RE: iPhone latest update

Do you have audio ducking on? If you turned it off that would explain why you
are having difficulties hearing Voiceover over other audio that is playing.
If audio ducking is on the volume of other audio is lowered if you are using
the phone and Voiceover is speaking.

Hi,
First of all they have fix that issue. Second of all if that happens all I
have done is press the home button three times to turn VO off then press it
three times again to turn it on. If all else fails turn your iPhone off and
then back on. Why do you need sighted assistance to turn your iPhone off and
back on? Like I said since they have fix it in one of the last few updates I
have not had this issue.

If the hearing-aid accessibility shortcut is present, one mut choose
between which triple-click-HOME function one wants to use. To turn VO
off is easy enough, but not so to turn it back on again. Hence, I have
removed that shortcut, so now my triple-click-HOME only turns off VO and
shows no dialog about it.

What I think has happened is there are more than one apps selected for the
accessibility shortcut. In order to have VoiceOver turn on and off with the
triple tap, you must have voiceover selected only. Go to settings,
accessibility and then the the shortcut. Make sure that it says voceiOver is
selected only.

Hi Holly,
Go to Accessibility
Then do a four finger touch at the bottom of the screen to go to the last item
on the menu which is accessibility short cut. Double tap on that and go to
something about hearing aids. I don't have my aids paired right now so I don't
remember exactly what it was called. But when you go down that list you will be
able to tell because it will be selected. I have VO selected in my list which I
want for the triple click home button. So just unselect whatever is selected
regarding your hearing aids.

Re: iPhone latest update

2019-12-26 Thread Holly

Mr. Ed:

How did you turn off the hearing aid shortcut. I have it on, and would
rather not have it, as the app is not very accessible anyway.

I went into accessibility and then hearing, but couldn't see any option for
turning off the shortcut.

RE: iPhone latest update

2019-12-26 Thread Mr. Ed
Hi,
I have hearing aids and I turned off that short cut for pressing the home
button three times to turn VO on and off. I would rather have the option to
turn off VO with the home button then have the hearing aid short cut come up. I
did not have any issues turning off my iPhone when the VO problem existed. But
I don't think you have to worry about VO locking up with phone calls and
Facetime as they have fix that bug.

Because when this bug first appeared, it was not possible to turn
VoiceOver off, then on again, so sighted assistance was required to do
that. Second, if one is a hearing aid user, a triple-tap of the HOME
button brings up a dialog that doesn't, or didn't, speak, offering the
choice of turning VoiceOver off or doing some other thing with hearing
aids which I forget just now how it's worded. In either case, that
dialog didn't speak either, so someone relying on VoiceOver was rendered
helpless without it. Third, Siri didn't do it either. VoiceOver was
entirely hosed until the phone was rebooted. If that's been fixed in
13.3, I can deal with whatever else there might still be, long as I have VO.

2019-12-25 Thread Holly

Hi guys:

I finally updated a couple of days ago. I got my computer upgraded to Win
10 last week, so guess it is my time to catch up with the latest technology.

I didn't find any major issues with 13.3, although, some say there is still
a bug in the email app. I don't use my phone for much email, so can't
address that.

As far as voice over, I am sure they have fixed the bug Steve was worrying
about.

Holly! When I ask Siri to close the app, he does give instructions re how to,
forcibly close it,
but the problem that I have is that the radio is yapping all the time and it is
difficult to hear

I did, eventually, close Newstalk ZB, but I have no idea of which of my many

I think that I will stick to the Echo for radio because I can just issue the
command: "Alexa!

third choice, she does
not show it, and does as she is bid!

RE: iPhone latest update

2019-12-24 Thread Mr. Ed
If you have an iPhone 6 you will not be able to update it to IOS 13 or higher.
But if you have a 6s or higher you can update to IOS 13 or higher. If you have
an 6s,6s plus,6 SE, 7, 7 plus, 8, 8 plus or higher why would you not want to
update to IOS 13. It workds quite well now.

Re: iPhone latest update

2019-12-24 Thread Arnold Schmidt
I think that is unfortunate. But then, I guess they want to encourage those who
can to update to 13. If I could, I would.

RE: iPhone latest update

2019-12-24 Thread janet gross
HI Joshua,
I don't think you will get any iOS 12 updates unless you're on an iPhone 6 or
less. I did download iOS 12.4.4, but that was for my iPhone 6, but I didn't
see that update on my xr iPhone though. I still haven't downloaded iOS 13 as
of yet either.

RE: iPhone latest update

2019-12-24 Thread Richard Turner
That is most certainly correct.
Since Apple stopped signing iOS 12 a long time ago, if you update, you will get
13.3. on any device newer than an iPhone 6.

Having said that, there might be a way to dig up the full operating system
install file from the Internet Archive.
But, that is way beyond my pay-grade, grin.
I know someone found a lot of the Jaws Scripts from a page that was taken down.
The Internet Archive is a nonprofit group that is trying to retain everything
that appears on the web. So, they may have archived the Apple previous
versions if one really wants to go through the work to avoid 13.3.

As I wrote in another message, it is up to 12.4.4 now. It downloaded itself to
my phone earlier today, even though I have automatic updates turned off. I will
install it later today. Go into settings, general, software updates, and have
it check, it should find it.

Re: iPhone latest update

2019-12-24 Thread Arnold Schmidt
As I wrote in another message, it is up to 12.4.4 now. It downloaded itself to
my phone earlier today, even though I have automatic updates turned off. I will
install it later today. Go into settings, general, software updates, and have
it check, it should find it.

Richard:

Thanks. I didn’t mind the clicks, but they were just too loud. Adjusted them
down to an acceptable level for me.

All is good now.

You can adjust all that now in those settings.
It has its own volume, though I haven’t tried it as the clicks don’t’ bother me.

Re: iPhone latest update

2019-12-23 Thread Richard Turner
So, if you want VoiceOver silent when flicking, did you try going to
Accessibility, VoiceOver, Audio, Sound, and turning it off there?
That seems to turn off all the sounds.
Or, you can go through each sound setting in there and preview each one and
then decide if you want to turn it off.
The main ones you are maybe talking about are the ones with item in their name.
HTH,

It's been a little while since I've turned that stuff off on my phone,
but I think you'll go to settings, accessibility, voice over and then
audio if I remember correctly.

Hi all:

Finally took the plunge and updated to 13.3.  All good so far.

I know it has been discussed before but forgot how to get rid of the
clicks when swiping through a page on the screen.

I went to settings, sounds and hapticks, but could not tell which
option should be turned off.

Thanks in advance.
