Janet, if you still have trouble with the home gesture, if you have a
bluetooth keyboard pared up to your phone you could do it on the keyboard.

Anna,
Ok, I just tried the home gesture now, and low in behold, it worked!
Something that simple, and I didn't even think of it!

Thank you thank you!

Hi Janet,

Try doing the Home gesture again; it should scan again. You can also lock
and then unlock the screen.

Hi Janet,
If you completely power down your phone you will have to enter your code
then after that you can use Face ID.

Hi,
You can also perform the home gesture by swiping up from the bottom, This
will initiate a second scan.

Hi

Most of the time the Face ID works pretty well on my iPhone XS, but now
and then it fails to recognize me. I believe since iOS 12, the times the
scan tries is only once. After that you have to put in your code or
switch it off and wake the iPhone again to try again.
After a search I have learned sighted users can initiate a second scan
with a finger flick from a bottom corner upwards. This doesn’t work with
Voice Over. No other finger flick seems to do the trick for that matter.
I have asked Apple Accessibility about this, but they never answer me
unfortunately.

Does anyone here know if there is a way to scan again with Voice Over?

Thanks.

All iPhones still come with wired headphones. On the newer phones, they're just
like your AirPods except they end in a lightning connector instead of the

You use whatever iPhone you decide you want, as most who have and use Face Id
will attest it works very well and will probably be even further improved in
future phones. Your SE is probably good for at least another year or two, maybe
you need to get a new battery at some point, but that can easily be done and in
fact if you go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health and see that your
capacity is below 88% or 86% you might want to take advantage of Apple's $29
replacement program which you can still do until December 31, 2018. I really
wouldn't worry too much, accessibility won't suddenly go away or become
horrible and with Samsung coming out with the first foldable display phone next
year as they promised in a few years we may all carry tiny phones with a small
screen on the outside which become iPad Mini type devices when unfolded.

phone, I have to enter my pass code. Smile! Now, if I have to enter my pass
code to unlock the phone when I am out, I don't feel comfortable entering my
pass code when out in public though. I don't think that is a smart thing to
do, as one might not know who is around. I know when I power down the phone I
have to enter my pass code.
Although, I have to admit when I unlock my phone using face id, I'm quite
amazed that the face id can still recognize my face even if I'm in the dark or
even if I am wearing my sun glasses, as when I set up the face id feature, I
wasn't wearing my sun glasses, and I was in a bright setting, and I even had
the screen curtain turned on as I usually do, but I forgot it was on when I was
setting up the face id. I think this alone is quite amazing though! I'm
actually blown away by this! It doesn't take much to please me! Smile!

Hi Janet,
If you completely power down your phone you will have to enter your code then
after that you can use Face ID.

RE: Face ID: how to initiate second scan with Voice Over?

2018-11-18 Thread Cristobal Muñoz
This is where as I mentioned some sort of bluetooth earpiece comes in. For
privacy as well as for the fact that trying to hear VoiceOver or use your phone
in an environment with ambient noise and whatnot really is not a pleasant or
efficient experience.
If you don't have a Bluetooth earpiece of some sort, I would strongly recommend
you consider getting one. You don't even have to buy a super expensive or hi
tech model. Even somethin 30 or 40 bucks if that would even afford you all
sorts of privacy and piece of mind.

Hi,
I'm reluctant to enter my pass code when out in public or around some people

hear vo, I'm sure others can hear it as well. As far as entering my pass code

To each their own, but I wouldn't be as reluctant to enter in my pin. You can
do so with your phone still in your pocket or purse or if that's too awkward,
then just enable the screen curtain so if someone's actually taking the time to
watch you for the 2 or 3 seconds that it takes to punch in 4 or 6 or whatever
digits, they'll see you tapping away at a black screen anyway. If I'm out and
about, I always use a blutooth earpiece. Be it my Trekz Air or Plantronics
5500. Having Vo just chattering away like that feels awkward and it's hard to
hear anyway. I like my privacy too.
I do prefer the old touch ID method, but ho well, so goes technology.

RE: Face ID: how to initiate second scan with Voice Over?

2018-11-18 Thread janet gross
Hi Maria,
Unfortunately, that won't work for me. If the face id doesn't recognize my
face the first time, I don't get a second chance, so in order to unlock the
phone, I have to enter my pass code.

2018-11-18 Thread janet gross
Hi Aleeha and all,

Oh how I wish this home gesture would work with my xr phone, because when face
id doesn't work the first time, I have no other choice but to enter my code, or
simply turn off the phone, and try it again. Although, when I am out and
about, I usually will turn off the phone, and I will then try the face id
instead of entering my code when out in public, as I don't feel comfortable
entering my code when out in public.

Hi,
You can also perform the home gesture by swiping up from the bottom, This will
initiate a second scan.

After a search I have learned sighted users can initiate a second scan

Does anyone here know if there is a way to scan again with Voice Over?

Hi Ronald,
Have you tried retraining Face ID? In other words have you tried reseting Face

Hi Aleeha,

Doesn't seem to work here. When the code screen pops up, you cannot scan again
and have to put in your code to enable face id again.

Re: Face ID: how to initiate second scan with Voice Over?

2018-11-17 Thread Ronald van Rhijn
Hi Maria,

I often have the iPhone next to me on the table when I wake it with a tap on
the screen and then tilt it a bit towards my face. It mostly unlocks.
Holding the phone shortly away from your face after a failed scan and then beck
again sometimes works, but not always.
