RE: Changes to Goodreads App
If you go into your profile on goodreads and the select the emails option, at the bottom of that setting is a section entitled newsletters and other mail which has an option to check which is "send me emails about new features on goodreads". I am hoping this is one way to find out about changes that are planned or have already been implemented on the goodreads site. I am sure that many of you have noticed that the goodreads site is much more user friendly on a PC than with its app. Michelle -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. I also dislike the changes the Goodreads team has made to the currently reading shelf and in fact, I now only use the site to rate books that I have already finished reading. The currently reading option seems designed for maximum visual impact which is no longer of value to me. I also wrote to them about this change and I would urge anyone who uses the sort and has difficulties with any of its options to email them. They do respond to emails and forward concerns, but I too dislike this recent change. Michellr -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. RE: Changes to Goodreads App
Kathy Can I assume that you are talking about the update that was just released in the last day? It's too bad. I might have a phone in my hand as early as tomorrow morning and a Goodreads would certainly be one of the apps I would have wanted to access. I'm not big on anything that is going to require more steps than necessary, especially since you say it worked great before. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Kathy Metters Sent: Monday, November 17, 2014 5:20 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Changes to Goodreads App Hey Kathy Don't you think that it would have just been easier to leave things as they were? Re: Changes to Goodreads App
For some reason I find it complex to use goodreads on my pc. Havent checked the ap out in a while. I wonder if its just on IOS 8 that the changes took effect, or if its the same with IOS 7 and if voice over now will not read the screen properly? Shirley From: Michelle Bernstein Sent: Thursday, September 25, 2014 3:03 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Changes to Goodreads App I was not pleased to go to the Goodreads app yesterday and discover that this company automatically updated my app. One of the updates they made is quite a nuisance to my eyes. They changed the Currently Reading section of My Books from text to a visual image of the book cover with a progress bar. I was unable to figure out how to delete these currently reading titles from the app so I went to my pc and deleted both my currently reading titles and my to be read titles. Interestingly, the currently reading titles still remain on my app while they have been elimatinated on my pc. The to be read titles were eliminated in both the app and on the pc. The section called "read" consisting of books that I have completed appears to be unchanged. I did email the support team at goodreads and requested that they not automatically update all the apps and that they offer an opt out. I explained the effects of this automatic update to persons like myself with limited vision and expressed disappointment that they did not appear to be aware or interested in this segment of the reading population. RE: Changes to Goodreads App
Michelle, in the iOS world, the only way to return to an earlier version of an app once it's been updated is if you made a backup copy of the older version of the app on your computer and then use iTunes to reinstall it. Someone correct me if this is not accurate. RE: Changes to Goodreads App
Hi Michelle, Developers have no say regarding automatic app updates, this is a setting you alone control. Apple started providing the ability to automatically update apps in iOS 7 and all you have to do if you prefer to update manually is to go to Settings, iTunes and App Store and underneath the “Automatic Downloads” heading turn off updates. You also can turn off automatic downloads for music, apps and books and once again it is your decision. If you have more than one iDevice or a Mac and an iPhone, music you purchase on one device is automatically downloaded to your other device if you leave automatic downloads for music on. The same applies to apps and books.
