Re: Battery Issue in latest update
Oh, wow, I have a first generation iPhone SE showing maximum capacity of 66 percent and still showing as supporting normal peak performance. The maximum capacity on my iPhone 7 is 78 percent, and it is also showing supporting normal peak performance. And, grin, no, as I've mentioned before, what with living out in the country and not near a place to do so, I don't plan to replace the batteries on them. I'm just trying to get the most I can out of them before I break out my newer iPhones and use them on a regular basis. I do have them backed up and ready to go, as the battery life on these older phones is now lasting less and less time between charges, as well as often very suddenly dropping 20 percent or more at a time and sometimes just shutting off altogether. Thus, when I go out for more than just a few minutes, I take both phones with me just in case. - Original Message - From: Sieghard Weitzel To: "viphone@googlegroups.com" Date: Sunday, August 1, 2021 11:51 am Subject: RE: Battery Issue in latest update > > > 82% is very close to where Apple recommends that you get the battery changed > and I am actually surprised it still considers it peak performance, maybe > they changed it a bit, but when I had my iPhone 8 I was told my battery was > not performing at it's full potential when it was at 83%. > > -Original Message- > From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Joshua > Hendrickson > Sent: Sunday, August 1, 2021 4:25 AM > To: viphone@googlegroups.com > Subject: Re: Battery Issue in latest update > > I updated my iPhone 8 to 14.71 yesterday and when I checked my battery > health, it still said I was at 82% and at peak performance. The reason why I only pay $10 per month for apple care, is because last year something new from apple is offered here in the US. I had to get the $10 per month option within 30 days of my apple care+ expiring. I took advantage of it, and I'm happy with it. I am waiting for my iPhone to get to at least 80%, then I will have the battery replaced. RE: Battery Issue in latest update
Thanks Malcolm for this information and my apologies for assuming that because theft and loss are not covered here that this is so everywhere. It goes to show that discussing such options really require posters to specify which country they are in because here in Canada the AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss is not offered and in fact Apple clearly states that whatever coverage they provide may be subject to the laws of the jurisdiction where you live. The same applies to many services or products such as the Apple Credit Card, Apple Pay, Apple TV etc. On the US Apple website it does say: Every iPhone comes with one year of hardware repair coverage through its limited warranty and up to 90 days of complimentary support. Both AppleCare+ options extend your coverage and provide up to two incidents of accidental damage protection every 12 months. AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss adds up to two incidents of theft or loss coverage every 12 months. And then there are the many countries around the world where Apple has no presence in terms of Apple Stores and Apple products are distributed and sold exclusively by third party companies, South Africa is one such example. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Malcolm Parfitt Sent: Sunday, August 1, 2021 9:19 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Battery Issue in latest update According to Apple when I phoned them in May, AppleCare+ does cover loss and theft in the US and Japan but not here in the UK so not worth buying for me.Malcolm Parfitt > On 1 Aug 2021, at 17:06, Sieghard Weitzel wrote: > > Apple Care + is good for 2 years, maybe you have something extra offered by > Best Buy, but you only get a battery replaced at no charge if its capacity > drops below 80% prior to or by the time your AppleCare+ warranty expires. > I used to get AppleCare+ as well when I had my first 3 or 4 iPhones, but I > think the last time I bought it was with my 6S. RE: Battery Issue in latest update
Apple Care + is good for 2 years, maybe you have something extra offered by Best Buy, but you only get a battery replaced at no charge if its capacity drops below 80% prior to or by the time your AppleCare+ warranty expires. I used to get AppleCare+ as well when I had my first 3 or 4 iPhones, but I think the last time I bought it was with my 6S. Now it's so expensive that I don't bother any more, I pay something like $40 a year to have a separate rider added to my home insurance which covers my iPhone and this includes loss or theft as well not just damage and AppleCare+ does not cover that. When I lost my iPhone 6S back in 2016 or whenever it was I claimed it through my insurance and with very little fuss I received a cheque for the full amount of what a new iPhone 6S cost at the time + taxes and this way I was actually not even stuck with getting the exact same replacement and I ended up paying the extra to buy a 6S Plus at the time. Here is a bunch of information about AppleCare+ directly from the Apple website: Coverage begins on your AppleCare+ purchase date. Service coverage is available only for iPhone and its original included accessories or for batteries that retain less than 80% of their original capacity. The replacement equipment that Apple provides as part of the repair or replacement service may be new or equivalent to new in both performance and reliability. See AppleCare+ Terms and Conditions for full details. AppleCare+ for iPhone provides coverage for up to two incidents of accidental damage from handling every 12 months. Each incident is subject to a service fee of $39 for a screen replacement, or $129 for any other damage, plus applicable tax. Any unused incidents will expire after 12 months of coverage and you will get two more incidents to use within the next 12 months of continued coverage. Local telephone fees may apply. Telephone numbers and hours of operation may vary and are subject to change. Express Replacement Service is not available under the screen replacement service fee. Same-day service availability and options may vary by region and iPhone model. For international service, Apple may repair or replace your iPhone and iPhone parts with a comparable iPhone model or parts that comply with local standards. Service coverage is subject to AppleCare+ Terms and Conditions. See AppleCare+ Terms and Conditions for complete product details. 82% is very close to where Apple recommends that you get the battery changed and I am actually surprised it still considers it peak performance, maybe they changed it a bit, but when I had my iPhone 8 I was told my battery was not performing at it's full potential when it was at 83%. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Joshua Hendrickson Sent: Sunday, August 1, 2021 4:25 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: Battery Issue in latest update I updated my iPhone 8 to 14.71 yesterday and when I checked my battery health, it still said I was at 82% and at peak performance. I've got apple care+ with theft and loss that I now pay $10 per month for. So when I need to get a new battery, it shouldn't cost me anything. I have to go to best buy for any apple work on my iPhone. I don't really like best buy, but I have no choice. Re: Battery Issue in latest update
When the battery health drops below 80%, Apple recommends getting the battery replaced. As the battery health declines your battery will hold its charge for less time. If you got 5 hours at 100% then at 80% you'll get 4 roughly 4 hours. I do not know what other problems the degrading battery may cause, but jenwally it isn't that expensive to get it replaced. There are lots of places that will do that if Apple gives you a stupidly high price. Re: Battery Issue in latest update
Now that you mention it, I have noticed the same thing and it did seem to start around the time that I installed ios 14 or at least ios 14.6. > On Jul 31, 2021, at 12:54 PM, Duane Steele wrote: > > Hello again, listers, > > In an earlier text I mentioned my misgivings about iOS 14 which I didn't get > around to installing till last week. RE: Battery Issue in latest update
Have you turned your phone off and then back on, to see if you would get back to normal battery usage. That can happen after an update, but shouldn't go on and on. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Duane Steele Sent: Saturday, July 31, 2021 12:54 PM To: IPhone List Subject: Battery Issue in latest update Hello again, listers, In an earlier text I mentioned my misgivings about iOS 14 which I didn't get around to installing till last week. RE: Battery Issue in latest update
What happens sometimes is that tracking is on for many applications on the phone, and it can be a battery drone. Going into settings and accessing the settings for all your apps, turn off tracking for any of them where you don't really need tracking, and it'll go a long way. Also reducing the screen brightness can help, although if you use the phone for stuff like boarding passes you need it a little brighter than you otherwise wood. Maybe someone else can come other thoughts also. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Duane Steele Sent: Saturday, July 31, 2021 12:54 PM To: IPhone List Subject: Battery Issue in latest update Hello again, listers, In an earlier text I mentioned my misgivings about iOS 14 which I didn't get around to installing till last week.
