Re: Curious if iPhones are totally useless if you are not on Wifi
In my experience, I have Cox Cable with cable modem and LTE on my 5s from AT&T. I get about the same speeds on both. LTE I believe is their 4g version. Never the less, I can download 4 hundred messages in 1 or 2 minutes give or take. I remember the days of dialup so this is blazing fast! that's very strange! I'm on AT&T and get good fast downloads when not on WIFI. I get LTE though, which you might get where you live. also, yes, you can make face time calls and not be on Wifi. - Original Message - From: "Brian Fischler" To: Sent: Friday, October 24, 2014 2:09 PM Subject: Curious if iPhones are totally useless if you are not on Wifi Hey all, I am curious are iPhones pretty much useless unless you are on wifi? RE: Curious if iPhones are totally useless if you are not on Wifi
Hi Brian, I live in a small town in northern British Columbia, Canada, and we don't have LTE yet, only 3G. I can, however, easily make Facetime and Skype calls over 3G and sometimes it's actually way faster to download Audible books via 3G than it is via my WiFi although I think there is another issue at work here since I have a relatively fast internet connection at home, 25 Mb down and 5 up. I have noticed however that when I am in Vancouver or other places where there is LTE that it is way faster than what most people have at home as far as internet goes. In Vancouver last time I did a speedtest and had 42 Mb down and 23 Mb up, that's awesomely fast especially for the upload speed. I would recommend you get the Speedtest app from OOKLA, that is the same as the www.speedtest.net website, and check what sort of speed you are getting when you are on LTE. I would, however, say that if your phone shows you have LTE coverage that there is something wrong since it should easily handle Facetime. Incidently I have often done just what you described, called my Mom or another friend when I dropped something and couldn't find it any more. Now, as for SIRI not knowing who your Mom was, I would go to Settings, General and SIRI and check that your contact is selected there because otherwise SIRI doesn't know who you are and hence doesn't know who any of your relationships are. I have very few issues with SIRI here in Canada except that occasionally an answer gets cut off. Whenever I went to the States (once or twice a year) I always found SIRI doesn't work as good there, maybe it's because there are so many more people in the States than in Canada and it's a server capacity issue. Re: Curious if iPhones are totally useless if you are not on Wifi
When I used the iPhone 5 on AT&T, there were times when LTE crawled and was very slow. At those times, when I noticed it, I went into settings and turned LTE off. It seemed like I got faster speed when I was on 4G. I haven't noticed any slow LTE signals on my iPhone 6, but I also haven't been on LTE too much with wifi at both home and work.
