Re: Survey of users regarding native Mail app and no subject messages
Allan, I get a lot of messages like this from a friend of mine. So I would just check the name and see if you recognize the name before you going to see that they are spam. > On Jul 22, 2024, at 9:22 AM, Alan Lemly wrote: > > Hi List, > > I get an awfully lot of emails to my single email address but I’m noticing a > peculiarity when reading them this morning with the native Mail app on my > iPhone 13 Mini running iOS 17.5.1. Don't see this here with my iPhone 13 Pro. Are you sure these messages in fact do have subjects? The only time I hear this is when the message has nothing in the subject line. Hi listers, We had a bad storm Thursday night, and my phone became disconnected from iCloud, and consequently, my watch lost connection with the phone. I got the phone working again fine, but my Apple Watch is still unable to work properly. Apple Accessibility had me go to More Info and unpair the watch, but the Erase All Content and Settings control does not seem to be working with Voice Over on. It says, "All Content and media will be erase, but there is no button to press to either cancel or continue with this action. Swiping up or down results in that sort of bomp sound you get when you've gotten to a boundary of some kind. Without being able to do this, I am unable to pair my phone again to the watch. If anyone has a workaround, please let me know. apple Accessibility suggests sighted assistance. Thanks in advance for any help you can give. How to use AirPods with Apple TV By Charlie Sorrel, 1:00 pm, November 26, 2018 You kids don't know how good you have it. Are you a late-night movie watcher with sensitive neighbors? Do you hate watching your Apple TV with the volume set too low? Then you might love today's tip. Did you know that you can use your AirPods with your Apple TV? Sure you did. But did you also know that you don't need to dig around in your Apple TV's menus to hook them up? There's a Siri Remote shortcut that makes switching ultra-convenient. How to quick switch audio outputs on Apple TV Press and hold, and you're in. Here's the tip, by way of Wolfboyz on Reddit: Apple TV has a shortcut to switch audio output devices. Just press and hold the Play/Pause button on the Apple TV remote when viewing the Home Screen, and you'll see a panel listing all available AirPlay speakers. Even though AirPods use Bluetooth and not Wi-Fi, they still show up here thanks to the magic of Apple's integration. Use Siri Another way to quickly switch audio outputs is to use Siri. Invoke Siri and say "Audio settings." This will open up the Audio Output screen, and you can use the remote to quickly pick your output. This version only appears to open up your most-recently-used audio settings panel, so you may find yourself deep in the Settings app, instead of on the Audio Output panel. But if you recently switched speaker/headphone outputs, then this is almost as quick. AirPods and HomePod These tricks work thanks to the fact that AirPods are tied to your Apple ID, so if you're signed in on an iPhone, iPad, or Apple TV, they're already paired. And if you're using a HomePod, you can use this same trick to pop up the audio output settings, and choose the HomePod instead, just like you can from an iPhone or iPad. It's a shame that Apple doesn't make these great tricks and shortcuts more obvious. Then again, I guess it's my job to dig them up and pass them on. CNET How To - Tuesday, September 19, 2017 at 11:04 AM 8 new features in WatchOS 4 you need to know about - CNET Alongside iOS 11, Apple is releasing WatchOS 4 to Apple Watch owners. It's compatible with every watch currently available from Apple. There are a lot of new, beneficial features as well as some fun watch faces and a flashlight tool in WatchOS 4. Let's take a look. Now Playing: Watch this: Apple updates its WatchOS with new Siri face 11:39 Installing WatchOS 4 Before we can get to the new features you need to know about, you'll want to update your iPhone to iOS 11, then update your watch to WatchOS 4. In the Watch app on your iPhone, go to General > Software Update and then follow the prompts. Make sure you have a Wi-Fi connection and your Apple Watch's charging cable with you. Ditch the app grid Screenshots by Jason Cipriani/CNET Instead of using a grid of app icons, to launch apps on your watch, there's a new list view. Switch to the list view with a hard-press on your watch's app screen, then select List View. The list is alphabetical, with no way to rearrange it. To switch back to the grid view, repeat the same process. Switch up the Dock Screenshots by Jason Cipriani/CNET Press the bottom button to open the new app dock. Instead of scrolling from left to right, starting with WatchOS 4 app previews are stacked vertically. Use the Digital Crown to scroll through the list, and tap on an app to open it. By default, the dock shows your most recently used apps. However, in the Watch app on your iPhone, you can change it to show your favorite apps first, followed by recents. Open the Watch app, select Dock > Favorites. A list of apps then will display below, where you can then set your favorite apps in your preferred order. New watch faces Screenshots by Jason Cipriani/CNET There are a few new watch faces in WatchOS 4, ranging from a psychedelic kaleidoscope to "Toy Story" characters to Siri's own dedicated face. Using the Siri watch face you'll find a list of cards, each one displaying information about your day, be it the weather forecast, news updates, photos from a recent trip or your calendar and reminders. Auto-pause running workouts Screenshot by Jason Cipriani/CNET With a quick flip of a switch, your Apple Watch will begin to auto-pause when it detects you're no longer moving when in a running workout. Open the Watch app on your iPhone then go to Workout and enable Running Auto Pause. A lot more activity alerts Screenshot by Jason Cipriani/CNET Be prepared for your watch to constantly encourage and nag you to be more active. If you fall behind a previous day's activity, your watch will let you know and suggest getting up to go for walk. Likewise, if it's near the end of the day and you still need to close a ring, your watch will suggest the exact amount of time you need to walk or run to achieve it. If it gets to be too much, you can turn off alert types in the Watch app in the Activity option. Screenshot by Jason Cipriani/CNET Apple recently announced Apple Watch users will gain the ability to stream Apple Music through the watch after a future update, but there are new features available with WatchOS 4. Primarily, indicating which music you want to sync to your watch is now a lot easier. Open the Watch app and select the Music option. Apple Music subscribers will have the option to automatically have your customized playlists synced to your watch as they are updated. You can also set your personal playlists or artists to sync to the watch as you charge it each night. Heart rate alerts Screenshots by Jason Cipriani/CNET Apple really wants you to know how healthy your heart is. With WatchOS 4, the heart rate app on your watch is revamped, and there's a new option to be alerted if you have a high heart rate when resting. In the Watch app on your iPhone open the Heart Rate app then set your Elevated Heart Rate notification threshold. Flashlight Screenshot by Jason Cipriani/CNET Sure, our iPhones have a super bright flash that doubles as a flashlight in a pinch, but the display on the Apple Watch can also step in when it has to. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to view the quick toggles and you'll find a new flashlight icon. Tap it to enable flashlight mode, which includes a bright white setting, an alternating option and a bright red screen. It's not the best, but it works! Blindfold Flappy Blindfold Flappy is an fully accessible audio game, inspired by the mobile game Flappy Bird. The objective is to move your bird so it's flies through the holes in the pipes. Your bird is at the left side of the screen, and falls from the top of the screen to the bottom; your bird pops up a little each time you tap the screen. Constantly moving towards your bird are pipes that run from the top of the screen to the bottom of the screen; each pipe has a gap, or a hole, in it. Your task is to move your bird so that when the pipe is about to hit your bird, your bird is lined up with the hole, and passes through it. This game can be played with or without headphones or earbuds, but when you are starting out, earbuds will make it easier. Once you get the hang of it, you can just listen to the sounds. In your left ear, you hear a tone that indicates where your bird is. As the bird drops, the tone drops in pitch. Each time you tap the screen, the tone increases in pitch. In your right ear, you hear a tone that indicates where the mid-point of the hole in the pipe is. As the pipe gets closer and closer to you, the sound gets louder. To ensure your bird will make it through the hole, you want the tones in both your ears to be as close in pitch as possible. Blindfold Flappy was suggested by several blind gamers who enjoyed Blindfold Hopper and Blindfold Invaders. The game comes with coins; you need one coin to play. More coins are available as an in-app upgrade.Blindfold Flappy Ming tel: 6421 9950 msn/window live messenger chung_chiming_2...@hotmail.com skype: chungchiming9950 face book: http://www.facebook.com/mingcm1 -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. CNET News - Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 10:13 AM No more random calls: Uber adds in-app chat feature - CNET Uber Random calls and texts from unknown numbers that may or may not be the Uber you're waiting for could be a thing of the past with the announcement of Uber's new in-app chat feature. The chat function is primarily designed to send the driver instructions about conditions and the pickup location, for example. For safety reasons, the chats are read aloud to the driver who can respond with a simple "thumbs up." The chat function is available from within the Uber app's feed (Contact > Chat), and both rider and driver will receive confirmation when their chats are sent and read. As a result, riders and drivers no longer need to share their phone numbers in order to get in touch. Uber says "in-app chat is rolling out globally to both riders and drivers over the coming weeks." A representative for Uber told CNET that several countries already had anonymization technology. "That means when you would SMS or call your driver outside the app (and vice versa), you would be using a random number. This was not available everywhere, which is why this feature is helpful since it standardizes the experience," she said. Uber, meanwhile, remains without a CEO. Co-founder and former CEO Travis Kalanick won't be retaking his chief executive crown, The Wall Street Journal reported earlier this week. I have noticed that If you have Do Not Disturb on manually or from a schedule and someone sends you a text or iMessage, if that person has not been given the DND bypass privilidge, you do not get their message. However, if you enable the bypass in their contact's edit screen, you will get the message. Wayne Merritt On 3/22/17, Cher Bosch wrote: > That certainly does- thanks! Greetings. I use Do Not Disturb regularly. If you want to change settings for it go to Do Not Disturb in the iOS Settings. You can switch on or off several controls, including allowing calls from favorites, allowing repeated calls made within a few minutes, and so forth. You can set it up to be on a certain schedule, like if you want Do Not Disturb active from 10p to 7a every night. Unfortunately, you cannot set a different schedule for weekends and for weekdays. To control whether individual contacts can bypass the DND setting, you need to go to the contacts on your device, choose the contact, and then hit edit. There will be a button that appears near the top of the screen labeled something like, "Bypass Do Not Disturb." When turned on, it will do exactly that. Hello, Does anyone know why push notifications don't work for Facebook on my iPhone 6? On the iPhone's settings app, I turned on notifications / Facebook. In the Facebook app, I went to settings / account settings / notifications / handy (that's the word for mobile phone in German) and enabled everything. I got the notification that no notifications were turned off. I also went to settings / account settings / notifications and turned on everything: birthdays, pokes, friend requests. I also checked on the Facebook website that everything is turned on. Re-booting the phone as well as re-installing the app didn't help either. Facebook notifications used to work just fine about a year ago but suddenly stopped working without any changes. My iPhone's not jailbroken, and I'm using the latest version of the Facebook app. Push notifications for other apps work perfectly well. Same is true for Facebook notifications by email. Any help is appreciated! Thanks, Alexandra Facebook: No push notifications -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. Hello List, Today, I upgraded to Fleksy Keyboard 5.7.1 which was released on 6/17/15. Since I had asked a question on this list about others' experience with the latest version of Fleksy when also running Fleksy VO on their devices, I thought I'd share my experience. I was very excited when first testing the upgraded Fleksy. After a short time getting used to differences between the Fleksy Keyboard and Fleksy VO swipes, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the app worked well with VoiceOver. The only thing I had a small bother with was that each key typed with the Fleksy keyboard engaged was announced. In Fleksy VO, this could be turned off I believe but I could not figure out how to do that with Fleksy Keyboard. The other difficulty I had was jumping back to the standard iOS keyboard but when I found you could shift from an abbreviated Fleksy keyboard to one showing the spacebar and the alternative keyboard button by doing a two-finger swipe up on the Fleksy keyboard, this issue was resolved. I was really excited when I fired up Fleksy VO and it still seemed to function as it always has for me the last several months. This was not my experience with an earlier version of Fleksy Keyboard. I took pains to type with Fleksy Keyboard in my messages, email, and notes apps and everything seemed to be working just fine. I powered off my iPhone 6 running iOS 8.3 to make sure this had no effect on the Fleksy apps. I also did a hard reset with the home and power buttons. I wanted to make sure that the upgraded app was functioning correctly before making an iTunes backup of my phone post installation. However, at some point, things went awry. I was not able to identify the event that caused things to go south but I started noticing it after resetting my phone. Trying to do a two-finger swipe up on the Fleksy keyboard to switch between its condensed keyboard without the spacebar and the one with it stopped working. In fact, trying to type anything with Fleksy Keyboard stopped working and I would hear the word "keypad" announced when attempting to type with the keyboard. Removing and reloading the Fleksy keyboard in Settings, General, Keyboards had no effect in correcting the problem. Then, I tried using the Fleksy VO app and it was totally messed up too. This is what I've experienced with past upgrades of the Fleksy Keyboard app but at least the problems took longer to appear. I ended up restoring my iTunes encrypted backup I had made before testing the Fleksy Keyboard upgrade in order to return to a functioning Fleksy VO app upon which I depend mightily for iPhone input. I guess I'll be hopeful that they'll eventually get Fleksy Keyboard to function well for VoiceOver users but I'm more than a little discouraged and a lot pessimistic. I got this from another list. Does anyone know if this app is accessible for the blind? Just a quick note - the notetaking and recording app, Notability, is the iTunes App of the Week and is free for the next several days. This is a great app for notetaking on an iPad, iPhone, or other iToy that you may have. One attractive feature is that you can import a PDF of the lecture slides and then take notes directly on those slides using this app. It can also record audio and that is synchronized with the notes you create. Hello friends, I have set up my IPhone to use my ~Gmail account and this works fine. As i have not used the Gmail account for a very long time, there are a huge amount of messages built up that I don't really want. I can go to the inbox and move up and down the messages etc but I can't seem to find a way to delete them all, can anyone advise me please? In the inbox list of messages, there seem to be some buttons at the bottom of the screen e.g. mark all etc but I can't seem to find a delete button. I seem to be able to open an email then click edit and delete? Many thanks in anticipation for any help,, it would be really good to get my phone and Gmail sorted. problem with contacts, apps, and apple accounts.Hi all. Well, I did that I read here, about how add a new apple account in a device that has been registered with another account. But now i hav the following situation. 1. I need to transfer an app that I will not use no more in my iPhone 5s, to my old iphone 4. Remember that both iPhones should work with different apple accounts. 2.If I change the apple account for an device, what will happen with the contacts, and personal information that I would like that my friend keep with her? I mean, the easyer way to see it, is how can I change my apple account, keeping the same devices? or how can add a new apple account to me, is possible to take 2 apple account? Hi, all. I have two messages in my in box that I cannot delete. This is a thread of two messages sent yesterday from this list, actually, and while I can open and read them, I can't delete them, either by swiping on the message from within the in box or using the delete button from within the message body. I've tried opening and closing mail, and this isn't helping, either. I'm using POP 3, so I get copies of messages sent to this machine and my iPhone. The messages were able to be deleted from this machine with no problems. Ideas? Chocolate is the answer... who cares what the question is! Hi, I have started the "Math Melodies" project aimed at developing an iPad app to support math learning for visually impaired children. As a blind person I experienced the challenges of practicing math since primary school. Math Meledies is a math workbook that integrates existing solutions and allows interactive and enjoyable learning. We tested a prototype version of Math Melodies and our testers were enthusiast about it. We are now funding this project through donations, collected on the crowdfunding website Indiegogo.com. Our project requires 15.000 euro that we need to collect before the 6th of July. Please check our project webpage for more details and to make a donation. http://goo.gl/Pnqsj Even if you cannot directly support us, you can still help by spreading the word about this project. Hi gamers Looking for a fun and addictive game to play with my 11-year-old niece. I'm in my early 40's. She can see and I can't. We're looking for something that is multiplayer, or that we can take turns in or solve together. We like word games, music, problem-solving (only good at the easy ones). We like adventure games - more realism than fantasy. We are into frotz, but are stuck in Child's Play. Any advice appreciated. Thanks. It's odd that more and more people's accounts on this list are getting hacked into. Thankfully it hasn't happened to me yet, probably because I use my email account for my Skype and Facebook and I'm always signed into them. To those that I may have offended in my previous post, I'm sorry. What I meant to say is that it's funny that these hackers have nothing else to do besides hacking into people's accounts and generating these spam messages. I wonder if the reason why it's not happening to me is because I'm on a Mac. -- Shawn Sent from my white MacBook using SamNet -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the "VIPhone" Google Group. iPhone Randomly Muting, was Re: [No Subject]
Hi Nuris. In future, can you give us a subject line? Not everybody reads messages marked as no subject. Now that that's out of the way, I did experience my VO on my iPhone mute itself quite a lot when I removed it from the dock of my stereo when I used iOS5, but thankfully in iOS6 I don't get such occurrances anymore. Are you using iOS5 or iOS6? What kind of iPhone is it? All these details can help us troubleshoot your issues. Re: Excuse previous no subject post...Auto completing in mail? app
You will be glad to know that mail automatically connects with your contact list. Just type the first few letters of the person's name, then right flick past the contacts button and all the names that start with those letters are displayed. Double-tap on the name you wish to use and its email address will be added. The field edit box you are using will be cleared so you can type another name, or partial name, to add to the list. Excuse previous no subject post...Auto completing in mail? app
Not off to a good start sending an email with no subject. Please excuse my mistake. Here is the message again: First let me say that I have had my iPhone 5 less than two weeks and I have spent most of my time getting up to speed with it. I have listened to hours of podcasts, searched archives and the web for tips and made extensive files of hints. And lots of trial and error. But there are some questions that I just can’t seem to answer on my own so thanks in advance for help from the group. Mail question- Is there a setting I can use so that when composing or forwarding mail the addresses will auto complete or allow me to use the nicknames in my contacts? Going to the contacts folder and opening the contact to choose an address is tedious in the extreme. Especially when my contact list is long and even using the table index at the right it makes me swipe starting at letter A every time. I tried using the typing shortcuts so that a couple letters would expand to an email address. I heard the noise and it read the email address out when I typed the shortcut but the letters in the edit box remained the two letters for the shortcut. So I must be doing something wrong. I, like allot of others on this list am excitingly waiting for the new IPhone to be released and I'm not sure if anyone will know but I am trying to find out if ATNT will be offering pre-orders? I am eligible for an upgrade and would like to get my foot in the door. I already called ATNT customer service but the person I talked to couldn't tell me anything. Thanks for any heads up.
