Are you signed up with NFBNewsline?

 

That requires a 6 digit ID number and a 4 digit pin.

It is only available to people who live in States that are participating in
the NFBNewsline program.

Check with your Regional Library for the Blind.

Voice Dream Reader is an app for reading a wide variety of materials.
It has a very nice interface with Bookshare.
It offers more voice options than does the Read2Go app.
It sells for $9.99 and comes with Heather, the acapella voice.
Additional Acapella voices can be purchased for $1.99 each.
Additional Neospeech voices can be purchased for $2.99 each.
The developer is looking into maybe offering Ivona voices in the future.
If you look the app up in the app store you can read more detail about it.
The developer continues to make improvements to the app, which was very good to 
begin with.  It is now my main reading app.

Yes, my work phone has a work Apple ID and my Touch has my personal Apple ID.
But Voice Dream is using my Bookshare login not my Apple ID, so if you are both 
using the same bookshare ID, I don't see where you will have any issues.

I have Voice Dream on my work iPhone and my personal iPod Touch.
I have them both accessing my personal Bookshare account.
I keep stuff on the work phone that is either work related or for demonstrating 
what a fabulous app Voice Dream is.  I have my personal reeading on my Touch.

Braille files are to much of a minority. If you have a braille display, change 
the extension to txt and voice dream will open it. If your reading with a 
braille display, you will be fine.

You do not have to buy Read2Go.
If you have a BookShare account you could buy either Voice Dream Reader or 
Read2Go.
There have been lots of discussion on both apps so I am not going to repeat the 
pros and cons of each app here.
Those are both mainly for text based books.
If you want access to audio books, there are lots of otheo ways. Look on 
www.applevis.com
If you want access to audio books from BARD, you will need to wait until at 
least July when NLS hopes to release a free app.

If I want to copy books from my computer to my iPhone, where would I put them 
and how would I go about this? Which files of a bookshare book do the app need? 
Can it read the braille files from NLS? And, finally, can it find files that 
have been downloaded with Read2Go?

After you log into bookshare and your authorization is approved, be
sure to double tap the enable button or bookshare will not be enabled
when you return to the voice dream screen that tells you what you have
enabled to download books.

The way to add a book from BookShare, is to use the Add button, then pick 
Bookshare and you will find the search options.
Pride and Prejudice should be the last item on your main screen, it is 
installed automatically with the app.

I really feel stupid, but I can't find the add button.  When I back out of
the screenI'm back at the screen that gives all the options for ways to read
like drop box, pocket, instapaper etc.  I don't see an add button. If I
double tap on the bookshare icon again it takes me back to the log-in
screen. In order not to clutter up the list, feel free to write me off-list

You're not missing anything at all, back out of that screen and you're ready to

I've just purchased the voice dream app.  I found the bookshare prompt,
enabled it, entered my bookshare email sign on and password.  I was told
that it was authenticated.  When I double tapped the ok button it took me
back to the screen that tells what bookshare is and says for more
information go to www.bookshare.com. What am I missing?

Re: voice dream and bookshare

I just downloaded the paid version yesterday, and once you sign in with your 
BookShare credentials, from the home screen go to the bottom and hit the "add" 
button.   list of choices will display with the last one being BookShare.  
Click on the BookShare button and you will get the familiar search screen - the 
one with the  categories  that you get when using the BookShare app.  

BTW, I do like the BookShare app, and have been happily using it for a long 
time, I just wanted to try this app out because of the different voices one can 
choose from, plus some books while they read while in the BookShare app,  for 
whatever reason the sentenses are read choppily, even though they display fine 
on the screen.  I have enough vision to see the highlight as it reads, and I 
can see it pause from time to time in some books.  So, I thought maybe this app 
wouldn't do that.  

Also, note I got it yesterday and it was on sale, that is on Tuesday, Feb 19th 
it was on sale.
