How to use imap to sync addresses gmail Re: how to integrate gmail with phone/contacts on ios?

2013-05-08 Thread anouk radix
Hi, Sorry I am not all that knowledgable about email protocols, how can
you sync your email addresses through imap with gmail on multiple
devices? I know my mac and iphone are set to imap but i dont want to use
icloud for addresses because i might in future need a windows device or
android.

Correct. Not only that, but Microsoft Exchange is no longer
supported for
new devices (i.e. if you've used Gmail via Exchange on your device
before,
you can keep doing so but you can't set up new devices to use it). So
for

all practical purposes, there's no Exchange support anymore.

So for synchronization of contacts, CardDav is really the only option.

Re: how to integrate gmail with phone/contacts on ios?

2013-05-01 Thread Christopher Chaltain
It isn't Apple that's dropping support for Exchange, it's Google. To
sync your email, calendar and contacts with your Google account, you
won't be able to use Google's Exchange server for any new accounts.
You'll have to use open protocols like IMAP, CalDav and CardDav. This
has nothing to do with being able to set up your IOS email client to
work with an Exchange server.

Subject: Re: how to integrate gmail with phone/contacts on ios?

Correct. Not only that, but Microsoft Exchange is no longer supported for new
devices (i.e. if you've used Gmail via Exchange on your device before, you
can keep doing so but you can't set up new devices to use it). So for all
practical purposes, there's no Exchange support anymore.

So for synchronization of contacts, CardDav is really the only option.

Re: how to integrate gmail with phone/contacts on ios?

2013-04-24 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi, there are several ways, but one good and quick way is to add a new
contact account. Go to Settings, then to Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Then
choose Add Account. Choose Other. Then choose CardDAV Account. This is a
contact type of account. Now fill in your Google user name and password
and for a server name give it google.com. that will read the Google
contacts from your gmail account. You can then make these contacts be
your default contacts. Now when you add a new contact from either gmail
or from your phone, they will automagically be synced. You won't need
iTunes for this at all. On the PC side there are add-ons for Thunderbird
to also read the Google Contacts, and there is a program on sourceforge
which will swync Google Contacts into the Outlook Contacts. So, there is
a way there you can have everything synced across multiple devices and
platforms.

I hope this helps, but if not, do a Google search for iPhone Google
contacts CardDAV.

The only thing I wish the iPhone would do is sort by the file as
option that
is offered in Gmail and Outlook, but alas... if there is in facta way
to do
this, I'd sure like to know.

Subject: how to integrate gmail with phone/contacts on ios?

phHello,
I would like to use my gmail address book to keep everything central (for
example if i need to use a pc that i can see all my contacts that i
have on
my idevice etc). Is it possible to set the phone/contacts/agenda ios
apps in
such a way that entries you make there will immediately be put in the
gmail
address book and also the other way around?
Thanks in advance for any info,
Greetings, Anouk,

2013-04-24 Thread Christopher Chaltain
When you add a Gmail account, you have the options for mail, calendar
and notes. You don't have a contacts option. For that, you need either
Exchange or CardDav, and CardDav is the way to go, as described in the
article Raul points to below.

Hi, yes if you add a gmail account into your iPhone for mail, you will
have the option for calendars and contacts as well. However the method I
gave in my first message is specifically for contacts. I didn't include
calendars.

Thanks for that link. I will read that tomorrow and also go hunt for
that applevis podcast. So, can you also enter data in your iphone agenda
and it will be synced with your gemail account or does it not work that
way?
Thanks

They give a quick overview on how to do it. There are also other Google
support articles on how to do this. I believe too that there was a
podcast
posted on Apple Vis covering this same topic.
