So before spending the $5.99 for Voice Dream Scanner, get your phone checked

Apple should be able to do that remotely if you don’

You will need the serial number from the Settings, General, About screen so

results.

But, I can assure you that if your camera is functioning correctly, you will

But even without the reader, it is simply the best OCR application on the

Well, the Seeing AI app as we all know is free seems to work just fine for a
lot of people. Why it doesn’t work for some I don’t know, but while I also
don’t use the KNFB Reader app any more, I do use the Seeing AI app as well as
Tap Tap See. I have not found either of these apps to have gone downhill and it
sounds like Tap Tap See may soon get a big update which will make it even
better.
I also bought Voice Dream Scanner and I do agree that it is an amazing app. If
Andy’s logic applied then KNFB Reader which is super expensive compared to
Voice Dream Scanner should win hands down, but that is definitely not the case.
I also say that you get what you pay for in some situations, but it is not
always the case and sometimes you pay more for something and you get less.

Hi Janet,
Glad to hear the phone checks out.

Voice Dream Scanner can be used completely on its own.

Aside from loving the Voice Dream Reader app and how it handles so many
document types, especially books from Bookshare, when you have both apps, you
can scan image based PDF files from within Voice Dream Reader using Scanner.
but like I say, if you don't need or want Voice Dream Reader, Voice Dream
Scanner works fine by itself; you just won't be able to use it for PDF files.

Janet,
Before you do anything, you need to sort out if your phone is having a problem,
which I suspect now that it is.
If TapTapSee isn’t working for you, then something has gone bad with your
camera.

KNFB Reader is a joke these days, but TapTapSee should work fine, as well as
should Seeing AI in at least the short text channel.

So before spending the $5.99 for Voice Dream Scanner, get your phone checked
out.
Apple should be able to do that remotely if you don’
T have an Apple store handy.

You will need the serial number from the Settings, General, About screen so
they can run the diagnostics, or rather have you run them and they can see the
results.

But, I can assure you that if your camera is functioning correctly, you will
not be sorry to spend the $5.99 for Voice Dream Scanner, especially if you

Andy,
I’m sure that’s not the way the world works, but I did pay for KNFB Reader,
matter of fact, I purchased it when it was on sale for $54.99, and that never

I have never gotten reliable results from seeing AI's bar code reader. I feel
that the product has deteriorated in its performance. For me, this was to be
expected, because in these instances, a product may be offered for free as a
way to get people to use the product so they can test proof of concept. After
this is done, the developers move on to something else.

Hi All,
I used to be able to use the Seeing AI app until I got my new XR phone,
but
now, for some unknown reason the app doesn't work 99.9 percent of the
time.
When I open the app and hold it over a can of soup or a box, etc,
sometimes
it will beep for a few seconds, and sometimes it just doesn't do
anything,
very seldom it will try to mumble a few words that I can't understand,
and
the phone also gets quite warm. I've just called Microsoft support
through
the Be My Eyes app, and they told me they can't do any trouble shooting
over
the phone. Although, they did read my can of soup to me, but I guess
that
might be all they can do, not sure! LOL! All MS could tell me was to
take
it to an Apple store, and let them see how it is acting because they
think
something must be wrong with the hardware, or I might have some kind of
virus or a worm, and Apple needs to see this. MS also said the Seeing

So my

Hi Janet. I have used seeing ai, tap tap see and voice dream scanner. I’m not
sure seeing ai is deteriorating as much as maybe my ability to hold a camera,
smile. I just find that voice dream is doing a better job at the moment. With
my possible deteriorating abilities, I am using our reading machine more now.

What does your statement, "You get what you pay for" mean?
It makes no sense in the context of Janet's note as she mentioned two free apps

since it is awful.

I am not finding Seeing AI or TapTapSee getting worse, but those are free apps,

Hi Janet,
Glad to hear the phone checks out.

You will need the serial number from the Settings, General, About screen so
they can run the diagnostics, or rather have you run them and they can see the
results.

But, I can assure you that if your camera is functioning correctly, you will
not be sorry to spend the $5.99 for Voice Dream Scanner, especially if you
already have Voice Dream Reader.

Hi Richard,
Yes, I am definitely considering purchasing the Voice Stream Scanner. Can
Voice Stream scanner be purchased from the app store? I called Apple
accessibility, and they remotely ran a diagnostic test, and I am happy to say
all is well! So I can now purchase the Voice Stream Scanner! Smile! I don’t
have the voice Stream Reader though, will that make a difference?
Thank you again!

Janet,
Before you do anything, you need to sort out if your phone is having a problem,
which I suspect now that it is.

You will need the serial number from the Settings, General, About screen so
they can run the diagnostics, or rather have you run them and they can see the
results.

But, I can assure you that if your camera is functioning correctly, you will
not be sorry to spend the $5.99 for Voice Dream Scanner, especially if you
already have Voice Dream Reader.
But even without the reader, it is simply the best OCR application on the
iPhone.
It does not do bar codes, or any scene descriptions, but it will do the best

Hi All,

When I open the app and hold it over a can of soup or a box, etc, sometimes

it to an Apple store, and let them see how it is acting because they think
something must be wrong with the hardware, or I might have some kind of
virus or a worm, and Apple needs to see this. MS also said the Seeing AI
app is pretty strait forward, so I shouldn't be having this problem. So my
question is can anyone tell me what settings to check to see if I have the
app set up correctly?
I've uninstalled the app two times, and reinstalled it. I've picked the
voice I want to use for the app. I've checked the language, I've allowed
the app to use my camera. When I double tap on which reading option I want
to use meaning either to read a product, short text, document, etc,
sometimes, voiceover just completely stops talking, but I can still hear
some tapping sounds, so I know the phone or the app is doing something, but
I have to close the Seeing AI app through the app switcher, to get voiceover
to talk again, and go back into the app. Sometimes the screen jumps to the
app switcher, or just closes the entire app.
I've reset my phone up as a new phone two times since I've had it, I've
reset my network settings as well, so any opinions will be greatly
appreciated!
Thank you all.

Subject: Seeing AI App Question Please.

Hi All,
I used to be able to use the Seeing AI app until I got my new XR phone,
but
now, for some unknown reason the app doesn't work 99.9 percent of the
AI
app is pretty strait forward, so I shouldn't be having this problem.
So my
question is can anyone tell me what settings to check to see if I have
the
app set up correctly?
I've uninstalled the app two times, and reinstalled it. I've picked the
voice I want to use for the app

Hi Janet,

Have you tried doing a hard reset and see if that correct any of your issues as
you said some of the other apps do not work correctly either. If you have a
case on your iPhone have you made sure it is not blocking the camera on the
front or the back of your iPhone.

Yes, I have the $6 to spare, but I’ve paid $55.99 for KNFB Reader app, and that

Hi All,
I used to be able to use the Seeing AI app until I got my new XR phone, but
now, for some unknown reason the app doesn't work 99.9 percent of the time.
When I open the app and hold it over a can of soup or a box, etc, sometimes
it will beep for a few seconds, and sometimes it just doesn't do anything,
very seldom it will try to mumble a few words that I can't understand, and
the phone also gets quite warm. I've just called Microsoft support through
the Be My Eyes app, and they told me they can't do any trouble shooting over
the phone. Although, they did read my can of soup to me, but I guess that
might be all they can do, not sure! LOL! All MS could tell me was to take
it to an Apple store, and let them see how it is acting because they think
something must be wrong with the hardware, or I might have some kind of
virus or a worm, and Apple needs to see this.
Janet

RE: Seeing AI App Question Please.

2019-05-31 Thread Richard Turner
Janet,
Before you do anything, you need to sort out if your phone is having a problem,
which I suspect now that it is.

You will need the serial number from the Settings, General, About screen so
they can run the diagnostics, or rather have you run them and they can see the
results.

But, I can assure you that if your camera is functioning correctly, you will
not be sorry to spend the $5.99 for Voice Dream Scanner, especially if you
already have Voice Dream Reader.
But even without the reader, it is simply the best OCR application on the
iPhone.
It does not do bar codes, or any scene descriptions, but it will do the best
job scanning print.

It does not do columns yet, but for text on cans, prescription bottles, sheets
of paper, there is nothing like it.

Richard

Hi Janet,
I think that voice stream scanner is definitely the best scanning OCR
application for your iPhone. I get much better results than I do with Seeing AI
or KnFB. That app has actually deteriorated since it first came out in my
opinion. I think he would be happy spending the six dollars for a Voice Dream

RE: Seeing AI App Question Please.

2019-05-31 Thread janet gross
Hi Larry and all.
Yes, I have the $6 to spare, but I’ve paid $55.99 for KNFB Reader app, and that
doesn’t work well either, I have the Seeing AI app, I have the TapTap See app,
and that isn’t working either. So I just wonder how well this voice dream
scanner might work. Although, I would like to learn more about the voice dream
scanner.

If you have the $6 to spare, Winston Chin’s voice dream scanner is a wonderful
option. I have found it extremely useful.

app is pretty strait forward, so I shouldn't be having this problem. So my
question is can anyone tell me what settings to check to see if I have the
app set up correctly?

Janet, is Manage Lighting turned on? This can be found in Menu within the app?
With this on the app uses the flashlight on the iDevice if more light is
required. This is the only thing that hasn’t been mentioned. & the only thing

Re: Seeing AI App Question Please.

2019-05-30 Thread Richard Turner

I think the Be My Eyes call to microsoft is primarily for when you cannot
access your computer using a screen reader on a Windows machine and they can
then see your screen through the camera.
I'm not trying to say they are right to offer no help since it is their app,
and after thinking about it; Apple might not be of much help because it is a
third party app. Talk about a Catch 22 situation.
Perhaps writing to seein...@microsoft.com<mailto:seein...@microsoft.com>
would get you a better answer.
I have clients with XR phones who get better results with the Seeing AI app.
At the very least you should be able to read things with the short text channel.
Make sure the camera is not being blocked by anything, and that you have plenty
of light.
This has to be rather frustrating for you.

Although, I still believe it is the app.
Now, I’m not understanding what reason would someone call the special call to

i would then call Apple Accessibility and have them do a screen share because
there is no way you should get the same results on the different channels.
Short Text should be reading things immediately. Document should be giving you
information about positioning the phone. product should be beeping until it
finds a bar code, scene preview should make you double tap on the picture
button, etc.
So, something is most certainly out of order.

When you touch the area of the screen that says short text, you want to flick

Also, have you cleared everything out of the app switcher?
You also did not say which channel you are using.

HI Richard,
Yes, I agree with you when you say something is out of order. I just don’t
know what. I probably will have to call Apple to ask them if they have any
advice now, other than that, I just can’t use that app! I did use the app when
I first got it in 2017 on my iPhone 6 though, but just not with my Xr.
Although, I still believe it is the app.
Now, I’m not understanding what reason would someone call the special call to
MS through Be My Eyes, if they can’t do anything.

i would then call Apple Accessibility and have them do a screen share because
there is no way you should get the same results on the different channels.
Short Text should be reading things immediately. Document should be giving you
information about positioning the phone. product should be beeping until it
finds a bar code, scene preview should make you double tap on the picture
button, etc.
So, something is most certainly out of order.

Re: Seeing AI App Question Please.

2019-05-30 Thread Richard Turner

i would then call Apple Accessibility and have them do a screen share because
there is no way you should get the same results on the different channels.
Short Text should be reading things immediately. Document should be giving you
information about positioning the phone. product should be beeping until it
finds a bar code, scene preview should make you double tap on the picture
button, etc.
So, something is most certainly out of order.
Richard

When you touch the area of the screen that says short text, you want to flick
up to change channels, not tap.
Also, have you cleared everything out of the app switcher?
You also did not say which channel you are using.

Hi All,

Although, they did read my can of soup to me, but I guess that might be all

store, and let them see how it is acting because they think something must be
wrong with the hardware, or I might have some kind of virus or a worm, and
Apple needs to see this. MS also said the Seeing AI app is pretty strait
forward, so I shouldn't be having this problem. So my question is can anyone
tell me what settings to check to see if I have the app set up correctly?
I've uninstalled the app two times, and reinstalled it. I've picked the voice
I want to use for the app. I've checked the language, I've allowed the app to
use my camera. When I double tap on which reading option I want to use meaning
either to read a product, short text, document, etc, sometimes, voiceover just
completely stops talking, but I can still hear some tapping sounds, so I know
the phone or the app is doing something, but I have to close the Seeing AI app
through the app switcher, to get voiceover to talk again, and go back into the
app. Sometimes the screen jumps to the app switcher, or just closes the entire
app.
I've reset my phone up as a new phone two times since I've had it, I've reset
my network settings as well, so any opinions will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you all.
