Hi Dave,

I am Audrey in NYC.

I have an IPhone 6 also.

Are you a braille reader, and did you try to use a braille display with IOS
12 and your IPhone 6? If so, is everything working okay?

Thanks; have a great day.

I have an iPhone 6, and an iPhone 6s, plus my new iPhone 8.

I thought i would try the new Ios 12 update today, on my iPhone 6 first,
before updating my later phones.

I have to say, that the update is absolutely fine, and the iPhone 6, still
gives me the time, when i press the home button.

whether this will be the same, when i decide to update my later phones,
remains to be seen.

Mike, that was nice about being able to tap the home button for the time,
but with this alternative way of doing it with tapping the power button is
good too. Yup, apple just messed up our $400 to $1000 clocks,
hahahahahaha,

but I'm glad you found doing it with the power button. While it's a very
minor thing, it's something we got so use to doing when checking on the
time. As they say little things mean a lot. Thanks for letting us know.

2018-09-23 Thread janet gross
Hi Dave,
So you finally took the plunge! I'm happy to hear the new update iOS 12 is
working out for you. Since I've updated to iOS 12, I can't use the home button
to check the time quickly in which that was handy, but I'm sure I will get use
to using the power button as well.
Lots of luck!

Well, I have the iPhone 8 Plus. On occasion, I can get the time announced

So far, IOS 12 seems to be working fine for me, I have only noticed
one
thing that is annoying. When pressing the home button, the time is
no
longer automatically spoken, I use this as a talking clock. It is
spoken

So far, IOS 12 seems to be working fine for me, I have only noticed one
thing that is annoying. When pressing the home button, the time is no
longer automatically spoken, I use this as a talking clock. It is spoken
when using the power button to wake the phone though, I guess I will just
use that for now. Other than that, have not noticed any issues.

Hmmm... I always have my iPhone 8 placed face down on the table. When I
turn it face up, it automatically speaks the current time. Then I turn
it facedown again. Might be something you would want to try?

RE: IOS 12 observations

2018-09-19 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Simon,

Believe it or not, I noticed the same behavior after updating to iOS 12 and it
drove me crazy until I discovered the solution, (smile).

While this was done, automatically in iOS 11, in iOS 12, from the Settings
menu, select sounds and haptics. Next, Make certain that Vibrate on Silent is
set to on. Next, select the New Mail item by single-finger Double-tapping.
Now, at the very top of the display, select the Vibration pattern. The default
is set to off. This is why there is no vibration. Simply set it to Quick, and
all will be as it was in iOS 11. (smile).

Enjoy,

Mark

So, simple solution, if you want to simply wake up the phone so it speaks the
time use the power button which incidently is often referred to as the

If I want to unlock my phone with Touch Id I use the home button, push it and
rest my finger for a moment and the phone unlocks.
If you have an iPhone X or any of this year's 3 new phones you have to press

This happens with my iphone SE, I need to upgrade my iphone 8 and see if it
happens with that phone as well. If you listen closely, it sounds like the
speech starts to say the time but then is cut off, usually when the screen
turns on, voiceover speaks the first item on the screen which is the time, I
just wonder what is different when pressing the power button instead of the

Do you mean from the lock screen?
If so, just swipe down once on the message to "View", then double tap and you
have the full Messages experiences with edit field, keyboard and, if it's an
iMessage, the Record Audio Button and all of that without unlocking your phone.
Of course as soon as you type something the "Record Audio" button becomes the
Send button.

Re: IOS 12 observations

2018-09-19 Thread Mike Arrigo
This happens with my iphone SE, I need to upgrade my iphone 8 and see
if it happens with that phone as well. If you listen closely, it sounds
like the speech starts to say the time but then is cut off, usually
when the screen turns on, voiceover speaks the first item on the screen
which is the time, I just wonder what is different when pressing the
power button instead of the home button to wake the phone up.

Re: IOS 12 observations

2018-09-19 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Jed,
The send button is still above the p on the screen, but you are running into
the issue that was added with iOS 11, the list of messaging apps. If you flick
with one finger to the left from your message text, you should have a button
that says something like "messaging apps, visible" double tap on that and it
should switch to hidden and those annoying apps will vanish.
The old method was to double tap and hold and then swipe down on that button.
But the double tap should work now.
HTH,
Richard
If you are using fingerprint to unlock the phone, then you won't hear the time.
I just tried it, and if I use a different finger, I hear the time, but using my
fingerprint, I do not.
