Re: Fleksy Alternatives for pre-iOS 7 Users?
Hi all! Just wanted to let you know that our latest update is rolling out over the App Store. Here's the changelog: New: - iOS 6 support - Manual capitalization is back: In manual entry mode, flick up after a letter to change to upper case. Flick down for lower case - Add twitter handles and emails to the dictionary! With manual entry, type @fleksy and flick up like normal. Now whenever you type fleksy, @fleksy will be one of the suggestions. Similarly, feedbackfleksycom will be corrected to feedb...@fleksy.com Fixed: - Tamed the instructional popup - , ? ! ; : will now be read properly by VO instead of Period - various bugs and crashes Hint: Start your text with: M @fleksy and select Tweet from menu to send us a DM :D Known Issue: - On iOS 6, Fleksy might stop processing taps properly on app resume when VO is enabled. Workaround: Quit Fleksy from App Switcher and restart. Your text will be saved. We are working on a fix for the next update. Once again, we want to apologize for any inconvenience. We start to rebuild with this version. Looking forward to your feedback! - the Fleksy team On Thu, Dec 12, 2013 at 2:11 PM, Alan Lemly wale...@gmail.com wrote: Bill, thanks so much for providing this information. Hi, I for one am glad the sdk is available to third party apps and am glad that iOS 7 was able to make this possible. I understand the few who can't or won't upgrade to iOS 7, but honestly, if you can, and you want to stay with using some of the latest technologies, then upgrading is the only way to do this. Hi, You don’t need to search for alternatives. Apple allows you to download the latest version of an app that’s compatible with your device if you’re not running iOS 7. RE: Fleksy Alternatives for pre-iOS 7 Users?
I have a Verbatim bluetooth keyboard that folds up for portability but I've never really used it since Fleksy was so convenient. I think I would prefer an app since that will always be available on the phone but I appreciate your suggestion. RE: Fleksy Alternatives for pre-iOS 7 Users?
Maybe you could provide some more details about how to do this. When I've tried running Fleksy since its latest upgrade, I get a message forcing me to the Apps Store for the latest upgrade. When I attempt to do that, I get a message saying the new version requires iOS 7 and to execute another button if I want to install the last version compatible with my iOS. When I do this and run the app again, I get the upgrade required message once again so I'm in a circular loop. Any ideas? RE: Fleksy Alternatives for pre-iOS 7 Users?
Hi Alan, Of course upgrading is your choice, but unless you have an iPhone 4 iOS 7 really is a good upgrade and it offers some features which in my opinion easily make up for the bugs. In any case, we should be very close to the 7.1 upgrade and I would be surprised if some of the main issues wouldn't be addressed here. I do, however, think that Fleksy needs to address this issue about the app asking to update because how about iPhone 3GS users or iPhone 4 users who don't want to upgrade. As somebody else pointed out, Apple offers this new functionality where somebody can download the last version of an app which worked under an older version of the OS and I would contact Fleksy support and request that they make sure this works and is possible. RE: Fleksy Alternatives for pre-iOS 7 Users?
Yes, I've sent messages to Fleksy Support on several occasions including this one and find they are very good at apologizing for any inconvenience and even better at ignoring the specific questions asked or issues raised. I realize if I want to continue to use this app that I'll have to eventually upgrade to iOS 7. But it's only been out about three months and with the exception of Fleksy, I'm very pleased with how my current apps work under iOS 6.1.4. RE: Fleksy Alternatives for pre-iOS 7 Users?
Hi Sieghard, and thanks for your comments about iOS 7. I will no doubt move to it at some point and perhaps when version 7.1 comes out, that will be it. I just saw another post from Syntellia which seems to indicate that at some point those of us running older versions of Fleksy will no longer get the upgrade message which prevents the app from running at launch. We'll see and in the meantime, I've written iTunes Store Support so I can understand better Apple's policy about forced iOS upgrades in order to continue using an app that comes out with a new version. Re: Fleksy Alternatives for pre-iOS 7 Users?
Hey guys, Thank you for the discussion, we appreciate all feedback and try to keep open communication on all platforms. We just posted the following message on AppleVis and I thought it would be helpful if I shared it here as well: Just wanted to let you know we have some promising leads on how to restore functionality for iOS 6 devices. We are working on it and should our work be fruitful, plan to submit an update as soon as possible. Thank you for expressing your commitment to Fleksy and thank you for reaching out to us with your honest feedback. We are equally committed to supporting Fleksy for as many users as possible., http://www.applevis.com/apps/ios/productivity/fleksy-happy-typing#comment-19668 Thanks again for your honesty. We do really appreciate your patience with us Regards, - Bill from the Fleksy team On Tuesday, December 3, 2013 8:37:54 AM UTC-8, Alan Lemly wrote: As I suspected, I just received confirmation from Fleksy Support that with the latest upgrade, the app only works with iOS 7.0 and later. I'm in the process of learning braille so don't think an app such as MBraille would be ideal. I would prefer something using a QWERTY keyboard format. And my vision is very limited so integration with VoiceOver is a must. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I really enjoyed Fleksy during the nine months I was using it but I think I prefer apps that don't feel the need to upgrade quite so quickly every time another iOS version is released. Yes, I know that makes me sound like a bit of a Luddite but I suspect I'm not the only one who spends time learning an app that meets my needs and doesn't want to upgrade to something that makes numerous interface changes in order to provide some new features that I don't want. This is particularly true when the upgrade forces an iOS upgrade too. Fleksy's excellent predictive functionality was quite amazing so I will no doubt return to it at some point. Thanks in advance for any typing alternative app recommendations. Alan Lemly -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. RE: Fleksy Alternatives for pre-iOS 7 Users?
Bill, thanks for this encouraging news and good luck with restoring Fleksy functionality for those of us running pre-iOS 7 versions.
