I'm having a weird issue with Siri ever since I upgraded to 8.0 and it is still present with 8.1. After using Siri a couple times and go to use her again, I will get an immediate double beep which gives me no chance to ask a question. I will then need to reboot and everything is fine for a couple more usages. This will happen every few times I use Siri then I have to reboot again to use her. Anyone else experienced this? I never had an issue with Siri until I upgraded. Help with Capti
When I updated to 8.0 and now 8.1 when trying to set a voice up in Capti I get thrown out of the app. This happens every time attempting to set a voice as a default. I'm thinking about purchasing the RiVO keyboard but have a couple of questions I hope someone can answer. First of all is there any issues with the RiVO and IOS 8? IOS 8 and Phone Calls
Is anyone having issues with hearing people when making or receiving calls on their IPhone 5S? Several times since upgrading to IOS 8 I made calls and the person on the other end could not hear me. When you are at the home screen and want to find an app, you can use the rotor to switch to handwriting and then write the first letter of the app and all apps with that letter will appear. You can then just tap on the app name to open it up. However, now since updating to IOS 8, when switching the rotor to handwriting and typing a letter, voice over will crash and then come back. I've tried this both on my IPhone 5s and my IPad mini with the same results. I'm wanting to give IOS 8 a try but my phone is currently jail broken. I would like to save my jail break settings and apps. Can someone who has gone through this tell me what is the best way to go about making a copy of my settings and app so I can restore it back later when IOS 8 has been jail broken? For People wanting to downgrade back to 7.1.2
For those who are having serious issues with the new 8.0 firmware, I found this information that may be helpful. I have not done this myself so have no idea if it works or not. Just passing it on. Downgrade from iOS 8 to iOS 7.1.2 If you had accidentally upgraded your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to iOS 8 or don't like it or are finding performance issues on older iOS devices and want to downgrade back to iOS 7.1.2, then the good news is that you can downgrade as Apple seems to be still signing the iOS 7.1.2 firmware file. Important points to note: . You will be able to downgrade back only to iOS 7.1.2 . It is important to take a backup of your iOS device to iCloud or using iTunes. . Please note that when you downgrade back to iOS 7.1.2, you will be able to restore back to iOS 7.x.x compatible backup and not the iOS 8 backup to avoid compatibility issues. . Apple doesn't recommend downgrading so please proceed at your own risk. Please follow these simple instructions to downgrade to iOS 7.1.2: . Download the appropriate iOS 7.1.2 firmware file for your device . Connect the device running iOS 8 to your computer. . Launch iTunes and select the iOS device from the top right corner, to the left of the iTunes Store button. . Hold the Alt/Option key in Mac or Shift Key in Windows on your keyboard and click on the Restore iPhone/iPad/iPod touch button in iTunes. Important please read: Alternatively, you can also click on the Check for Update option, instead of restoring. We were able to successfully downgrade from iOS 8 to iOS 7.1.2 using this step, but we are not sure what issue it can have on the data. So it is probably a good idea to use the Restore method, though it will be more time consuming. If you iTunes - Check for Update . If you've Find My iPhone enabled then it will prompt you to turn it off before restoring your iPhone/iPad or iPod touch. . Select the ipsw file you had downloaded earlier. . iTunes will inform that it will erase and restore your iOS device to iOS 7.1.2 and will verify the restore with Apple. . Click Restore. . iTunes should now restore your iOS device to iOS 7.1.2. . After a restore, the iOS device will restart. You should then see "Slide to set up". Follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant. . You can then restore your device from a backup if required. That's it. You should now be successfully downgraded to iOS 7.1.2. It may prompt you to activate your device. Please note that Apple can stop signing iOS 7.1.2 firmware files any moment so downgrade back to iOS 7.1.2 as soon as possible. IPad 2 Speaker Help
I have two IPad 2's which while on face time you can barely hear the other person through the speaker. I have check the volume and it is all the way up. I also tried turning the volume up while the other person was talking and it helped a little but the sound is still very low. You almost have to put your ear up to the iPad to hear. ?Any ideals where I should look next or is this the best I get in volume? Thanks for any help. First Impression of the Seeing Eye GPS
Today I purchased a one month subscription of the seeing eye gps so that I could compare it to blind square which I currently use. Before I begin let me give some idea of my surroundings. I live in a townhouse which is only about a five minute walk to a shopping strip. I currently just have to walk out my front door take a right down the sidewalk for about 50 steps, take a left staying on the sidewalk with a street on my right, go about 0.2 mile until I get to the entrance to the shopping strip, take a left, walk about 10 steps, get up on the sidewalk and I am at the beginning of the stores. Now, I fired up the seeing eye gps to take a walk to the food lion which is one of the stores in that strip. The seeing eye gps gave me very good directions until I reached the entrance to the shopping strip. I liked the fact it gives you detailed intersection info. However, when I turned left into the shopping strip the seeing eye app wanted me to continue straight until I reach the next major intersection. I tried doing a recalculate but it didn't make any difference. Even when I was right in front of the food lion it was still giving me directions to the next intersection. I think that the seeing eye gps is great when you are walking or driving down streets but when you get into areas like shopping centers blind square seems to be better in locating specific buildings. Anyone using the seeing eye gps have any tips on how to get better walking directions in situations like mine? I've been using shiprack for a while but here lately I am no longer receiving notifications when status changes. I've checked shiprack's settings and everything seems to be set correctly. Finger Print and App Store
Is there some secret to utilizing your finger print to purchase or update apps in the app store? I can use my finger print with no problem to unlock the phone but I have never been able to update or purchase apps. I have it set in settings to be able to do this but no go. Blind Square Help
I've recently moved into a new home in which there is a shopping center in close walking distance so trying to utilize blind square to help me identify what stores are in the shopping center. Right now I have blind square set to announce directions via degree but it seems to be giving directions backwards. It will announce that a store is to the right when it is really to the left. I've tried placing the phone in my pocket facing different directions but doesn't seem to make a difference. Can someone who has used blind square more give me some suggestions? Lastly, does blind square seem to notify you more accurately when a destination is set as a favorite or if you search for a place and then start tracking it, or does it make a difference? IPhone 5S disk Space Question
I didn't see any possible answers to my little problem so asking it again. When I install a new app I get a message stating that the disk is nearly full and that I can manage it in settings. However, when I go to About, I see that I still have over 7 Gig of disk space left. What could be causing this message and how do I fix it? How do you access the SiriusXM app? When I launch the app it asks for a user name and password. If I put one in I get no user found. There is no other buttons I can locate. Can someone who is using Amazon Instant Video on there IPhone 5s let me know how to get an episode to play? I've only seen one series that actually had a play button under each episode and they play fine, however most just have the episode listed but no play button under them.
