I think since Apple is using its own CDN to distribute iOS 8, there may be
certain ares where people are having more issues with the download than others
and this may be much different than with past releases. I finally got
frustrated after a couple of days and connected to a VPN server and the
download worked perfectly, even though I was unable to get it to complete using
my home ISP. I am just postulating and have no information to substantiate
this.

Not sure how much data you have, but the Australian voice is 120 Gb, why not
try it via 3G or LTE whichever you have.

Unfortunately doing the reset settings did absolutely nothing as I am again
trying to download the Australian enhanced quality and it has been stuck as
preparing to download for five minutes again so that makes me think it is
either Apple's servers or Verizon Fios is screwing me with my internet will
have to get over to a neighbor's tomorrow and try it on their network,
thanks for the advice

this, thanks again.

if I can even get past where it is contacting the server it keeps
jumping hour by hour. I canciled it when it got to 125 hours.

Mine took several hours to download Alex as I recall. But that was the first
day the new iOS was out.

I tried and tried to turn over a new leaf.
I got crumpled wads of tear-stained paper
thrown in the trash!
Then God gave me a new heart and life:
His joy for my despairing tears!
And now, every day:

his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness."

Unfortunately doing the reset settings did absolutely nothing as I am again
trying to download the Australian enhanced quality and it has been stuck as
preparing to download for five minutes again so that makes me think it is
either Apple's servers or Verizon Fios is screwing me with my internet will
have to get over to a neighbor's tomorrow and try it on their network, thanks

Brian, my wife and I downloaded Thursday afternoon at the same time -- she
to an iPhone 5C and me a Touch 5. We were on the same WIFI network. Her
download took about 10 minutes, whereas mine took almost 2 hours. I don't
think you can attribute the difference to the devices.

Ok, since a Google search doesn't seem to find much figured I would email
the list as this is getting hilarious now. 5 attempts to install IOS 8 and
all downloads have failed. I have reset my device, I have tried installing
through iTunes 3 times, and over wireless twice and all have met with the
same result the download fails. I have tried at different hours of the day
to download and install it and it still doesn't work. any ideas, or am I
just the lucky one who can't install IOS 8.

Hi Brian,

Well, I am not sure if it's entirely Apple's servers or maybe slow download
speed on your end. I just thought I try this and I started the Australian
high quality voice download a bit over 1 minute ago and it's currently at 20
of 120 Mb. It does appear a bit slow on my end here as well, I have a
connection which gives me 25 Mbps down and 5 up. It seems that it takes
about 8 seconds in between Voiceover saying it's downloaded another Mb, so
about 7 or 8 Mb per minute which would mean it will take 15 or 17 minutes to
download the 120 Mb which normally would download on my connection in about
a minute. I now went out of the speech setting screen back to the home
screen and locked my phone, that was when the download was at 44 Mb. Now I
went back maybe a minute or so later and I'm at 61 Mb, in other words for me
the download is not super fast, but working just fine.
Have you tried to maybe do a Reset all Network Settings on your phone to see
if that clears things up? Make sure you know your WiFi password, though,
you'll need to reconnect after the phone reboots.
OK, now the download has finished and it took pretty much exactly 15
minutes.

2014-09-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Brian,

That was one bug I reported on very early theoretically even breaking my
NDA. Before the public release you actually had to power down your phone
completely to stop the tone, removing the phone from the app switcher
wouldn't do it so I guess there is improvement. Maybe in the next update
Apple will make it so the tone only sticks for 10 seconds and then stops by
itself. Anyhow, enough of the sarcasm, I was actually going to reply and say
that maybe you are in fact "lucky" that the update didn't work. If it had
continued to not work you'd still be on iOS 7 without dial tones sticking.

Subject: Re: Hilarious three days and still can't install IOS 8 on a 5S

Hey David, well I guess they should change the saying to the 6th time is a
charm as the installation finally worked on the 6th attempt, and it
installed lighting fast. Now I get to deal with the hilarity of the bugs as
I already saw the bug dialing a phone number in the phone, pretty hilarious.
How serious can Apple actually test VoiceOver when dialing a phone number
with VO doesn't even work, pretty funny stuff as I had to quit the phone in
the app switcher to get the press of the button on the dial pad to stop
making noise. Good thing I do not often dial phone numbers, but seriously
Apple are you kidding me.

all downloads have failed. I have reset my device, I have tried installing
through iTunes 3 times, and over wireless twice and all have met with the
same result the download fails. I have tried at different hours of the day
to download and install it and it still doesn't work. any ideas, or am I
just the lucky one who can't install IOS 8.
