Re: How do you send a new tweet with the Twitter app?
In my view, getting used to the Twitter official app is the way to go. I don't only follow blind people's accounts, and many of the users that post to my timeline use features like surveys that are not available from third party clients. If the rumors that Twitter will open its api to let developer implement all features, maybe I will consider a different alternative. For now I'm just fine. Francisco, Thanks. That is what I'm experiencing with my conversation direct messaging the Beats Support folks. Now that I'm actually tweeting a few times, I'm getting the hang of Twitter. RE: How do you send a new tweet with the Twitter app?
Hi Mark, I wanted to update the list on my Twitter experience after your instructions below and after updating to the latest Twitter version. I was able to tweet a direct message to @BeatsSupport and have a dialog going with them regarding my BeatsX earphones issue. Twitter is a great tool for getting support where a company has a Twitter support presence. Thanks again for your help. Hello Alan, Okay, first, I could not reproduce your findings as I was able to send a direct message without any difficulty. I will paste in your previously listed steps updated with my own. Second, when trying to reproduce your experience, I could not locate any account that starts with the word Beats. So, if you could reply with the @Name for the profile you wish to contact, I will see if I can send them a direct message. Since I could not locate your intended recipient, I sent a direct message to Apple Support, @AppleSupport, a profile to which I have sent direct messages, in the past.. 1. >From within Twitter, select the Messages tab. 2. Activate the Compose New Message, button.. 3. Either search for @AppleSupport or, if you have previously contacted them, locate their profile from the previously contacted list, located below the Search field, and single-finger, double tap the profile to activate it. 4. Either by swiping or explore-by-touch, locate the edit field which VoiceOver announces as, Compose new message, start a new message, and single-finger, double-tap the field to display the on-screen keyboard. 5. Type in your message and, when finished, activate the Send, button. Thats all there is to it. Alan, give this another try and let us know how it goes. Mark, Thanks so much for taking the time to give such detailed instructions. I very much appreciate it. I believe my issue was in item 4 of your example but I will admit that when going through the Apps Store updates today, I saw a Twitter update from a couple of days ago that I wasn't running when I posted my message. I'll not be discouraged and will keep on keeping on with Twitter and will let you know of my next attempt and its outcome. I did install Twitterific to have as a fallback in case I experience future problems. Thanks so much for your moderation of this list. I get so much helpful info from it. Hello Alan, As you may know, I am a huge fan of the native Twitter app. I don’t have time in this moment but, later today, if you have not yet received any replies on this, I will reply with a comprehensive answer to your dilemma. Not to engage in a debate but don’t give up on the Twitter app, just yet (smile). Hello Alan. The button for composing a new tweet is located in the bottom right corner of the screen, just above the messages tab. Each tweet has Voiceover custom actions that let you reply, retweet, like, open a link and much more by flicking up and down. To dm a specific account, go to their profile, either from the search tab or with Voiceover actions from a tweet this person sent and you will find the compose dm button within a few fliks from the top element. Hope this helps. Best. RE: How do you send a new tweet with the Twitter app?
If ever you get frustrated enough with the Twitter app, you could always give Twitterrific a spin. It’s completely Voiceover accessible and in my opinion at least a way better user experience than the native twitter app. No promoted tweets, a nice chronological stream and in general less clunky. It used to be a one time app purchase, but they recently went to a year sub which is something like $5 a year. A lot of blind folks use Twitterrific for the reasons stated above. I simply use the Twitter app for notifications. Francisco, Many thanks for your reply. I'm glad to know about the custom actions provided when swiping up and down on a Tweet. I'm still finding the Twitter app horribly unintuitive when using Voiceover and I'm going to give an example below so I can hopefully modify my procedures to get better at tweeting. 1. I execute the Messages tab button which is the rightmost button on the bottomline menu. 2. I double tap on the compose new message button which is just above the Messages button on the bottomline menu. 3. Focus is on a search box where I can search for people and groups to whom I'd like to send the message. If I swipe right, I'm taken to a list of what I'm guessing is previous accounts I've tweeted to in the past. I place focus on the first one of these which is Beats by Dre Support and double tap. 4. I'm taken to a text field which Voiceover speaks Beats by Dre Support so I'm thinking this must be the Send To address. When I swipe right once, Voiceover says text field is editing word mode insertion point at start so I'm thinking this is where I should type my tweet. 5. The on screen keyboard is present so I type Test. However, the Send button which is on a horizontal menu that appears above the on screen keyboard is dimmed and as I swipe, I'm presented with @test so apparently I wasn't in the text field to compose my tweet but was still in some sort of send to field since the app is searching for someone to send to. If you could give me some direction as to how to get into the actual text area in which to compose a tweet after selecting the Send to person as I described above, I'd love to hear it. I'd have to rate Twitter as inaccessible based on what I'm experiencing. If this is due to operator error on my part, please instruct me so I can correct my actions. RE: How do you send a new tweet with the Twitter app?
Gera, Thanks for confirming that the native Twitter app is less than intuitive with Voiceover. I have a policy that if an app requires another service in order to make it usable by the visually impaired, then I'm just not going to use it or use it on a very limited basis. The apps I use on my iPhone 8 seem to get updated weekly and sometimes multiple times in one week and I just don't believe an app such as Twitterrific can stay updated to work as it should.
