Playing Dropbox Files

2020-01-31 Thread Duane Steele
Hello again, iPhone listers,

First, let me say thanks for the info from Sighard about playing dropbox files
in the Files APP. That works as an alternative for trying to play files in
Dropbox itself. A second option is to download any dropbox files you want into
Voice Dream Reader. Both of these solve the issue of playing Dropbox files.
However, this doesn't excuse the APP developers for making files difficult to
open in the APP as they have always done until most recent updates. I have
contacted Dropbox support for advice on how they will solve this issue, and
will share what I learn. They're notorious for taking their time in actually
addressing issues. But they have given me a ticket number. So I'll keep on
this. Meantime, I trust the alternatives suggested by Sighard and myself will
work.

Peace & Blessings,
Pastor Duane L. Steele

Reading dropbox files revisited.

2015-12-05 Thread Jenifer Barr
Hi all.

I completely missed this thread and I've emptied my deleted items
folder. What is the best way to read... let's say a txt file in your
dropbox? I'm looking for a certain entry in a file, going by word or
line doesn't seem to work. What do you all do to find a specific item
in a file?
thanks
Jen

Re: Reading dropbox files revisited.

2015-12-05 Thread Alex Stone
Jen, this is tricky, you need to find an app which can read files from
dropbox. Personally I'd use voicedream reader, but I wouldn't buy it
specifically to do this. There must be other apps that do the same though.

Can VDW do in-place editing in Dropbox files?

2015-01-24 Thread Alex Hall
Hi all,
I'm pondering VDW's usefulness in my day to day workflow, and here's a very
important question. I know it can handle importing to, and exporting from,
Dropbox, but can it edit in place? That is, can it open a file in Dropbox (a
text file - I know it can't directly open other formats), then save my changes
back to that file? Or, do you need to import the file, make the changes, the
export it, find the folder it came from, save it, and be sure to override the
original with the updated one? The latter is more of a pain to do, and would
make this app less useful. If it can do the former, that would be great. Thanks
for any input.

From within the Access note app, it only sees files in one dropbox
folder, and that can be found in Apps / AFB_Note.

If the file is not in that folder, then you can go into the dropbox
app, maneuver to the file you want to see, double tap on the file, then
use the share button to open in access note.

 Hope this helps.

  Hello Richard,

Do not worry about it. You were just honestly trying to help out. We all
make mistakes.
It is true, Access Note is now free in the app store, but ever since ios 8,
all of the reports are that it is no longer accessible. I do not know if this
is a ios bug, or a bug with Access Note. Since there has not been any updates
since November 2013, my fear is that once Access Note went free, that meant
that AFB will no longer be updating the app. Therefore, if it is a bug in
Access Note, then it will never be fixed. I do not know if I will get a
response, but I do plan on writing Access Note support to let them know of the
problems, plus to see if they plan on updating the app to work with ios 8.

I have been looking and trying out different apps to replace Access Note, now
one that does let you access any folder in your dropbox is Nebulous. Now there
is a small cost for this app, but it does have all of the same features as
Access Note plus a few more, plus, it is totally accessible with voiceover.
For a free choice that is voiceover accessible is Plain Text. Now when you
first set up dropbox to sync with this app, it will ask you if you want it to
access all folders or just its own folder. There is an in app purchase to get
rid of ads and support the developers, but the ads are not in the way at all,
so it is a personal preference.
Since I am still checking out both of these apps, I do not know everything
about them yet, but I know there are other list members that use both of these
apps. And of coarse, you can find both of them in the app store.

 Hello Richard,

Do not worry about it. You were just honestly trying to help out. We all
 make mistakes.
It is true, Access Note is now free in the app store, but ever since ios 8,
all of the reports are that it is no longer accessible. I do not know if
this is a ios bug, or a bug with Access Note. Since there has not been any
updates since November 2013, my fear is that once Access Note went free, that
meant that AFB will no longer be updating the app. Therefore, if it is a bug
in Access Note, then it will never be fixed. I do not know if I will get a
response, but I do plan on writing Access Note support to let them know of
the problems, plus to see if they plan on updating the app to work with ios 8.

I have been looking and trying out different apps to replace Access Note, now
one that does let you access any folder in your dropbox is Nebulous. Now
there is a small costfor this app, but it does have all of the same
features as Access Note plus a few more, plus, it is totally accessible with
 voiceover.
For a free choice that is voiceover accessible is Plain Text. Now when you
first set up dropbox to sync with this app, it will ask you if you want it to
access all folders or just its own folder. There is an in app purchase to
get rid of ads and support the developers, but the ads are not in the way at
all, so it is a personal preference.
Since I am still checking out both of these apps, I do not know everything
about them yet, but I know there are other list members that use both of
these apps. And of coarse, you can find both of them in the app store.

Access Note automatically list the files that are in the access note dropbox
folder. Of coarse, in order for Access Note to access your dropbox, be sure to
go into the settings of Access Note and sign in.
Now, Access Note does not automatically update the files in dropbox, in order

as you do this, any changes you make will be done in dropbox.

I hope this helps,

From within the Access note app, it only sees files in one dropbox folder, and
that can be found in Apps / AFB_Note.

If the file is not in that folder, then you can go into the dropbox app,
maneuver to the file you want to see, double tap on the file, then use the
share button to open in access note.

Hope this helps.

Actually, AccessNote can navigate to any DropBox folder.
When you double tap on add, then select dropbox, if you are inside the

RE: Reading Dropbox Files with AccessNote

2014-10-23 Thread Rose Combs
I can promise I may have dropbox questions, I finally installed it on my phone
and home computer today, if I can get my computer to play right, having trouble
finding a document I know is here and move it just for the heck of it. Might
be good to have on the phone since it is a complete set of cookbooks I paid
for, only wish they had come in braille but they didn’t

Oops, can I read Word documents on an iPhone if I did not purchase the office
product. I don’t do a ton of typing on the iPhone, use the computer keyboard
as much as possible as I work on one all day long.

Re: Reading Dropbox Files with AccessNote

2014-10-23 Thread Chris Chaffin
I am not sure why, but when I double tap on add, all I have is an actions
button, the review on / off button, and the edit field to type in. There is no
mention of dropbox anywhere.
I also went in settings to check them out, and there is just 2 dropbox
settings, a sync on / off button, and your login / logoff button. I do have
the dropbox sync button on.
Maybe I am missing something, but I am not able to find where I can change
dropbox folders.

Any help would be appreciated.

From the main Accessnote screen, double tap on the add button.
Then, double tap on DropBox.
If you are in the accessnote folder, find the back button in the upper left
corner and double tap on it.
Then, there should be a dropbox back button in the upper left.
Double tap on it and you should have a list of all your dropbox folders.
I just did this twice to make sure.

Re: Reading Dropbox Files with AccessNote

2014-10-23 Thread Richard Turner
That is very strange.
I'm using Accessnote Version: 1.2.

Under the Accessnote settings the Dropbox sync is on.
Do you have a sync button on the main screen? Did you double tap on that?
I can't think of anything else that would explain this.
I don't recall any thing different in setting it up.
If nothing else works, maybe deleting the app and reinstalling it would help.
Sorry I don't have any better ideas.

From within the Access note app, it only sees files in one dropbox
folder, and that can be found in Apps / AFB_Note.

If the file is not in that folder, then you can go into the dropbox app,
maneuver to the file you want to see, double tap on the file, then use
the share button to open in access note.

 Hope this helps.

Re: Reading Dropbox Files with AccessNote

2014-10-23 Thread Chris Chaffin
Hello Richard,

Ok, still no dropbox button.
I uninstalled the app, moved all of my files to another folder in dropbox,
restarted my phone, then reinstalled the app.
Of coarse, I had to log back in to dropbox, and give access note permission to
access dropbox, and in the process it specifically asked me if it could access
the access note folder in apps. There was nothing to tap on to change it to
anywhere else in dropbox. And I assume that you already know, but I am running
version 1.2 just like you are.
Like you, I am totally stumped!!
Now I have seen other apps that let you select where you want to save a file in
dropbox, but never in access note.
I am not sure what you are running it on, but I am running it on an iPhone 5
with ios 7.1.2.
I hope it starts to work better with ios 8, since there has been previous
reports that there were problems. I use access note on a daily basis, but just
in case, I am checking out a couple of other apps.

Thanks for your help!!

Chris

RE: Dropbox files

2012-09-09 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Is it possible to save a folder full of files as favorites, or does one need to
save each file separately? Thanks.

Hi,

no. You will still have internet access via your cellular network. You would
still be able to view or play all files you placed into dropbox. What Grant is
saying is, if you want something to be stored exclusively on your phone, in the
case you have no internet access at all, you need to save those specific files
to favorites. Once in favorites, its saved to the drive on your phone.

Neil is absolutely correct, Dropbox is a syncing tool and usually
files reside on all of your machines unless you explicitly specify
otherwise. But on an iDevice it's the other way around. You have to
explicitly specify that you want an individual file to be available
offline. You do that by opening the file in question and pressing the
'Add to Favorites' button. There's no download progress' available,
but it should happen pretty quickly. The 'Remove from Favorites'
button deletes the local copy of the file from your device again.

To browse files offline, you can either select the Favorites tab in
the Dropbox app along the bottom of the screen towards the middle, or
you can browse the tree of viles as you normally would. If you try to
open any files whose content is not stored on your device, you'll
simply be told that the file is not available.

There is a solution though, you can within the iOS Drop Box App mark files

I guess they do this as some folk have a lot of data in their DB, I have,

Re: Dropbox files

Hi Keith,

If you're using a text editing app with Dropbox support to make your
changes, then your results will automatically be saved locally and
updated with sync when you connect again. There are many such apps,
but one of the distinctions is whether you can edit any folder/file
under Dropbox or only files in the folder named for the app. Some
editors like Notesy and Nebulous Notes will let you edit any file in
your Dropbox.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther
