Re: iTunes and latest version of Window Eyes
Well, when I read "Do it right, and the screen reader will say it right. Doesn't anyone notice??" I thought that was a bit condescending and off putting to us list members. I never noticed it wasn't capitalized correctly, so that put me in the category of people that didn't notice. I also don't think it's an important distinction, so again, makes me feel like you think less of me when you word something like that. I'm offering this as constructive criticism myself in case you want to understand how your message was perceived by at least one list member. If you want to write me off as just being too sensitive and thin skinned, I'm OK with that. Reminds me of the person who pointed out that the 's' in iPhone 5s isn't capitalized, since it would look too much like another 5. I thought that was an interesting bit of information and it was presented in an informative way which didn't put anyone down or make anyone feel bad. RE: iTunes and latest version of Window Eyes
Charles, Please remember that there are a lot of us using screen readers that are very hard of hearing like myself. We don't always hear everything that our screen reader's announce those slight differences in sounds. So please think about it next time you hear something that is not spelled correctly that it might be someone with a severe hearing impairment. Also remember there are people with dramatic brain injuries, stroke victims, and a number of other disabilities that could keep them from spelling correctly. Also there are some of us that with our being severely hard of hearing all our lives that we could never hear the correct spelling of words so our spelling is not very good due to not being able to hear words correctly. Re: iTunes and latest version of Window Eyes
Not only that, but if Charles wanted to get that technical, he should have also changed window eyes to Window-Eyes. I think the Charles is assuming that everyone uses the mix capitalization feature that many screen readers use as a default. What this means is that when it is a lowercase I followed by an uppercase letter, it will separate the word in the way it pronounces it by an extra syllable. Hence iTunes and itunes. However, all of this to say that if anyone search is the archives, they will not miss finding messages whether certain things are capitalized or hyphenated or not. So let's move onto more relevant and meaningful discussions. > On Feb 23, 2015, at 7:45 PM, Christopher Chaltain wrote: > > So you changed the subject line just to correct the capitalization of iTunes? > It took me a while to figure out that was the only change you made. So you changed the subject line just to correct the capitalization of iTunes? It took me a while to figure out that was the only change you made. Re: Itunes and latest version of window eyes
I'm using the latest Window-Eyes and after the 12.1.1 patch it is working much better. I assume you have rebooted the machine after the itunes 12.1.1 install? Re: Itunes and latest version of window eyes
What version of iTunes are you using and what version of Windows (32-bit or 64-bit)? iTunes 12.1 had a bug in their 64-bit screen reader support that was discussed quite a bit on this list. A patch was released for iTunes 12.1 and this was fixed in iTunes 12.1.1, which was just released a few days ago. Check to see if you're running iTunes 12.1, and if you have a 64-bit version of Windows running, this could be your issue. Get the patch or upgrade to iTunes 12.1.1. If I'm wrong, maybe you could describe your problem a bit more and someone else can jump in to help.
