RE: Yes virginia, there is a Santa Claus
Hello Richard and Everyone, Yes, this was definitely a clever subject line for a thread. Typically, we do not like to summarily mute threads unless the topic is obviously offensive, etc. Be that as it may, it may be time to change the subject line of this particular thread to more accurately reflect the scope of the conversation. As I have stated in the past, we are more than just a question and answer forum; sometimes this means that the topic of a thread may wander this way and that, for a bit; but, generally the threads stay on point, die out, or we make a request that they be closed. Remember, we're all friends here and if someone finds a subject line silly, it's not the end of the world, either, okay? I do not want anyone being flamed just because they stated a general, profanity-free opinion, all things being equal, of course. Well, it must be a known bug then for certain devices just as it seems to be the case with the Wallet app crashing. I was at first a bit hesitant to upgrade, but at this point this is probably the least buggy and most stable upgrade I have done in quite a few years. Sorry Cristobal, what does Apple need to address? I thought you said you aren't getting alerts and now you say you are getting them on both phones? Now, my SE 2020 I got last year, had significantly better sound than the SE first generation and of course, had the stereo if you had your nose about on the display. The 13 Pro sounds way better than the SE second generation. Bigger, clearer, and while the phone is only slightly longer than the SE second generation, the separation is noticeably better. I never heard the 11 or 12 pro, so maybe they are as good, but I’m quite impressed. Setting up Face ID was very easy. VoiceOver walks you through the setup with good directions. Best yet, at the end of the setup, it lets you know that the requires attention is turned off for VoiceOver users but you can turn it on if you wish. I wouldn’t do that. That requires very specific focus rather than just some of your face being seen by the camera. It makes unlocking the phone quite fast. I won’t guess at battery life for at least a week after I’ve used it a fair amount. My wife wathced a video on inserting the Nano SIM from my SE 2020 into the 13 Pro because she could not get it to fit. It goes in upside down from the way it was in the SE 2020. Then, it works fine. I am on Xfinity, and I could make calls, receive calls, etc., once the Sim was in and I rebooted to make sure. I will call them later to see if they need anything like the IMEI number, etc. I’m having a few issues with mBraille but that is probably me getting used to the larger screen, but I’m not sure yet. I used Super LIDAR from SuperSense briefly this morning. Very promising. One thing it does that might be nice for low-vision/blind going somewhere on their own, if it sees a person without a mask, it will tell you “person without a mask.” I think I’d want a lanyard, harness, something that would make it so I don’t have to hold the phone pointed ahead of me to use that feature, or any other LIDAR feature. I have some settings to still go through and some apps to log into again, but so far, I really like the phone a lot and know I won’t need or want another phone for several years. At the risk of continuing this off topic sub-thread about Sieghard's accident, there is no way boys would be prevented from doing that these days. Incidents like this are often in the news today. The reality is, parents have no control over their children's choices unless they lock them up and maintain 24/7 surveillance. I lost my sight in a similar stupid stunt which I won't go into here because the thread has gone too far off the rails. Esther, all of us who have 15 have the bugs, but they should be addressed in future updates. So, the same would be true on a new iPhone. Fortunately I was not one to wallow in my own misery and felt that moving on and making the best of it was what I had to do, but I also had the full support of my family and as this was still back in Germany where I was born and grew up, I was able to attend an excellent school for the blind which prepared me very well not just academically but also in terms of the skills I needed like learning braille, typing, hundreds of hours of O&M and so on. 3 Years after my accident which was in 1984 I spend 4 weeks in Toronto at a private language school to polish up on my English and in 1989 after I graduated from my Grade 13 high school I immigrated to Canada and started University where I eventually graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. Anyhow, enough biographical info, I don't want to take this too far off-topic. Hi richard, I guess afraid was not the proper word to use. I just recall that during the first year or two when this feature was first available, a lot of blind people, including me at the start, had decided that there was just no way was going to work for us and so we would not even try. But I have found that it really does work fine. That was all. I’m sure my eyes look close a lot. I’ve been told that by sighted people, I’ve never had site etc. So I’m nothing special when it comes to iContact or looking at the right place or any of that nonsense. I had no problems with attention mode turned on, but I eventually turned it off because in addition to very bad hand injuries, both my eyes were destroyed when I was 16 which I guess is what can happen with a home-build pipe bomb. I have two prosthetic eyes and I tend to not have them in at night and that is where Face Id with attention fails whereas it works just fine when attention mode is turned off. I think some blind people also tend to close their eyes a lot and if attention mode was turned on I am pretty sure it would not unlock the iPhone. It is like the decrotive plate holders, a plastic V with knotches near the end of each half and it hinges at one end and when you spread the sides open, the phone sits at a nice angle in landscape mode. I’m listing the observations/opinions in no particular order below. The Sound. Well, I was expecting better sound. I was not expecting this quality of sound. When in that little stand that came with the case, sitting at my desk about 2 feet in front of the phone, the stereo separation is very clear and the sound quality is quite impressive. I have some setti
Re: Yes virginia, there is a Santa Claus
Hi richard, I have been using this iPhone XR since I got it almost 3 years ago now. And I do have the attention thing on for face ID, and it is no problem. I have never had sight. And I am is easily able to unlock with face ID with attention enabled as I am with the touch ID on my old 7+. Neither of these is perfect, sometimes I have to use the code. But I wouldn’t be afraid of the attention mode if I were you.
