Any trouble moving apps?

2019-04-05 Thread Tom Rash
For some reason I cannot move apps. I swipe up to edit mode then swipe up
to drag said item, move to where I want to drop it. I get a choice to add
to a certain folder and when I double tap that, it says drag canceled.

Re: Any trouble moving apps?

2019-04-05 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Tom,
By any chance, is the folder into which you were trying to move an app located
in your dock? If so, I believe that is the problem. I have never been able to
move an app into a folder, so long as that folder was in the dock. so I have to
move it out, move the app into it, and then move it back. I have reported this
to Apple.

I get that sometimes, but I realize that I had the phone at a slight angle and
didn't get a solid double tap, or I had too many things open, or I hadn't done
something else; or it is just inconsistent.

I have never opened a folder before putting an app into it. I always get a
choice of dropping the item before the folder, after the folder, or adding the
item to the folder. which is what I select. But if it’s the folder in the dock
then of course it doesn’t work.

RE: Any trouble moving apps?

2019-04-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
What you describe works just fine and that is usually how I add apps to a
folder, however, if you wanted to move the app into a folder with other apps
and drop it in a certain place say before or after another app in the folder
then you can open the folder first, find the app where you want the new app to
go and then swipe down and select to drop before or after said app. You can of
course simply add the app to a folder and I f you want it in a certain place
inside the folder open the folder afterwards, start editing again, select to
drag the app and drop it where you want. Opening the folder first and putting
it exactly where you want saves you that extra step.

I have never opened a folder before putting an app into it. I always get a
choice of dropping the item before the folder, after the folder, or adding the
item to the folder. which is what I select. But if it’s the folder in the dock
then of course it doesn’t work.

Well, I’m clearly missing something obvious, which is how to start edit mode
once you have a folder open. If you open the folder, then that folder has the
focus, I should say the apps in the folder can be focused. So how do you get
out of the folder back to the app you want to move? Or if you start the edit
process before trying to open the folder, and you go to double tap on the
folder, then that’s not going to open the folder. So clearly I’m missing
something here.

RE: Any trouble moving apps?

2019-04-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I can double tap on a folder and it opens when I’m already in editing mode and
have selected an app to drag.
Here is what I do, let’s assume I want to drag the Facebook app into a folder
called Social Media:
1. I find the Facebook app on my home page, flick down with one finger so
Voiceover says “Edit Mode” and then I double tap, Voiceover says “started
editing”.
2. I flick down to where Voiceover says “Drag Facebook” and then I double tap,
I hear a little tone.
3. I now go to my second home page where I have a folder called Social media,
once I put focus on it Voiceover says “Social media folder, is editing, 3 items”
4. I double tap and hear the sound Voiceover makes when the folder opens and
Voiceover says “Folder name, Social Media, text field”
5. I can now flick right to whatever app I want, let’s say WhatsApp is my first
app and I want to drop Facebook after WhatsApp, then I flick to WhatsApp and
now I can flick down until I hear “Drop Facebook after WhatsApp”, then I double
tap and Facebook gets dropped into the Social Media folder after WhatsApp.

Thanks. I did try that. No luck. My son was able to do it for me by turning
voice over off. Never had this problem before. I’ll play with it some more.

For some reason I cannot move apps. I swipe up to edit mode then swipe up to
drag said item, move to where I want to drop it. I get a choice to add to a
certain folder and when I double tap that, it says drag canceled.

I never had to do that before, but will give that a try. If you’re on a folder
that you want to add to while in edit mode, it does ask if you want to drop
said file into said folder.

I had that happen the other day. Then I remembered that I hadn't opened the

Hi Tom,
By any chance, is the folder into which you were trying to move an app located
in your dock? If so, I believe that is the problem. I have never been able to
move an app into a folder, so long as that folder was in the dock. so I have to
move it out, move the app into it, and then move it back. I have reported this
to Apple.

I used to be able to do this with no troubles. I tried moving more apps today
but can’t do it. The process looks pretty normal until I drop the app in
question, then it says, “Cancel drop.” Apparently it works with voice over

I encountered this the other day when I was trying to move an app into an
existing folder. I just spent 10 minutes trying to get it to malfunction again,
but it is working as it should today. It was as if the selector was one
position below what VoiceOver was reading, putting onto cancel drag. Try
swiping up one more time, then down to drop, and see if that works. If not,
leave it on whatever the one above drop is, and see if it drops it. I think
that is what I had to do. I have no idea why it malfunctioned then, why it
works as it should now, and can just hope it keeps working correctly.

once you have a folder open.

I am also having trouble with this. sometimes it works, and sometimes not.
I’ve been trying to move apps into a folder.

I double tap and hold on the app, then slide my finger until I hear the folder
name. I hold my finger on the folder, and it doesn’t open as it used to.

If you still do the double tap and hold followed by dragging the app you are
doing it the hard way. I assume you are at least on iOS 9 or 10, not actually
sure any more when the easy was introduced, but all you have to do when you are
on an app you want to move is to swipe down or up with one finger where
Voiceover says “Editing Mode”, then double tap, Voiceover says “started
editing”. This basically replaces the double tap and hold.
Next swipe down twice to “drag” followed by the name of the app you want to
move and double tap.
Now go to where you want to put the app whether it’s in a different position on
the home screen, a different home screen or a folder. Put focus on the folder
or another app and swipe down again, you now have the following options:

Drop AppName before AppName (or FolderName) (the first AppName is the app you
are dragging, the second is the app or folder you are on.
Swipe down again and you have Drop AppName after whatever app or folder you are
on
Swipe down again and if you put focus on a folder you hear “Drop AppName in

Whichever option you want to do, drop before, drop after or drop in a folder,
just double tap when you get there and that’s it.

I just have to add my two cents here; I wasn’t even aware of the enhanced app
management feature until a couple of weeks ago. I had been having fits trying
to arrange apps on my iPad Mini II to reflect a similar layout to my iPhone.
This enhanced app management feature is just a piece of cake.

I never cease to wonder at the ingenuity of the Apple software engineers and
how iOS works so well with accessibility features.

And before anybody opts to make a snide comment about me “drinking the Apple
